The transformation of India by devotees of Sai Baba

CLICK ON IMAGE TO GO TO DECCAN HERALD ARTICLE

Conversion to what followers believe is Sathya Sai Baba’s spiritual panacea to save the world and liberate themselves from the sufferings of human life (not least through avoiding being reborn) has observably not radically changed India at all. Consequently, the vast transformation of India’s morals – its corruption, crime and violence – that he has repeatedly promised since the 1960’s has most signally failed to occur. Corruption has has only increased on a gigantic scale… which is seen by the recent Deccan Herald article (the amount of money cited is literally mind-boggling equiv. US$ 3874 billion??) and, not least, the interview with Dev Kar, a foremost international economist (see article scan at foot of this page). Long ago, Sathya Sai Baba promised Dr. John Hislop that his students were already assuming central roles in the leadership of India (as see quote bottom right too)… but not one student is known as a top leader anywhere and none have succeeded in raising India’s morals, judging by the parlous prevailing state of affairs. One wonders how many of those salting away fortunes abroad are Sai Baba followers? Your guess may not be as good as mine! If none at all, then that means at least 34,000 top people there are NOT Sai Baba followers? But so many top Indians do go to worship him, so…

SELF-TRANSFORMATION UNDERWAY?

Do followers of Sathya Sai Baba necessarily change for the better?

Writings by and about Sathya Sai Baba are full of constantly repeated talk of ‘self-transformation’. Effusive devotees  praising and thanking Sathya Sai Baba for ‘transforming’ them into better people are naive and suspect.

Self-transformation cannot be done for his followers by Sathya Sai Baba, it does not follow simply from joining his movement or organization nor from interventions in their lives like dreams or vague advice in interviews etc., which for nearly all of them is the most they could actually obtain. Because there is such an intense need for a sense of meaning in one’s life – something that is easily lost in calamity-struck societies like India – people seek all manner of ‘spiritual’ panaceas and comfort themselves that their contributions to a sect or cult will improve their own lot and hopefully those of others, and this demands belief in almost impossibly unrealistic hopes of transformation – even sudden world changes.

It is a recognised psychological fact that personality change is a very long and arduous process, and is seldom very radical after long therapy. It does not simply follow from a change of beliefs, certain attitudes or a few lifestyle alterations, which is all that conversion to the Sathya Sai Baba doctrine can really offer. I have read most of extant literature up to 2000, over 300 books etc. and can say that the disparity between the ‘great changes’ most describe and what one encounters in practice in all Sai circles is very great. Most of the talk of personal transformation is either self-induced conviction, self-enhancing belief or even pure and simple personal propaganda to advance one’s interests in relation to the Sai movement and others.

As observation of such charismatic conversions the world over indicate, one may have a change of mind without any corresponding improvement in behaviour. Rather, the converted all too often become moralizing, preaching, better-than-thou and less self-aware persons… the proverbial ‘God-botherer’. Religious feelings and prayers, rituals, devotional singing and worship (of gurus living or dead) is not the answer and never has been, as any student of human history learns early on.

Puttaparthi enthusiasm as reported by Salon.com

Posted by robertpriddy on January 28, 2011

As a journalist, Michelle Goldberg visited Sathya Sai Baba’s ashram and made an independent assessment of what she learned there. Among other things she wrote:-

Swami’s job isn’t to make you happy

Darshan is just about the only event that occurs at the ashram. There are no indoctrination or even meditation sessions. Aside from strict vegetarianism, Sai Baba prescribes no particular practices. His teachings are flowery and vague, combining colorful Hindu mythology, a Buddhist focus on transcending worldly desire, the Christian idea of service and an evangelical emphasis on direct experience of the divine. According to “Ocean of Love,” a book published last year by the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, “there is no new path that He is preaching, no new order that He has created. There is no new religion that He has come to add or a particular philosophy that He recommends … His mission is unique and simple. His mission is that of love and compassion.”

This pleasant vagueness allows believers to project anything they like onto Sai Baba. People see his hand everywhere, and in Puttaparthi’s spiritual hothouse nearly every occurrence is viewed as fresh proof of his power. Apart from letters and the coveted interviews, the accepted way to communicate with Sai Baba is via dreams and visions, and thus the town teems with people interpreting their subconscious hiccups as gospel. An American named George Leland said that Sai has come to him in the guise of a Tijuana, Mexico, traffic cop and a Japanese airline passenger. A 32-year-old Argentine woman told me she gave up her Buenos Aires apartment and her medical studies after Baba summoned her while she slept.

Stories of sacred synchronicity abound. A wheelchair-bound cancer patient from Holland, abandoned by her husband and living with friends who were Sai devotees, had a series of dreams in which the guru beckoned to her. She insisted that she told no one about the dreams, yet one day her friends surprised her with a ticket to India. The ring he materialized for her looks cheap to me — one of the stones had even fallen out — but to her it’s a talisman that has helped fight her grinding pain.

To some, Sai Baba radiates love and whimsy, while to others he’s stern and tricky, destroying their relationships or afflicting their bodies in the service of their spiritual advancement. Leland, a big, stately 61-year-old who looks like Hollywood’s version of a powerful senator, told me, “Swami’s job isn’t to make you happy, it’s to liberate you.” In his case, that meant giving up his career as a motivational speaker and then his marriage. “Sai Baba is the most powerful being that ever came to the planet,” he said over breakfast at a popular Tibetan restaurant in town. Leland, who has lived in Puttaparthi for four years, feels he must follow him, but that doesn’t mean he enjoys it. He said sadly, “Even at this moment, my mind doesn’t want to believe that God doesn’t want me to be happy, to have a relationship, to be prosperous, to enjoy life.”

“Sometimes I think the ashram is a madhouse and Swami is the director,” said Rico Mario Haus, a recent 24-year-old convert. I’d met Haus, a Swiss man whose square black glasses lent a bit of quirkiness to his wholesome good looks, two months before in the seaside state of Kerala. We’d both been extras in an Indian musical, and we’d both learned of Puttaparthi from a Sai Baba follower on the set. Ironically (or, as it now seemed to Haus, portentously), we’d played Western devotees of a towering guru who saved the soul of the errant hero. At the time, Haus was a cocky kid planning to ride his motorcycle to Kashmir. Now, wearing white pajamas, he said, “Baba was calling me. When you believe in God, there are no coincidences.” Nevertheless, he’d kept his sense of humor and found a certain subversive delight in telling us about the lunatics he lived with. “When you don’t have problems, you don’t go to the ashram,” he said.

Most of the time, Puttaparthi’s ambient spiritual hysteria is fairly faint. With its good restaurants and relatively clean streets, the town can be quite pleasant. But there are occasional bursts of madness. One afternoon, a young Malaysian woman had a psychotic breakdown, attacked ashram workers and was dragged away by police. I later found her at the police station, half-catatonic, mumbling “darshan, darshan, darshan” over and over again. At dinner another evening, Haus pointed out a wan Austrian woman tugging around a listless little boy. She was frenzied because she’d had a dream in which Sai Baba instructed her to abandon her 7-year-old son and live on the streets as a beggar, and she didn’t know whether she had the “strength” to do it.

Dr. G. Venkataraman’s delusions and cynical cover up

Posted by robertpriddy on January 26, 2011

THIS IS THE CURRENT STATE OF DIVINE BEAUTY - OF THE NOW DOUR AND DEPRESSED SATHYA SAI BABA WHO VENKATARAMAN THINKS TO HAVE 'MATCHLESS BEAUTY' (!) AND WHO "SEEMS HE IS NOT AWARE OF ANY OF THE MYSTERIES IN THE UNIVERSE HE HAS CREATED" IS THIS NOT GULLIBILITY GONE MAD?

THIS IS THE CURRENT STATE OF DIVINE BEAUTY – OF THE NOW DOUR AND DEPRESSED SATHYA SAI BABA WHO VENKATARAMAN THINKS TO HAVE ‘MATCHLESS BEAUTY’ (!) AND WHO “SEEMS HE IS NOT AWARE OF ANY OF THE MYSTERIES IN THE UNIVERSE HE HAS CREATED” IS THIS NOT GULLIBILITY GONE MAD?

Dr G. VENKATARAMAN former adviser to India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (working in connection with nuclear weaponry, of all things), Deputy Chairman of the Prashanti Council currently teaches at the Institute and is Director of the Prashanti Digital Studio and Radio Sai Global Harmony.

He has deluded himself that Sathya Sai Baba created the entire Universe (even though he has studied physics – though clearly not the critical philosophy of science). He holds that Sai Baba created evolution itself! He has certainly not studied his Grayling nor neurophilosophy, nor even understood Dawkins’ ground-breaking popular book The Selfish Gene. Venkataraman suffers from typical Indian religious spiritualism with its in-built aversion to all genuine self-critical thinking. Believing in most Indian mythology as fact, he is wonder-struck by Sathya Sai Baba…

Dr. Venkataraman has taken upon himself the role as the principal official Sai Baba defender on the Internet of Sai Baba against the world-wide allegations of sexual abuse and being an accomplice to murders and their cover-up. He also endorses fraudulent claims of ‘materializations’ (many of which were definitively not such), plus many documented lies by Sai Baba, false promises and self-serving (mostly failed) prophesies and predictions and massive, ignorance of much of human knowledge plus unsurpassed, self-aggrandisement…

Not exactly a hard-up man by any measure having held top posts in India – Dr. G. Venkataraman has been given a brand new, expensive car by Sathya Sai Baba out of funds donated to help the poor and needy (NOTE SB claims to own nothing at all! (Click here to see the official website announcement of the gift of 5 cars to 5 fat cats). This is what devotees’ donations (including large sums by my wife and I)  – intended for the uplift of the poor and suffering – are evidently used for more and more, i.e. helping rich and influential Indians! Dr. Venkataraman should have been too ashamed to accept it or at least had the moral decency to give it to help the poor instead!

THE COVER-UP OF VERY WIDELY-TESTIFIED FACTS: Dr. G. Venkataraman claims he has never found any student who said he was sexually abused by Sathya Sai Baba. However, seeing he is the top VIP defending Sathya Sai Baba in every possible respect – and seeing that students have been brutally murdered at Prashanthi Nilayam in 1993 at the very least – one would not expect abused students to confide in this compromised person. Unlike Barry Pittard and myself, as we have stood forth to defend those abused by Sai Baba, including personal friends, and promised strict confidentiality to all who do not wish their names to be made public… with the result that numerous sexually abused young men and Sai students have confided in us.

Read about the propaganda and disinformation put out by Venkataraman:-

The following screen captures show two UNESCO pages [both incidentally still found archived on-line – click on the following links UNESCO’s Media Advisory concerning Sathya Sai Baba and UNESCO’s Note of Withdrawal from sponsorship of a Sathya Sai Baba arrangement for educationalists. It was not primarily the high-handed way the Sai officials decided to shunt UNESCO into the ashram instead of a less devotional setting that UNESCO complained about, it was the sexual abuses attributed to him and investigated by them sufficiently to take the remarkable step of announcing the fact (not done by such international bodies without very good reason!).

Dr. G. Venkarataman’s attempts to cover up the facts carefully checked by UNESCO with alleging victims of sexual abuse before issuing their advisory. He claimed these URLs were removed after intervention at top diplomatic levels, holding that they defame his Lord and Master, Sathya Sai Baba. However, the facts as stated by UNESCO to the BBC are that the removal was merely of the nature of a site renovation and that UNESCO does not regret having posted the two pages (screen capture are preserved below, in case Indian minister or their UN Sai-devotee diplomat, Deputy General Secretary Shashi Tharoor, applies to get the archived URLs removed too). Click on ‘To Know More’ above to view Notice of Withdrawal by UNESCO

Secret, undercover Sathya Sai Baba and cult

Posted by robertpriddy on January 17, 2011

Sathya Sai Baba and all his willing publicists still allow nothing to emerge which gives insight into the nature of the publicly unaccountable Sathya Sai organization, Sathya Sai Central Trust or events that occur within the ashrams. No minutes or records are available from official meetings in any of his organizations or trusts, no accounts other than superficial summary statements at best.  All traces of any untoward events or facts are suppressed and censored very rigorously. Most of what is known about Sai Baba behind the scenes, and about the agenda of the organization, its methods and actual workings comes from ex´devotees who have left because of uninvestigated and most carefully covered-up criminal acts, including the sexual abuse attributed by many young men and their families and the government-quashed CBI investigation into cold-blooded executions in Sathya Sai Baba’s bedroom in 1993.

Barry Pittard has pointed out on India Interacts: “Sai Baba and his semi-feudal, ancien régime servitors and minders are less able than hitherto to influence India’s power structures“. However, apart from some notable exceptions (like IANS, IBN-CNN, the Hindustan Times and The Caravan) the Indian press has virtually been silenced or suborned by the money and political clout that Sathya Sai Baba and his supporters still exert. Among those which report positive news about him, The Hindu, The Times of India, The Pioneer and other major papers are most notably censorious of anything that might sound like criticism of him, though he is under all criticism for his megalomaniac claims of Godhead (illegal in India!) and on countless other self-glorifying counts.

Those who continue to promote Sai Baba apparently forget that the true facts have a way of festering and growing the more when denied, and they certainly will not be possible to suppress them in the future as the international media and research bodies discover on a wider front the role that Sathya Sai Baba is being accorded by the leaders of India. The documented discourses where Sai Baba propounds on science, education, women, critical thinking, caste, human rights and his extreme and unrealistic moralistic harangues are sufficient together to condemn him to the scrap heap of ideological history. Even excluding his predictions which have already failed or are too fantastic for saner people to credit (e.g. lifting a range of mountains, flying unaided through the air etc.).

One of Sai Baba's best known 'borrowed' aphorisms is the sweepingly impracticable "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil".

In this short quotation we see that Sathya Sai Baba has the blind policy of ignoring everything that is not positive, he occasionally recommends seeing the world through rose-tinted spectacles! This would make the functioning of lawful society and most human communication impossible, for there is always someone who will feel harmed by almost any truth. This truth avoidance applies above all to himself, he wants to be a mystery, to be left to himself, and warns strongly against inquiry into him! Yet paradoxically (or hypocritically?) Sai Baba himself is ever condemning ills and ill-doers in general and sweeping terms, both those in Indian and world society… and in  terms that are anything but ‘rosy’. He very seldom makes identification of those he attacks in public attacks straightforward, but they are nevertheless made against people who can be identified by interested parties. In a discourse full of contradictions and complaints on 19 January 2002, Sathya Sai Baba spoke of the press as follows: “Whatever paper one is from, write exactly what has happened. It is not wrong. They bring in what has not happened at all and put that in the paper. Only when non-existent and amazing things are put in, they will get more money. Just write exactly what happens. If it is a wrong, write it as a wrong. If there is good, write it as good. Only that; but don’t mix in what isn’t there.” But what actually happens is unfortunately not always good, so SB is against investigative journalism and uncovering injustice, crime and heinous actions?

About a decade ago he stated: “I am 76 years old. Up till now I have not met with any newspaperman or TV people. (Applause) I don’t have any relationship with papers at all. For, if good is spoken, without fail friendship can be made with them. But they write contradictory things.” (ibid). He has had relationships with newspapers, so that is not true. There are several well-known interviews he gave to press people, including Mr. Karanjia of ‘Blitz Magazine’ and to a few selected journalists since then. “Today’s newspaper is tomorrow’s wastepaper“, says Sai Baba – yet another English penny proverb taught him his former ‘ghost writer’ and spin doctor, Prof. N. Kasturi). However, newspaper reports about his secret activities and many failings have been preserved on the Internet nor all his ‘piety’ or tears can remove a word of it.

A report on his behaviour in one of his journals (ibid) stated: “He came with a pistol near Me. They saw it.”(Swami’s voice imitates in a taunting way the sound of people gossiping:) What lies, just tell! (Laughter) (Swami’s voice turns louder, accusing and strong:) Was there even one newspaperman there? Who saw? (Swami pounds the table saying:) Why should anyone tell such untruths? No one came at all! Finally, we see that pistol is a gas (air) pistol, used only to shoot birds. When all of it is like this, why such big publicity? This is a BIG mistake.” If “nothing happened” why such a big mistake since it actually happened, why such a strong reaction? “Let the paper men think anything. I don’t get anything out of the newspaper. My paper – my heart only is My paper. From My heart, there is so much Love only: only Love, only Love. (Applause) So I am sharing that Love. Let it be anyone at all: I will share it with all. All are Mine. I belong to all. I don’t have hatred for anyone. All have only Love for Me. I have Love for everybody. Therefore, Love is the close relationship between both of us.” It is always easy to boast about one’s own love for some self-serving people, but why was Sai Baba not sharing his “love” with the newspapermen?

Suffering was given to the hearts of how many people? The journalists have succumbed to so much sin! From so many places – America, Germany, Japan, England, telegrams came from all directions. Therefore, none should succumb to so much jealousy.(ibid) This suggests that many  do not really believe in his “infallibility”? Why does he make such a fuss when a simple clarification is all that was needed, rather than a whole public discourse to be widely published? Does Sai Baba really think that journalists whose job it is to follow up news for clarification all suffer from jealousy? Either he is badly misinformed or he is trying to smear journalists as ‘sinful’ and ‘jealous’ (of him? Not many serious people would want his reputation nowadays surely)

Sathya Sai Baba cannot abide any non-partisan report about himself, especially when anything untoward occurs at his ashrams. The incident in this case was a bagatelle, but there are many incidents which are not so and are even sinister.

Isaac Tigrett & a fake ‘crystal skull’ Sai Baba ‘materialized’

Posted by robertpriddy on January 15, 2011

The lunatic fringe is alive and well at Sathya Sai Baba’s ashrams – and it is on centre stage too with one lunatic forerunner – the former US millionaire of the Hard Rock Cafe, Isaac Tigrett. Tigrett has stated that Sathya Sai Baba – who Tigrett worships as God Incarnate etc. etc. – gave him a crystal skull at an interview where the object just appeared in Sai Baba’s hands. Tigrett believes in the supernatural power of this skull and that cosmic balance depends on it (somehow) and that it carries a cosmic curse which can destroy the earth. Tigrett has been one of Sathya Sai Baba’s foremost publicists, and he even told the BBC (see The Secret Swami) that he believes that Sai Baba is a sexual abuser and that if he were to murder someone it would make no difference to his faith in him! He has also started what he calls a ‘spiritual retreat’ in the forests of Coorg (S. India) entitled ‘The Mystic Inn of the Seventh Ray’. Here follows some of the fantastic and laughable details of Tigrett’s antics on the Pyramid Arena in Memphis (USA).

Excerpts from report on the Memphis (US) ‘Pyramid’ with Isaac Tigrett’s ‘crystal skull’

Laura L. Sullivan has written about the Pyramid Arena in Memphis, Tennessee and Isaac Tigrett’s crystal skull. The Pyramid was built in the early 1990s, but is “no longer operating as a commercial venue, and debates abound about how the building should be used and by whom.”

“Mystical Aspects of the Pyramid(s)
During the construction of the Pyramid Arena in the early 1990s, the local newspaper the Memphis Flyer broke the story that there were crystal skulls implanted at the top of the structure, reportedly of Mayan origin. According to the Commercial Appeal newspaper, the idea for a crystal skull came from Isaac Tigrett, son of original co-financier John Tigrett (Graham). The media reported then-mayor Dick Hackett’s displeasure upon encountering the crystal skulls and his request for their removal. There was also some general outcry from members of the public, though many folks just saw the news of the skulls as another bizarre twist in an already labyrinthine story.”

“Another writer describes a “crystal skull time capsule that ‘was retrieved within a year of the Pyramid’s opening, creating both an ownership controversy and ruining the marketing surprise [the developer] had planned’ (Murtaugh). Although media reports claim that the skulls have been removed, anonymous sources have revealed to our research team that there are still some crystal skulls at the top of the pyramid. Sources tell us that some city politicians belong to secret societies (in the Freemason tradition), divided along racial lines, and the crystal skulls are an attempt to have influence and consolidate power. Crystal skulls, ancient objects of indigenous societies, are used as tools to direct energy and as channels, facilitating communications from spiritual realms and ancestors (Crystal). In Memphis, these Masonic-leaning politicians (and even one of our sources) believe that the remaining crystal skulls in the Pyramid are still ‘working’, energetically.

Maybe we need to be putting in a call to Isaac Tigrett to see if he’ll put his crystal skull back in The Pyramid. On February 10, we wrote about the crystal skull that was discovered in the apex of The Pyramid and removed in the early days of the iconic building. That post was largely a tongue-in-cheek commentary about the cosmic risk of removing the skull. Perhaps, we spoke too soon. After all, we seem to be the midst of crystal skull frenzy, and we missed our change to get in on the ground floor.

First, there was “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull racking up more than $300 million. Then, two weeks ago, the Smithsonian opened its crystal skull exhibit, and now, the museum plans to premiere its documentary, “Legend of the Crystal Skulls,” in September. Now we learn that there are crystal skulls on exhibit in the British Museum in London and the Musee du Quai Branly in Paris.

Faking It
Star of the Smithsonian exhibit and the film is a crystal skull that arrived in the mail at the Smithsonian 16 years ago. It was in a package addressed to “MezoAmerican Museum” and a letter said it was made by the Aztecs. Neither the museum or the skull was real. In other words, the nation’s foremost museum system have taken a fake and turned it into a franchise. If only we had been so clever.  Some say the skulls are from Atlantis. Other say that if all of them come together at the same place, they will release all knowledge and stop computers. Some say they were made by Mayans or maybe even extraterrestrials. And yet, if the skull has any power, it is its ability to inspire myths and legends. In that, it has something in common with The Pyramid. For 17 years, we’ve harbored the myth that it can become a 365-day a year tourist attraction.

The most ominous warning was given by Isaac Tigrett following the removal of the crystal skull that he had secretly riveted to the steel superstructure of The Pyramid apex. The small black box was spotted by a maintenance man about a year after the arena had opened.

“Cosmic Imbalance
Pried from its secret place, the box was opened (the momentous event was filmed) with great ceremony in a conference room in the bottom of The Pyramid, and inside the velvet-lined box and covered with gauze dusted with a fragrant powder was a small crystal skull.  Because of Mr. Tigrett’s interest in Eastern mysticism, it was immediately obvious who put it there. Although the skull seemed to have more in common with those allegedly found in Mayan archaeological sites, city and county officials were told that the skull had materialized in the hands of Mr. Tigrett’s guru, Sathya Sai Baba, during a conversation.  After all, the founder of Hard Rock Café and House of Blues had a special debt to the Indian mystic, who protected him during a devastating car wreck in California. Hurtling off the road in his sports car, Mr. Tigrett said that Sai Baba appeared in his car, put his arms around him and protected him from harm. The car was destroyed.

In other words, the crystal skull’s connection to the religious leader and guru gave it special power, which was amplified by the additional force of The Pyramid itself, according to Mr. Tigrett. “You don’t have any idea what you have done,” he said upon being told that the crystal skull had been removed, adding somberly that the cosmic balance of the earth could be disturbed as well.”

“Curses
By that time, suggestions that removal of the skull could curse The Pyramid were laughable. After all, with the crystal skull in place, little had gone right there. If Memphis had been interpreting signs, perhaps there wasn’t one delivered more forcefully than the thunder storm that postponed the “Big Dig” extravaganza to kick off construction. A native American telephoned city and county officials with a warning – the Pyramid site was sacred and that the rain was an omen of worse things to come. Officials joked about the warning for days. Two years later, no one was laughing. Construction had been delayed, the price had increased, and the shape-shifting Shlenker/Tigrett development was no closer to coming into focus.

The Great American Pyramid plan was essentially dead. So was the Hard Rock Café; the glass inclinator to the apex; the perverse mutation of of Egyptology and rock music into Rakapolis; Dick Clark’s American Music Awards Hall of Fame; a re-creation of the Cavern, ground zero for Beatles fans, and priceless Stax Records artifacts; an Omnimax theater; a light and music spectacle in the arena on non-event days; a radio station on the top of the building beaming shortwave Memphis music; and what became called the “scheme du jour,” ideas that often became inoperable before the end of the business day.”

Sathya Sai Baba’s unsurpassed claims

Posted by robertpriddy on January 12, 2011

Sai Baba cries affected by praise CLICK ON IMAGE

The absurdity of what are surely the most excessive claims of divinity made by any living person becomes constantly more evident. A majority of those who have invested their faith – and not least their prestige – in this fraudulent Godhead are still unable to bite the bullet or break the spell. As the facts become more and more known, the entire Sathya Sai Baba undertaking is seen for what it is – a religiously-indoctrinated cultist delusion, despite the good intentions and activities of the genuine people who have followed and supported him.

  • I have a “Task”: To foster all mankind and ensure for all of them lives full of ananda (bliss). I have a “Vow”: To lead all who stray away from the straight path again into goodness and save them. I am attached to a “work” that I love: To remove the sufferings of the poor and grant them what they lack. I have a “reason to be proud”, for I rescue all who worship and adore me, aright. I have my definition of the “devotion” I expect: Those devoted to me have to treat joy and grief, gain and loss, with equal fortitude. This means that I will never give up those who attach themselves to me.

Sathya Sai Baba and the Truth

Posted by robertpriddy on January 9, 2011

Thomas Jefferson On Lying: “He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world’s believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good dispositions.” Letter to Peter Carr [August 19, 1785]

“Disinformation…  involves the deliberate, calculated dissemination of equivocal data, partially true, partially erroneous, in order to conceal something, to deflect attention in one or another peripheral or tangential direction. But the best lies are always embellishments or variations of the truth, not total fabrications. The most effective disinformation is always structured around a core of validity.
(from The Messianic Legacy by Baigent, Leigh & Lincoln London 1968)

Sathya Sai Baba spreads disinformation, rumours and untruth on a massive scale: Having visited Sathya Sai Baba and met him many times through 15 years, and having studied (and indexed) his every known word published up to about 2001, and various other discourses since then, it is glaringly evident that he does not adhere to the truth in many matters. I am but one of many who have reached this same conclusion. Here I detail, from his own published words and known actions, some of the huge plethora of untruth he has spun through the decades – quite apart from the speculative doctrines and often absurd and bogus claims he has made, not least a host of predictions – many of which have failed already or are so preposterous as to be factually incredible.

Sai Baba is himself taking money under false pretenses: will presumably continue to lie ‘until blue in the face’, and still claim that he is giving away ‘diamonds’ when they are not. For a start, he lied about the ring he evidently pretended to ‘materialize’ for me. as having a diamond in it, as he has done about many other such gemstones – not one so far have been shown to be genuine! They and other things were all no doubt given in the hope of greater returns in donations, gratis work, promotion and praise of himself and much more besides. He has stated: “Where money is calculated, garnered or exhibited to demonstrate one’s achievements, I will not be present.” This in the very same discourse where he states the money he is spending!
He personally accepted in his hand a cheque from me for a large amount (£ 6,000. – in 1987) and I know others who gave him cheques in private interviews. He has stated that he signs every single cheque accepted by the Sathya Sai Central Trust, and the manager of the State Bank of India in Puttaparthi (a nephew of his, who I asked about whether another cheque I had sent was received) showed me a very thick wad of cheques which he flicked through to show Sai Baba’s signatures on all of them!

Sathya Sai Baba knows that giving these trinkets or other apparent divine favours will cause most of the rich recipients to donate large sums of money, devote much work and time to his advancement. This is a very advanced form of scam. It is interesting to observe how so many credulous persons try to sustain their complete faith in him now that so many indubitable facts have come to light. Lack of self-confidence and fear of consequences are major factors, as well as loss of status, friends and realisation of having been thoroughly duped and having wasted major efforts and money on this deceiver. But much in which they had faith is most likely as crippled in their minds as Sai Baba is himself, and many are racked within by private sufferings that have to be denied on his ‘divinely instructive example’. But Sai Baba has said that the truth protects those who face it!

A few Sai Baba lies and hypocritical words belied by his actions:-

1) “Swami has nothing to do with internet. Not only now, even in future also. You should not indulge in such wrong activities.” (Discourse 15 October 1999 – see full text here)
This statement by Sathya Sai Baba was made when the allegations of sexual abuse by young men were being exposed on the Internet, no doubt to try to stop devotees looking at the materials. It proved an extremely effective ‘divine commandment’ where most are concerned. His prediction of having nothing to do with the Internet “in the future also” shows he is no more able to know the future than anyone else. The Internet became gradually more and more important for his officially endorsed servitors to spread his discourses, images, news and radio talks. In this light, the following statement shows how he tries to isolate all his followers from the world at large:- There is no need to go outside the Sai fold.

* Sai alone adheres totally to truth – Sathya Sai Speaks Volume 17, p. 187
* Sai never deviates from His word – Sathya Sai Speaks Volume 2  p.116
* See also: Sathya Sai Baba untruth about his servitors’ longevity

2) “From today onwards, I am not going to give Padanamaskar to anybody because you and I are one…. If you want to do Namaskar, do it mentally.” (Sanathana Sarathi, August 2001) But he soon continued accepting this form of worship on a large scale! See more here)

3) Under the heading ‘Give Help Without Publicity’ in Sanathana Sarathi October 2003, p. 295, Sathya Sai Baba said in a discourse after an earlier speaker had spoken extensively about the achievements of the Sai hospital: “I always advise the doctors not to publicise what we do in the hospital. There are several wonderful things that are happening.” Whereupon he goes on at great length about supposedly marvellous achievements of the hospital in two individual cases! He may advise the doctors, but for himself he cannot stop bragging what results it achieves, how it should be a model for all health care systems! This yet again shows the complete discrepancy between Sai Baba’s word and deed within the space of two sentences. http://www.saibaba-x.org.uk/1/Sai_Baba’s_bragging.htm

4) “The Lord has no intention to publicize Himself. I do not need publicity, nor does any other Avathar of the Lord. What are you daring to publicize? Me? What do you know about me? You speak one thing about me today and another tomorrow.” (from the 47th Birthday Discourse : see http://www.sathyasai.org/discour/1968/d681123.htm)
Masquerading as the Lord of all Creation, its Creator, he has had every intention of publicising himself, which he has done in thousands of discourses which are always also about himself! These he has allowed to be printed, filmed and recorded so they can be spread worldwide, not least by the endlessly boring and propaganda programmes of ‘World Radio Sai’.

If the above were not enough, see some other sources:-
* Sai goes to whole world without publicitySathya Sai Speaks Volume p. 176
* Spiritual attainment shuns publicity – (3)§41 Sadhana
* Publicity/gaining disciples, I have not come forSathya Sai Speaks Volume 1, p. 165
* Publicity for Sai is selfishness & is unwantedSathya Sai Speaks Volume 4 p. 210
* The Sai Organisation not for ensuring publicity for SaiSathya Sai Speaks Volume 8, p. 230
* Sathya Sai’s message, needs no propagation Sathya Sai Speaks Volume 13, p 15
* Sai name not publicised by SaiSathya Sai Speaks Volume 8, p. 95f

5) On 11/8/2001, Sathya Sai Baba held a discourse (published in Sanathana Sarathi, September 2001) where he detailed the running costs of the two hospitals, the colleges etc. and how much investment is needed to cover these. This sum – amounting to the interest from 600 crores of rupees (about $120 mill), is perhaps surprisingly little, considering the billions that have been donated to him. Half the interest of this 600 crores goes to the Bangalore hospital, 2/6th to the Puttaparthi hospital and 1/6th to all the educational institutions together. Sai Baba asks rhetorically, “Wherefrom does it all come?” And adds so self-deprecatingly, “However, I am giving it” (p. 264). Does Sai Baba himself have any money to give, then? He has always claimed to be a renunciant who owns nothing. For example, “At a meeting of the Central Trust yesterday, I told the members including Sri Indulal Shah, that I had no interest in property. Do not involve me in any connection with these properties. I do not wish to have any connection with money or property. My only concern is with my devotees. Telling them all this, I signed the papers.“ (1.01.1998, Sanathana Sarathi, Vol.  41, January1998, p. 4). However, a person who has control over the multi-billion dollar trust in that all his chosen ‘directors’ are legally totally beholden to him in everything he decides and – in their faith that he is all-knowing Divinity – dare not contradict him, cannot be said to be without property. He has expressed his gratitude to anyone for the help he personally receives? No! As usual, Sathya Sai Baba claims “I do not accept anything from anyone” (p. 168). How can he really not receive ANYTHING, just like everyone else alive does? Impossible! He is the recipient of many goods that most Indians regard as unattainable luxuries! This he compounds by claiming that:-

* ‘Offerings of goods are always rejected by Sai‘ – Sathya Sai Speaks Volume 12, p. 314
This raises the inevitable question about the unaccountable Sathya Sai Central Trust –

The above encompasses a small part of the lies, deceptions, false predictions and promises given by Sathya Sai Baba. One can find much else, for example:-

Sathya Sai Baba reveals what Jesus, the Three Kings etc. really said!

Posted by robertpriddy on January 4, 2011

Frontspiece of Sathya Sai Publications pamphlet

Frontspiece of Sathya Sai Publications pamphlet

1998 Xmas Discourse (Sandesh): In his traditional Christmas references to Jesus Christ, Sathya Sai Baba gives VERBATIM accounts within quotes of what each of the three ‘Arabian’ kings (or shepherds or Tibetans) said to Mother Mary, and not least too statements Jesus made to Paul! Not only did Paul never meet Jesus, but the alleged connection between them was Paul’s conversion experience describe it as miraculous, supernatural, or otherwise revelatory in nature. Some kind of ‘vision’ Paul had causing his conversion from a persecutor of Christians to a self-appointed ‘apostle’ (NOT one of the four apostles, of course). This all happened after Jesus’ crucifixion. The following quotations from Sathya Sai Baba (in brown text) are transcribed from the scans of the original publication, see below.

Initially, Paul hated Jesus - said Sathya Sai Baba

Excerpt from official Prashanthi Nilayam publication of Christmas Sandesh 1998

Initially, Paul hated Jesus. One day Jesus appeared in his dream and asked him lovingly, “PauI, what harm have I done to you, why do you criticise Me? All your travails are consequences of your own actions; I am not responsible for your suffering.” Then Paul was transformed and attained sainthood.

Comment: Sai Baba once again takes upon himself to quote the EXACT WORDS of Jesus, claiming that he knows everything about everyones past, present and future! Is it likely that any serious researchers, let alone any Christians, would take any notice at all of these self-appointed ‘omniscient’ ramblings about Christianity? These are far from being the only ‘howlers’ Sai Baba has granted to the world about Christianity (see also here)

from Christmas Sandesh - discourse by Sathya Sai 1998“When Paul went on accusing Jesus, He lovingly went up to him and gave him a pleasing smile. The sweetness of the nectarine smile of Jesus transformed the poisonous heart of Paul. Be always cheerful, even in times of adversities. Always put up a smiling face, never a castor-oil face. “Happiness is union with God”.”

Comment: Now we have Jesus going up to Paul and giving him a bit of the good old Sathya Sai Baba ‘smile’ that does the trick transforming poisonous hearts! A shame that the smiles have all disappeared from Sathya Sai Baba and are replaced by wooden and castor-oil faces! (See examples from his birthday in 2010 and more).

1998 Xmas discourse
“When it was decided that all the devotees of Jesus should be crucified along with Him, even His closest devotees, Peter, Matthew, and St. Paul refused to identify themselves as His followers.”

Comment: So Paul, who never accepted or met Jesus until after his death, is now presented as one of the disciples prior to his trial!. Quite a smart reinvention of history which has its charms too!
This is in the same genre of Sai ignorance as his claim that Moses.

Sathya Sai Baba on birth of Jesus and what the three kings of orient said

From 1998 Christmas Sandesh by Sathya Sai Baba - Prashanthi Nilayam publication

“When Jesus was born three Arabian kings came to see Him. They were overjoyed seeing the newborn babe. While returning, the first king said to Mary, “Mother, you have given birth to a child who loves God.” The second king said, “Mother you have given birth to a child who will be loved by God.” The third king said, “Mother Mary, your child is not different from God, both are one and the same.”

Comment: More verbatim reported speech with only 2000 years delay! Perhaps Sai Baba hopes that Nativity plays will be re-texted to fit his doctrine…. that all are not different but God one and the same. However, Sathya Sai Baba has given a totally different version of who the three ‘kings’ were: “It is said that when Jesus was born in a manger, three kings were led by a star to Jesus’s place of birth. In fact, they were not kings but three shepherds.” (25.12.1994). Sathya Sai Speaks XXVII, p. 296).

But then Sai Baba seems to endorse yet another identity for the three visitors: “And, the story says, there was a Star in the sky, which fell with a New Light, and this led a few Tibetans and others to the place where the Saviour was born.” (24.12.1972. Sathya Sai Speaks Vol.  XI, p. 343)

From 1998 Christmas Sandesh by Sathya Sai Baba - Prashanthi Nilayam publication

SSB yet again shows his complete ignorance of Christian origins

“The term Christmas has been derived from the roman language. Truly speaking, Christmas falls in the month of March, not in December. Since it is very cold in December and people are confined to their homes, they utilise this time to celebrate Christmas. Actually Jesus was born in the month of March. With the passage of time this fact has been distorted and misrepresented in the Bible.”

Comment: As he so often does, Sathya Sai Baba invents ‘facts’ to suit himself. He is unaware that there is no such term as ‘Christmas’ prefiguring Christmas anywhere in Roman Latin. The word ‘Christmas’ is derived from the Middle English Christemasse and Old English Cristes mæsse (meaning “Christ’s Mass”). Origin: first recorded in 1038. “Cristes” is from Greek Christos and “mæsse” is from Latin missa (the holy mass). In Greek, the letter Χ (chi), is the first letter of ‘Christ’, and together with the similar Roman letter X, has been an abbreviation for ‘Christ’ since the mid-16th century. Thus, Xmas is sometimes used as an abbreviation for Christmas.
Were this not enough, Sai Baba has on different occasions given a number of different dates for the birth of Jesus! In Conversations with Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Dr. John Hislop records Sai Baba as stating: “Christ was born on 24’th December near midnight” (page 110). However, we read the authenticated statement that Jesus born Sunday, 3.15 a.m/December 29th (-1 BC)

From 1998 Christmas Sandesh by Sathya Sai Baba - Prashanthi Nilayam publication

“When Jesus reached this stage, He had no suffering at all; He was always blissful and was prepared foil anything. Even at the time of crucifixion, he was smiling, because he realised that He was not the body.”

Comment: Interesting information  that Sathya Sai Baba pretended to ‘manifest’ a crucifix from a piece of the original cross (he said) “shows Christ as he really was at the time he left his body, not as artists have imagined him or as historians have told about him“… not a happy smile at all! The Divine Avatar came to save India first, then humanity

Posted by robertpriddy on January 2, 2011

Securing oneself seems to be even primary to saving India! Here is the palatial “Divine Residence” – one of Sathya Sai Baba’s many, probably the best and most well-protected…a bigger and better luxury residence at Prashanthi Nilayam – into which a large part of the donations intended by donors for the uplift of India go!

Sathya Sai Baba palace at Prashanthi Nilayam

The third set of apartment was built for Sai Baba in the grounds of the Prashanthi Nilayam ashram at Puttaparti

When Daylight Comes: A Biography of Helena Petrovna BlavatskySathya Sai Baba condones India’s greatest evils by ignoring them. He lauds and blesses any corrupted politician who visits him and never speaks out against the many inhumane policies, their signal failure to take care of the most basic needs of most India’s population, the massive Swiss bank accounts most of them hold, or riding the gravy train while the privileged get richer and richer. Claiming omniscience and omnipotence – Sai Baba never had the guts to speak out against their many powerful and brutal oppressors and utterly vile criminals throughout India… he has never defended in any substantial way whatever the tortured, raped, murdered and utterly desolate people of India, the tribals, the countless dispossessed persons, the vast army of beggars, the people of Kashmir. Against Mahatma Gandhi’s revered principle, Sathya Sai welcomes ‘blood money’ and even sat through in a public announcement of donors giving at least one crore at his 70th Birthday celebrations (such as Bhangarappa, a known corrupt Karnataka politician, who gave ten million rupees, and two famous Indian ‘liquor barons’, one of whom, Mr. Reddy, was murdered in Madras in 1996 only a week or so after a personal visit by Sai Baba accompanied by V.K. Narasimhan). His involvement with corrupt politicians is well documented – he reportedly saved Narasimha Rao from prison (Rao fled to his feet with thanks as soon as the verdict came). Tit-for-tat, N. Rao and A.B. Vajpayee protected him from prosecutions.

Despite his many earlier ‘avataric predictions’ that he claims cannot fail, India’s gigantic injustices and problems are getting no better – still no social security whatever (all the poor get to live on is sunlight), increase in already enormous wall-to-wall corruption, more infanticide, still bonded labour and life servitude as debtors to criminal moneylenders, child prostitution, a massive and growing AIDS epidemic, unimaginable numbers of child labourers, vast peasant penury, many farmer suicides, the traditional wife killings, ghastly begging mafias which deform babies into ‘rat children’ and ‘spidermen’ for profit, not to mention all manner of sexual abuse of children (which will be known to the world, Sathya Sai Baba).

Sai Baba stated in 2005 that he was “minded to take a world tour”. No one believed he dare ever leave the protection of Indian State, for a start. However, this belies his promise not to travel abroad until he had solved India’s problems, as he has repeatedly pledged. The man is a hotbed of contradictions, false predictions and outright lies, and the most remarkable fact is that so many fail to see that, or wish to hear a word about it. It is well recorded how Sathya Sai Baba has told leading devotees on several occasions that he would visit them in their countries – for example USA, Italy, U.K., Southern California and other places – but then he has changed his supposedly all-knowing mind, saying that India must be cured first! Devotees abroad have built mansions to house him and he has even himself caused the rebuilding of a new, lush, balconied apartment for him at Divignano in Italy (‘Mother Sai House’) because the toilet was not to his liking – i.e. it was European style and not hole-in-the-floor – I have been shown the luxurious teak-floored result myself! His followers Robert Baskin built a million dollar residence for his expected visit!

This ‘Divine Descent’ boils down to a person who has ‘come to earth’ to pronounce his own magnificence, promote himself as the purest and greatest of all beings, Creator of the Universe, who oversees the erection of diverse expensive monuments to himself. What is so ‘Divine’ about managing to collect people’s money to ‘fix the plumbing’ (for a limited areas to combat water shortage in Chennai, but wastefully in Rayalaseema with big setbacks involving technical failings, (unpredicted by the ‘omniscient’ Baba) severely falling water table, entrepreneur corruption and no one who will maintain it all). Or how specifically Divine is it to use part of the donations to open a couple of hospitals to enhance his name and fame and where his devotees (including foreigners and Indian VIPs) can get hi-tech treatment, but where patients appear to be very scarce in these big half-empty places in an area where the need of the Indian poor is so vast and intense? (Imran Khan has opened a free modern hospital in Pakistan, and many other have done likewise). Is this a Divine Descent? Or are we rather dealing with what The Daily Telegraph called Divine Downfall?

Sai Baba's private jet - hired to take him 'on holiday' to Kodaikanal in 2005

The wheelchair invalid in a privately hired jet airliner yet again in 2006.

Talk about waste/misuse of donated funds. Sathya Sai was “minded to make a world tour”. Though it is most likely another ‘bum prediction’, if he did it would surely be in another private jet hired with funds given for the poor, education, health etc., The almost unused Jumbo airport cost a small fortune!
