Sathya Sai Baba teaching on sexuality

Posted by robertpriddy on July 6, 2008

Held by devotees and himself to be The Universal Teacher supreme, Sathya Sai Baba avoids giving any teaching on sexual issues or related problems like HIV and AIDS. This is a remarkable and most revealing fact, that he has never discoursed on human sexuality other than in a few words to preach chastity for youth and even praising this as best for all even within marriage! He has nothing constructive to say about the huge problem of sexually-transmitted diseases in India or elsewhere other than avoidance of sexual behaviour. Note that homosexuality is a totally taboo subject for him! See for example this stringent demand, which is totally unrealistic in its monastic repressionism, in the quotation scanned from his journal on the right here:-

Sathya Sai Baba on sexual abstension

Why is sexuality such a taboo for Sathya Sai Baba? The sexual impulse is so fundamental to human life and the sexual drive is the source of so many personal, social and power problems in the world, that any teacher of spirituality worth his salt would give instruction on the complex issues involved.

The extremely puritanical ideals Sai Baba holds up are almost totally alien and unworkable in the modern world, and no less in India. There is nothing ‘spiritual’ about avoiding the issues connected with sexuality. This ‘Divine Know-all’ dare not talk about subjects like condoms, prostitution, AIDS and especially not homosexuality. One may ask why, considering the mass of testimony that he is has been an active homosexual and abuser throughout his adult life.

Sathya Sai Baba avoids any questions about sex if they were a plague (except reportedly in the privacy of the interview room or with close confidantes like Col. Joga Rao with whom V. K. Narasimhan and others have reported Sai Baba would laugh at sexual jokes).

Sathya Sai Baba has a lot to hide. His entire operation and private life (behind closed doors) is entirely cloaked in secrecy and tight security while all his institutions are totally unaccountable to public scrutiny. Only what they choose to publish is known, and this is very sparse material and without details or proper documentation. Everyone who tries to get anywhere near to the facts knows how one is treated, as were the whole BBC team who were invited to the ashram to film, but were thrown out after asking quite normal questions. Sai Baba’s his life-negating puritanical teachings are another telling sign of a concealed sexuality (in this case homosexuality, for which he stands so widely accused, and also pedophilia). He is protected from prosecution by the most powerful leaders in India, who worship him and kiss his feet, but do not know what happens behind his closed doors (though even the for Supreme Court Chief Justice, Bhagwati, and Prime Minister Vajpayee, most ill-advisedly claimed they knew! Without a shred of investigation or examination of the evidence).

Sai Baba promised Rs. 100,000 to orphan parents

Sathya Sai Baba quotation from Sanathana Sarathi

Sathya Sai Baba quotation from Sanathana Sarathi

Sathya Sai Baba said:I came across a tragic incident in a newspaper. It was about an uneducated and helpless mother and her three children. They were in such a pathetic state of poverty that the mother had to starve herself in order to feed her children. As their situation worsened, she took to the extreme step of committing suicide after poisoning her children. It’s a shame on the Bharatiyas! Can we Bharatiyas be so stone-hearted and cruel as to allow such a painful event to take place?
This was from his discourse (
11/8/2001), whereupon he made a major promise (see image with quotation). It seems he is completely ignorant of how things really are on his own doorstep – but then he is always surrounded by a large protective entourage and a court of yea-sayers who can’t tell him anything because they all want HIM to tell them good things!

He claims nothing he does is hidden. Where then are the accounts? How many mothers of fatherless children has he donated this large sum to? One can be sure it would be blazoned around by him in a discourse (he wouldn’t want to HIDE anything!). There are enough orphans from AIDS alone to bankrupt not only the entire Sathya Sai Baba mini-imperium, but probably the government as well. But maybe Sai baba considered that none of these countless thousands are “deserving”?? If they have no father OR mother, then they don’t qualify, it seems.

Considering the number of orphans in India, anyone can tell that Sai Baba’s boast must be hypocrisy? In 2002, the World Bank estimated that India is facing an accelerating threat from HIV which greatly impacts the social fabric, especially though the unprecedented number of orphans left with little or no adult protection.

It is quite extraordinary that is evidently in blissful ignorance of the constantly prevailing conditions of massive poverty, malnutrition and hunger in India. Right now the situation with rising prices, not only of food, makes things far worse than ever too”

Sathya Sai does not know the basic facts about his own country. Yet he entertains and blesses all his nation’s corrupt and nest-feathering politicians as soon as they pop up at his ashrams. According to UN statistics, there are 20 million child labourers in sweatshops and mines who get no education. Indian government extrapolations of this 1981 data place the current number of child labourers at between seventeen and twenty million (Human Rights Watch 1996, 122). This extrapolation seems highly unlikely as:
“The Official National Sample Survey of 1983 [of India] reports 17.4 million child labourers, while a study . . . sponsored by the Labour Ministry, concluded that the child-labour force was 44 million” (Weiner 1991, 20-21). UNICEF “cites figures ranging from seventy-five to ninety million child laborers under the age of fourteen” (Human Rights Watch 1996, 122).

Shirdi Sai Baba’s name hi-jacked by Sathya

Posted by robertpriddy on July 6, 2008

Barry Pittard has written: “Some readers may be interested in unraveling the mass of Sathya Sai Baba’s own confusions and contradictions (e.g., with regard to dates and details of characteristics of himself as compared to Shirdi Sai Baba), concerning his extraordinary pronouncements”.

The reference to the work of Brian Steel is most apt. This Australian scholar has done groundbreaking work in untangling knots of Sathya Sai Baba’s own making, and which have entangled countless believers in the midst of their unquestioning, as had occurred with many who have since left him to his endless weaving of bonds.

One prominent scholar of Shirdi Sai Baba was Marianne Warren, whose monograph is introduced here (Marianne Warren, Ph.D. Unravelling The Enigma. Shirdi Sai Baba – In The Light of Sufism. Sterling Paperbacks – New Delhi Revised edition 2004 – ISBN 81-207-2147-0.

Sathya Sai Baba’s foreknowledge of events?

Sathya Sai Baba Bedroom Murders – Part 1

Much has been written about the murders in Sathya Sai’s private apartments on June 6, 1993, involving cold-blooded police executions in his bedroom. Two of Sathya Sai Baba’s attendants, his valet Radhakrishnan and a young male servitor, were allegedly killed by five intruders in a knife struggle (though that the intruders killed anyone is contested from study of the official evidence by B. Premanand). Four intruders were trapped, and – after some hours and ashram and negotiations with the police – were gunned down inside Sai Baba’s rooms.

Sathya Sai Baba Bedroom Murders – Part 2

Cover-up by the Sathya Sai Central Trust authorities in not lodging any complaint against any of the involved. Suppression of the facts and false incident reports by the police was followed up by the ashram authorities who kept journalists away from the scene, since Prashanthi Nilayam is officially an independent township (Sathya Sai Baba’s personal fiefdom). Quashing of the CBI case through Sai Baba devotees in the government ( S.B. Chavan and Narasimha Rao) was effected surreptitiously when it was about to reach its conclusion.

Sathya Sai Bedroom Murders – Part 3

How did Sathya Sai deceive his followers about the 1993 murders? Any independent (i.e. non-devoted) reader of Sathya Sai’s Guru Poornima discourse (July 3 1993 see on p.6) in which he tried to calm devotees will see the transparency of the cover-up. The horrendous affair with armed police executing intruders took place right under his nose.

Sathya Sai Bedroom Murders – Part 4

Sathya Sai Baba’s self-declared knowledge and complicity. Some weeks after the murders and executions in Sathya Sai’s apartments, he gave a waffling, incomplete and most unsatisfactory account of events in his discourse on Guru Poornima early in July. He made clear he knew what was to happen to his close servitors and warned them not to go out of the ashram because of the consequences. This is complicity in murder according to any sensible system of law, not to mention his role in the subsequent cover-up and quashing of all legal investigations.

Sathya Sai Baba Bedroom Murders – Part 5

Close servitor V. K. Narasimhan’s doubts Referring to the unsolved 1993 murders and executions in Sai Baba’s bedroom, the famous newspaper journalist, writer and editor, V.K. Narasimhan – even though under powerful pressures to conform while dependent on the ashram and Sai Baba personally – said openly on two occasions where the writer was present, “What is the meaning now of the words ‘Why fear when I am here’? They are a travesty.”
