Sathya Sai Baba Deceptions Exposed

Exposing major deceits by guru Sathya Sai Baba in India, incl. murders cover-up & widely alleged sexual abuse

The advent of the Internet has made it possible to communicate to the public how widespread the sexual abuse allegations against Sathya Sai Baba have been over a long period of time in different cultures like Malaysia, Greece, the USA, U.K.. Australia, and India. Various defenders of Sai Baba against the range of accusations made against him make the point that such defamations have been made against him before and they predict that they will be made again (on safe ground this time). Recently another sexually abused young man has, after decades, stood forth on on-line videos and told how he was seduced into oral sex on Sai Baba. There are many more who have contacted exposé activists but cannot for many reasons stand forth so far.

Extremely revealing facts emerging about child sexual abuse in India: The overall credibility of such claims about Sathya Sai Baba is increased notably on the background of the recent release of official research results concerning child sex abuse in India, which indicate that 53% of India’s 40 million children have been subjected to one form or another of sexual abuse (click here) – and it is worst for boys! Compared with 39% of girls who faced sexual abuse, there was 48% of boys! This indicates that homosexual practices including fellatio and sodomy with minors are very widespread in India

Taboos and cover-ups: The Indian governmental research report makes clear (click here) “The subject of child abuse is still a taboo in India. There is a conspiracy of silence around the subject and a very large percentage of people feel that this is a largely western problem and that child abuse does not happen in India. Part of the reason of course lies in a traditional conservative family and community structure that does not talk about sex and sexuality at all… this silence encourages the abuser and to press his advantage to subject the child to more severe forms of sexual abuse.” This fact alone helps one understand why Sathya Sai Baba and those involved around him have been able to continue this behaviour and extend it vastly, according to reports from defectors and particularly non-Indian victims. Even the devotee parents of most Indian students who allege abuse (mostly in strict confidence to respected investigators) will not listen to the facts from their sons! These adults hang onto their belief that Sathya Sai Baba is God Incarnate and can do no wrong – even to the point of considering anything sexual he may choose to do to be for the benefit of the molested! This disgrace will not be tolerated by the world at large, and these allegations will never be silenced but will only increase with the years and greater openness in India over such matters.

Many former office-bearers and devotees accuse Sathya Sai: The accusations against Sathya Sai Baba are not just by third parties or people who have been without access to him: they consist in many personal statements and credibly-informed accounts by some of those sexually abused and by parents of abused and molested children, who include some who were very prominent in the Sathya Sai Organisation, none of whom have been allowed recourse to any hearing by that Organisation’s officials. Nor has the Indian judicial system with Sai-devotee judges and government protection allowed court hearings against Sathya Sai Baba.

A list of very prominent leaders, ex-members and devotees (click here to see list) proves that many persons have investigated enough to be convinced that the evidence is sound and truthful. Many affidavits are in safe legal keeping for use in any court case, not least for any case admitted against Sathya Sai Baba in India if he should lose the protection of enough of the Indian government and judiciary.

International warnings about Sathya Sai Baba: The U.S. State Department Advisory still stands and, as was stated to the BBC in May 2004, Sathya Sai Baba is the individual named in its travel advisory in Consular Information Sheet, November 23, 2001, where he was not actually named. However, that it refers to Sathya Sai Baba was confirmed and stated on the very revealing one-hour BBC World documentary ‘The Secret Swami’ (click here) That Sathya Sai was intended was clear from the start, but publishing his name could have had consequences for US-Indian relations in the absence of a conviction of Sathya Sai Baba so far. This kind of State Department warning is never made without very adequate evidence.

That Sathya Sai Baba is the object of the warning can be confirmed from William F. Hurst, CA/OCS/ACS/NESCA – Overseas Citizens Services & Crisis Management Specialist. American Citizen’s Services Unit. U.S.>State Department, D.C. Phone: 202 647 5395. FAX 202 647 3732. Media Enquiries should be made to: Steve Royster, Phone: 202-647-2114. State Department, Washington. Likewise, in withdrawing from association with Sathya Sai Baba, UNESCO (click here) – being a professional organisation with legal responsibility – did not act in publishing their withdrawal from Sathya Sai educational connections without convincing testimony and proper investigation. In their official pronouncements to the BBC under the making of the documentary ‘The Secret Swami’ the relevant UNESCO official has reaffirmed the correctness of the original decision.

Sex abuse allegations against Sathya Sai Baba have been distributed fairly evenly throughout his past (click here, at least since he attracted an international following from the 1970s from persons of many nationalities and countries around the world. These allegations do not go away, not one has been withdrawn. As all experience of sexual activities in religious settings and institutions shows – the first few of these to surface invariably turn out to be the tip of an iceberg. So far only about 30 persons have testified of sexual molestation by Sai Baba. For obvious reasons, a majority of those assaulted prefer to avoid the painful publicity that this involves (not least recriminations from misguided people still inside the belief system, some of whom always attack with gossip and slander anyone who stands forth, also through writings and even outright threats to their personal security, as has been perpetrated on some of those who have accused Sai Baba.). This can of worms, already opened wide, ought to be cleaned out by frank and impartial investigations and normal legal processes, including compensation to offended parties, as is done in many other countries. Because it is not – for reasons it is easy to understand – these credible allegations will continue and doubtless grow in number as the years go by.

Dr. John Hislop’s internal letters to US organisation leaders proving their long-term denial and cover-up were published on the Internet in 2000. They are classic examples of many other pro-Baba sources that attempt to spread disinformation and deny just investigation and human rights to those affected by Sathya Sai Baba and his organisations’ illegal activities. In desperate attempts to muddy the issue, some digitally cleaned-up copies of scans of the letters posted earlier have been claimed by fanatical pro-Sai defenders to be counterfeited. This claim has been soundly refuted by posting of the annotated versions and further, by former leader of the San Francisco Sathya Sai Centre, Timothy Conway Ph. D., who has provided a formal sworn affidavit and confirms that the letters were received from Hislop from Dr. Hislop, either in late 1981 or early 1982 (see letters).

One of several shocks and defining moments for me was when I heard how many allegations have been made by Indians even from the 1970s from a most reliable source to a parapsychology professor, Erlendur Haraldsson, from Iceland who I know from India and who has visited my home several times. He has written a book and various articles about Sathya Sai Baba but he wished for professional reasons that his name should not be used on this context. However, it is time that he admitted what he knew, therefore I have named him and told the whole story of his largely failed investigations. He told me how Krishna, the youth who shared Baba’s sleeping quarters for years told him repeatedly in two separate recorded interviews told how Sathya Sai had masturbated often during the years they shared a bedroom. This information was also sent me in an e-mail from him which I have preserved. He was openly told this without any cue whatever by the man known to all in Puttaparthi in former days as Krishna, who later left Sathya Sai and lost faith in him. Sathya Sai himself pronounced to all that Krishna was his ‘soul brother’, a brother from a former lifetime (a very peculiar assertion, since Shirdi Baba had no known brother… but Baba sometimes refers to his own ‘previous lives’ also as Kabir and others). This Krishna even sat beside Baba in his chariot on Guru Poornima processions in Puttaparthi, but eventually left Baba after about 7 years claiming that he was too imperious and deceitful.

Krishna’s account was known to various other devotees and former devotees and the constant twosome he made with Sai Baba has been described by Smt. Vijayamma in her book where she recounts many incidents from Sathya Sai’s early years, including the fact that these two were known in Puttaparthi as ‘Radha-Krishna’, which virtually gives the picture! Krishna became a Christian and lived in Madras, having died in his 70s some years ago. Of course, there is nothing shameful about a young man masturbating (not to enlightened persons) nor being homosexuals, but the shame in Sai Baba’s case only enters only when this natural propensity is contrasted with his evidently deceitful claims to absolute purity and total freedom from lust or – for that matter – any other worldly desires!

The 1993 “cold-blooded” murders and more deceits Another extremely disturbing incident was the murders in Sathya Sai’s bedroom, the CBI investigation of which was never concluded – and the murders under most suspicious circumstances for which no one was ever charged – see quashed of these investigations and a Supreme Court petition thrown out by Sai devotee judges (click here) This manipulation of charges against Sathya Sai Baba comes on top of another case against him which were dealt with by Sai devotee judges who held that Sai Baba ‘materialised’ gold and so was not subject to the Gold Control Act – a scandalous arbitrary result based on deluded beliefs, utterly incomprehensible to lawyers of Western countries! See here To add insult to injury, Sathya Sai was filmed collapsing on-stage and later saying the cause was that he had been regurgitating a lingam (from his stomach) which weighed three tons – as the BBC documentary shows – click here Anyone who believes that preposterous claim must have a cognitive disorder and be under delusions caused by a ‘true believer syndrome’.
