Such a major mythological story has built up around Sathya Sai Baba that he manages to attract people to himself from far and wide, He wants to direct them toward God, divinity and no doubt would like to help them with their personal and spiritual problems. As soon as anyone who has rad all the amazing claims about him and what he says himself comes to believe he has in some way been involved in helping them, they are hooked.
However, most people’s real needs are never fulfilled. This one explain to oneself – according to his doctrine – by believing the problems, the need, the suffering or whatever are “tests” set by God (who he also claims to be in the fullest possible incarnation) and that these must be faced if we are to progress on the so-called spiritual path. Devotees even thank him for their problems… always hoping that they will nevertheless be mitigated and at worst – or at best – ended when they die (and enter the vague and indescribable state of ‘divine liberation’ or cloud-cuckoo land itself “. This is to surrender ones ego to Sathya Sai Baba, to eliminate one’s own will and mind in favour of becoming an instrument (‘puppet’) of whatever directs one… assuming this whatever is divinely purposeful. This is the total resignation to fate… throwing away one’s birthright along with a mind of ones own and giving up on the struggle for what is right, good ,fair, just and in the best interests of fellow humans.
Sai Baba is a needle stuck in a groove, ever reiterating the same sermons… “God is Love, all is God, everyone is God”. One is supposed to surrender to God… but that means to surrender to everything , resign yourself to be a straw in the wind (remembering Sai Baba’s words – not a blade of grass moved without the will of God’. Instead of meeting people openly, frankly and in observance of the reality of their lives, Sai Baba persuades everyone he can that their lives are but passing clouds, where all is unreal and deceptive, and all wrongs are our own fault. This is because he has no power other than what his followers, their work, energy and money give him in India in the temporal world.
As Professor Dale Beyerstein has said of him: ” … ascribing authority to him and having faith in him, we’ll come to interpret everything as depending on him, slowly we’ll modify our life basing on what he says, and so it will seem to us that ‘God has intervened in our life’. He is not a cosmic divine incarnation, but an Indian, local, material, terrestrial phenomenon, like many before and after him. He’s an indian who has a high opinion of his country, and tries with not so much success to promote its supremacy in some field. Sai Baba proposes generic spiritual recipes (taken from the many, thousands years old sacred scriptures and from some personal idea) for today world’s problems, even the most serious ones. These solutions are totally useless and ineffective; instead of urging on the practical solution of world’s problems, SB with his “recipes” could create false hopings in those who trust him, and also laxity (‘…he will take care of everything, he that is God…’)“.
Glen Meloy was a long-standing devotee who freed himself from Sathya Sai Baba’s indoctrination when he was told by young men he knew of their being sexually abused by Sathya Sai Baba. He came to much the same conclusion as Beyerstein did and so many others have too, as follows…
For quite some time now, I have felt the true freedom of thought, word and deed ever since I disconnected from the mind controlling cult led by the fraud in Puttaparthi who dares to call himself the God of the Gods.
As for spiritual enlightenment, that comes in many ways………. The greatest attainment for myself personally was when I finally took back the consciousness that I willingly gave away in the mistaken belief that God resides on a higher pedestal and functions as an external power to all of us mortals.
Nothing could be further from the truth…….. the mistaken belief made by most of the world is that we are taught to literally interpret and practice the various spiritual writings of the ages.
This has, like lemmings, led many of us to seek the love and to give the control of our lives to those who claim to be more highly evolved than the rest of us. It is a grand plan of deception that has been practiced for millenniums and perpetuates the myth that we must always seek approval for our thoughts, words and deeds from a source of power outside of ourselves.” Glen Meloy
For my part (Robert Priddy), this shows that any idea of God is actually superfluous… even the idea that God is within us, or God is everywhere, in everything or IS everything. This is an entirely circular form of thinking which defeats itself once it comers full circle, as I have demonstrated here.
