The UK Sathya Sai Organization has purchased a large building in Leicester – the city in England with most India immigrants – for the purpose of a sectarian private school, doubtless to be attended mainly by Indians and especially children from Sathya Sai devotee families. Originally, the Sathya Sai Organization in UK had as Presidents non-Indian devotees of Sai Baba. Since 2000, when the last non-Indian Central Coordinator there was sacked by the International Chairman,  Indians have taken over most of the leadership positions. This occurred gradually after a long and bitter struggle between ethnic Indians and their supposed ‘brothers and sisters’ of non-Indian background. Due to the widespread scandals about Sathya Sai Baba’s alleged male sexual abuses of young men and boys, plus other matters that have come to light (not least in the BBC documentary ‘The Secret Swami’), the organization has lost a large number of ethnic British participants.

Though most Sai followers I have known (very many) have good intentions and are willing to partake in voluntary work etc., the remaining Sai Baba devotees today are kept as far as possible in the dark about the facts surrounding Sai Baba’s many nefarious activities and preposterous statements and deceptions (including fraudulent ‘materializations’ as caught on videos). Those who know more or less about the situation are in psychological denial, after worshipping this self-proclaimed God Incarnate for many years and investing all their prestige and energies in it. Under the National SSE Coordinator, Lakshmi Puvanendam, they persist with this education system which, because of its narrow sectarian basis, is doomed to eventually failure in the UK, especially after Sai Baba’s death, when the factions will fight for power and wealth in what remains of this personality cult, which they so far can only do in clandestine fashion.

The inherent ideological failings of Sai doctrinal educational notions excluding such values as justice, social equality, human rights, democracy, women’s rights and open-ended fact-based research. The main lines on education in the Sai Baba movement’s ideas and plans concerning education concentrate on the inculcation of values Sathya Sai Baba teaches, which leads to a cultural vacuum for non-Hindus by excluding most of the Western educational heritage. Grandiose plans by official Sai leaders failed mainly due to widely made allegations of sex abuses by Sai Baba (eg. the Gothenberg Sai school, the Copenhagen Sai College, an UNESCO conference, Italian Education in Human Values, and diverse other such undertakings). I investigated the Sathya Sai Education in Human Values in various European countries, including the UK (in 1987). What I discovered was a mere façade to convince the public that it was a success, which is certainly as not (see here). This is typical of the ‘double-accounting’ in Sai Organization circles.

The Sathya Sai Organization’s efforts, having ailed to attract clients to EHV except on a shoestring basis, it was decided on a new name ‘Sai Educare’. This introduced a more ambitious plan to establish Sai ‘faith’ schools and colleges in a traditional way – private education. The agenda is to sneak doctrinaire education back into societies where liberal education has become the norm… underd the pretect that a sound moral training in ‘human values’ is the backbone of the system, along with belief in Sathya Sai Baba as omniscient, omnipotent God Incarnate in this age. .

The Sai teaching’s shortage of universal educational concepts and contents: Most of the hindrances in the Sathya Sai Organization to developing a healthy teaching environment were and still are doctrinally based on the highly conservative and traditional religious culture expressed by Sai Baba.The Sai doctrine quite purposely and explicitly ignores the rich scientific and humanistic culture of the world as virtually irrelevant to the spiritual life or value education.

The Shadow of Pederasty over the Preceptor: It is openly admitted by many leading the ‘Educare programme’ to perform unasked for and unwanted molestations of the genitalia of young men, oiling and rubbing them, is a shocking fact. Such handling of genitalia without prior agreement even by a doctor – is an offence under the law. This was only admitted after many years of keeping it a secret by leaders of the Sathya Sai Organisation. (eg. European Cnetral Coordinator, Mr. Thorbjørn Meyer, explicitly supported this form of molestation of young men and minors on suspect esoteric grounds).

In September 2000, UNESCO had  arranged to partake officially in an Educational Conference in his ashram, but – after they investigated the sexual abuse allegations against him by contacting some of the survivors – they withdrew form all further contact, posting a warning on their website (here). No more! Since UNESCO investigated the sexual abuse allegations by contacting victims and withdrew from the much-vaunted Sai Baba educational conference, no United Nations organization has had anything to do with him, despite major and signally unsuccessful efforts by his representatives in the Indian government and among mega-rich and/or influential supporters in the USA (eg. Dr. Michael Goldstein, Dr. William Harvey etc.).

Sathya Sai Baba turned very nasty and unloving: In 2000, on Christmas Day, Sathya Sai Baba (who has been feted as ‘The Embodiment of Love’) denounced the many young men who accused him of sexual abuse of them in the privacy of his inner interview room. He beat the lectern in his “holy temple” while holding forth and calling them liars paid to lie (itself a black lie!). He has the effrontery to repeatedly tell everyone that he is nothing but pure love, not an unkind thought for anyone, as he did again in 2002: “There is no trace of anger or hatred in Me and hence everyone loves Me” (Sanathana Sarathi September 2002, page 257f).
