According to Express news “This time around, Satya Saibaba did not speak nor give any message.The entire celebrations were a low-key affair”.

Also of note is their report “There were less number of foreign devotees this year for the birthday celebrations may be due to economic recession and the recent floods. NT Chowdary and Dr Damoder arranged for free food for the devotees.The district SP made elaborate police bandobast in Puttaparthi. In fact, the police have outnumbered the devotees.”

Comment: The number of visiting foreign devotees in Puttaparthi was most likely so low less due to the credit crunch than to the credibility crunch – Satya Sai Baba having been exposed for what he is – one who often practices fraudulent ‘materializations’ and who is so widely accused of sexual abuses of young males and boys under the protection of his devotees in the judiciary and government, and of complicity in the cold-blooded killings of four of his followers in his bedroom, and cover-up to the highest levels in India.

The self-proclaimed ‘omnipotent’ avatar is so physically handicapped that he could not cut his birthday cake himself, not without guiding assistance, as has been usual for years now.

Despite the many former claims of millions of visitors (3 million claimed by Sai Baba himself, though the area designated could hold no more than 300,000) it is evident that the following is vastly reduced from what it was in former days.
