Sai Baba claims embarrass officials – who cover them up

Posted by robertpriddy on September 29, 2009

The Sathya Sai Baba official website [www.sathyasaiorg] has recently been weeded of some of the main propaganda that it formerly contained. Among what were long considered the very most important items were four ‘key’ discourses given by Sai Baba where he makes his mega-claims about himself. For decades these have been seen by his officials and followers as the avatar’s most impelling announcements.

However, the Sai authorities have evidently gradually realised that the sheer megalomania of those claims are not acceptable to the world public, for the exceed what any reasonable non-indoctrinated person can believe. Therefore they have been brushed under the carpet, though all followers doubtless still believe in them, otherwise they would have to deny the truth of his entire avataric mission. Here is a facsimile of the main body of the official web page – removed from http://www.sathyasai.org/discour/content.htm (but still archived here)

International Sai Organization
Four important discourses by Sri Sathya Sai Baba:
Shiva Shakthi
(6 July 1963). Swami heals himself from an 8-day stroke and announces his third incarnation as Prema Sai eight years after he leaves this body.

The revelation (17 May 1968). The last part of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s discourse at the “World Conference of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organizations” in Bombay, 17 May 1968. Sai Baba states plainly and directly that he has come as an incarnation of God to restore righteousness (dharma).

Forty-Third birthday discourse (23 November 1968). Swami speaks about His being the Avatar and proclaims his mission on earth: the establishment of righteousness.

Who is Sai? (9 June 1974). Sai Baba talks about God, the Religion of Love, and His Avatar-hood. He explains why he materializes rings, etc., and gives them to people, and he explains what “Sai Baba” means.

It may well be said that the work of those determined that the full facts about Sathya Sai Baba – not just the positive ones – should be known [and including the massive and absurd claims he has made] is the cause of the great caution and increased censorship and cover-up by all officials of his various institutions!

Dr. G. Venkataraman, propagandist in the limelight

Posted by robertpriddy on September 28, 2009

Presentation of new free car to G. Venkataraman

Dr. G. Venkataraman, a physicist, formerly employed in India’s nuclear bomb programme community, became a devotee of Sathya Sai Baba when he suffered major depression after the loss of his son. Being one of the few somewhat notable scientists in the following, he was duly made Vice-Chancellor of Sai Baba’s university at Puttaparthi. He is now on the central body ruling Sai matter, the Prashanthi Council, and is 2nd-in-command of the International Sathya Sai Organization. As head of Sai Global Harmony which broadcasts Sai propaganda en masse via WorldSpace International Satellite Radio Service, 24/7 to a number of countries. The agenda of this multi-billion dollar mini-empire involves penetration of the world and infiltrations of all official bodies, governments, UN organizations and so on. The entire set-up has virtually all of the distinguishing features of a clandestinely-managed religious cult. They exploit the liberal world’s tolerance under freedom of religion legislation, though they operate in a completely top-down, no feedback, autocratic and censoring cult.

Dr Venkataraman is tantamount to being Sathya Sai Baba’s ‘minister of propaganda’. All but the very topmost officials of the Sathya Sai Organization are permitted to comment on any issues concerning Sathya Sai Baba and his Organization. G. Venkataraman is such a top official, who nonetheless writes as little as possible about the world-wide controversy about his Lord and Master (who he considers to be the actual Creator of the Entire Universe – and he is supposed to be a scientific physicist!) He has even promoted Sathya Sai Baba’s blessings and endorsement visits to the former dictator of Uganda Idi Amin, who reportedly wept with tears of devotion at Sai Baba’s feet.

Venkataraman has made much of a civil lawsuit against the directors of the Sathya Sai Society of America in the USA because it was eventually dismissed by the plaintiff. This is taken as a victory exonerating Sathya Sai Baba, while in fact it was a botched litigation where the judge of the Orange County Court did not allow Sathya Sai Baba to be sued from the USA, requiring it be done in India. Further, there was no responsible, registered Sathya Sai Organization in the USA, but only a Society with a charitable status, run as a Sai Baba bookshop, so the case became non-viable with no one to prosecute. This did not stop Venkataraman and his supporter and befriender, Gerald Joe Moreno, making a mountain of victory out of a molehill of a self-dismissed lawsuit! Adding insult to injury, Venkataraman virtually crowed over this, entirely ignoring that the plaintiff – Alaya Rahm – is but one of many young men throughout the world who accuse Sathya Sai Baba of sexually molesting them. Venkataraman never shows the slightest compassion or willingness to confront facts… he claims he has never found a student who says he was abused. However, no one in their right senses while still in India – where students have been murdered in cold blood in Sai Baba’s bedroom – would trust such information to this totally blind and uncaring devotee of Sai Baba as Lord of the Cosmos that they had been sexually violated by him…for the consequences could well be too terrible to contemplate. Venkataraman behaved as if a dissenter is a figure for derision, as does his on-line supporter Gerald Joe Moreno without any compunction or moral values. (Venkataraman has never distanced himself in any way from Moreno, which speaks volumes about his attitude. In his official position he could almost effortlessly silence this totally ant-spiritual cyber terrorist!)

The article ‘The Sathya Sai Organization’s Deception and Propaganda Exposed’ was co-authored by Robert Priddy and Barry Pittard. It responds to Dr G. Venkataraman attempts to whitewash Sathya Sai Baba by techniques of decontextualisation, misrepresentation and general opinionated pseudo-spiritual claims.

Sai Baba says he is only what anyone imagines him to be!

Posted by robertpriddy on September 27, 2009

This claim is both absurd and cunning - it means no one can ever see Sai Baba, only themselves, so he would protects himself against all changes of criminality

This claim is both absurd and cunning - it claims that no one can ever see Sai Baba, only themselves, and thus he would try to protect himself against all charges of deception, impurity, criminality...

The Sexual Molestation and other abuse allegations: Former follower John Bright, in his highly credible but very shocking account on the Internet of how Sai Baba molested him sexually, refers to the English self-styled ‘psychic medium’ Craig Parker-Hamilton, whose website allowed him to discuss this (but no longer, alas), saying:-
“Before I go I want to thank you Craig for being open enough to allow this open debate despite your beliefs in Sai Baba’s authenticity. However, there are two things that you mentioned that I want to address. You said that if a person sees Sai Baba as a molester then Sai Baba will become a molester and if we see him as God he will become God. I think I see where you are going with that. There is a philosophy that mind is the builder and that perception and belief create reality; while I believe there is truth in this I also believe that it gets twisted. For example: I may choose not to believe that the sun will rise tomorrow and this belief may prevent me from accepting that the sun will rise tomorrow but my belief will not prevent the objective fact that the sun will rise tomorrow. In a similar way my personal belief that Sai Baba is or is not a molester will in no way change the objective reality. Sai Baba either is or is not a child molester; my personal belief doesn’t change the objective truth about Sai Baba only my acceptance or rejection of it.”

Craig Hamilton-Parker’s deluded view can also be said to take away all responsibility from Sai Baba for what and who he is, and placing it on each person who relates to him – depending on how they happen to experience him at any time. This is a confused idea of Baba, common among various less intelligent would-be ‘spiritual teachers’. Sai Baba has said that he merely ‘reflects, resounds, responds’ to the attitudes and expectations of devotees, if we think of him as God he will become that in our minds and if we think of him as a molester, he becomes that in our minds. But he does not himself independently become any of the many or even opposite things various devotees have in their minds. He exists independently of their minds (indeed, of all mind, he claims) and moreover, has a human form and body. He acts in the world like anyone else, falls on his soap and gets a hairline fracture of the hip, fell flat at darshan when a devotee held around his feet and so on.

Many extremely serious and most credibly described allegations have been made by persons known to have long been very close to him (see overview of many of them here). The evidence has becoming so crushing that anyone who goes into it fully even with a half-open mind and heart will be convinced. This means that one must free oneself from the mistaken and untestable belief that Sai Baba is God Almighty in Person, a belief that tends to bolster the ego of the believer who feels ‘chosen’ and therefore much better a person the he or she most likely actually is.

Very close devotees have broken with Sai Baba, including David Bailey and two who were consistently sexually abused, Conny Larsson of Sweden and the Indian Dr. Naresh Bhatia. Bhatia was well known to hundreds of devotees through his lectures at the ashram. He openly informed the Daily Telegraph journalist, Mick Brown, of his long-standing homosexual relations with Sai Baba, and of how the Baba has misused very many pupils, including a boy in the 7th grade. Dr. Bhatia was banned from the ashram on trumped-up charges and was threatened by thugs in his residence there, so he had to flee to Delhi. His subsequent silence is eloquent of the methods employed by the ashram against persons over whom they can exert power.

I knew two young men from different Scandinavian countries (and who did not know each other) who were, on quite separate occasions, shocked when Sai Baba kissed them voluptuously on the mouth when alone with him inside the private interview room. One of these young men, who eventually spoke out, had become extremely disturbed as the intimacies became more and more intrusive interview after interview. I knew several young Scandinavian men who were given more long private interviews (behind firmly closed doors) than anyone else and were provided with rings, bracelets and so forth from Sai Baba. These all left Sai Baba within months or years of these attentions. In view of the awe and admiration with which this would-be God Almighty is held (admiration which is also extended by many to his favourites) it becomes very hard indeed to believe that they could be making it up.

Another good friend, Tor Fotland visited Sai Baba several times with his wife Felicia. Upon hearing about the allegations, he told my wife and I that he had known an Italian devotee who had told him that Sai Baba had handled his genitals. I also met a lady who had been a Sai follower for decades, whose friends had brought their son to Sai Baba at least before the early 1980s and who had left for good in shock and disgust when Baba had taken down the boys’ trousers in private and massaged his genitals with oil. I had discounted this at the time as being some kind of spiritual treatment. Only in view of subsequent accounts, of which there are too many for comfort, do these other incidents appear in a different light. Besides this, another friend who I met through the Sai Baba centre in Oslo, who visited the ashram twice and undoubtedly experienced many extraordinary leelas from Sai Baba through several years, became aware of the homosexual allegations through the Internet. After considerable soul-searching, he denounced Sai Baba and told that he had been troubled by Baba who appeared in his dreams and made sexual advances to him… something for which he had never had any inclination or slightest wish. Subsequently, I am in contact with another young man from USA who my wife and I knew well and had a very honest and open-minded relationship with during one of our long stays in India. He had travelled with Dr. and Mrs. Hislop and the Cowans and was present when Mr. Cowan was supposedly revived from death by Sai Baba (which he said he knew was NOT true). This person, Mark Roche, told the world on a BBC interview how he had virtually been forced into oral sex with Sai Baba back in the 1970s, when he had a long series of eleven interviews.

I should add that I have never received any kind of homosexual suggestion in my meetings with Sai Baba, nor in any of the several hundred dreams I have recorded in which he has figured prominently. Once he put his lips to my mouth, at which I felt disgust, but he instead seemed to such out of my spine something which was causing the spinal problems I suffered from since the age of 40-odd. It was made clear in the dream that it was not a kiss even, but some kind of therapy. Strangely, some years later I was with Sai leaders after a conference in Denmark when I told of this and the wife of the leader in Austria said she had experienced EXACTLY the same. She too had spinal problems after falling down a flight of stairs. I can’t explain this other than by the machinations of unconscious wish fulfillment of hoping to be cured, but I can say that there was no improvement in either of our conditions afterwards. (I was born with spina bifida okulta).

Note: The cyber terrorist Gerald Moreno, who is enraged because several of us have pointed out that he was actually subject to an illegal molestation of a preliminary sexual nature, has ridiculously written an entire blog about this dream (as reported in my book ‘Source of the Dream’). In this puerile tit-for-tat attack he tries in vain to get back at me with insidious suggestions. The flimsiness of his entire project is exemplified well by this mud-throwing, the tactics of an under-achiever who is driven by irrational forces.

Gerald Moreno’s wildest attack so far?

Posted by robertpriddy on September 26, 2009

For several years, Moreno wrote a mass of untruths and attacks about dozens of those who left Sathya Sai Baba because of the sex revelations. His main target at first was Sanjay Dadlani about whom he wrote the most disgusting things, sexual allegations of all kinds – not least naming him a proved pervert – and made very disgusting pictures using Dadlani’s face on a naked overweight woman and as a pig etc. He put up many defamatory web pages and several blogs entries attacking Dadlani. The distorted images Moreno made can be seen here (Equalizer is none other than Gerald Moreno, as he eventually had to admit). including entering Dadlani’s name and false information on numerous pornography sites! (see this). That blog expressed tremendous frustrated rage, but since Dadlani has withdrawn into his professional work and so he has another top target, guess who.

Increasingly he has directed his worst efforts against the two most important critics of Sai Baba, Robert Priddy and Barry Pittard. Moreno’s writings against Robert Priddy are amazing in the degree of madcap hate and name-calling… and what I find are perversions of the facts at every turn [to get this, you have got to compare what Moreno writes with what Priddy actually writes on his own web pages and blogs]

Moreno has often accused me of ‘blathering’, ‘frothing at the mouth’ and many other such irrelevant actions. There is no evidence that I do any such thing, and I do not. However, what is Moreno doing here:-The transparent attempt to invalidate in advance any clarifications I might give speaks for itself how deeply Moreno tried to avoid any facts penetrating to himself or his clientele. However, in every case my wife was present at what are called ‘private interviews’ with Sai Baba, I was never alone with him anywhere for a second. His attempt to twist facts by false interpretation fell flat here as usual. It is bizarre in the extreme, since he implies that one may implicate Sai Baba as a sexual abuser (of me)!  Further, I was 50 years old at the first interview (1986), and it is reported widely that Sai Baba only likes young men… no person ever alleged sexual abuse when they were over 35 years of age.

As my entire output shows, I was never involved in anything remotely like the interview Moreno describes that he had so I am entirely free of the perceptions that Moreno in the intensity of his rigid denial insists I must have! Moreno’s wrote so guardedly about the oiling experience which I asked him to describe that he gives a tangible impression of embarrassment to tell just how Sai Baba reached his lower stomach with a handful of oil… or any other details.

He was definitely still confused about it all long, long after when he wrote that he believed Sai Baba to be a sexual abuser, “mingling the miraculous with the mundane” in some accounts. And, amusingly to most no doubt, he calls me “sexually twisted”, while he was defending on the www tooth and nail a person who he for years saw as a ‘partly miraculous’ sexual abuser!

Gerald Moreno wrote :-

“Referenced from: http://exbaba.com/witnesses/gerson.html Greg Gerson says, “During one interview, which occurred just before I was scheduled to fly home to America, while we were alone, Sai Baba had me pull down my pants. He then “materialized” oil and pulled down my underwear and applied the oil on my lower abdomen below my navel and above my penis. He did not touch me sexually or ask me to do anything to him.” (see here)

Basava Premanand replied: It is only after the person reacts passively to the request of pulling down his pants that SSB himself pulls down the underwear when he wants physical contact with the genitals, then massaging below navel up to the penis and watching the facial changes then only SSB moves to next and further manipulations sexually. This genital area oiling is not mentioned in any of the medical or religious texts from India. Oiling is not done in one part of the body but all over the body and massaging every part in Ayurveda, The massaging is done not only by hands but also by legs. This is believed as a rejuvenating therapy.

The very fact that Greg Gerson allowed SSB to make him pull down his underwear only indicates how much faith he then had on SSB as god on earth. David Paul states:”I was taken into the back room and subjected to one of the so called oilings that have so often been spoken of and I am not sure even today where I stand on that particular subject” This clearly refutes GM’s claim that Paul also stated “that what happened to him was not sexual abuse”. Here he is again attempting to deceive through inaccurate and tendentious presentation of the documented facts.

I know from a former friend, Michael Oliver, that Moreno had the same admiration for Sai Baba and therefore no doubt had his pants taken down, one way or another! The cardinal fact – that Moreno wishes in vain to deny – is that Sathya Sai Baba used oil on Gerald Moreno’s lower stomach (which is ‘in the genital region’) and this is classified as sexual molestation when carried out by other than a registered doctor, which Sai Baba definitively is not. It makes no difference in law whether the subject of the act experienced it as pleasant or otherwise! The act of genital oiling is known to the pathology of sexual deviation as a form of “grooming’ for possible sexual intercourse. Whether the perpetrator proceeds or not usually depends on how well it is received.

Finally, another lie and blustering threats by Moreno to conclude:-

I have never made a single legal threat against Gerald Moreno as he well knows. He has never received a letter from my lawyers. I have occasionally made a general warning about infringement of my copyright. Since Moreno is raring to go to court, let him sue me. My legal advisors see not a single point in which I am in jeopardy. And note the fantasy in Moreno's anal threat above.

I have never made a single legal threat against Gerald Moreno as he well knows. He has never received a letter from my lawyers.I have occasionally made a general warning about infringement of my copyright. Since Moreno is raring to go to court, let him sue me. My legal advisers see not a single point in which I am in jeopardy. I do know, however, that lawyers have been contacted by other offended parties to examine the options concerning Moreno. Note the vulgar fantasy in Moreno's anal threat above!

Further relevant instance of cover-up of genital nature of oiling, later admitted:
That I suggested that Moreno may not be telling the whole story due to embarrassment is not at all far-fetched nor in the least ‘perverted’ on my part as he so wildly protests! If that were so, then every charge of sexual molestation presented by anyone in any court, by Moreno’s standard, would be ‘perverted’! One case which illumines this is that of the British-Canadian author Paul William Roberts, who was clearly too embarrassed about what happened to him in a Sai Baba private interview to describe it for what it was. Roberts described in his book how he was oiled when in his early twenties ”on the chest”. (See last page but one of ‘Empire of the Soul’ Chapter 3 (p. 37 in original Canadian edition, 1994. US edition 1996) which is paraphrased and also directly quoted here:

Interview. P.W.Roberts feels Sai Baba’s love. B. tells him all about his life and gives a breakdown of his personality. Then B. circles his hand and “a white oily substance” appears “in his palm”. “Somehow, I knew what he wanted to do, so I lifted my shirt and let him rub this substance into my chest. I kept thanking him profusely.” The next few days are spent in a daze of happiness and are a blur to PWR.

Subsequent to this published account, however, this confirmed devotee of Sathya Sai Baba, Paul William Roberts circulated an e-mail to a number of devotees telling them that this was actually a full scale genital oiling! He backed this up in another e-mail in July 2004, and confirmed having written it and that it can be circulated to other devotees. These e-mails can be produced as required by any court). A quotation from that e-mail follows:-
”My experience does in fact include genital contact. Baba materialized some kind of white ointment and rubbed in onto my perineum. It was done in a very maternal manner. He looked away while he was doing it and made no actual contact with my penis or scrotum. It was not remotely sexual and reminded me of a nurse performing a routine procedure.”

(Note: the ‘perineum’ is the sensitive area between the genitals and the anus!). Seeing that a widely-respected journalist and author like P.W. Roberts completely misrepresented the nature of the oiling by Sai Baba in his book and let this stand for many years uncorrected (as it remains today), yet later confirmed in his widely-circulated e-mail to devotees how he had in fact covered up the embarrassing fact, you may imagine how difficult many find telling the true state of affairs. As to Roberts’ subjective belief about his not having been subjected to any sexual act, it is of similar kind to Moreno’s in his writing of his ‘not having a clue’.

Sathya Sai Baba’s unforgiving talk of forgiveness

Posted by robertpriddy on September 25, 2009

“We should help even those who have harmed us. This is the vow of Sai. No matter if some people criticise or ridicule Me, I will always look at them with kindness.” (Sanathana Sarathi June 2002, p. 166).
“There are many who are hostile towards Me. Many ridicule or criticise Me.” (ibid, p. 168.)

Note that the ‘Me’ in the above is always with a big ‘M’, as per usual! As in ‘Me and Mine’! He infamously also called those many  young men who testify that he sexually abused them ‘demons’ and claimed (falsely and without a word of evidence) they were doing it for money! The context makes the clear implication that critics are hurting him, even though he later says, “none of it will reach me”.
However, much of it
certainly did get right to him, rousing him into making awful threats against his detractors in his angry discourse on Christmas Day, 2000. He called his accusers Judases and demons! (Sathya Sai Baba actually believed in demons, as well as literally in 14-feet high men like Rama, as he told Hislop!). At the same time, Sathya Sai Baba clearly took pleasure in pointing out how much his critics will suffer, in this instance for example, by saying “Hurting someone who has helped you will result in losing your eyesight”.

Such unforgiving talk from this self-promoting ‘God the Father’ on the birthday of the all-forgiving Jesus Christ! Was this conscious insult to Christians or mere ignorance of their creed? Forgiveness is not a concept that finds much expression, if any, in the traditional Indian spiritual value system, as Sathya Sai Baba exemplifies.

Many of us look on those of our detractors who are honest and decent – though badly deluded –  with kindness, sympathy etc., there is really nothing so amazingly unique about this. Many who are fully self-indoctrinated cannot even help their bad feelings, and we may pity them. But Sathya Sai Baba’s words about his kindness are advice to practise a kind of deception, for he also said: “You cannot always oblige, but you can always speak obligingly”.

End of the Sathya Sai Baba Dream

Posted by robertpriddy on September 24, 2009

In 2000 I resigned as National Contact person of the Sathya Sai Organization in Norway after 18 years fulfilling that role. This was no easy decision, since I did not believe that the allegations of sexual abuse could be true, even though I knew that Sathya Sai Baba was deeply involved in the massive cover-up of murders in his own bedroom, and hence an accomplice to the fact.

Having refused to read David Bailey’s account or any of the flood of allegations thereafter for months, I finally felt I must read the sexual allegation testimony.  It took me about another six months of intensive investigation – contacting all the sources I could – before I was forced to arrive at a complete conviction that most of the allegations were both true and accurate. Subsequently I began to look carefully into all aspects of Sathya Sai Baba from the viewpoint of critical questioning and found, to my dismay, deceit after deceit and evidence of a major campaign of deception by him and all those close around him. This resulted in many web pages, which the award-winning rationalist, Basava Premanand, asked permission to publish. The end result was:-

Front and rear covers of the book, which corrected the over-zealous interpretations and shortcomings of my popular pro-Sai book as blessed by him, 'Source of the Drea,m

Front and rear covers of the book, which corrected the over-zealous interpretations and shortcomings of my popular pro-Sai book as blessed by him, 'Source of the Dream

My book ‘The End of the Dream’ is the sequel to my book ‘Source of the Dream’. Sathya Sai Baba said in my last private interview with him (in 1994 at Trayee Brindavan), “Write, write!” and “What you are doing is right!”. Ironically enough, he did not specify what to write!. I am willing to take an oath that all I state in ‘The End of the Dream’ and have written thereafter is as accurate and true as I can express it clearly. I carefully recorded daily events, discussions and lectures while I was at the ashrams (altogether about 13 full months of diary entries). Editor V.K. Narasimhan’s revelations about Sathya Sai Baba (VKN from Robert Priddy notebooks covering all visits from 1984 to 1998)
Numerous scans of these are available here, as well as contents of some of the numerous letters I received from V.K. Narasimhan between my visits Not least due to my own many written contributions praising Sai Baba, my conscience insisted that I must perform the heavy but important public duty of correcting the overblown, propagandistic image of Sai Baba that had taken me in and which is still sustained by his many followers. These are invariably based on his own exaggerations and untruthful claims. Many devotees actually regard everything that happens as being ‘all a part of the avatar’s plan’, and some claim that his critics are ‘his instruments’ for weeding out the unworthy who do not have enough faith! That is how far faith can create self-deception and distort all sense and reason and underpins monolithic churches, guru cults and other authoritarian or totalitarian institutions. Sai Baba says everything that happens is a gift from God, so followers will make any kind of distorted sense of that! This means that any such god must all too often be totally merciless, for a start.

Dr. H. Narasimhaiah + video clip

Posted by robertpriddy on September 23, 2009

Dr. H. Narasimhaiah  (1920-2005)  was a physicist, eminent educator, Gandhian freedom fighter and rationalist from Bangalore, popularly known as HN. He taught from 1946 till 1957 when he proceeded to Columbus, Ohio to get his PhD degree in nuclear physics from Ohio State University (1960). During 1961-72 he led National College, Basavanagudi, Bangalore, as its principal. during 1967-68, as a Fullbright Scholar, Dr. Narasimhaiah taught as a Visiting Professor at Southern Illinois University. In l962, he founded the Bangalore Science Forum, which conducts a weekly series of public lectures on science topics.

As the Vice-Chancellor of the Bangalore University from 1973-77, he introduced psychology, social work, drama, music and dance as subjects. He went on to serve the State Legislative Assembly; and in 1984, received the Padma Bhushan from the Indian Government. He challenged Sathya Sai Baba to demonstrate a miracle so it could be scientifically examined, but Sai Baba refused the challenge. At the time of his death in January 31, 2005, Dr. Narasimhaiah was the President of the National Education Society.

“Humanism feels that it is better to be a mortal free man than an immortal slave. Humanism examines everything not in the darkness of fear but in the light of reason.”

Archbishop of Canterbury and Sathya Sai Baba

Posted by robertpriddy on September 22, 2009

Question: what is the connection between the Archbishop of Canterbury and Sathya Sai Baba?
Answer: None whatever (not least since
neither has ever so much as mentioned the other).
In short, another world-wide religious institution which totally ignores the self-professed God Incarnate and unifier and Saviour of Mankind under the banner of Hindu Sanathana dharma (proclaimed by the Baba as the original and true essence of all religions).

ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY

ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY

The archbishop claims to ‘kind of’ know God, the other to be God and know everything. A bad mix of opinions! Of course, faith in the existence of God is not easy to defend against any kind of rational questions or objective observation. So believers [those who are not mentally incapable] invariably end up proclaiming what they do not – and can not – know! Indeed, many Sai devotees proudly flaunt their humility with, “What can our limited minds understand” [i.e. they resign them to an inevitable victory of continued ignorance from the outset!]

The BBC journalist and presenter John Humphries – in Heart and Soul on BBC World Service – asked the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, if he believes there is a God or knows there is a God? The archbishop was cautious in his claims of knowledge, at first, but then gets caught up in inconsistency, as in the following interview:-

Williams: “I don’t know that there is a God or a God in the simple sense that I can tick that off as an item I am familiar with. Believing is a matter of being committed to the reality of God. The knowledge that comes, that grows if you like through a relationship I believe, I commit myself I accept what God gives me – I try to accept what God gives me – grow in that relationship. And you grow in a kind of certainty or anchorage in the belief. Knowledge? Well, of a certain kind, yes.

What is this ‘certain’ kind of ‘knowledge’ where one admits one doesn’t know? Perhaps he should take a lesson in certain knowledge from Sathya Sai Baba who claims he knows it all since he IS God. Somehow I can’t see the honest Rowan Williams on his knees before Sathya Sai Baba in his wheelchair, any more than I can see – as some Sai devotees have insisted he has said – that Sai Baba will one day walk with the Pope through the streets of Rome! Pope Benedict will not be benevolently disposed towards accepting a higher representative of God on earth, for he firmly labels all who do not believe in Jesus to be heretics! And persistent heretics end up in hell, in which Pope Benedict firmly believes!

Ex Indian P.M. A.B. Vajpayee’s deceits and cover-ups

Posted by robertpriddy on September 21, 2009

A.B. Vajpayee is discredited, for he signed a widely-published document defending Sathya Sai Baba against the many accusations of sexual abuse from former followers around the world without having made the slightest investigation of the matter or presented a shred of evidence. This has been proved by India’s foremost skeptic, Basava Premanand whose challenge to the government under the freedom of information act was unanswerable by the authorities (see link at foot of blog). Sai Baba devotee A.B. Vajpayee, along with his political cronies – two Sai Baba devotees, retired Supreme Court Chief Justices – levelled baseless and unprovable smears against dissident ex-followers of Sathya Sai Baba.

Sai Baba group claims miracles – seeks donations

Posted by robertpriddy on September 20, 2009

The New York statues with balloons <span style=

The latest super-naive followers of the two Sai Baba’s in Queens, New York – also worshippers of various Indian deities besides – are claiming (with a video) that Sai Baba performed miracles at their temple by moving helium balloons about so that they “worshipped his feet”. The alleged ‘miracle’ (leela) is accepted totally uncritically is simply only a result of known physical causes of such movement. Those who believe Sathya Sai Baba is the One Omnipotent Godhead no doubt think it is amazing that God should not have better things to do to prove his existence than to blow balloons around.

It is noteworthy that they ask for donations on the same site where they promote this supposed “Sai miracle”! This is strictly forbidden by Sathya Sai Baba in many discourses (though he asks for them himself both in public appeals in his journal and in private, including from me!  The Queens New York temple people evidently ignore his advice they in their eagerness (greed?) to generate cash.  It seems people kick in money freely when they see a miracle? This is typical of temples and institutions that prey on the unwitting in the name of Sathya Sai Baba… whose journal has exposed any number of such scam organizations.

Balloons thought to be  “sharing the excitement of this historic occasion” (the ‘historic’ part being an installation ceremony for Baba’s statues)
This classifies as ‘lunatic fringe thinking’ if anything does. The male leader who recounted and explained the miracle said that they had asked Sathya Sai Baba if this was his doing and “he sanctioned their wish”. He said. O.K. You want to witness” and then it happened again at the next occasion. (Note: Sai Baba claims he says ‘yes’ to everything – and he nearly always does when asked if it was one of his miracles or whether he came in a dream or other such fanciful notions. Besides it had been very difficult to ask him anything for some years, so one wonders if this is not another of those ‘asking in prayer’ and interpreting the answer from some doubtful gesture, or even subjective ‘channelling’, as is very common in the Sai movement).

The temple staff said they had taped balloons to the ceiling, and next morning they were all on the ground. Why one should additionally need to tape a helium balloon to the ceiling he does not mention. Well, in fact, a balloon with helium can sink down if it is made of latex, which is porous to helium. Over a period of time from 6-12 hours or so depending on the thickness of the balloon skin, the helium seeps out and the balloons start to come down, still looking almost the same size. This is not so with mylar balloons, which experienced sales people say can remain inflated for up to a week on average, depending also on the thickness of the balloon skin. Tape can easily drop off, especially if there were any air currents in the room, which can arise from very many causes.

The natural explanations of balloons moving in an enclosed space include air currents – such as convection from heaters, currents from air conditioning, currents from candle flames, incense and burning arati camphor (all no doubt used in this temple), electrostatic effects like attraction (one only has to rub a balloon against a synthetic rug, jersey or one’s own hair to see the effects this can produce). Static electricity is often generated in places where a number of people spend time and can result in peculiar effects.  The pictures and statues are most likely in a place where air currents arrive. Then, Lo and Behold! We have a Miracle? The Indian gent explains that his guru told him that such miracles are needed to make people who are not entirely sure to believe and surrender to God!  That balloons might convince anyone to surrender to the feet of Sai Baba is highly unlikely!

Rewriting events with slant – Sathya Sai Baba officialdom

Posted by robertpriddy on September 18, 2009

The Akhanda Bhajans continued through the night and the next morning, Bhagawan arrived in Sai Kulwant Hall at 6.20 a.m. After going around the hall granting Darshan to everyone, He took His seat on the dais. Around 6.45 a.m or so, one could sense that something was in the offing as Bhagawan was showing signs of physical pain and restlessness – indications that there may be ‘Lingodbhavam’. The pace of the Bhajans kept increasing every minute in anticipation, but it was not until 8.25 a.m. that a beautiful golden lingam emerged from Bhagawan’s mouth. Then out of immense love and compassion, He moved amidst devotees holding the lingam so that everyone could have a close glimpse of it. from http://srisathyasai.org.in/Pages/Events/shivaratri_06_report.htm

goldlinga06Who can say that he moved among devotees “out of immense love and compassion”? It cannot be seen on his face, which is expressionless – even stony – these days most of the time. This eulogy is merely ‘politically correct Prashanthi speak’, mimicking his own constant self-promotion as ‘infinitely loving and compassionate’.  Where was his compassion when four of his devotees were shot down in cold-blood by police in his bedroom in 1993 while he stood by and indirectly conferred with the police through his younger brother?

Moreover, he did not himself ‘move among the crowds’, he was pushed in the invalid chair which this “omnipotent God”  always has to use nowadays. The so-called ‘lingodbhava‘ has since 1990 been an utter farce where the use of a large towel which he raises to his face time and again is the key to this less than perfected magician’s trick. Nowhere is this more evident than on the 2004 BBC documentary filmed close-up.

Click for video clip to see how a 'magician produces lingam objects from his mouth more clearly than Sai Baba!

The neutral BBC team were invited by the ashram authorities to make what they expected to be a promotion film about this self-style God Incarnate, but they denied BBC further access as soon as they asked a critical question! This naturally set the journalists searching for answers elsewhere and they eventually had to present him as a sex abusing fraud producing powerful evidence on how his many alleged crimes are covered-up by aggressive Indian politician devotees and not least the International Chairman of the Sathya Sai Organization. D. Michael Goldstein, who was interviewed and expressed strong denial and also spoke of himself as a ‘consummate professional’ doctor who said he can see on a boy’s face where there has ever been any sexual abuse! A consummate ignoramus and deceiver is more like it!

Sathya Sai saw Hanuman as a real figure

Posted by robertpriddy on September 17, 2009

Hanuman, a great devotee of the mythical Rama, was a ‘monkey man’ who supposedly jumped dozens of miles – and also carried a whole mountain so a healing herb could be picked from it. And he makes very clear that this is no myth for Sai Baba. hanuman

HanumanJumper

Sathya Sai saw Hanuman as a real figure who did what was claimed in the Ramayana! Hanuman, presented as almost the greatest devotee of the mythical King Rama, was a ‘monkey man’ who supposedly jumped dozens of miles – and also carried a whole mountain so a healing herb could be picked from it. And he made very clear that this is no myth for Sai Baba, who claims he was Rama once, and Hanuman his trusted servant!

HanumanStatuePuttaparthiAmong the extremely tall and massive garish statues at the Hillview Stadium, Puttaparthi, there is a monster ‘Indo-kitsch’ representation of Hanuman holding a mountain aloft. The money for all these useless artefacts came from donations intended to help the poor, needy, analphabets, the diseased, ill and suffering peoples and for many world visitors these are white elephants which typify the usual Indian extravagance and waste among such enormous poverty and suffering.

That Hanuman is described variously as a ‘monkey’ or a ‘monkey-man’ and is pictured with a monkey face and a tail makes this story unbelievable to anyone with a modicum of knowledge of paleontology. More likely the myth is based on the perception of them by Arian Hindus who came from the North and met with the indigenous Dravidians who were (and still are) darker and who were free and physically agile as ‘noble savages’ who lived closer to the wild (as of course do do monkeys).

Vishnu come to save the world, as Sai Baba?

For the student boys who sleep in his bedroom, it must be most awesome to be subjected to what many claim he does - the very Lord and Creator of the Universe taking his pleasure with them on the serpent headed bed he had, but which was destroyed in the murders in his bedroom?

vishnuSai

The claims made by Sathya Sai Baba as seen in the scan (above right)  amounts to the claim that there is no distinction between himself and the greatest divine incarnations of Hindu mythical scripture. Their tasks are all the same, saving humanity – though the means used and physical incarnations differ.

His constantly repeated belief in the literal truth of myths with which the Ramayana and the Mahabharata are packed – and his usurpation of the identity of all the great figures in those myths – Vishnu, Rama, Krishna, [as well as claiming to have been Jesus’ Father, Kabir and Shirdi Sai Baba] will simply never wash with enlightened humanity. Nor will the religionists of the mainstream religions ever come to consider this remotely likely – for Islam totally denies the possibility of God being incarnate, radical Christians see only Jesus as a Divinity and so forth.

The Sathya Sai Baba Cult
 infiltration of SWARA

Posted by robertpriddy on September 15, 2009

Below here is a transcript of the TV coverage of a public demonstration led by the manager, other staff  and numerous clients of the Brisbane institution  SWARA (the Pink Twins’ Sathya Sai Baba service project. The reason for the protest is clear from the content. It resulted in the departure of several of the staff and more clients from the cult-run Sunshine Welfare and Remedial Association.

Infiltrating a Cult
February 2, 2009: Exclusive footage behind the scenes of an underground cult movement.
Channel: ACA (A Current Affair) NineMSN

Below is a full transcript to the NineMSN program with comments and documentation links:

Tracy Grimshaw: Well it was founded as a Government run center for disabled people to learn life skills, now it’s accused of being a front for a bizarre religious cult that started in India.
ACA – NineMSN – A Current Affair: (Confrontation scene with Kelli Vallis shouting “hurry up…hurry up…we have physical violence towards people with a disability”.)
Chris Allen: Is this a cult?
Kelli Vallis: Absolutely. If you look up the definition of a cult, you will find that they fit almost all the criteria of a cult and their behavior, more importantly their behavior, is very cult-like.
ACA – NineMSN – A Current Affair: (Confrontation scene with Kelli Vallis shouting “Security guards are manhandling our clients and they are physically abusing them”.)
Chris Allen: Ugly scenes as disable people are locked out of a center built for them by the Queensland Government.
Kelli Vallis: They are disgraceful people. They’ve taken away their rights and now they’ve actually physically abused them.
Chris Allen: Kelli Vallis is the manger of the center, or was, until the committee which runs it sacked her after she led this protest.
Kelli Vallis: They have been taken over by a cult.
Chris Allen: This is government funded?
Kelli Vallis: It absolutely is.
Moyia O’Brien: That is completely ridiculous. That is not true. The Sai Baba Organisation is not a cult, it is not even a religion. It is a service group.
Chris Allen: Moiya O’Brien is Chairman of the committee which runs the center. She’s also a devotee of Sai Baba, the Indian mystic who claims to be a god.
Moyia O’Brien: I am convinced he is part of God. He’s part of who we are. But he is perhaps a bigger part than what we are.
Chris Allen: Skeptics say Sai Baba is also a big fraud. He claims to produce magic dust and jewels from thin air. But look closely and you can see the ash comes from pellets he crushes between his fingers. And the jewels he conjures up are just sleight of hand. Here he produces a necklace. Look again and you’ll see the fumble under the box. While never convicted of a criminal offence, there have been allegations of murder, fraud and sexual abuse of children. At one stage, the US Government issued a warning about visiting his ashram in Southern India. But that hasn’t stopped millions from believing in Sai Baba, including Moiya O’Brien.
Moyia O’Brien (taken from a video at a Sai Center): Sai Ram. Life is beautiful with Baba. We are all beautiful because he is changing us.
Chris Allen: Moiya is so devoted, she’s become a sort of Sai Baba elder in Australia.
Moyia O’Brien (taken from a video at a Sai Center): How could you not love him? Baba I love you, love and adore you.
Kelli Vallis: People who come here don’t make the choice to be involved in a belief system about an Indian guru who they believe is God incarnate.
Chris Allen: Kelli says five of the seven member committee which runs the center are Sai Baba and that Moiya O’Brien has allowed the group to use the center for prayer meetings.
Kelli Vallis: They have complete control over our service.

Chris Allen: (speaking to developmentally challenged man) Do they try and recruit you, ask you to join up?
Steve (developmentally challenged man): Yeah they did but I said no way.
Chris Allen: Disabled kinds like Steve and Michelle say they’ve been pressured to join up.
Michelle (developmentally challenged woman): Yes they have tried but I’ve just stood my ground and said no it’s not for me.
Moyia O’Brien: That is completely untrue. We have never discussed Sai Baba.

Moiya O’Brien (switching back to the cult accusation): I completely deny it.
Chris Allen: But you must appreciate that people are going to say this looks like a cult, smells like a cult, it must be a cult.
Moiya O’Brien: Yeah, but it is not necessarily said.

Chris Allen: Even sadder the sight of disabled clients being manhandled by security guards hired by the committee to keep them out.
Kelli Vallis: These people are not to be left in charge or responsible of this organization or the welfare of these people. It’s just disgraceful.
Tracy Grimshaw: And in a statement sent to A Current Affair, the Department of Communities and Disability Services Queensland said it’s now investigating complaints made against that center. We will let you know the outcome.

The beguiling half-truth, backbone of deceivers

Posted by robertpriddy on September 14, 2009

The inexpressible ‘Truth’ of which Sathya Sai Baba ever talks – which he says is both eternal and not graspable by any human mind (excluding his supposedly Divine mind) – is of such a transcendent and metaphysical nature that he admits it cannot even be expressed. Yet he constantly tells us he is telling us what it is!  Such ‘truth’ which cannot be expressed should rather be consigned to silence (as Wittgenstein opined). It is like an eternal night in which all cows are black. Moreover, this ‘Truth’ which Sai Baba expresses for his own different purposes (in assuming himself to be God) constantly flies in the face of facts actually serves to hide the whole truth and not lest that of the truth of the great chain being. So much for his name ‘Sathya’ (i.e. ‘Truth’) – it evidently refers to an empty abstraction in his case!

The supposed ‘truth’ Sai Baba preaches is not of this world, he insists, which is merely a fleeting phenomenon, a passing cloud! We can certainly say it is of no value or any help at all to any genuine seeker, for has the nature of a mirage which draws the thirst spiritual seeker on into a more and more barren desert. Many end up longing for ‘release’ from the consequent emptiness of their own lives (i.e. even death).

As Kramer and Alstead have put it in ‘The Guru Papers’: The scientific method is rejected in favour of revelation, belief and otherworldly projections and hopes, and one is trained to construct and maintain a view of reality which fits the mould set by the guru. This is self-conditioning to a truth which one accepts as unchallengeable. This stagnant model of truth lies at the root of most authoritarianism.

Claims of omniscience and knowing every details about everything abound in Sathya Sai Baba’s own published discourses and in the ‘positive propaganda machine’, to which all his institutions are geared up. The result is that rumours fly all the faster and the one incredible positive story and fanciful invention after the other becomes as if factual to many devotees just because they are left to flourish, are never refuted by Sai Baba or his staff… except in the most embarrassing or unavoidable extreme circumstances. Sai Baba actually condones and even loves the rumour mill, as long as it is about his miraculous acts and omniscient and total divine power. Left alone untruth festers. Well-investigated, undeniable ‘negative’ facts need to be brought into the light of day.

Observant persons find official versions of events full of convenient omissions and editing out of doubtful and untoward statements which were nevertheless recorded in the verbatim tapes. Much of what is written make it hard to tell what comes from Sai Baba and what is merely an editor or reporter’s interpretation. Many of the leaders and officials who wish to impose their own views or manipulate people for their personal reasons take advantage of lack of clarity to impose their own advice. In such circumstances, distinguishing with precision the exact nuances of Sai Baba’s doctrines and other utterances is sometime difficult. Add to this the confusion that has arisen about his ‘teaching’ and works from the many distorted interpretations made by devotees who wish to get kudos through praising him beyond all reason and other hagiographic accounts that diverge in a wide variety of ways from the authenticated (though edited) discourse. How to interpret his living message, which he says is his life, is yet more difficult when his daily activities are so carefully cloaked and what he actually does is hard to distinguish from what occurs close to him as a result of what is said to be his orders or wishes. Above all, there is the much more challenging problem of reconciling an increasingly large number of Sai Baba’s words with one another and further, with his known his actions, as demonstrated widely on these postings.

Sai Baba has warned followers not to enter into arguments with others about spiritual matters or about his nature and mission. This also works to clamp-down on intelligent discussion, the exchange of correct information – besides being a way of controlling it and keeping facts under wraps. He always minimises the importance of facts as ‘worldly matters’ , and of scientific or scholarly investigation as mere passing phenomena. He emphasizes personal self-investigation and self-improvement, but this is done mainly on an inner level through self-examination and – more importantly – through repeating his name and visualising him, prayer and inner worship! Educated people throughout the world today rightly often expect open debate with a free exchange of opinions and frank critical evaluations. No one can live in a complete social vacuum solely with one’s own thoughts… not even a hermit, not Sai Baba either, for all carry with them the culture and the handed-down ideas and memories of others that nurtured them.

It is not exactly pleasant to mention most unpleasant facts, but since the full truth about Sathya Sai Baba is almost certain to come out, be evaluated properly, and eventually spread wherever his name is heard, some upstanding people have to contribute to this before all can be swept firmly under the carpet of time. Former devotees who have given many years of their lives in selfless service – who were accepted as leaders, teachers and authors in Sai Baba’s institutions have taken on this task as a bounden public duty of conscience. We have come to know what we once never believed could be possible, and we therefore investigated most thoroughly before realising the truth of many allegations and concealed facts about Sathya Sai Baba. I am reminded of Sai Baba’s words when inaugurating the Venkatagiri Girls’ High School many years ago, “Speak the truth always, for falsehood is the result of cowardice” (Sathyam, Sivam, Sundaram by N. Kasturi Vol. I. p.79). His present mendacity and despicable hypocrisy in covering up his misdeeds belies his words as mere lip service.

However many efforts are made to cover up significant facts, they will not succeed in the long run, especially if or when the Sai Baba mission really sometimes should become known about very widely. Penetrating investigations are already being made about many hitherto concealed matters and those who are beginning to speak out find that they have a forum and an exposé movement to support them. If, as Sai Baba insists, the truth will ultimately raise Sai Baba’s public reputation, why does he not correct the one-sided propaganda of his followers, dispel the countless ‘positive’ rumours and excessive miracle stories that circulate through the Sai movement and instead offer a balanced presentation of facts?

See on truth as a human value here
