Sai Baba on judging gurus’ genuineness

Posted by robertpriddy on September 29, 2011

“The only test anyone can apply to a guru, of whatever kind, is whether his words are in harmony with his deeds. Gurus are to be judged by how words are put in practice.” (Sathya Sai Baba) Conversations… p. 18 new

Sathya Sai Baba repeatedly gave a ‘guarantee’ of liberation from the wheel of life (i.e. no more rebirths or ‘Moksha’) to all who saw a lingam emerge from his mouth at Shivarathri (most recently at Shivarathri 1999 when the scandals about his sex abuses broke and he had to turn the declining visitor numbers around  (see scans of his discourse excerpts and explanations here). His close US follower, Dr. John Hislop saw the lingam emerge on several occasions. When Hislop suggested it could be a boon to be reborn with Prema Sai, Sai Baba had contradicted him (in his usual definitive manner) to say it is definitely not so! (See (Conversations with Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Sathya Sai Baba by Dr. John Hislop. 1996 revised extended edition, p. 227)
Nonetheless, two other close servitors who also often saw the lingam emerge, Prof. N. Kasturi and his closest attendant Swami Karunyananda (both now deceased), were both told they would be with Prema Sai in their next incarnations (and can you believe that?). But a boon is most certainly not how Baba has often and forcefully described rebirth … which he holds to be the greatest tragedy that can befall anyone, to have to emerge from the womb in painful ignorance of our nature and so to cry ‘Koham? (‘Who am I?)! So much for that guru’s promises.

The above is one of countless false promises and prophesies made by Sathya Sai Baba, which have been documented from his own words and reported actions most thoroughly by dissident ex-followers. To see a fair amount of them, go to PREDICTIONS and PROMISES MADE BY SATHYA SAI BABA .

The following is another example of how Sathya Sai Baba sets the rumour mill grinding without having to stand forth openly himself:- “Wilma Bronkey was the featured presenter at the South Central Regional Conference held in Texas, 1999. One of her talks centered on the fact that Sathya Sai Baba had told a group of them in an interview the following basic story: The WHOLE world would be at peace within two years–a definite noticeable condition on the planet! I personally heard this talk and saw James Redmond tape her talk. It lasted over half an hour in length. This talk was heard by many hundreds of devotees. What a legacy of broken promises!”
Dennis J. Hanisch (this was his message 31953 on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sathyasaibaba2 – removed along with thousands of early postings by Yahoo apparently for reasons of webspace).
Yet another example: broken promise to young man to make him his airline pilot

Khushwant Singh video clips: genital oiling, lingams, followers

Posted by robertpriddy on December 31, 2009

The world for Sai Baba devotees is like an enchanted garden where anything can happen. Small incidents can seem meaningful when it is believed he creates them. … They inhabit a world in which signs and evidence of his love and grace are pervasive. Any trouble vanquished or illness cured is by his grace(L.A.Babb, 1986 a:199)

TANYA DATTA: One of the things that a lot of the abuse victims we’ve talked to have said is that Sai Baba does the genital oilings because it is part of Hinduism. Have you heard anything…

KHUSHWANT SINGH There is no Indian tradition to support –  that worship of the linga includes  doing the ‘blow job’, if that is what you are referring to.
I don’t think there is any basis for that whatsoever.

NOTE HOW THE BBC CLAIMS TO HAVE TALKED TO MANY ABUSE VICTIMS! NOTE TOO THAT THEY HAVE ADMITTED TO GENITAL OILINGS, IN TANYA DATTA’S WORDS. THE ‘BLOW JOB’ TO WHICH KHUSHWANT SINGH REFERS IS NO DOUBT THAT REPORTED BY MARK ROCHE ON THE BBC DOCUMENTARY.

KHUSWANT SINGH: Indians get impressed when they see white people becoming devotees, that applies to the Germans, Australian, Italians, Spaniards, Americans with shaved heads with their pigtails, wearing the mumbo-jumbo of the prayers that they carry out, dancing in the streets

In his regular column in The Hindustan Times on March 20, 1999 (during a rare visit by Sai Baba to New Delhi) Khushwant Singh made the following enlightening remarks:

“The Indian soil is very productive of prophets and messiahs. We have always had men and women claiming to be incarnations of God, or even God Himself in human form. What would be regarded a sheer blasphemy and treated with ridicule by Christians or a sentence of death in Islam is acclaimed by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs as an avatar. So we have many Bhagwans (Gods), Swamis (Lords), Rishis (Sages), Maharishis (great sages), Acharyas (teachers), Saints (saints) and Gurus with large followings.”

“… If anyone is to be put on a shrink’s couch, it is not the godman but his followers who look upon him as God to find out what is missing in their lives which they hope to fulfil by associating with their chosen godman. It is not producing vibhuti (sacred ash), materializing watches and medallions from the air or regurgitating sivalingas – all such tricks can be performed by magicians and cannot stand the test of scientific scrutiny. The devotees’ faith has more solid foundations. They have unquestionable belief that their guru can do no wrong.”

Sathya Sai Baba’s ‘divine magnetism’

Posted by robertpriddy on July 25, 2009

Sathya Sai Baba’s delusions of grandeur on the public record reveals him still to  have much of his semi-literate villager’s ideas, holding discourses which reveal that the Divine Omniscience he claims does not stretch to magnetism, atomic physics, geophysics or a list of other subjects. His world-view is illustrated well enough in his discourse on Sivarathri, March 13, 2002, which was about magnetism with a capital M.

Sathya Sai Baba shows the "3-ton golden linga" in 2002

Sathya Sai Baba shows the “3-ton golden linga” in 2002

He spoke of magnetism as material magnetism, saying it is really divine magnetism which pervades absolutely everything. He interprets magnetism as that which only attracts. (He magnanimously overlooks the facts that physical magnetism also repulses!) He imputes this quality to physical magnetism, adding that it is also found in gold (i.e. in the golden lingam which he pretended to have materialised from within his stomach). However, gold if famously non-magnetic. (though it attracts people).  He compounds this by claiming that  this is also a kind of ‘animal magnetism’. He speaks of magnetic flowers and says the body is a magnetic temple, while physical temples store up the magnetism of devotion and thus attract people! He holds that this same magnetism is ‘embodied’ in the legless, faceless linga and so on…  (see here)

All this shows that Sathya Sai Baba suffers from an uninformed confusion of absurd proportions.

Sathya Sai Baba - from Sanathana Sarathi, April 2002, p. 123

Sathya Sai Baba – from Sanathana Sarathi, April 2002, p. 123

This idea arose, it appears, when Sathya Sai Baba began to stagger during his walkabout ‘darshans‘. The cause was not known to anyone, but later it became clear that it was due to a degenerating hip joint, which finally gave way and caused him to become an invalid. However, to explain that staggering gait, Sai Baba resorted to the ruse that it was the magnetism of the earth, which was so attracted to himself, the Divine Lord embodied, that he had difficulty walking! Amazingly, devotees today still believe such deceitful rubbish! Sai Baba pulled out all the stops, as the quote shows:

MAHASHIVARATHRI 2004 – SATHYA SAI BABA FAKES LINGAM PRODUCTION & COLLAPSES
Sai Baba later claimed the cause was that the small golden lingam weighed three tons, as heard on the BBC film!

The BBC filmed the lingam production in 2004 – but it failed completely. Sai Baba had also permitted an unprecedented live broadcast in the Indian subcontinent on holy Shivaratri day of his so-called ‘lingodbhava’ (bringing the egg-like ellipsoidal object out of his mouth after what looks like a painful process of ‘regurgitation’). From the very clear BBC filming of the event, however, one can see that NO lingam actually emerged. Instead there was a small spurt of apparently yellowish vomit, which some believers actually claimed was the lingam in liquid golden form! The yellow colour, however, arose entirely from poor video quality (or manipulation of colour) by the devotees who caught this on videocam. By contrast, the BBC film of the very same incident (in the documentary, ‘The Secret Swami’). The BBC team filmed close up and one can see clearly that there was no golden liquid or any lingam coming from his mouth, but only transparent water is seen. Before collapsing, Sai Baba held a towel to his mouth and a golden lingam appeared “somehow” in the towel. The director Eamon Hardy was observing and confirmed that no lingam came from his mouth. It is clear that most devotees will believe just anything they are told by him or his cadre. Sathya Sai Baba’s claim afterwards – stated by his translator Professor Anil Kumar and captured on film – that the lingam weighed three tons should convince any sane person that this was all nothing but transparent fraudulence.

Lingodbhava of Sai baba - sickie 1 Lingasm manifestation by Sathya Sai baba - sick-up 2
But the BBC filmed it much more clearly and tellingly:-

Process of supposed 'regurgitation' of the lingam by Sathya Sai Baba

A film clip of the ‘actual emergence’ has been posted on the internet by devotees. One can pause the video and examine each frame separately to analyze the movements. (http://www.kingdomofsai.org/2004/NEWS/NEWS20040218v.html”>View the Indian poor quality film-clip-NOTE Site since removed by owners but archived). Some claimed that, because the lingam did not appear from his mouth, it was formed in the towel from vomited ‘liquid gold’ (though the liquid only appeared to have a yellow colour on the badly made cheap video, while it was clear as water on the BBC professional film). From before the alleged ‘emergence’, Sathya Sai Baba is clearly seen to be holding something just about the size of the lingam inside the towel between the thumb and forefinger of his right hand! Now what on earth could that be, one wonders? After the vomit, he lets go of what he was holding in secret and fumbles to extract it with his right hand, taking the lingam from under the towel just where it was being held earlier, and we see a rather confused look of resignation cross his features.

It seems that Sathya Sai Baba must have lost his nerve on this occasion, for he did not even try producing the lingam from his mouth this time. We know from a private source who observed the event that Sathya Sai Baba collapsed directly after that and was in a terrible state when he was carried off. Very likely partly a reaction to the stress of being on live TV and of realizing he had not managed to pull it off convincingly to conceal his fraud from the cameras. But his favourite, Anil Kumar, reported that Sathya Sai Baba had to go away to ‘produce’ two more ‘atma lingams’ in private out of sight of anyone! (believe it if you can!). Was Sathya Sai Baba feeling too ill, or too camera shy? Those with perspicacious and open minds can decide the nature of this ‘divine mystery’? He answered this when, having been off-stage for some time, he returned and told the audience (in front of the BBC camera!)”

TRANSCRIPT (view actual brief video clip – filesize 1Mb) :-
Tanya Datta:- There’s always an explanation for everything.
(Anil Kumar’s translation of Sai Baba’s words in Telugu): “Out of the stomach emanated Shiva Lingas of the weight
of three tonnes. That’s the reason why some strain on the face and the body
.”

It was Sathya Sai Baba’s translator ‘Professor’ Anil Kumar, who translated Sai Baba’s words saying that his debilitating collapse at the Shivarthri festival in 2004 was due to the three tonnes of weight of the golden lingam. He claimed it emerged from his body (see here – also view how the BBC camera showed that no lingam actually emerged). Probably the fatuous blind believer Anil Kumar mistranslated Sai Baba’s words… for the Sanathana Sarathi printed version of Sai Baba discourses in which he claims that the weight of the gold in the human body – and in the gold lingams he produces – was ‘three tolas’. This is equivalent to the weight of three original silver Indian rupees of 11.4 grams each. So Sai Baba’s lingam of three tolas would weigh just over 34 grams. In an earlier discourse he made the quite different claim that every human body contains ‘five tolas’ (ca. 60 grams)

In his discourse after the Shivarathri lingodbhava two years previously (13/3/2002), Sai Baba stated: “(Showing the golden Linga to the devotees, Swami said). “As you can all see, this Linga is rather bigger in size. There is a meaning behind this. This is five Tolas in weight. [one Tola is 11.66 grams. 5 Tolas = about 60.0 grams] Every human being possesses five Tolas of gold essence known as Hiranyagarbha… Gold represents energy in man and is the cause of his radiance. The gold content within each body is this size only. It is gold essence in the body that makes the eyes see, ears hear etc.” (Sanathana Sarathi – April 2002, p. 127)
However, the human body cannot possibly contain so much gold! In Wikipedia we find that the amount of gold in the human body is vanishingly tiny:-

ElementPercent of Atoms Atoms
Gold0.00000030 2 x 1019

Further: “only salts and radioisotopes of gold are of pharmacological value, as elemental (metallic) gold is inert to all chemicals it encounters inside the body” (see here)

Faked emergence of egg-sized golden ‘lingam’ – filmed proof

Posted by robertpriddy on July 20, 2009

Mahashivarathri 2004 – Sai Baba vomits into a towel and collapses

Sai Baba said in public the small gold lingam weighed three tons!http://www.exbaba.com/comments_on/_the_secret_swami/sai%20baba%20glory.jpg”> see video clip from BBC where he collapses

Sai Baba allowed an unprecedented live broadcast in the Indian subcontinent of his so-called ‘lingodbhava‘ (bringing the egg-sized ellipsoidal object out of his mouth after what looks like a painful process of ‘regurgitation’). However, one can most clearly see that NO lingam actually emerged at all this year. It seems to have done so in the past, but Houdini was the first to perform this trick (see below)!  In 2004, instead, there was only a small spurt of vomited water,

According to some devotees, the lingam which did not emerge as such was actually formed in the towel from vomited ‘liquid gold’. However, this any colour was due to the poor video quality or manipulation, because on the BBC film of the same incident, only transparent water came from his mouth! It is clear that most devotees will believe just anything they are told by him or his cronies. However, the BBC documentary film makers filmed it all close up and one can see clearly that there was no golden liquid or any golden lingam coming from his mouth, as attended by the BBC film-maker – Eamon Hardy – and his team, but one appears “somehow” in the towel he was holding!

Faked 'materialization' of lingam from stomach by Sai Baba, 2004

A film clip of the ‘actual emergence’ has been posted on the Internet by devotees. One can pause the video and examine each frame separately to analyse the movements. (Click here for the Indian low quality film-clip of the same event as filmed professionally by the BBC in ‘The Secret Swami’).

From before the alleged ‘emergence’, Sathya Sai Baba is clearly seen to be holding something just about the size of the lingam inside the towel between the thumb and forefinger of his right hand! Now what on earth could that be, one wonders? After the vomit, he lets go of what he was holding in secret and fumbles to extract it with his right hand, taking the lingam from under the towel just where it was being held earlier, and we see a rather confused and sheepish look cross his features – like resignation at being caught in the act. It seems that Sathya Sai Baba must have lost his nerve on this occasion, for he did not even try producing the lingam from his mouth this time.

Faked 'emergence' of the golden lingam - stills from BBC film

Faked ‘emergence’ of the golden lingam – stills from BBC film

I later learned from a key member of the BBC team who contacted me that Sathya Sai Baba collapsed directly after the faked ‘manifestation’ and was in a dreadful state when he was carried off. Very likely partly a reaction to the stress of being on live TV and of realising he had not managed to pull it off convincingly to conceal his fraud from the cameras. But his favourite, Anil Kumar, reported that Sathya Sai Baba had to go away to ‘produce’ two more ‘atma lingams‘ in private out of sight of anyone! (believe it if you can!). Was Sathya Sai Baba feeling too ill, or too camera shy? Those with perspicacious and open minds can decide the nature of this ‘divine mystery’. However, it is also noteworthy that there was suddenly a significant increase in defections from his movement just afterwards. But despite that they claim (very excessively, no doubt) that from 60 to 100 million are still followers!

Surely only a person whose entire mind is already permeated with unfounded religious beliefs and superstitions can credit this. Interestingly, we can also compare this with the words of Sathya Sai Baba as attributed to him directly by his one-time very close servitor Swami Karunyananda, who lived to over 100 years and spent about 4 decades living within Sathya Sai Baba’s apartment. On p. 367 of the first edition of ‘The Glory of Puttaparthi’ (Bangalore, 1980) by V. Balu, we read:-

Sri Karunyananda also enlightened me about the lingam which Sri Baba used to materialise from his body on Shivarathri day. Sri Karunyananda was near at hand once when a solid gold lingam was brought out by Sri Baba. The lingam was quite big and heavy and the corners of Sri Baba’s mouth had been hurt a little as it emerged! What pain the passage of such a big and heavy substance must have caused Sri Baba as it came out through his throat, thought Sri Karunyananda.
Sri Baba quieted his doubts; “When I will its birth, it is born only as a very soft, pliable substance. It is soft as it emerges from the stomach and comes up the throat. It hardens only at the time it is ejected from the mouth.”

This account has been spread around, such as in the book ‘Sri Sathya Sai Baba – a story of God as man‘ (1985) by former long-term ashram resident M.N. Rao, and so we can all see how Sai Baba has changed his mind about how the lingam is formed, and probably has forgotten how he once explained it.

Further, when Sathya Sai Baba resumed the lingam business again two decades after he stopped the yearly show – when his crisis with the major sexual abuse allegations began and something was badly needed to help slow the thinning out of his followers – he pronounced of the lingam he ‘brought forth’ then: “This lingam will not break even if it is dropped from a height with force. This is Amruthtatwam (symbol of immortality). It is changeless. You cannot see such a manifestation anywhere in the world. It is possible only with Divinity.” (Sanathana Sarathi – March 1999, p. 73). If that were really so, how come that Swami Premananda did exactly the same year upon year up until he won himself a double life sentence for rape and murder in the early ’90s?

Houdini invented the regurgitation trick: The regurgitation of such an object was first performed by Houdini after his careful experiments with a comparable ivory ball (attached to a string at first) before performing it and it since then became known in India as a fakir trick. The trick can also be seen on various films, including a film screened on TV in 1988 ( ‘Das Mysterium Der Shiva – Heilige Männer’ (Ein film von Eberhart Thiem, Helga Lippert, Arno Peik) from a German series called ‘Terra X – Rätsel alter Weltkulturen’).

Finally, if the lingam really is made of gold – which there is little reason to doubt – then it can surely be changed by heating it sufficiently, or putting it under a steam hammer. If not, then Sathya Sai Baba is telling untruths as to what it is supposed to be. If it is so eternal and changeless, then why not clear up all questions by getting an advanced physics laboratory to see if they are able in any way to change one (Sathya Sai Baba has dozens of them)? Yes, why not? Or are they too holy to stand up to any test of truth?

Miracle: Sai Baba spews out 3 tons of gold: he says

Posted by robertpriddy on August 25, 2007

Vomit causes breakdown

Sathya Sai Baba made a preposterous statement: (Anil Kumar’s translation directly after Sai Baba’s words in Telugu): “Out of the stomach emanated Shiva Lingas of the weight of three tonnes. That’s the reason why some strain on the face and the body.” see the BBC on the failed lingodbhava of Feburary 2004 (photos here) video clip also Sai Baba’s collapse and exit transcript and video clip of his famous explanation here)

Sai sicks up - no lingam

But no strain on his hand when he took it from the towel? He must have been VERY strong… but then God IS very strong, isn’t it?
No strain on the wooden table either…  Is there something a wee bit fishy and porky about Sai Baba’s explanation?

It was claimed that there were three lingams in all, one which we saw which came from his hanky, two more he was said to have ‘regurgitated’ in a private room after stumbling off stage! (Really!) Was that ONLY three tons? It’s all so hard to get to the bottom of this somehow… but then it was hard for the world-famous magician Houdini’s public to understand how he had invented the egg-regurgitating trick too!

So how could the Divine Will at the 2004 Shivarathri lingodbhava falter? Why did it all go pear-shaped in public? Was it a Divine Glitch? Or a “Divine test of credulity”?  A sudden reversal of polarity in the Divine Magnetic Power? Or was it that the lingam stuck in Sai Baba’s “magnetic” body somewhere along the line?

Last but not least, you could enter the world-wide competition to provide the solution – please post your answers in a plain brown envelope! Be the goose that lays that golden egg…

In Wikipedia we find that the amount of gold in the human body is vanishingly tiny

SAI BABA LIBERATION?

Posted by robertpriddy on June 7, 2007

Ready for the next world (but only ‘on hold’ up until you peg out)?

Well, you could try joining the Sathya Sai Baba movement and live within its spiritual confines in the (hope of) a promised rosy future disembodied existence in one of Sai Baba’s personally-created heavens (or purgatories)? You can safely neglect the past and put all present worries and concerns aside because Sai Baba says this world is unreal anyhow and you must think only of him all the time! IF you want to get what only He, God Incarnate, can give – that is, liberation for the whole shebang!  Are you up to that? I think in fact no one is!  Ghastly thought – now that he is a proven liar and is accused of far worse crimes, like major sexual abuse.

Sathya Sai Baba promised liberation to all who saw the lingodbhava – including his closest US devotee, Dr. John Hislop, who saw it many times. But then he withdrew that for Hislop, who he said would have to be reborn. This is stated in Hislop’s last book see here So Sai Baba breaks his word as it suits him, and how can anyone trust such megalomanic promises of pie in the sky in any case?

Tired of life?
Problem with liberation (moksha – which is not a kind of coffee but is supposed to be freedom from getting reborn in a new body) is that no one has the slightest clue what it actually  involves – Sai Baba certainly never explains it, nor even tries to! It is said to be ultimate knowledge of the Self (which is everything and nothing at once, and is God and not-God either). As Sathya Sai says: “None of you know who you really are.”  And I am inclined to add: ‘and if and when you may find out (i.e. having got this ‘liberation’) then it’s too late anyway.’ But some people evidently have to have something to believe in and live for (at least it’s the end of all living!).

Bringing up the ‘lingam’
Sathya Sai Baba claimed to produce the ultimate symbol of liberation – the Shivalingam – in his own stomach, and on the ‘night of Shiva’ each year he would sick up one or more of them. It is said he once regurgitated 9 of them at once. This strange phenomenon had only been heard of before Sathya Sai Baba when Houdini did the trick of swallowing a large marble ball for a number of hours before bringing it up in a public show. (Houdini began by swallowing objects with a thread attached so he could draw them up, later he could dispense with the thread and – by swallowing water (and/or an emetic) – could then cause spasms to vomit it out. Sathya Sai claims HIS lingams, however, represent the cosmos and must be worshipped – and very confusingly he implies even that they somehow contain the universe!!

The numbers game and need for cash flow
Sai Baba did this ‘lingam creation’ for a dozen years or so until 1968 when the crowds Became too large and pressing at that event. He did not resume this practice the very late 90s. It is fairly evident that he no longer swallows anything for regurgitation, but fakes this through using towels before his mouth a lot, then letting the lingam emerge. (See details about this here http://home.no.net/anir/Sai/enigma/lingam.htm#gag ) Seeing it emerge is supposed to guarantee automatically that one achieves liberation
(moksha) http://home.no.net/anir/Sai/enigma/lingam.htm#lib
It also guarantees that Sai Baba attracts many believers who hope this may be true… and who help replenish the inflow of donations to his massive funds which evidently diminished after 1999 (when the sex abuse and other scandals of 1999 surfaced via David Bailey
http://saibaba-invigilator.blogspot.com/2006/12/further-testimony-of-david-bailey.html
who, after over 100 interviews and learning too much of the truth, blew the whistle on a big scale.

It is constantly repeated in propaganda (and uncritically reproduced in many other media) that Sathya Sai has 60 million, or 100 million – even 600 million – followers. (Ah! What they do tell you!) Of course, no one has actually counted them, for there is no way it can be done [except of course by Sai Baba – claiming to be The Eye in the Sky on High]. Actually Sai Baba is blind in one eye and has been for years – a hair on his pet elephant’s trunk punctured the eyeball back in the 1980s. He has confirmed that he only sees with one eye. He needs no more, for in Prashanthi Nilayam (the ‘country of the blind’ believers) the one-eyed man is King!
