On a visit with Prof. Kasturi and others to the famous spiritual guru, Swami Shivananda in Rishikesh in July 1957 a photograph was taken (above), which at least proves the visit took place. Sathya Sai Baba allegedly cured the elderly swami of an illness and materialised a special mala (necklace) for him, the necklace being seen in the photo. Interestingly, Swami Sivananda has never corroborated this claim, and it is most unusual he did not regard this as worthy even of a mention. Furhter, his extensive Divine Light Society has never made mention of these claims by Sai Baba in any of their literature, presumably either because the viewed Sathya Sai Baba as uninteresting or fradulent.

Sai Baba adopts attitudes of masterly superiority towards everyone at some stage in their relationship – and belittles all around him, including most visitors to interviews, with jibes and put-downs. He puts down other swamis and alleging masters – if not in public, in interviews (which have been reported by many devotees, mostly ‘on the grapevine’). Sai Baba is definitely not free of the competition for prestige and his followers are proud to announce his alleged ascendency over all other gurus, ‘holy men’ and ‘saints’, as they do in numerous books about him and in talks and public presentations.

Of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Sathya Sai Baba said in an interview to a Dutch group at Brindavan in 1994 who asked him about the guru: “Transcen-dental” (and showed his teeth in a Maharishi smile!), then told them that the mantra he gave them was wrong and that the Maharishi was a ‘dirty man!

According to an American lady devotee who has been in India for ages – known as ‘Om’ to most Sai followers – Sai Baba said to her of Osho Rajneesh (who had tried to force sex with her) that he was ‘a demon’.

This at least shows that Sathya Sai Baba speaks ill of others when it suits him in interviews(which are supposed to be kept confidential, but which Sai Baba uses to seed rumours). Due to this Sai Baba cannot be held to account for it – unless by those who dare to speak out against him!
