Sathya Sai’s fame as God & miracle-maker

Sai Baba has many times most strongly disparaged anyone who seeks or values name and fame, He has called them “as disgusting as spittle” (p. 147, Sanathana Sarathi May 1987) and in his published discourse he has frequently ridiculed other gurus who seek name and fame (see for example p 75, Prema Vahini).

He told Dr. John Hislop that world-fame for Sai by publicity is without value (p. 193, My Baba & I, Dr. John Hislop), yet he has made a massive publicity efforts on his own behalf. He says he has no need to seek fame (see p. 64, Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 11 new ed.), but he allows his constant and repetitive discourses to be broadcast and rebroadcast on digital radio world-wide 24 hours a day… he has his own journal, blesses countless published books, films and videos solely about himself. He builds massive costly buildings always used in advertising his name and fame? If all that is not Hypocrisy (with a capital ‘H’) then who knows what it?

Sathya Sai Baba has also said in a discourse some years ago, “I will do anything, even sacrifice my name and fame, if it will lead one devotee towards liberation.” Think, such a huge sacrifice! It shows he considers his name and fame a great thing!. If name and fame are “as spittle”, what is so huge about this huge sacrifice of his name and fame Sathya Sai Baba would make? Such self-obsession is pathological narcissism. But the literal acceptance of all his boasts and self-contradictions by so many followers is also a form of a flawed or weak personality. The much-trumpeted good he does (or rather, his devotees do) can never cancel the great infamies of which he stands accused by so many young men and other witnesses?

Some advice for Sathya Sai Baba to take to heart from his own backyard: “Every act should be done sincerely, with no yearning for acquiring personal profit, fame or benefit.” (Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol. 12., p. 246)
