An Example of Sathya Sai Organization Deliberate Misrepresentation of Former Devotees’ Call For Proper Investigation

Jega Jegathesan is one of those – both key leaders and rank-and-file members of the Sathya Sai Organization – who know that many former devotees have integrity and are not ‘vicious’ and do not spread ‘calumny’, but are principled and honest. Jegathesan referred  to the testimonies of young men who claim in credible detail (to those who know the circumstances in the ashram well) as making “faeces on the ground”!  The investigations by many former followers is based on a huge body of documented facts and statements by several hundred persons and covered by organizations like UNESCO and the US State Department and in major press articles, and in investigative TV documentaries (see links here).

Former devotees have tried to reveal the known facts in a principled and painstaking way so as to reach the truth about what else has been covered up. Over 30 young men have stood forth bravely in public already with written and signed testimonies. Since secrecy, unaccountability, deception, untruth and propaganda is so widespread in the Sai movement altogether, some digging is often necessary to uncover the background of certain extraordinary events so that further investigation may lead to a proper solution for or against likely suppositions. I know how difficult it is to get information about the simplest of events from the Organization’s top leaders since I was frustrated by them for years when I was the leader of the relatively small Organization in Norway. Any investigatory or critical process is avoided like the plague by Sai officials and sworn believers, because Sai Baba simply does not allow it. Even deaths and suicides – known to have taken place – are never mentioned at any official meetings or get-togethers.

Datuk Jegathesan Jegathesan has long been one of those totally uncritical supporters of Sathya Sai Baba, as his series of hagiographic books demonstrates to the extreme. The frontspiece of one of them gives the jist of his admiration for the guru, despite his knowing full well that Malaysian students left Sai Baba in 1980 due to  the sexual abuses they said they were subjected to. Jegathesan and his wife had access to the infomation gathered by a prominent pro-Sai activist in Malaysia at the time, ex-follower Hariram Jayaram. He investigated this sexual abuse matter in considerable depth – speaking to the alleging victims and families and visiting India to meet students there to find out more – and he became convinced that their allegations were true, as he has informed me during a long period of correspondence we had. The Malaysian Sai movement was very disturbed by those incidents, which were widely known at the time. These facts have been denied and covered up by Datuk J. Jegathsan. He has a lot to answer for.
