Sathya Sai Airport “white elephant” for sale!

Posted by robertpriddy on October 31, 2007

The Sathya Sai Airport is now on the market. This is one of Sai Baba’s several white elephants, one which stood unused (except for the odd VIP visit by private jet) for years and has handled nothing but occasional charter flights (only two-three per week at best) since then. This is how the self-proclaimed defender of India’s poor and suffering’s lets money be used for most wasteful self-publicity projects.

The Sathya Sai International Airport, Puttaparthi: In such a desperately poor State as Andhra Pradesh, the airport seemed very wasteful, having stood unused for years before the first commercial flight arrived and was still used less than ca. 5% of each week. Sathya Sai Baba’s trusted editor, V.K. Narasimhan, was present at the interview in 1990 where airport authorities attended. He told me how SSB convinced Indian Airport authorities to finance and build the large (allegedly Jumbo jet capacity) airport near Prashanthi Nilayam, telling them that they would earn 10 lakhs of rupees in the first year. No paying passengers even flew in or out during the first year, The frequency of traffic, at best about 2-3 flights of medium jets per week for several years at periods – and when SSB was in residence – ensured that earnings were minimal and well below costs. It was virtually closed often in the 1990s. It is trutly hard to rationalise such a huge waste of taxpayer funds in such an impoverished land! The reason can only be Sai Baba’s patently obvious desire for ‘name and fame’.

Later I learned from my (former) IAS friend, V. Ramnath, that Mr. M.K. Kaw (see image above) was the Secretary of Civil Aviation who had been a devotee since the 1960s when Sai Baba’s car stopped beside him while he was standing in a road in Aranachala Pradesh. Amusingly, Sai Baba had has Mr. Kaw – who is a relative heavyweight – actually sit on his lap during one inverview with his family. This is the man Sai Baba influenced to get his airport built.

Mr. Kaw tried to trick his superiors but was caught out

The Indian Express journalist from New Delhi, Swati Chaturvedi, exposed and documented (7 Feb. 1998) the corruption of Mr. M.K. Kaw – a favourite devotee of Sathya Sai Baba acting on his behalf. As Civil Aviation Secretary, originally arranged for Indian Government permission for the Sathya Sai Airport to be built. No one knows who funded it, as the Sathya Sai Central Trust financial accounts are not open to public scrutiny, but the same Trust apparently ended up owning it.  He wrote “It took barely 48 hours for M.K. Kaw to clear an international cargo hub at the Sai Baba Trust-run airport at Puttaparthi in Karnataka. Kaw also directed that all help from the Government, including setting up a customs office, be provided to the private trust. ” However,  the Minister of State Jayanthi Natarajan confirmed that Kaw’s order had been overruled and the matter referred to [Minister C.M.] Ibrahim. Kaw refused to comment In the process of clearance, Kaw has bypassed both the Ministers. September 17: The Sathya Sai Baba Central Trust applied to the Civil Aviation Ministry to set up an international cargo hub in Puttaparthi.  Indian Express Minister aborts an unofficial “miracle”  (deleted at source, click on image above to see full text)

Sai Baba Cult In Decline As Exposé Advances

Posted by robertpriddy on October 30, 2007

Recent events in Puttaparthi and the massive interest shown by visitors to this and other exposé web pages are yet another indicator of the failing impetus of Sathya Sai Baba. Over 10,000 hits on two blogs within just over one week underlines the impact that the reported ‘failed moon miracle performance’ has had. It is one of the biggest single PR blunders Sai Baba has committed so far (excluding the 1993 murders episode and his comments about it which fail to satisfy reason or public accountability).

The fall-off in interest in Sai Baba is seen not only among educated Westerners. They have left his following in very large numbers since the major exposure of him that began on the Internet in 2000. As well, the dive is seen also in India, which is confirmed, for example, by reports from former devotees that many foreign residents have virtually been driven out of his ashrams and lost their investment in an apartment there by discrimination and unfair treatment. Fewer non-Indian faces are visible in recent videos and photos from the ashrams, though [apparently to compensate] efforts are made to give maximum publicity to any foreigners who speak there nowadays.
All this occurs on the background of a constant and increasingly massive world-wide publicity campaign to promote Sathya Sai Baba – the self-proclaimed Saviour of Humanity from world disaster. See, Barry Pittard’s article The Decline of the Showman Empire. This decline or “Divine Downfall” (to use the title of author and journalist Mick Brown’s Telegraph article) continues despite hundreds of Sai-propaganda websites, constant world-wide radio broadcasts via Sai Global Harmony and WorldSpace International Satellite Radio Service. Intense damage control efforts can be seen not least in a major undercover campaign tacitly supported by Sai Baba’s officials and various semi-official websites. Examples include activities by those such as ‘unofficial’ but well organized, funded and officially very connected interests such as and which they support through links to a dirt campaign. Exposé evidence – which will readily be shown to responsible media or other investigators – shows how these forces malign, libel and stalk those well-respected former devotees who now continue to support and air the grievances of the many hundreds of declared ex-followers (obviously including the author of this blog).

Sai Baba’s mystic Moon Region ‘Chandraloka’ and related ideas

Posted by robertpriddy on October 28, 2007

Sathya Sai Baba claimed to have appeared on the moon – a darshan, but at the time the sky was overclouded in Puttaparthi, so none of the massed crowds saw anything! Many devotees elsewhere said they “saw” this, and several concocted bogus images of his face on the moon! His was a truly lunatic showing. World astronomers, including NASA were unperturbed as they made no mention of anything unusual.

He always had a lot to say about the moon, since it figures largely in Indian scripture and superstition in ways in which it naturally does in the culture and beliefs of all largely pre-industrial and simpler ‘primitive’ societies. He identifies the moon as the ‘presiding deity of the mind’ (Sathya Sai Speaks Vol.14, p. 330 and Vol 12 p.13) , and insists that the mind is strongly influenced by its phases, that the “mind is a reflection of the moon”. (What this really means is, of course, anyone’s guess, but it probably sounds rather good to eager believers, who never are allowed to pin him or his statements’ meaning down any further). The full moon is supposed to be the best time for ‘destroying illusion’ (Sathya Sai Speaks Vol.1 p. 21f) and the mind is, according to him “powerless” at the new moon!

If you happen to have a moderate attention span (or want to wait until a full moon to try to take in Sai Baba words on this!), here is his mix of ‘eternal ‘divine’ confused superstition on the subject:- “The mind is like the moon which received its light from the sun. It has no light of its own. It receives its light from the Atma (i.e. eternal soul)” (p. 37 Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol 20.) “The mind arose from the moon,” says the Purusha Shuktha. The Moon has sixteen digits. Likewise the mind has sixteen digits. On Shivarathri night, fifteen of the Moon’s sixteen digits are invisible, so only one digit can be seen. The mind also is in the same state.”

Comment: If you can make any reasonable sense out of that (he never explains it better anywhere), then you’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din! The world community – not to mention its millions of scientists – has not noticed such a huge decline in mental abilities concurrent with the moon’s phases.Sai Baba preaches that a ‘Region of the Moon Principle’ exists (Chandraloka or Moon Region): –
“The residence of the soul in the Chandraloka is what the Hindus refer to as the time spent as a Deva in Heaven or as an Angel according to Christian and Islamic religions…. thousands have risen to that position.” (p. 50, Sathya Sai Vahini).

Comment: So this is a doctrine of Angels as well as Demons (Sai Baba calls his detractors demons)… just like in olden days. There is also both heaven and hell (Narakaloka) in his world view, though – typically of him – he has also elsewhere denied that hell exists – except figuratively on earth!

“The idea of hell is foreign to the spiritual thought of the Bharatiyas. The idea of Hell and the various descriptions of Hell are all later additions in the Sastras and Puranas. The authors of these texts believe that religion would be incomplete if it does not posit Hell. They laid down diverse tortures as part of hell… The purpose for which hell was created was only to incite fear among the people in order to make them desist from sin.” (p. 51 f., Sathya Sai Vahini)

Comment: At last some words that make real sense from Sai Baba! Congratulations. But a shame he goes back on this elsewhere as in Volume 10 of Sathya Sai Speaks:-

A group of scholars who had come to Me recently asked Me, ‘Swaami! You talk of flames of anxiety and fear; but, surely, you appreciate the great step forward that man has taken by landing on the moon!” I told them, it was wrong to spend billions of dollars and roubles on such enterprises. They argued that though there may not be any immediate profit from all that capital lost, its potentialities for good are very great. I said, “It is a question of priorities; first things first. When so many nations upon the Earth are undernourished, undereducated, underhoused, it is sheer absence of discrimination to spend time, skill and money for this spectacular competitive adventure. Later, when the earth has been made the home of a happy family of peoples, such enterprises can be planned.” (Sathya Sai Speaks p. 100 – see scan)

Then we were later told:- “You give importance to Technology which is nothing but “Tricknology”…. Science has developed but the senses have degenerated… Scientists discovered the Atom Bomb and also the Hydrogen Bomb, wasting huge sums of money to produce weapons of mass destruction… Now you have America and Russia leading in the world in technological skill and destructive power. But Bhaarath (i.e. India) is like Dharmaja… Now Bharath is the nation upholding Dharma. When you develop Dharma there is no need to attack or harm anyone. Hence no need to have destructive weaponry.” (p 142, Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 30)

Comment: Odd also is how he claimed: “the senses have degenerated” when the senses are presented by him elsewhere as just about the worst enemy in the quest for the good and knowledge. Yet more strange, is it not, that this self-proclaimed omniscient God who said he knew every detail of the past and future of everyone and everything, did not realise that India – when led by his own devotee, Atal Vihari Vajpayee, would develop India’s nuclear arsenal, test nuclear weapons, build ballistic missiles to deliver them and so started a nuclear arms race with Pakistan? The means to bomb Pakistan were provided by none other than by the devotee ex-President of India, Kalam, who Sai Baba has blessed often in public. However, Sai Baba continued to confuse the issue as follows:-

“The achievements of technology which have taken man to the moon are also events in the Cosmic Drama, where the principle performers are only working out His Plan; identification with the adventure and its success or failure will only make the performers proud or depressed — states which would not help inner peace and joy.”

Comment: What superfluous burbling” However, Sai Baba – with ‘His Will’ – has actually planned the moon visits as part of His Drama! Even though he deplores them completely! Being allegedly Omnipotent – a very great mystery, isn’t it? IF you can believe him at all, THEN it must be a mystery you!

You cannot say ‘Sai Baba is God, he is genuine, but some of the things he says are not right’, because he has proclaimed he is infallible, knows everything, created the entire Universe.

When man fails to use his attainments for the welfare of others he becomes a narakaasura (hellish demon). But, when in a competitive race for individual glory, he spends billions on getting to the Moon and bringing rods from its crust, instead of feeding millions who starve down below and promoting the prosperity of backward nations, he is only condemning himself. Even the best of things can be misused by men. Raavana, Shisupaala, Kamsa, and other demonish persons mentioned in the Indian puranas (ancient legends) and epics had vast scholarship, enormous economic and military power, and even immense yogic and occult skills won by years of austerity, and disciplined living. But, they could not earn one skill, the skill to suppress the ego, and so, they became too obstinate, too obstructive and too dangerous to be allowed to live and prosper. The lesson taught by the careers of Naraka and of Bali is that man should be master of his ego if he is to succeed in the art of successful living.” (Sathya Sai Speaks p. 36 – see scan)

Now there was something I really like (from Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 12) . Such a pity, though., that he has clammed up entirely about all this since the Indian powers-that-be decided to go the whole hog in moon research (not to mention nuclear testing and research). In fact, one may note that Sathya Sai Baba NEVER criticised any Indian Government to its face. One can understand that he always wanted them on his side, as they always protected him from litigation and total disgrace, for reasons of their own prestige and misguided premature committment to him, his undoubted vote-catching powers in the South and his untaxed money and unaccountable financial operations. Yet nor did he take issue with any of those who practice the most terrible corruptions, cover-ups of terrorism and religious slaughter and any number of other items in the compendium of on-going calamities in India! He spoke in general terms, but left the crooks to continue without even saying ‘boo’ to one of them. One has to wonder why, considering that he promised back in the 1960s to Dr. J. Hislop that he and his students would regenerate India’s morals very soon, (but completely in vain, alas for the poor of India!)

Deceiving ‘devotee’ makes bogus image of Sai in the Moon

Posted by robertpriddy on October 25, 2007

>It is noteworthy how far devotees will go to try to deceive others that they have experienced Sai ‘miracles’Why they bother can be explained, for example, by the extra popularity and respect they hope to gain from other blind followers for being ‘blessed by Svami with a special darshan’ and for other selfish reasons. Well, it so happens that the moon on October 23 was not full but was still ‘waxing gibbous’, as can be seen from the following image taken from the astronomical website This shows the moon two days before full moon. Full moon did not occur until Oct 26 04:52, according to NASA.

However, the falsifier who put together the deceptive image presented a completely circular moon. Why would any devotee make such an image of Sai Baba on the moon and circulate it unless it was to create the delusion – one sustained independently by numerous claimants at this location – that Sai Baba DID actually appear on the face of the moon? That this was a wholly transparent fraudulence, in fact a wilful, and outright lie, cannot be doubted (except by extreme Sai fanatics or perhaps those whose minds have flipped)! Of course, had this occurred (except perhaps in the over-heated imagination of some devotees), it would have been global news story No. 1. The Indian news media reports on the failure of the predicted ‘moon darshan’ and the disappointment of the huge and chaotic local crowds who had assembled for it. See scans of some such reports by clicking here.

Note: the following text, cached on the web was sent to me by a contact:->Wed Oct 24, 2007 8:45 Sairam, Dear all, this is not a real image, but im sending what i could see and visualise, what we all saw yesterday looking at the moon. there was not need to imagine a shape or make a guess the visual on moon was as clear as the image im sending now. HIS hair, eyes, nose and even HIS smile was very clear. Sairam, enjoy! HIS blessings. yours sincerley, darpan

Comment: This makes very clear that Darpan Rane himself DID try to deceive everyone into believing (with the aid of a bogus image – even though he also wrote it is not a ‘real image’) that Sathya Sai Baba miraculously appeared on the face of the moon. He may well have believed it himself, but is not this a ‘lunatic’ assertion? Apart from three or four others who supported this ‘miracle claim’, why did not one single astronomer (there are hundreds of thousands of them) come out in support of this belief?

Oops! Apparently Sai Baba DID appear on the moon?

Posted by robertpriddy on October 24, 2007

While one fanatical apologist who was nowhere near India at the time claims that Sai Baba never even said he would appear on the moon, others claim that he actually did! Funny, though, how 20,000 people or so (some report 14,000, but no one really counts these crowds) rushed to the airport if no one had said a thing about a moon miracle? There’s something wrong somewhere.

Vivek Kumar wrote on his blog:-

“Yes it happened last night—Sri Sathya Sai Baba did appear in moon last night, and my friends have reported to have seen Him at around 11:00 PM (IST). Yes dear friends, after the earlier declaration that he would show his Vishav Virat Roop (Cosmic Form) to the crowd at the Puttaparthi Airport, it has been done last night. Many people were agog with the words that “Sai Baba’s Moon Miracle Failed”. However, it is been done now and we can revel the mystery of this Avatar.”

And there were 3 comments too!

1) vikiiiiiiii said… Even my parents and friends told that they saw saibaba in moon…every one was wonder stuck
2) Anonymous said… Swami has appeared in the moon tonight as well around the same time as Monday night. Amazing.
3) Rajavelu said… Yes we too have seen this in Abudhabi too.

It’s interesting how the Sathya Sai Organisation, Radio Sai and all the official and semi-official Sai websites avoid the issues with the veritable “silence of the grave”. Wonder why? Not a word to confirm or deny anything! The failed moon miracle issue is very prominently reported in Indian press reports and on many websites and blogs.

This ‘personal religious experience’ of miracles is not confined to Sai Baba followers, however, for Mohammed is said to prevailed on God have ‘split’ the moon into two halves so as to cause some people to believe!
See, for example, NASA Photos Prove Splitting of the Moon, Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) Miracle

How can these ‘miracles’ occur, but only for a handful of people, while astronomers around the world see absolutely zilch? (I can almost ‘hear’ some devotees thinking “Astronomers and star-gazers are unworthy people who are therefore not granted this blessed darshan”. But then again there were the 200,000 devotees at the airport who did not get it either).

Sam Harris excerpt

Richard Dawkins has some pertinent comments on how ‘personal religious experiences’ come about which the ‘blind believer’ should learn:-

“The human brain runs first-class simulation software. Our eyes don’t present to our brains a faithful photograph of what is out there, or an accurate movie of what is going on through time. Our brains construct a continuously updated model” and….
“Constructing models is something the human brain is very good at. When we are asleep it is called dreaming; when we are awake we call it imagination or, when it is exceptionally vivid, hallucination. As Chapter 10 will show, children who have ‘imaginary friends’ sometimes see them clearly, exactly as if they were real. If we are gullible, we don’t recognize hallucination or lucid dreaming for what it is and we claim to have seen or heard a ghost; or an angel; or God; or – especially if we happen to be young, female and Catholic – the Virgin Mary. Such visions and manifestations are certainly not good grounds for believing that ghosts or angels, gods or virgins, are actually there. On the face of it mass visions, such as the report that seventy thousand pilgrims at Fatima in Portugal in 1917 saw the sun tear itself from the heavens and come crashing down upon the multitude’, are harder to write off. It is not easy to explain how seventy thousand people could share the same hallucination. But it is even harder to accept that it really happened without the rest of the world, outside Fatima, seeing it too – and not just seeing it, but feeling it as the catastrophic destruction of the solar system, including acceleration forces sufficient to hurl everybody into space.” From ‘The God Delusion’ by Richard Dawkins, p. 115.
This moon madness episode – incredibly bungled deception propaganda – is the latest in a lifetime of deceits by Sathya Sai Baba, as can be studied at leisure here.

Why build moon rockets when Sai Baba has mantras?

Posted by robertpriddy on October 20, 2007

Sai Baba and India’s moonshot project

India has announced that it plans to explore the Moon and will send an unmanned probe there by 2008. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) calls the Moon flight project Chandrayan Pratham, [} which has been translated as First Journey to the Moon or Moonshot One.” [from]

Now, the website’s review of Indian Space History says not a word about the ancient history of Indian moon travel. Yet to some it will see peculiar that the coming hoped-for moon visit is heralded as being the first journey. Those will be all believers in the self-proclaimed infallible and omniscient Avatar, Sathya Sai Baba. It is true that Sathya Sai Baba was unable to make his appearance on the face of the moon October 4th last as his close servitor Anil Kumar had beforehand announced he had just said he would. Later, when nothing happened except a crowd problem, it was said to be “postponed”. So will Sai Baba get to bestride the moon before the Indian government project arrives? Well, moon visits by Indians is nothing new at all, as all assiduous students of Sai Baba and his intimate knowledge of all events that have ever taken place must surely realise? The Prime Minister and ex-President Kalam must surely have read their Sathya Sai Baba on several former Indian moon visitors like the legendary Hiranyakasipu and others. Sai Baba’s scientific advisor, Dr. G. Venkataraman, has never commented on these matters, and one must wonder why. Does he NOT believe his Lord and master’s assurances, perhaps?

Sai Baba has often said that mantras enabled Rama to fly in his sky vehicle and that Ravanna had mastery of all the worldly sciences and possessed all these mantric powers too (but was lustful, hence his demise!) and that Vishvamitra taught the mantras originally to the incarnations of God and himself created a double universe (!!). Having the Supreme Godhead, Sathya Sai, available for interview, why should the Indian Government spend billions of rupees when a word or two in the ear of, say, ex-President Kalam – Sai’s favourite nuclear delivery vehicle designer – would surely soon solve the whole problem of visiting the moon? Unless, that is, Sai Baba has perhaps forgotten the mantras, due to his degenerate condition?

Let us refresh our minds with what Sathya Sai Baba has often said on this fascinating subject – and has personally allowed to be published occasionally too… see More non-credible ’stories’ presented as fact by Sathya Sai Baba

More Sathya Sai Baba Moon Madness

Posted by robertpriddy on October 19, 2007

lunacy at Puttaparthi
Viswa Virat Swaroop darshan – “Moon Darshan”

Sai Baba’s absurd and utterly failed attempt to engender interest and faith in the minds of his Indian followers by pretending he would be seen on the moon on the eve of October 4 th – apparently only from the Sathya Sai Airport is not the only lunar escapade he has contrived.
In one of the best-selling Indian books about him, Baba: Sathya Sai in two volumes by Ra. Ganapati of Madras, Sathya Sai Baba is reported as doing many literally incredible miracles like ‘bringing down the moon to earth’. These accounts defy all reason and common sense, and the claims obviously cannot be checked, any more than can the stories in ‘Sindbad the Sailor’ or ‘Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves’. However, one can give Ganapati and his informants near to 100% for imaginative fantasy. See here:-

Ganapati wrote that on 8/12/1973 on a stop with Sathya Sai between Prashanthi Nilayam and Brindavan devotees threw stones at a wood-apple tree and brought down one unripe fruit:-
“Svami bent down and picked it up. Holding it between the thumb and forefinger He said, “Here is the moon”! When He closed His palm over the piece for an instant and opened it again, the fruit was no longer found. Instead an unusual article was in his hand.
It was a translucent sphere. The sunlight was gorgeously reflected out of its surface.
Though as a whole it was luminiscent there were several dim and even dark spots inside. Multi-hued veins of minerals could also be seen. Superficially smooth-surfaced, it revealed elevations and depressions inside.
“The mini-moon, made up of all the ingredients of the moon”, observed Baba.
Only a few days before, the newspapers had carried photographs of both sides of the moon transmitted by spacecraft. All their features could be precisely perceived in this three-D-mini-moon. More than that, it was refracting the spectrum of colours in sunshine.
The party enjoyed the picnic in the glades. Svami held up the mini-moon finally to sunlight. The solar rays glancing off the outer rim sprayed gold. “Do you see the moon rise?” asked Sai, as pleasing as the moon itself.
With one more folding and unfolding of His hand, the mini-moon set! It had returned to its old wood-apple birth! (Baba: Sathya Sai by Ra. Ganapati, p. 83f).

One asks which astronomical buff was on hand to examine the wood-apple moon and state that all the features of the moon photos could be perceived “precisely” in the mini-moon? How could it “spray gold” and have “refracted the spectrum of colours” which the actual moon never does? Was it then just a mottled glass sphere, perhaps, such as has been widely on sale in the past? The comparison of Sai Baba to the moon – “pleasing as the moon itself” – cuts both ways – the moon may look romantic but it is in fact barren, inhospitable, and in essence VERY cold! Stranger still, there is no other account anywhere by a witness of this lunatic matter… did not one of them consider this worth recording, or at least telling other Sai Baba writers like Prof. Kasturi about it.

The explanation of this story could easily lie in the extreme power of suggestion to create perceptive hallucination (some call it ‘hypnosis’ or ‘trance’) to which all devotees are prone through much indoctrination about miracles and Sai Baba’s omnipotence. Another impressive exponent of this is British Derren Brown, some few of whose many extraordinary and ‘genuine’ illusions can be seen on YouTube, which he often explains too (see his website here).

But did Sai baba not appear on the moon after all? Some say ‘yes’ – see here

Sai Baba as the Islamic Saviour ‘Mahdi’?

Posted by robertpriddy on October 11, 2007

Iran Pres. at UNIran and Baba

Sathya Sai Baba has been heralded as the Islamic messiah, the Mahdi and much has been written to try to prove he is ‘the one’. Indeed, this extremely inauthenticated text is publicised in a faked translation of Persian prophetic texts in Sai Baba’s self-glorifying Chaitanya Jyoti museum at Prashanthi Nilayam. Yet it would be difficult, if not impossible to find Sai Baba accepted as the Mahdi (much less accepted at all) by prominent religious-political Islamic figures, not least those who accept the notion of the foretold appearance of the Mahdi. One report noted that President Ahmadinejad at the U.N. General Assembly on September 26, 2007 again did as he had done the previous year in the same venue; opened his speech by praying to Allah to “hasten the arrival of Imam al-Mahdi….” “the promised one,” the one who “will fill this world with justice and peace.” Wisely, he did not mention the fuller revelation, that the Madhi would come at the end of time and a great apcocalypse would ensue).

The Mahdi claims wrote off Ahmadinejad as a primitive kind of Shiite believer. Yet this belief has been – and still is – widely encountered in the history of the Islamic world, probably as widespread as is that of the Second Coming of Christ and the Judgement Day of the Book of Revelations. Such apocalyptic visions are also part and parcel of Hinduism, and Sathya Sai Baba also dabbled in various apocalyptic scenarios of this type. Here are a few excerpts from reports on Ahmadinejad’s “vision” at the U.N., which is strangely reminiscent and alarmingly similar to statements he has made about his personal role in ushering in the return of the Shiite Muslim messiah:- “On the last day when I was speaking, one of our group told me that when I started to say ‘Bismillah Muhammad,’ he saw a green light come from around me, and I was placed inside this aura,” he says. “I felt it myself. I felt that the atmosphere suddenly changed, and for those 27 or 28 minutes, all the leaders of the world did not blink. When I say they didn’t move an eyelid, I’m not exaggerating. They were looking as if a hand was holding them there, and had just opened their eyes – Alhamdulillah!”

The next, more public venue for Khameini’s mouthpiece was the now-famous Columbia University speech, in which he proclaimed that there was no homosexuality in Iran, courting the helpless laughter of the large and well-educated audience. Ahmadinejad began his talk by praying for Allah to “hasten the arrival of Imam al-Mahdi.” Yet no one, in the ensueing Q & A, bothered to ask him about this! Shi`ism’s self-styled spokesman tried to garner favor with his audience by reminding them that he is an academic himself and still teaches university students. One commentator (see Link below) wrote: “Ahmadi-nezhad broke new theological ground, even within Shia Islam, by claiming that not only would the Mahdi come, but that Allah himself will arrive with Moses and Christ and Muhammad to rule the world.” This was allowed to “pass without investigation, because the moderators were unprepared—or perhaps simply uncomfortable—with it.” From Everybody’s Got Something to Hide, Except for Me and the Mahdi

“He sees his main mission, as he recounted in a Nov. 16 speech in Tehran, as to “pave the path for the glorious reappearance of Imam Mahdi, may Allah hasten his reappearance.” “People are anxious to know when and how will He rise; what they must do to receive this worldwide salvation,” says Ali Lari, a cleric at the Bright Future Institute in Iran’s religious center of Qom: “The timing is not clear, but the conditions are more specific,” he adds. “There is a saying: ‘When the students are ready, the teacher will come.’”  Ahmadinejad and others in Iran are deadly serious about the imminent return of the 12th imam, who will prompt a global battle between good and evil – with striking parallels to biblical accounts of “Armageddon.”” (WorldNetDaily: Iran prepares people for ‘messiah miracles’ )

Comment: The above saying about the teacher’s coming closely reflects what Sathya Sai Baba has stated about himself, that he is the Universal teacher come to save humanity. He is hailed as the Mehdi Mou’d by Zeba Bashiruddin, a Moslem teacher at his women’s college in Anantapur, near to his Puttaparthi ashram, and who he has made efforts to persuade (Shiite) Muslims to accept him. Like Ali Lari (above). Sai Baba has also said: When the soil is ready, the seed appears from somewhere! The Spiritual guru will be alerted and the thirst will get quenched.” (Sathya Sai Baba in Sathya Sai Vahini, p. 97. SSB Books and Publications Trust)

For a most thorough account and researched analysis of the carefully cultivated rumour that Sathya Sai Baba fulfils the requirements of the Islamic prophesy of the coming Mahdi [aka Mehdi Moud] saviour, see Sai Baba as the Islamic messiah, the Mahdi: and

Also see ‘Followers of Islam maligned by the Sathya Sai Baba movement’: As to some kind of Armageddon, Sai Baba has also leaked many rumours about this. One can see the propaganda about Sai Baba’s world leadership being prophesied in an [alleged] Islamic source here.

Who is Sai Baba and what is Robert Priddy’s agenda?

Posted by robertpriddy on October 10, 2007

Anyone who reads a fair selection of my webpages about Sathya Sai Baba may ask why I am so concentrated on exposing his faults, lies, deceptions, failed promises and prophesies, and on bringing forth the allegations against him for widespread sexual abuses, murder complicity and cover-up.
So why do I no longer – as once I did – praise him, promote his teachings or enthuse about any good works he has done? (More to the point, his followers’ works done in his name)

The simple answer is that I discovered what a huge abuse of faith he perpetrates on his followers. I was taken in until I learned despite all my hopes and wishes that he is involved in lies, crime and major deception. Therefore I cannot recommend his in ANY way, whatever else he may have done, good or indifferent. Moreover, I have a duty to make known what I have learned that only few others who dare speak out know to be true, to protect the vulnerable and provide the information for those who do not wish to fall into any of his traps. My duty is partly also indicated by the fact that I have believed in him (mistakenly) and worked for 18 years to forward his ‘mission’, not least through writings many articles and a book supporting him and leading one of his ‘spiritual centres’, all of which has led too many persons into his clutches.

Until 2000 there were few critical articles to be found anywhere and until then his deceptions had much success… nearly all who knew about him and followed him believed his assurances that he is a pure, ever-truthful, faultless, self-sacrificing and not least celibate person. Unfortunately, none of these claims hold water any longer. His image is rightfully now seriously flawed. I applaud this because his negative and untruthful activities and words have been undiscovered and/or overlooked for so long. My task is therefore to demonstrate his untold lies and abuses to the exclusion of anything that can be said in his favour. As to who Sai Baba is, enough is already indicated on this blog and my main critical webpage on Sai Baba to answer that question more than adequately for most people.

Sai Baba postpones moon buggy ride

Google News Alert for: Sathya Sai Baba
Thousands disappointed as Sai Baba’s ‘moon miracle’ fails
Waning popularity! This was no doubt another in a long, long line of calculated ‘rumours’ for the grinding minds of devotees who can’t find out what’s going on and are dead keen to know anything… But why Sathya Sai Baba went to the airport is truly a mystery in itself, for he knew he could never appear on the moon. How can this be explained? There are many possible interpretations (for the blindfolded believer to choose between)…

1) He was on the moon all right but the clouds were necessary to hide his blinding brilliance. But perhaps the crowds misunderstood him and expected a great mahima miracle… instead of the vague shape of the Sai afro frizz which can just about be visualised from the moon’s darker area. His afro-frizz can vaguely be seen if one is very willing in the darker parts of the moon – but that is always there on a fullish moon. The Sai official didn’t realise that this was what Sai Baba meant?

3) Or, no less likely, he was there – on the Dark Side of the Moon, together with Pink Floyd and Michael Jackson in Never-never land? (because the moon was not full but showed mostly only a dark face). Slight problem with these explanations? He did not disappear when sitting watching in the wheelchair! Never fear, everyone knows he can easily bi-locate himself… yep, reckon he must be there for he could never tell a lie?

Andhra Café reports that the coming miracle was announced in advance by Sai Baba’s naive servitor, Anil Kumar, and the ensuing scenes were chaotic with Puttaparthi villagers and devotees in thousands chanting Sai Baba’s name and blocking the airport.

TV broadcasts were made and, when the allegedly omnipotent and all-knowing Sai Baba did NOT appear on the moon (due to unpredictable weather). Instead he was trapped for about one hour in his car amid the uncontrollable crowds, which also caused closure of the airport. The Vishvarupa Darshanam ceremony has to be “postponed” because, according to Sathya Sai Trust officials, of “non-cooperation of devotees and the cloudy weather”.

A postponement means that this miraculous darshan WILL be resumed at some later date! Let’s wait and see… perhaps Sathya Sai Baba will also soon lift a range of mountains, as he has also once announced and published, among many other utterly incredible fantasies?

Read more Sai Baba man in the moon mythology here.

See how some claim to have seen Sai Baba on the moon anyhow!

How the Sathya Sai Organization Avoids all Accountability

Russian Sai baba site banner

All-Round Defence on the Russian Forum ‘Sathya Sai Ru’   The following appeal was posted on 17th 2006 on the forum Sathya Sai Ru, the biggest forum of the Russian followers of Sathya Sai Baba.

APPEAL of Forum Sathya Sai Ru Administration to all the participantsUnprepossessing Facts: As a result of growth of Bhagavan’s fame in India and around the world some people started their activities in order to undermine Swami’s reputation.
Causes of the Propaganda: They are motivated by unfulfilled hopes and resentments towards Bhagavan.
Results of the Propaganda: They spread
rumours and unchecked facts about Sathya Sai Baba’s life and create chaos in innocent minds not spoiled with calumnies.
We want: The Forum Administration wants to support the common sense and spirit of the participants and to protect their peace of mind.

We ask: 1. To ignore false rumours and unchecked facts, delete letters from strangers who suggest that you should read some “interesting” and “secret” stories about Bhagavan.
2. To refuse deliberately to disseminate rumours, not to send your friends “interesting” links and letters so that not to help to weave a web of lies and calumny.
3. To inform the administration of the forum about any letters and messages attacking Sathya Sai Baba’s name.We believe: We believe in purity of intentions. Sooner or later the foam of lies will dissolve in the ocean of truth.

I, Serguei Badaev,  was a follower of Sathya Sai Baba from 1995 till 2000 and was a chairman of the Moscow Sathya Sai centre and co-ordinator for Sathya Sai Education programme. Now being among the critics of Sathya Sai Baba I would like to share my view of the whole situation that is quite different from that of the Sathya Sai Ru administration. My comments follow the structure of the appeal.

Unprepossessing Facts
A lot of unprepossessing facts of the Sathya Sai Baba’s life have been discovered during the last 5-6 years. Today there are a lot of his ex-followers who quite unexpectedly discovered a dark side of this Indian guru. The first material which collected a number of witnesses was posted on the Internet in 2000 by David and Faye Bailey. They were very close to Sathya Sai Baba and were shocked when they saw and knew a lot of things that always are covered from the rank and file. That posting was called “The Findings”. Apparently, that material was on some points too emotional and not quite substantial but it made a great impact on followers to start to investigate the whole situation. As a result, hundreds of pages of witnesses and analytical materials have appeared on two main critical web sites ( and ) and more that 1200 signatures support the international petition ( A lot of followers have left Sathya Sai Baba and his international organisation. It is hardly correct to claim growth of Sathya Sai Baba’s fame in India and in the world. In India Sathya Sai Baba is a very controversial figure (one of the so called “jet gurus”), and many Indians do not hide their negative attitude or suspicion towards him.

Causes of the Propaganda
The authors of the appeal just repeat someone’s words that those who criticise Sathya Sai Baba are motivated by unfulfilled hopes and resentments. How could they know that? Do not they disseminate rumours by saying so? They should be reminded that many of Sathya Sai Baba critics were very close to him or were very active in his organisation for 10-15 years and several founder members of Sai organization centers with 20 or 30 years involvement before they knew about his dark side. Perhaps it is more accurate to say that they sacrificed their closeness to Sai Baba and his positions in the organisation for the sake of truth and justice.

Results of the Propaganda
It is worth noting that the dissemination of unchecked facts and rumours about so called miracles of Sathya Sai baba is not called propaganda by his devotees but they call it stories about Avatar’s leelas (divine sports). The critics of Sai Baba do have to analyse rumours and unchecked facts in some cases, because Sathya Sai Baba and his coterie cover up and distort many facts and doing so they consciously or unconsciously promote rumours.

On the one hand, the administration wants to support common sense and spirit and, on the other hand, to keep the peace of mind of the forum participants. I think they can hardly support common sense by blocking discussions on the forum. Perhaps the peace of mind of the proverb “ignorance is bliss” is right.

They ask  The recommendations of the forum administration can be called “all-round defense”. I would reformulate them as follows: to support and disseminate only those rumours and unchecked facts that glorify Sathya Sai Baba as an Avatar and to inform the authorities about everybody who, as it seems to devotees, vilify Sai Baba’s name.

They believe
I guess that many critics of Sai Baba believe that the truth is more powerful than a lie and that justice will prevail after all. So we agree that far.  Although the forum proclaims itself as a community of truth seekers, it puts strong limitations on its participants. They must accept the divinity of Sathya Sai. They are not allowed to make any statements which can be qualified as disrespect or criticism to Sathya Sai or his teachings or his organisation. They should evade any discussion on any point but display only love and understanding. It seems to be more proper to call this forum a community of promotion exclusively to devotion to Sai Baba,  because if the truth happens to trespass the limitations, it will be sacrificed for the sake of devotion. It really looks quite sectarian.

Below you can see my correspondence with one of two administrators of the forum, Kirill Borodin. He is an office-bearer of the Sathya Sai Organisation in Russia and is a co-ordinator of the Youth Wing. This correspondence is a good illustration of SSB followers and the Sai Organisation’s inability to open and sincere dialogue.
Dear administrators and moderators of Sathya Sai Ru forum! I am writing to you with regard to the situation around Sathya Sai Baba. As you may know some people believe he is a spiritual master and avatar, at the same time some other people believe that he is a cheat and charlatan. Those people who try to figure out the matter and read the materials posted on the Internet feel confused as they see two completely different versions that cannot be both true. One of these two versions is inevitably wrong. Of course, each party hopes that they are right, but we are all humans and we are prone to make mistakes and to be biased. Perhaps it is a good idea to arrange an open and sincere dialogue between these two parties with the main goal – to clarify all the points as much and to approach the truth as close as possible.  If you think that Sathya Sai Ru forum is not a proper place for this we can do it by exchanging e-mails or arranging a special meeting in Moscow. For the beginning of the dialogue I suggest you write a letter of review with the analysis of the posted critical materials about Sathya Sai Baba. Your critical review, which clarifies your position can be posted on if you find it suitable.    It seems to me that, if this discussion really takes place, both parties will win as I believe this will allow us to come nearer to the truth which we all look for and value so much. If during the discussion some mistakes or discrepancy in the materials posted on are revealed, I, as the editor, will do all my best to correct those materials or to remove them from the web site.
Faithfully yours,
Serguei Badaev
3rd September 2006

I do not know if my letter has reached the second administrator of the forum, Serguei Moisseev, and four moderators. Anyway, I have got a reply only from Kirill Borodin.

Dear Serguei Badaev,
I want to tell you at once that there will be no dialogue between us. To support such a dialogue is like taking part in a conversation with a man who tries to persuade you that you have had no mother. No mother at all. You may have some doubt for a moment but sooner or later you will understand that this way of thinking is inappropriate.
Sathya Sai Baba repeatedly answers all your questions in his discourses. Please read the topics where relevant quotations are given.About criticism:

About anti-sites:
Do not try to assure us in your kind intentions of “looking for the truth”. Your aim is clear and distinct – criticism. So be sure for the future and do not waste your time – you will always find a firm opposition from me. Other devotees and I have no such a task “to correct the misguided” whereas you, as I can see, have one.  Sai Ram. With love, Kirill Borodin

Serguei, sooner or later you will have to stop – you’d better do it now. To throw mud on other people is a thankless task and I am sure you are tired of it. “Those who meditate on other people’s vices will acquire them”. Do stop. You do not have to answer. You won’t get any more answers from me or from the administration of Sathya Sai Ru.

International Petition concerning Sathya Sai Baba

Posted by robertpriddy on October 3, 2007

Information on the Public Petition for Official Investigations of Sathya Sai Baba and His Worldwide Organization
See also Devotee attacks on the Sai petition and petitioners
The so-called ‘Sai petition’ (Public Petition for Official Investigations of Sathya (or Satya) Sai Baba and His Worldwide Organization) was terminated in 2013 as it had served its purpose… connecting dissidents and allowing a place for comments about the various alleged crimes of Sai Baba  and his organisation (sex abuses, deceptions, murders, cover-ups etc.)

Public Petition for Official Investigations of Sathya Sai Baba and His Worldwide Organization
To:  All governments, human rights institutions, all religious and spiritual leaders, NGOs, politicians and official functionaries, and the media organizations of all countries.

Over 1,600 persons signed the petition for a legal process against Sathya Sai Baba. These include a long list of former devotees, founder members of the Sathya Sai Organization in many countries and many former office-bearers.  In 2001, the Indian Supreme Court’s Sai-devoted judges summarily threw out a petition brought against Sathya Sai Baba for sexual molestation of numerous foreign young men [several having been brought up from childhood to believe he is God Almighty Himself]. However, the official evidence of the petition in the Supreme Court’s archives were illegally removed, but despite this one copy was obtained in advance by the petitioners and  verified by affidavit. The prominent Indian lawyer and Senior Attorney of the Supreme Court, Kamini Jaiswal conducted the petition against Sathya Sai Baba, which was rejected by the judges appointed by the Sai devotee Justice Anand. (See further here). This travesty of justice is not atypical of the Supreme Court, as the Indian media have repeatedly reported in numerous incidents. Though Sathya Sai Baba has escaped justice so far through his top level governmental and judicial protection, the pertinent information is available and the international community can easily access the documentation. The Sai petition was the product of the JuST group, then 32 former office-bearers or prominent professionals who were once followers of Sai Baba.

Sathya Sai Baba’s Megalomania in full bloom

Posted by robertpriddy on October 2, 2007

Note that five Prime Ministers of India, including the present Manmohan Singh, have accepted Sathya Sai Baba and the Indian Government protects him militarily and the judiciary from any court cases against him! Also the past three Presidents of India! Are all these people living in a deranged wonderland?

Excerpt from Dr. G. Venkataraman’s fabulating Radio Sai

“But Bhagavan had said He would go. And so, on the due date, He set forth with a few dignitaries to
East Godavari. When they approached the river it was in full spate. The district officials tried to dissuade the party from attempting to cross the bridge.

They insisted that Swami had to give a declaration that He is taking the journey at His own risk. Consider the irony of the situation where God had to assure them of what He does.

“Nothing Will Happen To Anyone Who Is With Me!”Bhagavan wrote there: “Nothing will happen to anyone who is with Me!” Who can give this assurance except the Lord of the Universe? And so, a small boat was arranged to ferry Bhagavan across to the other side. And it was in such a position that it had to go under the bridge to reach the far shore. The devotees gathered on either side of the river to see what would happen. By now the water level had risen so high that when the boat reached the bridge it was lashing the roof and there was absolutely no space for the boat to pass beneath it. The people waited eagerly and anxiously wondering what would happen.

Bhagavan instructed the people in the boat, “Close your eyes. Do not watch what will happen.” Then, in a fraction of a second, the boat suddenly disappeared and appeared on the other side! Imagine the roar of the devotees on both sides drowning out the roar of the river. The joy that surged through their hearts was greater even than the flood arising from the Godavari River. And as promised, Bhagavan reached the home at exactly 9:00 a.m. During a public meeting He said, “When I came as Rama, the ocean gave way; it had to give! When I came as Krishna , Yamuna gave way! When I came as Sai, what is Godavari?”

How standpoints change as understanding progresses

Posted by robertpriddy on October 1, 2007

Some may find it helpful to know how a follower of Sai Baba for so many years can be liberated from the delusions, the labyrinth of explanations, deceptions and powerful social and other cloying cultish influences. Even my current standpoint as regards Sathya Sai Baba has changed very considerably – though mostly gradually – on many issues since I first became disaffected. What I learned forced me to discard the belief in his truthfulness and nearly every claim he made, despite my attempts through the years to explain away the mounting mass of evidence to the contrary (also in his own journal). Due to his indoctrinating ‘teaching’, and my entire project to forward what I trusted to be his genuine goodness having lasted for decades, there is a very strong impetus for anyone to deny all that does not fit the picture one held.

Having studied every single writing of Sathya Sai Baba until at least 2000 – concentrating on the positive aspects and disregarding what failed to make sense or seemed misguided (explaining this away in many different ways from bad translation to his inscrutability and ‘testing’ of faith etc.) I grew more and more uncomfortable. I had trustingly accepted that his materialization were genuine, they seemed so and thousands insisted they were. But I was as naive as all the others then in that I had little knowledge of the techniques of stage deception and powerful suggestions (‘instant hypnosis’). In the years following my final disaffection, I began to look critically at all I had experienced and read of him and all the testimony and behavioural traits of other follower I knew very well. This was an entirely taboo approach for anyone who was still a service worker, a leader in the Sathya Sai Organization and so on, but not so after resigning.

Though I had been extremely uncomfortable with an increasing number of Sai Baba’s bogus statements on scientific, historical and scientific, I had not let that influence my overall positive agenda as to some of the main ideals Sai Baba supports which I always did accept. After 2000 and my forced rejection of Sai Baba’s basic claims of truthfulness, a very instructive process of new understanding began and continues to this day, i.e. the deconstruction of the deceptions backed by the huge myth of Sai Baba and most of the ‘spirituality’ he proclaims. Despite his having forwarded some good works in India (also, it is fair to note, with financial and other contributions from myself), I am no longer inclined to believe much of what he says at all, nor do I believe in his so-called materializations – I reserve judgement on the issue, for I now know there are alternative explanations for everything I had experienced, but had interpreted (mistakenly) according to the inculcated Sai Baba ‘teaching’, which relies on long tried and tested Indian forms of religious self-indoctrination (as do most religions, once one has for some reason taken the first steps of believing).

I have written much to enable those who want to understand more about how a follower of Sai Baba for so many years can break free and de-programme oneself from the labyrinth of explanations, deceptions and powerful social and other cultish influences. One series on Sathya Sai Baba cult worship disempowerment should explain the main lines in self-recovery.  A former professional in philosophy and social science, it was natural for me to explore every avenue of explanation and change standpoint as the evidence emerges, rather than stick in one position and theory. This is not comprehensible to those whose minds have stultified or are trapped in indoctrinated and self-bolstered faith, and none more so than most persons who are still under the influence of Sathya Sai Baba or other deceptive and unwholesome Indian gurus.

Robert Priddy (see a my fuller credo here).
