Global Warming and Prophesies

Sathya Sai Baba has claimed he is here to save the world from global catastrophe. Many others have likewise claimed to be the Saviours of mankind, Christ come again, the Messiah, the Mahdi Moud and whatever. It is an easy claim to make, but so far none of them have shown the proof of the pudding! Sai Baba’s many claims and prophesies have been shown to be bogus, either by documentation from his own self-contradictions and ignorance or the course of events.

Sai Baba has evidently picked up some stray thoughts from visitors and his educated servitors about the ozone layer and CO2 pollution and has mentioned the problem in a few sentences.

We see that Sai Baba was unaware that CFC gases were the primary cause of ozone depletion, for he believes that tree-planting (afforestation) could correct ozone depletion. He is ignorant of the science and obviously confuses ozone depletion with CO2 increase.

The ozone layer is not repaired yet and – after world authorities [i.e. not Sai Baba] put some measures in place to stop it’s disappearance – scientists say it will take many years before it recovers so that it’s continued existence is secured. A major possible threat to civilisation and humanity today – global warming and all the horrific consequences that can follow – is not on Sai Baba’s “world-saving agenda” as far as anyone can tell. However, he did emphasise how the ancient Indian custom of using green leaves on festive occasions proves how scientific they were, because greenery absorbs CO2! (p.265, Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 24). He has rightly said in a brief paragraph that polluting industry can and must be checked (p.324, Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 25).

He has further stated that tree-planting is “essential” to stop the build-up of CO2 in the atmosphere (p.28, Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 26), even though experts consider this hopeless as a solution to the vast quantities of CO2 already in the atmosphere and the massive emissions that continue today. All scientists agree that the only hope lies in a vast reduction in the long term of CO2 emissions, to which tree-planting can contribute only a tiny amount.  

One the practical side, Sathya Sai Baba continues to ride in his expensive gas-guzzling cars and hired passenger jets (for his holidays) all of which which spew out CO2. He continues to invite followers to visit him for his Birthdays from all over India and the world, so contributing to CO2 emission by air and car travel. One would expect better guidance and a far better example from the supposed Kalki Avatar who wants to save humanity (or as he sometimes confides, at least save his worthy devotees) and introduce a new Golden Age of Truth and Goodness.
