The Hindu – only some comments allowed?

Posted by robertpriddy on May 17, 2011

The Hindu accepts e-mail letters about articles it has posted on-line. A couple of such letters were sensible (shown here), the rest were the usual apologists’ one-sided defense of Sathya Sai Baba. I have written a brief e-mail, signed Robert Priddy, and await with interest to see whether The Hindu will post it, or whether they are still too biased. Watch this URL:

UPDATE: After 24 hours,The Hindu has not so far posted my letter. This indicates that they are censoring it. Therefore I am posting it exactly as sent to them here:-

One of my best friends among all Indians and my closest confidante when I was a devotee of Sathya Sai Baba was V.K. Narasimhan, who was – for most of his journalistic life – the assistant editor of The Hindu. After an illustrious career in journalist – ending as Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Express Group – he followed his devotee wife to Sai Baba’s ashram, where they settled. He felt that Sai Baba’s social works were one of the best things in Andhra Pradesh at the time, since he was extremely cynical about the government and their achievements – even the will to improve the lot of anyone but their own class or caste. He did not believe Sathya Sai Baba was omniscient, omnipotent or omnipresent… nor did he believe in the miracles or the many alleged healings by Sai Baba (he was himself let down badly and lost an eye despite SB applying vibuti etc.) All this I have described at length, and I have scanned and posted many excerpts from the daily diaries I wrote during my over 1 1/2 years in the ashrams, especially my conversations with Narasimhan.

It was also VKN, as he was widely known, who administered the felling blow to my faith in Sai Baba by telling me in strict confidence and a lowered voice of SB’s younger brother’s blackmailing of the police and Sai Baba’s own covered-up involvement in those events. “They did a terrible thing…” was his judgement, and the Home Minister S.B. Chavan laughed together with Sai Baba’s younger brother – a multi-millionaire property speculator and Puttaparti brother owner Janaki Ramiah – commenting “Dead men tell no tales!” Such was my faith that, even then, it took me four years to deal with the information properly and rid myself about the many confusions about Sai Baba which naturally arise before one takes the bull by the horns and allows oneself to think seriously and critically… which eventually led me to investigate the sex abuse claims. This led to utter conviction that at least a majority of the testimonies were true… little though I wished for that outcome! Knowing the details of how SB was a willing accomplice to murder and its cover-up, along with Sathya Sai Central Trust, other ashram officials and – not least – the Home Minister S.B. Chavan and then-Prime Minister Narasimha Rao, I had after VKN had safely departed this life to shoulder the heavy burden of telling the public what I knew.

Sai Baba – ‘The Hindu’ allows criticism, but…

Posted by robertpriddy on May 16, 2011

UPDATE: After 2days plus: BUT ‘The Hindu’ accepts e-mail letters about articles it has posted on-line I have written a brief e-mail, signed Robert Priddy, and awaited with interest to see whether The Hindu posted it. My mail was reasonable and factual (see here).  That The Hindu has not so far posted my letter indicates that they are censoring it.

Previously I wrote:-
After many years of virtual subservience to Sathya Sai Baba and his doctrines, combined with refusal to entertain the views of critics – not even answering our letters – and nothing but virtual promotional articles of Sathya Sai Baba as endorsers of his sainthood, ‘The Hindu’ has at last relented somewhat. It has allowed a critical article, which is important and deserves wide propagation. Having long kow-towed to that substantial elite in India which has long invested all its prestige in the worship of Sai Baba, the editors of The Hindu are probably beginning to realize that they have put their credibility on a knife-edge in the eyes of the world, because of the tremendous controversy about the illness and death of Sathya Sai Baba both in India and the world press. No one can now be fully unaware of the extreme secrecy and cover-up of the slightest facts about him – in this case his long-standing bad health condition, the physiological cause of his fatal organ failures, and the uncertainty about how he declared dead (no death certificate) plus suspicions about the timing of his death (why was he disconnected from life support just on Easter Sunday?). The tale of smoke and mirrors goes on… why did he not pass into mahasamadhi as a realised yogi is – in India at least – fully expected to do, but died unconscious and his body ravaged by a wasting illness and multiple organ failures? Was it not AIDS? Then there is the behind the scenes battle about control of the billions of dollars in the Sathya Sai Central Trust and its various flagship projects (prestigious in Andhra Pradesh, though minor charities within the larger picture)… the myth of Sathya Sai Baba and his as being the God Creator is unravelling at such a pace that even religiously inclined newspaper editors are getting cold feet. This is to be welcomed on behalf of all that is good and true in India, all those who are so enormously exploited and suppressed by the authorities, from the President, Prime Minister and on down through the ranks. This is what The Hindu – now deserving of some (rather tentative) congratulation – published:-

The phenomenon of Satya Sai Baba

As the dust after the death of Satya Sai Baba has largely settled, it is time to evaluate him, his work and its implications, objectively and unemotionally, for there is a good deal to be learnt from his life and death.

His rise to fame from an ordinary, even humble background, was based on (i ) his claim that he was the reincarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba ; (ii) his claim that he represented divinity, that is, God himself ; (iii) that, consequently, he had powers that no mortal man had ; (iv) that he could provide succour and mental peace to people who came to him with problems of various kinds ; and (v) that he engaged himself in charitable works like opening hospitals and providing potable water to villagers.

Let us examine his above claims and actions one by one. There is not a shred of evidence of rebirth; the very idea of rebirth goes against all of science. Every claimed case of rebirth that has been investigated has been shown to be fake.

As regards his being a reincarnation of God, the only proof he provided was that of performing miracles or miraculous acts. The fact is that he never performed a miracle. In fact, no miracle has ever been performed by any one. All miracles attributed to religious leaders are inventions of the clergy. An example would be that of Mother Teresa whom I met and who never claimed to have performed a miracle in her lifetime. But for her to be canonized after her death two miracles had to be — and were — invented and attributed to her. Every single act of Sai Baba that was a miracle in the public eye could be performed by ordinary magicians.
My colleague at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology at Hyderabad, Dr. M. W. Pandit, performed them publicly. So did the well-known rationalist, the late Premanand. Invite Dr. Narendra Nayak by sending an e.mail to and he will come and perform for you every miracle that Sai Baba ever claimed to have performed — be it producing a ring or a Japanese watch or sacred ash from nowhere, or his photograph shedding sacred ash.

As regards the miraculous cures he claimed to have performed, we never heard of his failures. A distant cousin of mine had her young son suffering from an incurable disease. Sai Baba who blessed him said he would be cured. When she went back to him after the child’s death, Sai Baba told her that he felt it was best for the child to come to him and that is what he caused to happen; so there was no reason for worry.

The cures that may have been effected were never established to be directly on account of Sai Baba’s ‘divine’ intervention. They were probably natural or psychosomatic, of which numerous examples are known. After all, what do neuropsychologists or psychiatrists do? That is why he never allowed rationalists like Professor Narasimhaiah, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, or Premanand, to come anywhere near him. It is believed that it were his men who actually once beat up Narasimhaiah.

The late Dr. Y. Nayudamma, the former Director-General of CSIR, who died in an Air India crash near Canada years ago, told me of his visit to Sai Baba with a once ardent follower, Dr. S. Bhagavantam, a former Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister. Nayudamma stood in front of Sai Baba with folded hands and most respectfully, requested him to produce a blade of grass between his palms. That would have been a miracle. But, instead, Nayudamma had to leave.

As regards his acts of charity, there are innumerable people in the country who engage in such acts to avoid undue attention focussed on their ill-gotten wealth. Accounting of his enormous wealth has never been transparent.

Sai Baba’s unusual accomplishment was to recruit such a large number of the rich and the powerful, politicians and bureaucrats, law-makers, law-keepers, and law dispensers, amongst his followers. Perhaps this is more of a reflection on his followers than him!

Sai Baba’s death was not a national tragedy. The national tragedy was his being given a state funeral, a state of official mourning being declared, and the country’s political leaders — cutting across parties, including the Prime Minister and the Chairman of the NAC — spending precious time and resources to have his last darshan, relegating to the background the nation’s constitutional commitment to a scientific temper.

The above article expressed a degree of skepticism seldom seen so widely in India. The facts of the matter have been investigated most thoroughly by former followers of professional standing who became disillusioned, as well as numbers of psychologists, sex abuse consultants, criminologists, social researchers, comparative religionist academics, philosophers and diverse other professionals from many countries – of course including many journalists and several world-class TV documentary makers. Their overall results bear out P.M. Bhargava in the main. Of course, the various investigators have come to somewhat different results on various claims and details and some more prominent issues as their basis and facilities for research will have differed in each case. The great difficulties of researching the controlling bodies and individuals in such clandestine inner circles of this guru cult are well-known and have been documented by independent but largely non-critical researchers, such as Tulasi Srinivas (in her work ‘Winged Faith’). Sathya Sai Baba on record

Posted by robertpriddy on May 14, 2011

“BETRAYAL” By SAI BABA – a clearly well-informed report posted anonymously by a former student of Sathya Sai Baba’s college system and presented by Basava Premanand, a foremost ex-follower and skeptic who investigated Sathya Sai Baba through decades. This testimony has been published here and there before, yet it contains such important information that it deserves reposting. Note, however,  that most exposé  writers reject all ideas of the existence of demons or Satan.

Firstly, a note on the reliability of testimony and reasons for anonymity:

Most of the allegations that have been levied at Sathya Sai Baba by alleging victims of sexual abuse are written statements open to a considerable degree of factual checking of details given by persons who have been contacted by writing, phoning and personal meetings. Some have also given filmed interviews. Accounts of sexual abuse are obviously second-hand (unless one was personally involved). This, of course, does not mean that such accounts are ‘rumours’, as they are called by those who want excuses for not considering them. There can be no ‘smoking gun’, no ‘corpse’ in such cases. The facts can very seldom be proven by physical evidence such as forensic data, audio, visual recordings etc. – and then mostly only in quite exceptional circumstances. Therefore, no one can fairly assume that reports from people – whether first-hand victims or at second-hand via a friend etc. – are baseless. Unconfirmed assertions are the unavoidable first step in uncovering nearly all sexual abuse. The huge obstacles faced by its victims individually – whether personal, social, financial or a combination of these – are by now well-known and in addition to all that comes the emotional upheaval and threats to stop the victims from telling. Increasing worldwide experience shows that the road to conviction and imprisonment of abusers is exceptionally long and relatively very few paedophiles are brought that far anyhow. It almost always must begin with allegations coming into the public sphere (often indirectly or anonymously so as to protect the victims).

Not only were four students executed by the police in 1993 with the consent of the Prashanthi Nilayam authorities in Sai Baba’s bedroom apartment, but many remain in danger of being discriminated, harassed, persecuted, attacked or worse by the original perpetrators of abuses they have suffered (or by others who are complicit in such abuse, such as in a ‘paedophile circle’). This applies to a high degree in India where Sathya Sai Baba has demonstrated to the full that he exercises virtual control of the judiciary and government on all matters concerning his own reputation. Various anonymous Indian ex-students have mailed exposé workers and our websites, or have posted on bulletin boards, that their careers, their families and sometimes even the lives of any who were to stand forth with full name in public would be in jeopardy. Quite apart from this, it can take many years – up to decades – for victims to come to terms with their experiences, while it is highly likely that many never do so enough to speak out. For it requires a robust personality to take the criticism, suspicions and threats which are so often met, including the ever-present likelihood of lurid and inaccurate ‘tabloid media’ coverage. The name of the author of the following account is therefore not given here:-

This is the sad story of betrayal of faith and love, of taking advantage and exploitation of a very base nature. What is being written may sound blasphemy, sacrilege or fanciful, but if one opens his eyes and uses his brain, it will turn out to be nothing but truth. It is a truth which many know and ignore because it does not affect them in any way, then there are those who know nothing and are innocent.

This is the story of life in Sri Sathya Sai Hostel for Boys. Devoted parent send their tiny tots with the firm belief that they will undergo all round developments and will be under the direct presence of Baba Ji. But few parents actually know what happens to their loved ones. What happens to boys is a saga of betrayal of the most banal kind known to mankind since ages. Let us take it from the Primary school level itself. The Principal of the Primary school Mrs. Munni Kaul knows it only too well that her survival there purely depends on sending in the front good-looking, usually fair and sometimes girlish boys, because as is well known Baba Ji has a weakness for such boys. These are the innocent boys you see, who are forced to come in the front, on some pretext or the other, holding cards, trays etc. This in itself is nothing serious, but what follow later is.

These young, good-looking boys who are generally not even in their teens are for some time closely watched by Babaji. Later some day these small boys are called for personal interview. What happens to these tiny tots in the interview room is known to many but all keep mum because their very survival depends on it. These small boys are taken one by one in the inner interview room behind the curtain by Babaji. For some time he fondles them and then suddenly he opens their zippers and pulls down their pants and underpants. Now Babaji massages and fondles the sex organs of the small boys, who know nothing and take it as some form of spirituality. Babaji generally hugs and kisses the boys while they are stark naked, then sends them back. This is in itself a traumatic and sickening experience for a boy of about 5th of 6th standard. Then there are certain advantages too, these boys are labelled as FORM BOYS and are kept in the forefront by the Headmistress, who actually is well aware of the fate of these young ones. These boys generally get chains, rings and watches from Babaji as special blessings or in a worldly sense, the ‘payment’ for ‘selling’ their bodies without their knowledge.

For the kind information of authorities (those who are aware and maintain silence and those who know nothing), Mrs. Munni Kaul, the Head Mistress of Primary School, herself is a confirmed child molestress. This can be ascertained by Authorities (if they have the will and courage), if they could pick just a few good looking (and fair) boys from class 6th and ask them with love and in confidence, what Munni Aunti forces them to do. She is known to sexually abuse good looking boys and girls. Staff members can easily get this information But then one cannot blame the Head Mistress because her survival depends on her supplying these boys for Babaji.

Now comes the second and other part of this story. All this does not stop at Primary School. Now the boys come to Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School. Now the boys are in 8th class. Some teachers in the hostel are well aware what the full set-up is about. They keep an eye for good looking and fair skinned young boys and repeatedly send them in the front of the mandir on some pretext or the other till the boys catch the attention of Babaji. Again the same vicious and revolting scenes are repeated. The teacher who sends these innocent kids up to 12th class, gets a pat on his back from Babaji, for his ‘choice’. These boys also experience the same traumatic situation of standing naked in the inner interview room and getting their sex organs caressed by Babaji, who tells them this is pure love. The innocent boys keep their mouth shut and in turn receive such rewards as a room leadership, watches, pens etc. One of the senior school teachers who has been ‘supplying’ such young boys to Babaji, is well aware that what happens to boys is nothing short of sexual molestation but keeps quiet about the whole affair as he personally has nothing to loose, after all, his relatives are not getting molested. In fact this senior teacher acts as a pimp and acknowledge his role by calling himself as a Tetra-Pack Supplier to Babaji, Tetra Packs being the innocent good looking boys. This lecturer is no one also but Mr. Sai Surendranath who has sent countless young boys towards the cauldron for sexual molestation by Babaji, and he in turn gets power, recognition and the so called ‘Chances’ etc., for his dirty role.

Most of the inmates of Sri Sathya Sai Hostel are well aware of all this, but their mouths are sealed. The boys who are not so good looking and dark wonder why Babaji gives ‘chances’ to good/girlish looking or handsome and fair boys only. They think and think and loose interest in life in the Hostel. On the other hand the Chosen ‘Form’ boys only know what happens inside the interview room, they have their own traumatic experiences and generally tend to develop a Homosexual bend of mind. This is the main reason for rampant cases of Homosexuality in Sathya Sai Hostels.

Now comes the final stage in this story. Boys finish their 12th class. Most of the sexually molested ‘Form’ boys who have become moral and physical (and physiological) wrecks, leave the institutions. This is the main reason why boys from secondary school do not join the Institute. Those who are dark & not-so-good looking, think they did not get chances, get frustrated and leave; and those selected few blue eyed good looking, fair skinned boys who are regularly sexually molested by Babaji, leave due to trauma and frustration. But a third category of boys who are of both the above mentioned categories stay back. Some think maybe they will get chances in future and the good looking ones believe that when Babaji molested them it was for their own good and was a spiritual experience not to be told to anybody.

For the admission to the Institute, as is well known, the so-called ‘Form’ boys and good looking boys are always given preference, irrespective of their academic or intellectual abilities. Everybody knows that the entrance exams and interviews, group discussions etc. are just a farce. A list of so called ‘Form’ boys is selected even before the entrance exams are conducted – this is common knowledge. And for courses like MBA, Research etc., generally boys are selected more for their appearance by Babaji than for anything else. These boys are the very same good looking, fair and sometimes girlish boys. In addition some stupid common boys also get in by freak of chance.

The fact is so well known that senior hostel lecturers know well in advance about a particular student, whether he will get the MBA seat or not. What happens inside interview room is common… knowledge, this is highlighted by the fact that Mr. B.N. Narasimhamurthy, the previous warden of Sri Sathya Sai Hostel, Prasanthinilayam, has coined a term for boys who are surviving an benefitting because of their appearance and because they have been molested. He calls these boys INTUITION BOYS, the term is familiar to most of the hostel staff members and some senior students too. It is a well know fact that seats like MBA, Research Assistantship etc., are almost always (with a few exceptions) given to those Internal candidates who are Intuition Boys (to quote Sri Narasimhamurthy!). These are the boys you see in MBA/Research, who are generally handsome or good looking or girlish who have been sometime exploited and sexually molested by Babaji repeatedly from sometimes their school days onwards.

If all this would have stopped just here, it could have taken lightly (:), but unfortunately it is not so. There are more advanced stages. Babaji has a weakness for boys who are either fair and good looking and girlish or sometimes tall cacho type boys too. This is a common trait in homosexual acts. Out of the chosen band of Intuition Boys (Form boys etc.), some especially good looking/girlish boys and sometimes others are selected by Babaji for special ‘grace’.

This is what happens to them; Babaji who had groomed and molested such a boy from school days telling the boy that he was his father and mother; now starts saying that the boy was his ‘wife’. Now starts the more traumatic, dirty and bizzare acts. Babaji sends for such chosen Intuition Boys special messages to the hostel (to warden etc.) early in the morning usually, when rest of the ignorant lot is faithfully observing silence, listening to extolling speeches or chanting the glory of the lord. Sometimes car/jeep are also sent to whisk away such special Intuition Boys. These boys are taken in for an interview. As usual their pants and underwear are pulled down, but generally these boys have reached puberty and in most cases after little caressing by Babaji, they get an erection and ejaculate, which is wiped by Babaji using the same white kerchief, he used to wipe his hands. Now he again hugs, crushes and kisses the boys and says that the boy is his wife. Usually the boys is too shocked and was-struck at what happened, because he never expected it. Usually the poor boys take it as a spiritual experience.

But unfortunately there is a final stage too. Sometimes Babaji goes a step further in this act. Sometimes he asks the special Intuition Boys, who are standing stark naked and probably with an erection, to bend and touch his feet, while the unfortunate and flabbergasted boy is doing so, Babaji covers the boys head with his robe and while the boy rises up, lifts his pitambar. The boy gets a shock when he sees that Babaji too has an erection Babaji thrusts his erect sexual organ in the poor boys mouth and asks the boy to suck and lick it and forces the boy to do so. Finally the boy is forced to suck and drink the ejaculated semen of Babaji. Usually, with such advanced cases of Intuition Boys (many are the famous singers, tabla players, dancers and other usually girlish characters), Babaji also licks and sucks the sexual organs of such boys. Imagine all this happens just behind the thick curtain of the inner interview room. Babaji usually pushes boys in the left corner of the inner room, just near the door, and from the outer interview room, one can clearly hear the sound of a pant zipper being opened and sometimes kissing and rarely sucking noises too. At such times if one sits just near Babaji’s throne in the outer room, one can sometimes actually see boys being molested if the curtain moves. And people like Mr. B.N. Narasimhamurthy have actually seen boys being molested with their own eyes, but keep mum, for their own selfish survival, branding this dirty act as spirituality. After all such people don’t loose anything, they just act as pimps, supplying fresh batch of Intuition Boys (in other words Male Prostitutes), anyway, these innocent boys are not related to them in any case. The result is that usually these boys become Homosexuals themselves after being molested from a young age and after experiencing the worst form of oral homosexual acts. Now one such boy is Mr. Sai Giridhar who recently shot into limelight by sexually abusing about 40 small school boys in the hostel. But unfortunately (or fortunately for Mr. Sai Giridhar), most of the boys he molested were already sexually molested Intuition Boys of Babaji such as Sai Ram (class X), Hidayat Ulah (class IX) etc. Moreover Mr. Sai Giridhar himself has been an Intuition Boy (one of the blue eyed boys of Mr. B.N. Narahimhamurthy too!) of some repute, so he was neither thrown out of the hostel nor from the Intiution Band, which incidentally is also known as Intuition Band as most of the boys are Intuition Boys earlier selected by Sri B.N. Narasimhamurthy & Sri Sai Surendranath and later by its questionable leader Mr. Sai Giridhar). As is well know, there were lots of grumblings but the entire case was burried and Mr. Sai Giridhar was ‘pardoned’ by Babaji, may be the small Intuition Boys were liability or whatever the case may have been. In fact, most of the hostel lecturers know that their survival depends on projecting and pushing as many Intuition Boys, as possible. These lecturers, therefore take these poor boys who are nothing other than male prostitutes by now, and push them in front of Babaji for various dances, dramas, music groups etc., where these poor boys play a prominent role, attract the attention of Babaji and are sexually molested repeatedly. In some cases Babaji himself asks for special Intuition Boys to be always in the forefront of various programmes. The poor boys so called chances purely depend on how easily he sells his body to Babaji by pulling down his pants and exposing his genitals and how frequently he does it.

If any particular Intuition Boy refuses or pulls away Babaji’s hands from his genitals, Babaji gives that particular boy a cold treatment or the so called ‘OUT OF FORM’. If the boy agrees to open his pants, he easily comes back in form and is “pardoned” or he may even loose his MBA/Research seat and is branded as a Bad/Anti boy and is usually expelled from the Institute/Hostel. Boys who have earlier been Intuition Boys and have refused to be further molested by Babaji are always ignored and put down in all areas till they soften up and in many cases they get frustrated and leave or are ready for a series of new molestations.

Frequently Babaji organizes trips to Kodaikanal and Ooty etc. These trips each year are actually meant for a few selected Intuition Boys who are generally handsome, fair or girlish. To cover up the entire trip some other boys/staff members are also taken who are not Intuition Boys. The selection is generally made by Babaji in consultation with Sai Surendra Nath or Ratnakar. These people keep an eye on exceptionally good looking new boys or old Intuition Boys from various classes such as MBA, PG and Research etc. But actually the entire trip is meant for Babaji to enjoy just a few special Intuition Boys. Babaji call such boys in his car and while travelling also molests them. Sometimes he caresses Intuition Boys while travelling in the bus too. But Babaji makes it a point t sit next to the chosen Intuition Boy only, and while others are listening to high metaphysics, Babaji’s deft hands always are on the poor Intuition Boys crotch and he is busy caressing the boys genitals. Most of the boys in the trip know this while some are ignorant too. (Click on the image for a movie.)

It is common knowledge and those of you who are Intuition Boys know only too well, that Babaji always tells the boys after sexually molesting him “Don’t tell this to anybody”. So the poor boy keeps his mouth shut out of of fear and shame and cannot even tell it to his parents. Babaji always instructs boys not to be very close and jealously guards the Intuition Boys not to mix with the other ordinary/dark and unhandsome lot; Babaji does not even permit friendship between tow Intuition Boys and personally taunts boys and sometimes even throws away such boys. The sole reason being secrecy, because if Intuition Boys were to become friendly, Babaji is scared that his secret of sexual molestation will come out in the open. But the fact is that at least 50% of the Institute Boys are aware what happens in the inner interview room. Most of the poor Intuition Boys are nothing but male prostitutes and thus the hostels can be nothing but houses of ill repute where these poor souls are kept for the sole purpose of using their bodies. This is the main reason why Babaji gives no importance only to the appearance and skin colour of poor boys – a very dirty type of Apartheid. Once Babaji is satisfied or fed up with some Intuition Boy, the poor wretch is thrown out if he has become too big for his boots or he is frustrated b Babaji and also by Authorities who harass the poor boy at the instance and orders of Babaji. Generally the poor Intuition Boy quits, a physical and moral wreck, a social misfit because if not physically, at least mentally he is a homosexual or a gay.

The main reason why boys (both normal and Intuition Boys), do not like to continue longer in Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning is that either they are sexually molested by Babaji and thus frustrated with a male prostitute’s life or they were always ignored because perhaps they refused to open their pants to Babaji or were quite unhandsome/dark complexioned etc., and hence not only ignored by Babaji but were automatically ignored by Authorities too. At least, some Authorities are aware that boys are sexually molested by Babaji, but either they think it is some form of spirituality (:) or they just keep their mouth shut for their survival and for the sake of power and and pomp they get by acting ignorant about the fate of poor boys who are forcibly being converted into Homosexuals. Most of the senior boys in the hostel are aware of this high treason and hypocrisy, they tolerate it for some time and then quit. The topic is so delicate that they can neither tell it to Authorities (who will not believe them in any case) nor even to their parents. These frustrated boys (and Intuition Boys) leave the Institute and Babaji has just one comment. He catches a bunch of his hair which incidentally is regularly dyed with an imported dye and says “I have seen so many, none stay”. After all which normal human being can perpetually stay as a male prostitute or a Homosexual unless he is real a Homosexual, some of these find it profitable and do stay back (example: Sai Giridhar Narahari, etc.), but in due course even hard core homosexuals cannot take the realities for too long and say quits. Now Babaji’s comments “Pelli Pichhi” or “Marriage Sickness”. Hence the full matter is conveniently buried. The Intuition Boys are used and when have no charms left in them, are thrown out (always with a bad name) and their departure is linked with Marriage Sickness. Of course any normal human being marries. Babaji is strictly against marriage, after all his enormous and monstrous sexual demands are daily fulfilled by molestation, sodomy, oral sex and by masturbation of poor Intuition Boys, but how long can a human being take all this. This after using up a boy Babaji throws him out like a spider throws the empty shell of a fly after sucking its vatal juices (Manish Sharma, Anand Sur, Hidesh Gupta, Gagan Manchanda etc., are classic examples of used and thrown Intuition Boys – such boys are so frustrated that sometimes due to their Gay/Homosexual tendencies they are ‘social misfits’ and hence again come back to Babaji who may again get “interested” in the poor by and thus the series of sexual acts start a fresh).

Generally Babaji gives some money (usually Rs.500/-) to an Intuition Boy after molesting him-this can be taken as the amount for buying the body of the poor soul. Usually Babaji blesses Intuition boys with flashy watches, golden pens, gold chains and pendants, rings, bracelets etc. which are the ‘payments’ for the dirty Homosexual violations he does with such boys. Usually the number of such ‘gifts’ are indicators of the degree of sexual connection the boy has with Babaji, it can be mere caressing of genitals. Masturbation sodomy or dirty oral sex. These are the smart good looking boys who always sit in the front rows in the mandir sometimes on Babaji’s express command, because they might be ‘needed’ any time. These are the boys almost selected for distribution of various trinkets and clothes etc., by Babaji, and even when they go inside to pick up a box of apples for instance, sometimes Babaji corners some special Intuition Boy and has a ‘quickie’ (a quick caressing of genitals), while others are kept busy elsewhere or sent out of the interview room on some pretext. So, those who are Intuition Boys can understand and those who are not, need not unnecessarily be envious of these poor Intuition Boys, because they pay a heavy price to be in form, they are actually made prostitutes and are forced to sell their bodies to Babaji.

If you are a little observant and not blind with emotion and pseudo-spirituality, you cam make a few simple observations. Lets take the creation of Vibhuti. Most of the seniour hostel teachers know about how it is done but keep mum. As soon as Babaji comes out keep observing his left hand, it will be closed. In the hand are about 5-6 small balls of vibhuti which are made with the help of water or a mild gum and dried. This is done by Babaji personally upstairs. As soon as Babaji comes out of the interview room, immediately he takes a letter and holds it in the left hand which is now kept upwards, hence the balls do not fall. Now while talking he deftly shifts one ball to the right hand, faces the palm down and rotates the palm, the vibhuti ball is always kept between the 1st and the 2nd fingers; while giving the vibhuti he simply crushes the ball and gives it to the waiting Birthday Boy. Some students have actually found these vibhuti balls which fell down accidentally from Babaji’s hands. People like Mr. Khayaldas are well aware of how vibhuti is created and by experience they even know when and where Babaji will do so. Another place to observe is in front of Vinayaka, near the arch, just between the ladies and gents. Here Babaji almost always passes a bunch of letters to his right hand along with a ball of vibhuti. Experienced boys and old hostel staff members have dubbed his acts as “Changing the baton”. Now Babaji immediately ‘creates’ vibhuti for some VIP’s who are sitting there, this is very significant because a large number of people observe this ‘miracle’. You too can observe all this if you sit with a level head and sharp eyes and notice Babaji’s hand movements closely. Sometimes if you are lucky you can actually see the vibhuti ball being transferred to the right hand for creation. Creations inside the interview room are of different type. If you are sharp you would have noticed that Babaji does not allow anybody in the interview room immediately after selecting a particular batch. He goes inside alone and spends some time before calling the group. If by chance some ignorant person happens to go in following Babaji, he is invariably almost literally pushed out by Babaji or pulled out by the obese Mr. Khayaldas, who knows what Babaji is doing inside. Actually Babaji spends a few minutes in keeping the things to be “materialized” ready; these are kept in various places, behind cushion, sometimes behind the curtain or on window sills of inner room or the sofa etc. These items such as chains, rings, lockets, Talismans, even sweets and watches are later picked up and ‘created’ with a motion of hand in front of preconditioned and almost awe-struck and hypnotized devotees.

Those flashy golden Parker pens and Papermates which you see in the pockets of Intuition Boys are kept in neatly stacked boxes in upstairs rooms of mandir. If you are an Intuition Boy you may as well find same if you are chosen to work upstairs’, if you are observant, not emotional. The watches are made by normal human beings from all over the world. These watches too are kept in their hundreds in upstairs rooms. These are usually presented in bulk by wealthy devotees. Lockets, rings etc. are made of various types and sizes and these are generally supplied by two people, one is Chettiar’s (the fat man from Madurai on Wheelchair) son-in-law, and the other is a dark, balding furitive looking man with specks, always tucking a small bag in his right armpit, he is Mr. Aswathnarayana from Ananatapur.

Babaji has recently started ‘creating’ a lot of Titan quartz watches, but unfortunately (or fortunately) these are manufactured in Bangalore. All Titan watches have a registered number at the back, using this number if you go to the regional office of Titan company to Bangalore, you can easily trace to which retailer it was supplied. Some titan watches have been traced in this manner and the names of people who purchased them in bulk (bulk purchases are always remembered by shop keepers) for Babaji may surprise you. But of course, this simple investigation can be done by anybody who can read the English language and is little patient with the Titan sales office.

There are certain instances of Babaji having some connections with ladies and young girls too. Perhaps this explains those crazy foreign ladies who are not allowed inside and are sometimes beaten up. May be this also explains the bodies of mostly young women which are found in the hills and also the bodies of young women which are sometimes carried in the green jeep at unearthly hours and are either burnt near Chitravathi or buried near it. One wonders how safe one’s sisters and daughters studying in Primary school are?

So this in brief is the true life of any student residing in Sri Sathya Sai Hostel. Those of you who are Intuition Boys, already know all this, those who are not would have heard of it and some may not have even dreamt of all this. But this is the stark truth, which is really bitter. Being an Intuition Boy is shameful in itself because it is the life of a slave or male prostitute, although it carries several ‘perks’ and incentives like name, fame, lime-light an jaunts to Kodaikanal etc., perhaps this time by plane! But in the end the poor Intuition Boy is left high and dry (in literal sense) and generally gets frustrated, looses interest in life or becomes a homosexual. It is for youth to decide. One thing is sure, this is no form of spirituality, see the faces of Intuition Boys, those fair and girlish boys (Dante’, class 9th) with black rounds around their eyes, see the faces of boys who are forced to drink semen to get an MBA seat or a room leadership etc. And see who gets the best all-rounder gold medal. Incidentally Mr. Sai Giridhar is also a gold medalist, (an ‘all rounder’ indeed!) with about 40 or so sexual abuse of small innocent boys to his credit. These gold medals are almost always given to Intuition Boys, with a few exception the reason will be quite obvious if one has a look at the individual.

Homosexuality can never be equated with any form of spirituality and what Babaji is practising on young and innocent boys is nothing but a blatant homosexual act. No religion of the world promotes homosexuality. There is no mention of it in vedas. And Babaji is definitely not a Brahmachari because he destroys the very essence of Brahmacharya in innocent boys of such tender age who have not even reached puberty. This is also no way to project spirituality and talk about not marrying. This a simple and dirty technique by Babaji to satiate his sexual urge (which appears monstrous and insatiable because sometimes he calls 3 or 4 Intuitions for “personal interviews”). Neither Lord Rama, Krishna nor Jesus was a homosexual. An avatar can definitely not be a Homosexual. Otherwise Babaji should practise this special grace with all males or all hostel students, WHY only with handsome, fair skinned, tall or girlish looking boys, why NOT with the less smart dark-skinned ones? This itself shows that he is crazy after looks and wants to molest only such individuals. He does the same with most of the smart foreigners too, one latest one is being lampooned as “shyama”, a tall, smart looking German with long curly blond hair and homosexual looks and tendencies. One look at his face will tell you what happens to him inside the inner interview room. In Bible only one individual is supposed to love homosexuality – The Satan or the anti-christ. It is for you to decide, especially those who are Intuition Boys, whether after coming in the fold of Babaji, you have learnt any spirituality or only outward show and hypocrisy of the worst order. You should introspect whether you have strengthened or lost faith in God. It is common-sense that when Satan appears, he will never proclaim himself as Satan he will only ‘act’ as God and confuse and destroy the faith of mankind and cause confusion and mayhem as you see in world today and talk about bringing love, peace and harmony – where are they?

This is the epilogue of this sad story. A story of high treason, betrayal and exploitation. In the name of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher learning, young boys are being frustrated and are sexually molested, their energies wasted. The boys suffer internally, they cannot tell their traumatic experiences to anybody and end up at hollow tombs. If you seen an Intuition Boy next time, treat him well because he is actually suffering inside, be kind to him. Staff members can now understand what are the sufferings of Hostel Boys, why they are not natural and why Intuition Boys cannot concentrate on Academics, because basically they are kept for a dirtier purpose, not for academics at all, which is just an eyewash. In fact the entire Institute and its infrastructure is actually meant for a few Intuition Boys rest is all an eye wash. Even when Babaji calls boys for group interviews, he sees to it that only certain boys sit near his feet while the others are busy listening to high metaphysics and spirituality, Babaji’s deft toes are busy playing with the private parts of the poor boys doing “paadseva”. And the long robe covers everything. Most of the people around know but keep quiet. It should be known that this country is not United States of America where homosexuality is recognised. In India homosexuality is a punishable offense and child molestation too is a bigger offense. If this issue is raised in public the outcry will be stupendous and those involve directly or indirectly will be answerable. This is not meant to destroy your faith in Babaji, this is just an eye opener and reminder that know what you are doing, if you are a normal boy, be happy that you are not an Intuition Boy, if you are an Intuition Boy, get rid of the shameful prefix and lead a normal life, if you are a staff member do something for the boys and their problems, understand them, there is nothing more you can do, if you are an Administrator and not aware of the happenings, its high time you open your eyes; and on the other hand if you are a Senior person of some authority and are aware of the molestation and sexual abuse of young boys and think that it is spirituality, know that you are wrong and God will never pardon you. On the Day of Judgment you will have to pay for your sins, then it will be too late and these very same innocent Intuition Boys will point an accusing finger at YOU, because you helped in destroying their life.

This could have been published in a book or a magazine, but then you would not have got it to read so easily, because it would have been classified as ‘anti material’. So read it and pass it on to a friend in whom you have absolute confidence and who will not betray you. Do believe in God, he will protect you, and THINK and OBSERVE.

Sathya Sai Central Trust decisions on its leadership

Posted by robertpriddy on May 13, 2011

Latest news:- Those who run the Sathya Sai Central Trust now have decided that the power of cheque signing will devolve on three trustees, the nephew of Sathya Sai Baba, and two others. Meanwhile, P.N. Bhagwati was made Vice-Chancellor of the Sathya Sai College and Satyajit – considered a front runner for top office by the media – has withdrawn from the fray and gone to Mumbai to be an ‘ordinary devotee’.

The Times of India posted an unclear typo-ridden article (see on right). The untrustworthy and corrupt P.N. Bhagwati (read all about him!)  holds the first temporary, rotating chairmanship. In a new development which would be hilarious were it not such a serious matter of clandestine manoeuvres behind closed doors. Under him, the Trust decided on a gimmick that is almost childishly naive, to name Sathya Sai Baba the “Permanent Chairman” of the Trust. The idea is of course that the widely accused sexual abuser and accomplice to cold-blooded executions is living in an eternal realm and steering everything from there as the ‘eternal charioteer’ he proclaimed himself.  No doubt the washing of money outside all accountability with continued complete tax, duty and excise exemption and non-reporting will go on in a celestial fashion, with P.N. Bhagwati receiving inner directions from Swami! Anyone who donates to this ‘corrupt body’ will be most foolish, even though some of the money is used to keep the private hospitals and questionable schools and colleges running.

One can hope that the recent Wikileaks report on Indian nationals as those having the biggest overall deposits in Swiss banks, will follow up and eventually release the full names of all those countless corrupt Indian exploiters of their countrymen with those accounts, giving the amounts involved in each case. One can quite confidently expect many names associated with Sathya Sai Baba to pop up in that event! This disaster for the Indian elite has apparently been anticipated by authorities who have instituted methods of face-saving and vastly reduced loss. The Economic Times of India reports at length under the title “Black money: Legitimise it by paying 15% tax, park it in India” Here is a short excerpt:- “There’s some delightful news for those with Swiss bank accounts. Indians , who opted for such numbered account service, have a way to mislead anyone trying to hunt them down. For them, a new window in the tax law has flung open just when some of the doors are about to shut. The law of the land has made it possible for them to bring back the money , legitimise it by paying 15% tax, and park it in any account with a bank in India. No questions will be asked. The taxman won’t harass them because it’s money on which tax has been paid.”

The Milli Gazette has published a damning account about India’s political elite, referring to the latest sensational revelations by Wikileaks. We read: “Wikileaks now tell us, for the canny reason that India’s “mainstream” power wielders/brokers reserve truth-sharing not for the people of India but for the American Embassy. There is the intimate zone where they bare their hearts out.” Wikileaks opens India’s dirty Pandora Box. This bears out yet again what I and my colleagues in the Sathya Sai Baba exposé have been pointing out… the top people are worshippers of Sai Baba, who praised them and condoned their policies, allowing them to visit him and get public blessings. Have no illusions about all those involved!

Phyllis Krystal: Sathya Sai Baba believer

Posted by robertpriddy on May 12, 2011

Phyllis Krystal is a long-standing US devotee of Sathya Sai Baba.  I have met her in Prashanthi Nilayam, as an interview with Sai Baba, again later in London, UK – and also heard her holding forth at a Sai Baba Conference in Hamburg (1992).

She is a proponent of the simplification of spiritual teachings, as her own statement makes ‘krystal clear’:-

Many devotees have been asking me to offer a message to help during this time of deep concern over the present serious physical condition that Baba is undergoing. I have hesitated until now to add to the many messages being circulated around the world, however, I am now feeling an urgency to do so. Baba has taught us repeatedly to “keep it simple“, so that even a child can understand. Let us therefore practise what He Himself has been teaching us for so many years …

As I shall point out further, her books on ‘cutting ties that bind’ and other such Sai Baba-dictated panaceas are often superficial and simplistic. Krystal’s cue in this case is the premature death under very suspicious circumstances and due to being disconnected from his life-support which held the body alive but not his consciousness, unlike any known revered Indian spiritual figure, yogi or supposed ‘realised’ soul. The simple message is “We are not the body”. Rather amusing, really, since no one can prove that we have “eternal spirits” or that our supposed shared divinity in unimaginable realms that no one can describe frees our reputations from anything “we” did in the body…  such as widely reported, in Sai Baba’s case, major predatory sex abuse and pedophilia. Phyllis Krystal replied – after the 1999 storm broke – to a questioner about those accusations on the lines that “Either you believe he is God or not.” If the former – as she holds – then he could never be held to account for anything he chose to do as it was for the ultimate good! This is the kernel of Sathya Sai Baba defenders’  reasoning… not exactly plausible, not morally defensible, nor in any way based on any provable facts… hence, irrational belief (which itself requires psychological and other kinds of explanations).

In her hagiographic book with the excessive title: ‘The Ultimate Experience’ – publ. Samuel Weiser Inc ) she relates how Sathya Sai Baba had told her she was suffering not from one headache, but five headaches’. She had written there that she went some kind of intensification of her symptoms while with Sathya Sai Baba, which she interpreted as being a part of the treatment.

She was a speaker at the Sathya Sai Hamburg Conference in 1992 and was asked point blank from the audience whether Sathya Sai Baba had now cured her of all her crashing headaches. She hesitated for a bit, then said that he had. However, when later visiting Lucas Ralli and his wife with my wife at their home in Bayswayer, London, he came to mention that she was in constant need of pain killers for her headaches and I was taken aback. He was the Central Coordinator of the Sathya Sai Organization for UK & Ireland until he was unceremoniously kicked out for speaking his mind, but a close friend of Mrs. Krystal, who stayed with him sometime during UK visits.  So I asked if she had not been cured, but he confirmed that she still suffered greatly from this. This incident – many years after her supposed healing by Sai Baba and long after the Hamburg Conference. To dissemble and lie outright to defend her guru-God shows how even privileged devotees fear to tell negative facts that might raise doubts in listeners’ minds!  Lucas Ralli and his wife were close to her and they assured me that she was still taking large doses of pain killers for her headaches. This incident is a telling example, to be afraid to tell a Sai devotee public that he had not been able to cure her as he had promised. This kind of deceit is frequent among Sai followers as I learned from 18 years as a leader to whom many would apply for advice etc.

Phyllis Krystal

There is no use in putting questions to such a person as Phyllis Krystal, she has pat answers to almost everything – the Sai Baba parrot phenomenon again – all developed through her doubtful and often most ‘testing’ experiences with Sai Baba and his devotees. When I heard Mrs. Krystal speak in London (as a Ralli-organised meeting), she said during her replies to questions that ‘Swami sometimes answers through me’, which immediately made me suspicious, because of the way in which she said it and the context etc. My immediate reaction to her was that I was struck by the patent falsity of her very controlled voice (but with a recognisable British whine under the gushing US patina), and her general kind of self-projection… I think someone whose life was virtually empty but for talking and writing and being admired as a Sai devotee supreme. Apropos, her host, Lucas, was an ‘officially-recognised’ channel for Sai Baba, his ‘Messages for You and Me’ in five volumes were accredited by Sathya Sai Baba in an interview (it was claimed)! I can well imagine that there was some competition mentality with Lucas there… not least because Shah had tried to cut her out of the Sai movement, warning all Org. leaders that she was not (and still is not) a member of the Sai Org., but Lucas was then the UK President (later Central Coordinator for UK). She fitted into the Ralli/Peggy Mason/Ron Laing circle because of all the mediumistic stuff they all loved (messages from the dead, ghosts, angels etc.) and she produced some fantastic fancies herself – about being shown by the Lord how Russia was under the darkest cloud on earth etc. and suchlike. Rather the kind of dreams that so many Sai Baba followers take quite literally (i.e. not least by the hagiographer Rita Bruce with her ‘message from Swami’ of the destruction of the US by germ warfare and earthquakes etc. as reported in her first book). All these people are prime exponents of spiritual doublethink and what might be called self-hypnosis.

Another example at the Bayswater meeting: After her set piece, Krystal offered to field questions. One question from the rear of the hall put by a young Englishman was whether Sai Baba accepts homosexuals or disapproves of homosexuality. Phyllis Krystal took her time and then claimed she felt she had received a reply from Swami himself, something she sometimes strongly intuits is the case. The answer was that he loves everyone and therefore does not exclude homosexuals… that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality. This claim to be a channel for Sathya Sai Baba has been constantly made by hundreds – if not thousands – of devotees, including the host of the meeting, Lucas Ralli, who got published several books of his own “Messages from Sai Baba” books. However, Phyllis Krystal either did not know or had forgotten that Sai Baba has condemned homosexuality in no uncertain terms! It is obvious to many of us why he did so…

Further, Dutch Matthijs van der Meer talked with Mrs Krystal about the sexual abuse matter. He wrote about his meeting with her in his article in Spiegelbeeld October 2000, in which he testified to having been subjected involuntarily to ‘oiling’ by SB himself, and he related how Keith Ord had told him how Ord’s friend Michael Pender was forced into oral sex by Sai Baba and later took his own life in the UK. Van der Meer had visited Lucas Ralli and talked with him about his own, Ord’s and Pender’s experiences, years before the The Findings exposé appeared, with no satisfying results, so Van der Meer investigated further as follows:

“It just seemed too atrocious to be possibly true. Meanwhile many months had elapsed since I had begun to turn myself to whichever Sai author into whose hands I could manage to place a letter… – …When in May ’96 Sandweiss visited the Netherlands I took the opportunity to personally thrust a copy of my former letter into his hands. But still he wouldn’t answer. Yet the trouble was not taken in vain. Some people from the organisation spotted my action, and as if by the grace of Baba in October ’96 a meeting with the then 81-year old Phyllis Krystal was arranged for me. She affirmed to both Baba’s intimidations and the cover-up of it by the organisation. With the proviso that she refrained from drawing any conclusions. It could be sensed how she groped for clues with regard to the divine explanation for which I myself had once been looking so hard as well. And so I contended that all things considered, no rational support whatsoever was left for distinguishing Sai Baba from a criminal (for how was one to escape the implication that on the given basis even Hitler and Nero could have been avatars!). “Even if in our hearts we believe Swami”, I argued, “in our behaviour we should doubt Swami because that’s our moral duty in a situation like this.” But even though she admitted to the logic of my ethics, Krystal kept evading to take the consequences of it.While saying goodbye she promised to let me know as soon as any further insights would come about. Yet of the gruesome ‘insights’ to which revelations would give cause in the years to come, she was not to give notice. Even though she hardly could have missed the work by David Bailey, a Sai-VIP from her own circle of acquaintances.”

Comment:- Interesting that she didn’t refute it out of hand. She did have a fairly sophisticated way of dealing with questions, but none the less deluded for all that! Her millionnairess lifestyle fitted badly with the role SB gave her as a lecturer on ‘Ceiling on Desires’ – while in Copenhagen she lived at the very most expensive super-luxury hotel (declining devotees’ invitations to stay)! I was struck by the complete disinterestedness in SB of her husband, even at an interview (where both of them and I were present, in 1987) and at the Hamburg Sai Conference. He looked very much like Oliver Hardy (but with white hair and glasses) and was merely accompanying Phyllis! Rather odd that he remained so unaffected while his wife was a fanatical believer if ever there was one!

Her books are just the kind that I really could not stomach from the word go!  They are amateur pseudo-psychology of the self-help kind, based entirely on her subjective ideas about what people need to do to free themselves from the “ties that bind” them, an Americanised ‘positive thinking’ of the ‘drop your hang-ups’ kind based very much on what Sai Baba says. Its sickly spiritual semantic coating and constant implicit reliance on the quite shallow and always vague and anecdotally-based religious ‘doctrine’ of Sai Baba about personal growth and supposed ‘spiritual development’ towards self-realization and the eternal liberation of moksha or nirvana amount all too readily to a programme for voluntary self-indoctrination. Some people may find some relief through the more intelligent parts, but Krystal fails to strike the balance between reality and fantasy. In a sovereign manner, she side-steps all that has been learned through the last century in countless researches and the fruits of experiences with many forms of psychological therapy worldwide! She presents her ‘cutting ties’ and related inventions as if they were the ultimate answer, all stemming from her supposedly infallible God-guru’s unworldly and impossibly unrealistic and speculative teachings. Though I am not any longer a paid-up believer in Freud, Reich, Adler, Jung and co., I think that – in their many deficiencies – they are less dangerous than the self-denial and refutation of unpleasant experience in the New Age fashion that Krystal purveys. I have come to regard much of the kind of ‘inner work’ she teaches as pseudo-spirituality for impressionable people who are too hung up on a fantasy world and an imagined possible purity of psyche and release from all human suffering, but seldom really productive of authentic self-knowledge or spirituality in everyday life. In my view, Krystal’s failure to keep her promise to update such an anguished person as van der Meer evidently was never even to contact him again. This kind of behaviour is typical of many Sai VIPs and speaks of anti-spiritual disregard of others or even suppressed self-doubt and gutlessness.

Dr. John Hislop wrote in one of his infamous clandestine letters to Sai officials (which he required that all recipients should destroy! But one set of copies did survive: see here). In one of these we read: “Directors Bayer, Goldstein, Krystal and myself have been going over and over the problem as we were talking together this weekend. Let me first say what we are not able to explain. There are two ways for us to respond to these horrible stories about Sri Bhagavan. One is to believe Sri Bhagavan when He says the stories are totally untrue, and the other is to believe the stories. If our decision is to not believe the stories, then the question arises as to what moves so many people to say these false stories. This question we are quite unable to answer.”

This shows how well Phyllis Krystal knew of the sexual abuse revelations very early on and CHOSE not to believe them. No investigations, no duty of care, simply denial. She told some devotees who questioned her that either they believed Sathya Sai Baba is God Incarnate or not. If so, they had to accept that there is no truth in such allegations, and has otherwise implied that there may alternatively be another explanation for those actions. The following was stated by Conny Larsson of the Sathya Sai Organization ‘VIPs’:- “…many of the victims have personally talked by phone to these people, when we tried to understand what was happening with us, but they all told us that this was “Divine” and we had to put up with it. We have talked to leaders as the American leaders dr. Goldstein, Phyllis Krystal, Hal Honig, Jagadeeshan, Gruber, Piculell, Meyer etc. and many, many others. They have all expressed the same opinion “it’s divine”

All one can fairly say, perhaps, is that Phyllis Krystal’s kind of self-deceit is to protect her faith and all that she has invested her life in for decades. This does not condone it, for it covers over a multitude of sins – those of Sathya Sai Baba,  whose promises are supposed to be as cast in iron and whose healing is infallible etc. After her husband1s death, Mrs. Krystal’s house was shattered by the Californian earthquake in the ’90s, making her homeless, along with her deceased huband’s lifelong collection of crystal glass reportedly worth much more than $1 million. (Odd fixation on crystal/Krystal!). As she describes in detail in her book ‘The Ultimate Experience’, Sathya Sai Baba had himself told her to move to that house, after she had prayed constantly for a very long time and repeatedly asked him whether she could move house! Eventually he had given the go-ahead verbally to her. Devotees, in their great wisdom, regard such things as a boon from Sathya Sai Baba! A test on which to grow! It helps one to detach from worldly things and prepare for the final detachment! This reasoning, when taken to its conclusion means it is a boon when anything or anyone is destroyed, relatives are lost etc., because it prepares one for death! All very acceptable and faith-inducing, no doubt!

Phyllis Krystal has written a large number of  books about self-healing, books which have sold very well in the New Age marketplace from which she must have made a lot of money.

Jana Vignana Vedika demonstrates Sai Baba ‘miracles’

Posted by robertpriddy on May 12, 2011

This latest in a long line of exposers of fraudulent “miracles” can be viewed performing most of Sai Baba’s famous ‘miracles’ on Indian TV. The commentary is not in English, but the video is watchable. There have been many who can replicate Sathya Sai Baba miracles, not least Dr. Abraham T. Kovoor, who demonstrated  holy ash or vibuthi “materialization” in front of Sathya Sai Baba and was angrily thrown out of the interview. He did this, of course, to show that it is an easy conjuring trick. Even some of his students have simulated the vibuti manifestation in a joking way (see video clip).

Often followers of Sai Baba have themselves gained a following through claiming to produce the ‘holy ash’ (vibuthi) or other small objects typically and allegedly “materialized” by Sathya Sai Baba, many claiming the power was invested in them by Sathya Sai Baba himself. This has always been strongly denied by Sathya Sai Baba and a considerable number of these have been denounced by special announcements in Sathya Sai Baba’s official journal Sanathana Sarathi through the years.  There was one producer of ash, rings and pendants in Mauritius described at length by R. Lowenberg in his hagiographic writings, and another in Bangalore who gave vibuthi to hundreds of Sai devotees and claimed to have been saved from a large number of heart attacks by Sathya Sai Baba himself. Another person who profits enormously in this way is a Jewish Cockney Stephen Turoff in Southend calling himself ‘Dr. Khan’ (a discarnate spirit guide he ‘channels’) who surrounds himself with Sai symbols and photos – pretends Sai miracles occur there – and who does psychic surgery healing and produces ash etc. The number of these ‘false prophets’ or whatever they claim they are is not small… there are just too many to keep track of.

All who have followed events for the last few decades will know that imitators are many. One example is an impostor in Canada who claims to be an intermediary of Sai Baba, officially denounced in the May 2002 issue of Sanathana Sarathi (p. 161) and further rebutted and warned against in detailed length in May 2003 (inside rear cover).  In Canada, under the name of ‘Ken’ a Japanese Sai Baba devotee who made many fantastic claims about visits from both Shirdi and Parthi Sai Baba in his home (as reported at length by the uncritical  Sai hagiographer R. Lowenberg in one of his early books, probably ‘The Grace of Sai’) . Ken had a room in Puttaparthi where he gave objects or letters to devotees (including Rick Prescott of Sydney) which he said Sai Baba had brought him by walking out of his picture on his private shrine! There was a young boy known as Sai Krishna who caused a stir in southern Indian by apparently materializing “vibuthi“. Dr.Narasimhaiah’s committee exposed Sai Krishna, a 7 year old child-protege of Satya Sai Baba, by pulling out the packet of Vibhuti hidden in Sai Krishna’s underclothes. [Author’s Note: in the Blitz interview, SB denies any connection with that boy, even without giving any proof] […] the committee requested him [Sai Baba] to allow them an investigation. When they visited him, a terrified Satya Sai Baba locked himself up in his Whitefield residence, close to Bangalore. All he could do was spew helpless vitriol at the Narasimhaiah committee.”

What the uninitiated take without questioning to be miracles of fantastic psychic abilities, not least very detailed mind-reading are done by so-called ‘Cold reading’. It  is amazing to people who do not know about it. It has been demonstrated by the famous initiator of neuro-linguistic programming Milton Erickson. The young illusionist Derren Brown is famous throughout UK (and increasingly in the rest of the world) because of his feats of cold reading (plus suggestion, misdirection, magic and psychology). He is able to tell intimate details about people he has never met and within a matter of seconds – and has demonstrated this countless times under the TV cameras (and there is no fraud involved at all, as interviews with his staff, his subjects and himself and those ‘behind the scenes’ proves conclusively).

Derren Brown of UK – videos on YouTube – there are many more on his DVDs and of a very wide variety of what seem to be ‘psychic powers’ but which he explains are not that at all. He is a sceptic as to the spiritual powers, but demonstrates what people believe to be such powers like ‘omniscience’ etc.. This is basic learning and sensible re-programming for all followers of gurus and avatars! He uses neuro-linguistic programming and many other techniques which he partly (but not entirely) explains to everyone. He shows the huge extent to which minds can be instantly manipulated by one who knows how.

Comment on the videos: In many cases people have claimed to have seen Sai Baba change physical appearance totally, even several persons together, but at the same time others have been present who have not seen any change at all. This applies to many accounts of him during public ‘darshan’ – some see haloes, others not and so forth. Now, were these changes (and materializations) real phenomena, then all present would have seen it. Sai Baba does not want anyone to understand his ways, – on the contrary! That is why he has always created a mystery around himself – it began in his early years!

Suggestion can be so powerful as to change people’s states of mind very radically, without more than a few clever words. Derren Brown, for example, can make people picked out of a group on the street or anywhere see and hear things and can find out what they are thinking, exactly what they have on their persons (including written shopping lists in their wallets). He can very quickly induce a state of drunken stupor in a person (showing just how he does it) and turn it on an off with a few words (even words written on a piece or sent by mobile phone message).
Many well-known, respected people and professional psychologists in UK have attested that there is no fraud whatever involve (no fixing of TV sequences or use of stooges). He says openly there are no psychic powers involved, but many techniques he has learned in observing personal psychology, varying means of suggestion, neuro-linguistic programming, misdirection of attention (as in stage ‘magic’ and pick-pocketing, for example) and much else. He explains some of his techniques in detail. He has a tremendous (possibly ‘photographic’) memory too. He has a very wide ‘repertoire’ and much of what he does is more dramatic that Sai Baba is seen to do. But he remains a sceptic about all ’spiritual’ powers, also about mediumism/contacting the dead, which he has reconstructed in a very convincing way, but he explains how and why he is a sceptic. kind of manipulation of perception done by Derren Brown is most impressive and dramatic – and is also intended to be so. My view is exactly the same as to Sathya Sai Baba. He is a showman and manipulator.

Further insight into the secrets of miracle guru fraudsters were discovered at great personal cost by the aspirant to mystical powers, Tahir Shah, who learned many of the secret of illusion from a most difficult ‘master’ of those arts. See  Sathya Sai Baba’s miracles – the veil lifted further

Sathya Sai Baba’s death and inscrutability

Posted by robertpriddy on May 11, 2011

Secrecy and clandestine cover-ups Hardly a single important circumstance concerning the recent health, hospitalization, treatment, or the time and immediate cause of death of Sathya Sai Baba has not been surrounded by secrecy, disinformation and ill-concealed controversy and power struggles between contestants for a role in the multi-billion dollar financed goings-on. This can be seen in a large number of newspaper investigations and statements from involved parties.

Considering the huge controversy about his illness, about the amount of drugs he was taking for such a long period (some say 6 months) and the causes and manner of his decease, there should certainly have been a post mortem with a coroner’s report too, but no such process has been allowed. So far there is no mention anywhere of even a death certificate being issued for Sathya Sai Baba – surely a normal practice which is again being abrogated. Perhaps the most sensitive issue for those involved in the continuing series of cover-ups reaching to high levels of government, is that of the date and circumstances of the ordering of his casket coffin – facts which Sathya Sai Central Trust blue-facedly denies, despite the documentation and full testimony on the extremely suspicious sequence of events being available on TV channels in India. That Sathya Sai Baba allegedly died on Easter Sunday is also suspicious because he was on a life support system which was removed at some point. This removal would have been tantamount to causing death. It was done to coincide with Easter Sunday – i.e. Christ’s supposed ‘resurrection’ day. This look very like an attempt to hang onto those foreign devotees who misguidedly believe that Sathya Sai Baba WAS Christ (including  US Dr. Michael Goldstein – international chairman of the Sathya Sai organization – see him state this very short clip (filesize 260Kb)).

This highly suspicious use of deceit, ‘smoke and mirrors’, is not an unusual state of affairs in the ashrams and institutions of Sathya Sai Baba, which have for decades been most strictly censored and controlled through powerful sanctions ranging from exclusion from the various private colleges, hospitals or Sathya Sai organizations up to and including actual execution by police! Endemic unaccountability is the mark of Sathya Sai Baba himself and of his private fiefdom (Prashanthi Nilayam having long been a township totally under the rule of him and/or his minions). The financial power house built up over the decades, the Sathya Sai Central Trust, is a prime example of a totally unsupervised body which has had complete freedom from import and export duties and taxation, it having not even had to present reports on its transactions to local or central government. It has been openly admitted by Andhra Pradesh authorities that it never has presented any such reports.

Source books for Sathya Sai Baba's warning of 'inscrutability'

How did Sathya Sai Baba manage to avoid serious scrutiny? From the very beginning of his so-called ‘mission’, he had to be protected from ill-wishers in Puttaparthi and other places. Those who formed around him believed him to be a divine personality of some kind, and many already regarded him as a great master of all knowledge and obeyed his wishes, knowing that he could respond most unpleasantly (as Smt. Vijayamma has described at length in her book ‘Refuge other than You I have none‘). Sai Baba was already instilling into everyone that he was beyond human understanding, that one should not try to find out about him but worship and believe instead. He made many pronouncements about his Godlike inscrutability, which served to stop followers from making any judgements about his observable actions (other than to interpret them as ‘beyond our understanding’ and as expressions of love of a depth which we cannot begin to appreciate or figure out! (See inset list of sources).

It was impossible for anyone to barge into his presence even from fairly early days onwards, as he was constantly surrounded by devotees who kept a sharp eye on newcomers and guarded him in various ways. When foreigners began to arrive, the security gradually tightened so that, by 1984 when I arrived at Prashanthi Nilayam, his quarters were carefully guarded and he was isolated from ashramites except during his darshan walkabouts and interviews, or the occasional visit to some inaugurate some new building site within the ashram. Tape recorders were not allowed at interviews and there were many rules restricting those present. In short, he controlled all around him from very early on. By 1987, the darshan compound was encircled by higher walls and no cameras were allowed within, unless specifically permitted by the officials. When, in 1993, the infamous murders and executions took place, the security was suddenly stepped up by many degrees. Use of metal detectors through which all had to pass to get into the daily ritual, stringent body searches (on both men and women) and rejection even of people carrying pens, floppy discs, seating support… anything which could imaginably be used to harm ‘Swami’.  The government provided armed soldiers to be present at all times and a large security office with a team of trained experts and undercover (plainclothes) agents were employed (see here). His ‘mystery doctrine’ has served him very well to keep all examination he did not want away from himself as the one major scandal and crimes around him have come and gone, culminating in the manner of his confinement, nature of his extreme body-wasting illness (AIDS perhaps?), let alone a post mortem examination of his gender attributes (i.e. hemaphroditism). No wonder only his boyfriend and roommate Satyajit decided rigorously over who could examine him in the Intensive Care Unit. (Note: Satyajit found the going so hot that he has withdrawn all claims and retired to Mumbai)

The same clandestine approach is unashamedly applied throughout all Sathya Sai Baba institutions – all schools and colleges, his intensely private hospitals  and not least, the Sathya Sai Organization. Some of the many ways in which this operates can be studied here

The ashram rules are rather draconian, they can be read here – one may see why some have jested that the ashram is  “a concentration camp”

Strong Sai Baba sex abuse testimony from ex-‘form boy’

Posted by robertpriddy on May 10, 2011

Another communication from the Indian ex-student using the pen-name ‘Raman Sharma’ (whose full identity is known to us with certainty but who is in need of continued protection from aggressive Sai Baba devotees). This testimony makes it evident that the extent of Sathya Sai Baba’s reported sexual activities, and his true nature behind ‘the curtains and doors of shame’ is far worse than has generally been recognized.

Hi Conny,
Nice to receive your email. I do hope you are also forwarding them to Robert Priddy. In this email I wish to bring you some of the personal opinion Sai Baba had about preachers of other religions which I have heard him repeat many times to select few form boys (including myself, of course). Many times he did speak these opinions of his personally to us when he or his close servitors sodomized others.

Firstly, Swami was of the firm opinion that Jesus Christ was a homosexual and that he had sex frequently with other twelve disciples or amongst themselves.I have never heard him say anything about the controversy regarding Mary Magdalene as it is difficult for him to accept normal heterosexuality.

Secondly, Sai Baba held the view that lord Krishna had homosexual relations with Arjuna and they were therefore very close friends.

Thirdly, he brings the same associations to Sri Shirdi Sai Baba of whom he professes to be a reincarnation.

Fourthly, according to swami, Sri Aurobindo had sexual relations with Mother of the Aurobindo ashram and when Sai Baba visited them in the 1940s, he took Sri Aurobindo to task for leading such a life.
Similarly, he firmly believed that Swami Vivekananda had sexual relations with sister Nivedita and Yogananda had such relations with Daya Mata. He also blamed Iskon Prabhupada for bringing promiscuity in his kirtans and open mixing of men and women.

Since my eighth standard I had sex with few of his form boys and they all told me that swami called it ‘Love’ and only the “invisible Swami” knows and not the physical swami. I am ashamed of my life then. I always thought that I was a sinner, till my post graduation after becoming a form boy myself. Swami knew of my relations with one or two close form boys.

I remember one elder brother who used to hug me and kiss me a lot when I was in eighth at Parthi. He was very violent while having sex but i developed a feeling of attraction towards him. One day He pulled my organ very hard. It started to bleed and he ran away. I felt like fainting yet, I collected myself and went to Mr. Sooryanarayana, the office accountant and told him that I had fallen down while urinating and so was bleeding. He gave me an ointment and after some days of applying it, I became normal.  I really started enjoying this kind of sex in hostel after ninth Class.  Our batch had many form boys and one boy who was close to swami then opened his underwear in front of me,of course it was strange for I had considered him pure.  A teacher Mr. Shailesh Srivastava spoke many time in our class as parayana on Baba saying that Swami was beyond reproach even if he commits adultery or murder as he is God and we must have full faith in him always. Though I developed such habits, I still considered myself a sinner and thought myself purified whenever I got a chance to hand him a letter or to touch his feet.(it was only much later n my post graduation first year that i came to know that swami was doing all such things with close form boys and I started t feel the unnaturalness of the whole thing). Consequently, when after my own investigation and further knowledge it was made clear to me that I had come toot near fire and must go back. I was left all alone in the world…

Dear Conny,
Let me tell you I am ashamed of my past but I would like secrecy for the sake of my family and myself. Already I have had few problems with the members of the organisations. I will reveal further as I feel people must know what creature SB is but I do not wish to divulge my name or whereabouts for the sake of my family.

I had given up the dirty habit I developed at Parthi. I do visit the Shirdi Sai temple as I feel that Shri Shirdi Sai Baba must not be confused with Sathya (or should I say ASATHYA, FALSE Sai Baba of Puttaparthi). One fine day, I got the Inspiration in a Shirdi Baba temple. I had a very strong experience before that to burn this dirty habit in his dhuni and focus my thoughts on leading a good life.  I am sorry as I feel I will hurt many sentiments but truth is truth and must be made known.

The depth of self-examination of this unfortunate victim of Sai Baba’s terrible college regime is unrelenting and his admirable honesty is plain to see. It gives a taste of the personal problems with which so many former students of Sathya Sai Baba have to struggle – in similar ways to the countless victims of Roman Catholic and other sectarian sexual abuses on a major scale. There is no wonder that most of them are so far unready and unwilling to stand forth with their evidence, considering the current hateful climate against defectors and dissidents among so many remaining followers. Above all, since ex-students have been murdered, virtually under the nose of Sathya Sai Baba who knew all that was happening while they were relentlessly executed in his bedroom apartment, it is not safe to speak up in India and may not be so for a long time yet. We in the exposé have long known of such matters through this kind of testimony, only a portion of which has been posted previously. At some date in future the Sathya Sai Baba viper’s nest will be exposed to a much wider extent than today, and large-scale financial compensation may well be sought eventually.

It is, moreover, known from an impeccable research report into sexual and physical abuse in India that homosexual child abuse is rife in India. Study on Child Abuse: INDIA 2007  About this damning report, the BBC commented: “A study into child abuse in India has found that more than half the children questioned said they had been sexually abused. Researchers spoke to more than twelve thousand children. Two-thirds said they’d experienced physical abuse. India’s Minister for Child Development, Renuka Chowdury, called the findings disturbing and said it was time to end the conspiracy of silence surrounding child abuse.” (Damian Grammaticus) The extremely revealing research was commissioned by the Ministry of Women and Child Development of the Government of India and carried out by independent researchers. It is supported by Save the Children and UNICEF and is a major and authoritative and highly representative social psychological study which goes into great detail and spans the whole of India: see the whole report in its systematic detail at

Fifty-three per cent of India’s forty million children claim to have been sexually abused, mostly by a person known to them! That is over 20 million child victims!. But most of the children never reported their trauma, such is the taboo around the subject. Two-thirds of the children said they’d suffered physical abuse, in most cases being beaten by a parent or teacher. The government is now drawing up a new child protection law, but too late for millions whose childhood has already been lost. Those engaged in bringing the facts to light about Sathya Sai Baba have long been pointing out the extreme taboo around the subject of child sex abuse, especially the many abuses so widely and credibly alleged by many of the injured parties about Sathya Sai Baba’s sexual use of boys and young men.

Dr. Naresh Bhatia was a very close devotee and servitor of Sai Baba through many years and told the Daily Telegraph reporter, Mick Brown – plus various others who contacted him after he was banned from the ashram – that he had been a sexual partner of Sathya Sai Baba for years. He stated that he knew well that Sathya Sai had the sexual use of at least several of his college boys daily through many years! But because the prestige of so many gullible and self-seeking Indian politicians and judges, they have done everything to cover up the facts and have quashed all investigations and even a Supreme Court petition. Even Dr. Bhatia has – after physical threats – fallen silent and has been ‘persuaded’ by Sai officials not to dare to speak out further.

You can see a selected list of prominent signers of the Petition here.

Sathya Sai Baba’s lunar age 96

Posted by robertpriddy on May 9, 2011

Astronomical lunar months - from Wikipedia

The entire house of cards has tumbled down on the failed predictions of Sathya Sai Baba about his alternative dates of death (93 or 96). Therefore it is totally crucial to the Sathya Sai officials, Trust, devotees and hangers on that he should be proven right, whether by hook or crook… involving falsification of facts! Once and for all, the correct calculations versus diverse fanatical attempts to justify a totally failed prediction by Sathya Sai Baba (one showcased here):-
Another very confused devotee now claims Sathya Sai Baba told him he was 96 years old. To prove it he has concocted a ‘magimathemattical’ calculation which gets the number of days lived by SSB entirely wrong, which is confirmed by the pronouncement that SB lived 30,833 days. He also get the length of the draconic lunar year wrongly, stating it is 324 days, when in fact it is 326 days (on average). These ‘adjustments’ let him produce the false result 96.2 lunar years. (Check this out at his site at

1. According to the lunar calendar; 1 year = 324 days
2. Baba saw 85 years and 153 days (i.e. up to 24.04.2011) of the Christian calendar; therefore He saw an equivalent of (85 x 365) + 153 = 31178 days of the Christian calendar
3. If we convert this to the lunar calendar we see; 31178 / 324 = 96.2 years
4. AND IF WE CONVERT THIS MESSAGE AS OF 11TH FEB 2011 IT IS 31,104 / 324 = 96 YEARS EXACTLY, BHAGWAN SRI SATHYA SAI BABA DID LIVE TO 96 YEARS, Fellow devotees, please be sure to send this page, calculation to all who question Baba’s integrity and prophecies.

The number of days per lunar year would be 27.21 times 12 = 326.52 (days per annum) So 30,833 days divided by 326 days per year is equal to 91.02 lunar years.
This does not reach the minimum requirement of 93 years, which he twice predicted in separate discourses. Nor by far does it reach 96 years, which he also stated was the age he would reach – as all commentators agree. However one twists and turns it, the calculations do not fit the prediction.HOWEVER! The idea of a ‘lunar year’ is invalid astronomically… see how this is explained by a comment made on (see scan on right):-

Check the contents for yourself by clicking on the image

It is highly amusing that the people wait for a Hindu scholar/astrologer to confirm their calculations! Astrologers are hardly any use compared to astronomers, astrology is known for using defunct ways of reckoning, using the Procrustean bed to make things fit and  in general to be unable to predict (for example, the winners of India elections or the death date of anyone with accuracy) – and Hindu scholars cannot improve on the hard astronomical facts, however devoted they are to their beliefs!

According to website Sathya Sai Baba lived for 30,833 days. This is a correct calculation (correct IF he was actually born on 23 Nov. 1926, which is disputed- since his registered date in his school record is 3 years LATER!) The lunar month averages 27.21 days (by the very shortest or ‘draconic’ reckoning which the website chose for obvious reasons).

……………BUT, a lunar year is an obscure construction which was never used in dating Sai Baba’s birthdays or any other date announced by him or his ashrams.  A year necessarily means a solar year, the time the earth takes to circumnavigate the sun (365 days excepting leap year – the same for the moon, of course, which is a satellite to the earth) . One cannot add or subtract from that year because of lunar phases any more than one can change it because of the apparent movement of, say, Mars or Venus. That some Hindu shastris use such calculations is beside the point and they even in some cases decide to add one lunar months every 6 years so as to approach the correct solar year length! Only now does all this lunar confusion seem of significance to those desperately searching for an explanation to prove Sai Baba was infallible. THAT he certainly never was! An Indian follower posted a similar view on the year on comments:-

Anti-cult organizations should step up warnings on the Sai Baba people

Posted by robertpriddy on May 8, 2011

The famous Rick Ross anti-cult activist has a posting on his website which is still as valid as when it was first made:-

“The people behind Sai Baba’s myth and money-machine should be prosecuted. But that’s hard to do when they are the law.
9 billion in Sai Baba wealth can buy a lot of graft and bribes. Some people will do terrible things for that kind of money, or for a lot less.

It really is a terrible situation. People need to be warned to keep their children far away from any Sai Baba org center, especially in India. As if its true that the Sai Baba inner circle is committing similar sexual abuses.
And other vulnerable people need to be warned to stay away from the Sai Baba organization, as many of them have had all of their money taken, and then were cast aside.
Sai Baba is not going away, the Sai Baba Org is going to keep on pushing their agenda, and collecting money, some being used for visible “charity” to deflect criticism, and the rest being handed over to friends for contracts, kickbacks..uh donations. But all governments should warn their citizens to stay away from the Sai Baba ashram for all the reports of sexual abuse of children.”

This remains valid because there are many reports from ex-students who have contacted anti-cult activists who tell that sexual abuse is rife within Sai colleges in Prashanthi Nilayam and Brindavan.

Here is an excerpt from an account made by a former student – now an academic – who has been in regular contact with well known ex-follower Conny Larsson by phone and e-mail and with myself for several years. We know his real identity and can confirm that he is a real person, but we must protect him from aggressive Sai stalkers and continued harassment by fanatical Sai Baba devotees where he is in India:-

I have been accused from the “people of the 5 Human Values” of all sort of things and foremost even threatened for my life. These stalkers that has been paid by the Sai org. is terrible people that also was my former close friends within the Sai org.  But what more could one expect from people devoted to a Rakshasa like Sai Baba. He ones told my when I told him that I loved him, ” yes I now, my food is your thoughts” I almost fainted out of satisfaction, could you believe how gullible I was.  Seduced both physically, spiritually and mentally. The so called “seva” within his org. is just a mumbo jumbo that never existed so far.

I am really at pains to understand that one of my closest friends(name given but undisclosed here), who personally told me about the private goings on is still a believer, though I sympathize with him. It can be due to the fact that his father was given free hospital treatment and I believe he has received other benefits . There was also (name undisclosed). They are still my friends  and so it is difficult to come out in the open.

(‘Raman Sharma’ tells next of how a close relative of his was a prominent official in the Sathya Sai Organisation but left after he told her of his experiences. They were ostracized by all former Sai Baba friends and none bothered to ask after his relative’s health after a cancer operation. After I came out my mother left the organisation and many senior member spoke ill about us. Even when she was operated upon for cancer in 2008,none of those so called sai-friends were considerate enough even to enquire about her welfare.)I also had a miraculous escape in a way when I had confronted the hostel warden directly (it’s a long story of my own humiliations and shady living and things to which I was introduced as a kid in my eight standard by older boys and close friends). I still recollect another Mephistopheles of SB, Nanjundaiaah, the controller of examinations at the university speaking to our class that “Swami is pure innocence, you students by your association and dirty thoughts are spoiling him and his innocence” referring to the talk that was spreading at the college.

They misbehaved with students whenever rumours or truth about SSB started spreading in the hostel. Earlier SSB use to himself do this job by publicly humiliating those students and expelling them, thereby spoiling their careers. How many days of psychological trauma and torture good students have suffered! If I remember correctly, it was in June 2000 during the summer course (or was it 1999) two Brindavan form boys (who slept with SB) were taken ill. When checked, they were found to be HIV positive. I don’t know what happened to them, but SB was very upset with them and threw them out. I think this information was totally suppressed. In India the atmosphere is such that even people like us who know facts doubts ourselves at times.  I do hope and pray that God does not allow India to be a global superpower, otherwise it has everything in it to corrupt the rest of the world. The famous authour Nirad C Chaudhuri used a term MEGALOMANIA(In his own words he explained that just as an individual can be overtaken by madness, entire groups of people can grow mad). In India we have no dearth of politicians going collectively mad and so also credulous  people in general. At least Nehru, for all his shortcomings never bowed down to irrationality just as his party supremos like PM Manmohan Singh  and Sonia Gandhi did recently by Bowing down at the corpse of dead Sathya sai Baba.

Yesterday, I was going through the exbaba site and the account of SB’s sibling Janakiramiah’s death. I noticed two points: Firstly, While Janakiramiah lay dying, people were allowed to see him in the ICU at SSSIHMS. I really fail to understand why are the devotees not being allowed now.  Secondly, there was a reference of a bloated Janakiramaiah’s body being sent back to his residence at Parthi. I would like to bring to your notice about another death at the hospital. It concerns prof. Kailash Kumar Aurora, one of the professors’ of English at the Institute. I heard about his death when I had gone to parthi last in 2004. He also died at SSSIHMS and some students who saw him (may be at the hospital) repeatedly confirmed that his body had bloated up unnaturally. I do know of the fact that many permanent members at the ashram or evn students never wanted to go to SSSIHMS for treatment because the Hospital was famous for giving wrong injections or medications to the patients. I personally hold the view that SB knew of these goings-on at the hospital and never wanted any major achievement of the hospital to be highlighted in public.>Also, returning to the sequence of my older emails, somewhere around 1990 there was a student called Ramesh from Andhra who use to terrorize me and have sex. He never allowed me to go to class and I was really afraid of him, I don’t know for what, I think most of them knew of SB and I am surprised that even on Facebook none of the old Sai students are showing any serious concern about swami’s health. I think it was in my tenth that I started enjoying sex with males after being forced to do it in eighth and ninth. I even stopped going home during holidays in the pretext of staying with swami and my parents being devotees could not imagine about what was happening to me.I remember praying to SB that my parents should die so that I could enjoy life on my own, such was my foolishness. These memories are indeed painful but I can certainly say that I have restrained myself from doing it with younger folks at Parthi. Somehow I always had the feeling that it was wrong.

Another Indian ex-student of Sai Baba with whom I am in regular contact and whose genuineness I tested by asking questions about a student from Prashanthi Nilayam college I once knew there from before he began at the college whose time overlapped his, and he gave me the right answers: writes:-

“SB will no longer molest young boys! I hope the trust can continue to work efficiently providing service activities to people in need.  Seeing the outpouring of love and affection for the departed soul, how I wish he were really a saint! Having heard first hand accounts of his lecherous acts from victims who were my friends in college, I simply cannot forgive him for the way he wrecked so many young boys’ lives.
Truth is what it is, and instead of ignoring it or overlooking it, one must be courageous enough to face it and accept it. I appreciate the outstanding efforts put in by you and other leaders of the Sai expose movement on the internet. Thanks to your efforts, SB is known as “the god man who did good social work but was also haunted by allegations of grave, serious crimes”.  His heinous crimes will forever be part of his legacy.”

Sathya Sai Baba in The Guardian

Posted by robertpriddy on May 7, 2011

The Guardian, UK, is one of the world’s most respected newspapers due to its careful investigation and serious, level-headed reporting. It does not fear taking a critical approach where deemed necessary, as its reports in the past on Sathya Sai Baba bear witness. This is also the case with the latest article, from which the more vital parts are copied here below, with some comments interspersed:-

Sathya Sai Baba was unusual among India’s grotesquely obese multitude of god-men. He was born in southern India in 1926. At the age of 14, according to his army of hagiographers, he had an epiphany: declaring himself a reincarnation of the 19th-century Marathi Sufi savant Sai Baba, he dropped his given name, Sathyanarayana Raju, and began calling himself Sathya Sai Baba…

…Sathya Sai Baba, stationed in distant Puttaparthi, away from the spiritual bazaars of Varanasi and Rishikesh, attracted only a small segment of the hippies who travelled to India. Almost all of them had heard about him from others, and virtually none of them knew what he looked like.

Unlike the Sufi Sai Baba, Sathya Sai Babai’s message was banal: there was an emphasis on vegetarianism, love and peace, but no radical insights into the condition of humanity. Nor was he in the business of converting people. Instead, in a novel touch, he urged his followers to be good practitioners of their own faith. But what made him distinct was his uniquely arresting appearance: the flowing saffron robes, the tiny body, and the woollen hair, resembling a topiary bush, that sat above his childlike face. His intellectual limitations were more than compensated for by thaumaturgy, his principal strength, and he cultivated his devotees with impressive gifts conjured from the air. Until the 1990s, Sathya Sai Baba’s influence rarely extended beyond his circle of followers. Within his own home state of Andhra Pradesh, he was rubbished as a charlatan by the charismatic and wildly popular film star-turned-politician NT Rama Rao. But when PV Narasimha Rao, a fellow Andhrite, became prime minister in 1991, it consecrated Sathya Sai Baba’s position as the most powerful god-man in India.

There are riveting accounts by devotees of encounters with Sathya Sai Baba. One westerner records being handed a “freshly glazed” photograph, produced in the swami’s palm as if by magic, with the address of his ashram on the back. “You’ve been asking for my address,” Sathya Sai Baba tells him. “Here it is. Keep it in your wallet.” There are numerous tales of patients beings healed by the swami’s sacred ash. In one of the more fantastic tales, the swami is approached by a terminally ill woman; her only hope of survival is a treatment that is available exclusively in Japan, but she does not have the means to travel. The swami smiles, points to a door and asks her to open it. She does. On the other side is Japan. (See some of the amusing comments below)

Sathya Sai Baba preferred earthly modes of transport for himself, travelling in a Rolls-Royce gifted to him by a wealthy devotee. The Sufi Sai Baba had lived in a dilapidated mosque; his supposed reincarnation’s “humble” ashram was a veritable palace. For a man claiming to be god, Sathya Sai Baba was oddly enthusiastic about science; perhaps it had something to do with his own mastery of the laws of physics. He collected vast sums of money to build super-speciality hospitals – although no one bothered to ask him why, as god, he would not make hospitals redundant by eradicating disease altogether.

To Sathya Sai Baba’s great credit, he condemned the destruction of the Babri mosque in 1992 and, despite blandishments by the Hindu right, always refused to endorse their project. But proximity to power brought its own benefits. In 1993, four men entered the swami’s bedroom carrying knives; they were confronted by the police guard, overwhelmed, sealed up in a room, and then shot dead. The then home secretary of Andhra Pradesh described the killings as “cold blooded murder“. But investigations never followed.

Comment: It was Narasimha Rao and his Home Minister, S.B. Chavan (a long-time devotee of SB) who handled the major cover-up of the murders in Sathya Sa Baba’s bedroom of four of his ex-students, eventually quashing by government order the CBI investigation that was instituted because of the Puttapatthi police corruption and falsification of all evidence. A petition against Sai Baba to the Supreme Court was also rejected out of hand (see here) The Sai Central Trust and ashram authorities did everything they could, along with the police, to confuse every aspect of the entire episode. The government caused investigators to be transferred when they were getting too close to the truth… namely, that the police execution of the four young men was a result of blackmail by Sai Baba’s minions, especially his younger brother, Janakiramiah. This information leaked out to me from my very good friend, the close editorial servant of Sai Baba, once-famous journalist V.K. Narasimhan – see here.

Reports of sexual misconduct were similarly ignored. At least two young men accused the swami of putting his penis in their mouths. In 2001, India’s first Hindu nationalist prime minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, circulated a letter on his official notepaper condemning the allegations as “concocted“.

Comment: The Prime Minister’s letter was also signed by ex-High Chief Justice P.N. Bhagwati  now about to take over the running of the multi-billion dollar Sathya Sai Central Trust. Bhagwati has exposed himself in a remarkable interview with the Times of India as a mere puppet for Sai Baba in ALL his actions(see Ex-Chief Justice of India: Sathya Sai Baba “dictated my every single judgement”). The whitewash was based ENTIRELY on devotional belief, because challenges were mounted under the Right to Information Act to see what investigation or evidence collection has been undertaken, but there was nothing whatever! The BBC documentary ‘The Secret Swami’ interviewed numerous victims of Sai Baba’s sexual abuse, presenting the testimony of two only due to editorial (not legal) considerations.

Ultimately, Sathya Sai Baba’s protracted struggle to avert death demonstrated that, even as a human, he was merely ordinary. After a lifetime of self-elevating sermons on his own divinity, he feared what lay beyond life – and he feared it so severely that he ceased to be concerned by the gulf it opened up between image and reality. God spent his final days on a life-support system.

Among some of the hilarious comments made on the Guardian article about ‘one of the more fantastic tales’ were the following:-

SeculR 6 May 2011 2:40PM Why did he spend billions to build canals for miles when he could have done that in a sleight of hand? And where did he get that amount of money from? It’s that door again. He just opened it and this time there was a bank vault the other side … knockout!

SeculR 6 May 2011 12:30PM Are we all certain that this man has died? There is always the possibility that he might have gone to the bathroom one night, opened the wrong door and found himself in Japan … or anywhere for that matter. Still, let’s hope he has his mobile with him, so that he can phone home.

conifer 6 May 2011 1:16PM As long as he doesn’t find a door to come back through we’re okay.

TheSmokingMan 6 May 2011 4:04PM – conifer – 6 May 2011 12:16PM:- If he’d pointed at the door on the other side, they could have had a Chinese. They were running a dim Sum special too!!!

SeculR 6 May 2011 4:59PM Maybe he was busy financing another canal that day, got a bit distracted and missed the other door.

Sathya Sai Baba’s death and ‘mahasamadhi’

Posted by robertpriddy on May 6, 2011

In their understandable desperation to believe in the divinity of Sathya Sai Baba, countless hysterical Indian followers – not least the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and other ‘luminaries’ are deathly silent about the fact that Sathya Sai Baba’s death was totally unlike those India has previously required of its holy men and women when they supposedly ‘leave the body by free will’ and allegedly “merge with the infinite”. (i.e. when they die, in sensible parlance). Not only did Sai Baba become more and more haggard and catatonic looking at least from his 85th birthday onwards, but he died because of multiple organ failure after being disconnected from his life support system. Nothing yogic, nothing saintly, nothing remotely holy or divine about that!

Nor did he die when he predicted he would, despite all the diverse attempts to recalculate his age according to lunar (rather than calendar or solar) years. The results the various ‘Vedic experts’ produce differ from one another and also differ from the two different times of death Sai Baba is documented as having stated. Rationalizations of the clownish ‘mental gymnastic’ sort – including affronts to simple arithmetic – are concocted to mislead the despondent believer back into the faith of the fold. The official Sai website reckoned SB was 94.4 lunar years old at death, which is way off the 93 or the 96 years of age he predicted in his various published discourses! The official disinformation is propelled by the matter of big money… the more who doubt or leave Sai Baba, the less that will flow into the huge coffers. This will mean the closure of many of the projects  that devotees have developed in the name of Sai Baba, who loved to take ALL the credit for all of it, which he just sat on his wheelchair and spouted moralizing words repeatedly all his adult life). It reportedly will also affect many schools that hijacked the name so as to siphon off donations from foreign devotees (see Times of India here).

Looking at the physical condition of Sathya Sai Baba on his last birthday (that was, incidentally, blazoned everywhere as his 85th year, no less!) one can see that he is nowhere near matching up to his repeated boasts that he would never show signs of age, that he would always be healthy. If multiple organ failure – heart, lungs, kidneys and liver – amounts to good health in any shape or form or his depressed hangdog face to youthful appearance then I could be a hoary Ayurvedic medicine man… and with brass knobs on too! Queen Elizabeth is an 85-year old picture of health and a massively respected world figure, known to everyone. Not so Sathya Sai Baba, who not only boasted he was in line for the Nobel Peace Prize (which he never got nor ever remotely qualified for it) but made massive unfulfilled claims:-

In the days ahead, the whole world will be obliged to come to Prashanthi Nilayam(p. 320 Sanathana Sarathi December 1991)
The whole world will be transformed into Sathya Sai Organisation and Sathya Sai will be installed in the hearts of one and all.(Sanathana Sarathi, January 1999 – page 16)
“You are going to witness the divine glory of Swami unfolding in the days to come. He will attract the whole world. There won’t be place for people to stand even. You can see it for yourself, what a great change has occurred during the last one month! All are getting attracted to Swami.Discourse 16 March 2003.
“Very soon, the entire world will be united. In fact, after 28 years, the world itself will become “Bharat”. Everyone will call themself a Bharatiya (one imbued with godliness — Bhagavat rathas). No one will refer to themself as belonging to this state or that state, this region or that region.”

“In fact, there is no trace of hatred or enmity in Me at any time. I love all. That is why everyone loves Me.” (Sathya Sai Speaks Vol. 36, p- 86 Discourse 06/05/2003) “… nobody is against me. Everyone loves and none hates me.” (p. 262)
That is not true for a start as there are plenty who express otherwise on the Internet!

Sai Baba challenged by Indian legal journal

Posted by robertpriddy on May 5, 2011

Editorial, ‘MASTER OF MAMMON’ in LAW ANIMATED WORLD, 30 April 2011 issue he certainly proved to be though all the tall claims that he was but an incarnation or messenger of God were definitely not. It seems we Indians have a peculiar addiction to such ingenious perverts once they don saffron robes, perform some cheap magic tricks and utter carefully rehearsed sermons on spiritual matters. Otherwise it is hard to explain the charisma this ‘avatar’ has wielded over millions of people including the VVIPs of the country and all this despite the well-documented exposes by rationalists like late Premananda, et al.
At least after the gory murders in his bedroom in 1993, about which two analytical pieces were published in Nov-Dec 2005 issues of this journal also, some good sense must have prevailed over the minds of people and especially the governments and the police ought to have sprung into action and rigorously investigated and taken to task the fake Baba and his cohorts but alas that was not to be. Even though the Baba himself was, admittedly, an eye-witness to the murders he was not questioned and made a witness even, let alone being accused of the crime, and the whole matters hushed up according to the later scathing criticism of experienced police officers like V.J. Ram. Now, after the demise of the ‘god-man’, the legacy of his multi-thousand crore empire is at stake and people are really worried that the enormous wealth he amassed, in various questionable ways to say the least, may be pilfered and misused by a hypocritical coterie to the detriment of society.
As such we feel and appeal that the Government should step in and take over the trust to run the affairs smoothly and invest its enormous moneys for good ends. There is a criticism, somewhat justified, that Hindu religious/spiritual endowments are alone interfered with and usurped for various extraneous purposes by the governments, which dare not touch like institutions of any other religions. Hence, it may be appropriate for the government to create a strictly impartial, statutory Board of Endowments and deal with all deviant and suspicious endowments of any religion through its channels for the general welfare and progress of the people at large.

Sathya Sai Baba education in Satyajit’s hands

Posted by robertpriddy on May 4, 2011

Late Satya Sai Baba’s trusted follower of 15 years, Yatish Salian alias Satyajit has been sidelined by the 8 members Central Trust, especially Sai Baba’s power-hungry nephew Ratnakar.

The division of the spoils goes on – mostly behind tightly closed doors – but Satyajit, Sathya Sai Baba’s No. 1 ‘boyfriend’ and roommate for so many years has been allocated some responsibility… not one which promises any serious financial gain. Money matters will be kept for the Trust panjandrums and several cover-up, corrupted persons like Bhagwati, whose astonishing admissions of how he fulfilled his role as a Supreme Court judge have been nudging a few mainstream journalists in India half-awake. (i.e. they rather prefer to embrace – often in chauvinist ways – Sathya Sai Baba’s great façade of holiness and try to forget all that he is rightly accused of by young men and families of executed ex-students… to name the most prominent of cases.  See a proper and succinct summary of this here:- Ex-Chief Justice of India: Sathya Sai Baba “dictated my every single judgement”

Vidya Vahini schools - i.e. 'Sweetness of Knowledge' schools - but they will only purvey faith, doctrine and dogma electronically - , not real knowledge

Meanwhile, Satyajit is to oversee the system of Sai schools called Vidya Vahini. The use of the Sanskrit word ‘Vidya’ shows what kind of supposed ‘knowledge’ this system purveys – in short, the kind of mythological-based moralizing and simplistic doctrine of a mainly Hindu religious character. His so-called “human values” are eternal values instituted by him (as creator of the universe and mankind!) In short, unchanging and Divine, and not thereby ‘human’ values’ at all. They are so generalized and ill-defined as to be ambiguous and confusingly simplistic, and were doctrinally ‘set in concrete once and for all’ by his divine will at the beginning of time! Claiming to provide ‘spiritual’ education (to correct the ills of the age) rather than religious teachings, such Sai Baba projects promote highly controversial doctrines such as that of retributive karma, which is open to all kinds of valid criticism, not least that it is pure speculation without any serious empirical backing to be found. The pretence that he purveys any kind of ‘universal spirituality’ common to all religions is false, for the educational system is totally shot through and through with religious ideas and superstitions (especially Hindu beliefs, including the Indian claim of ‘incarnate god-avatars’)

All Sathya Sai Baba educational projects without exception suffer from the same great weaknesses, such as downgrading of recognised human rights, the importance of social and legal justice in favour of enforcing human ‘duties’, and not seeing, hearing or speaking ill of anyone or criticizing anyone (except oneself). In short a sheer parody of right and good and the means to correct the wrong and bad. Then comes the total avoidance of all issues of gender and sexuality in favour of traditional pseudo-Victorian double morale and unrepressed male chauvinist anti-female attitudes throughout. The pedagogical standards of all Sai schools, Educare projects, Education in Human Values courses are totally unprofessional, not least since they are taught by believers in Sai Baba, mostly amateur teachers and without any forum for critical, analytical discussion of the contents and aims in respect of any professional educational conferences or research workshops… since all Sai Baba education keeps strictly to itself and allows no outside influence whatever!

Some of the following links may help in clarification – especially who are reeling in confusion at the contradictions, seething doubts and personal confusion that will have arisen for many after the late demise by removal from life support without samadhi by the degenerate man who Indian media are daring even indirectly to call a God!

Human Values – Sai Baba’s truncated ideas The SSEHV (Human Values programme) of Sai Baba is an ill-conceived, skimpy and retrograde form of education that no professional educational experts would condone as it stands, it being too simplistic, rigid and restrictive for modern life
Sai Baba’s “Five Human Values>´”  Summary of the conceptual and pedagogical problems in Sai Baba’s supposedly “human” values and the teaching of them
Where the human values teaching falls short and is in serious error
Human values must include human rights, democratic rights, social equality, women’s rights, gender rights and above all human justice and law. The rigid and unchanging ”five human values’ Sai Baba promotes definitively exclude all these, as do his simplistic and often unpedagogical educational ideas.
Sai Baba discourse on education
A brief look at some of his statements
Human values as common or ‘universal’ values?
Human values can be shared, but can they be they shared universally when they are not practiced universally? Being human values they are socially, culturally and politically variable in expression and not least in practice.
Sathya Sai Baba EHV exposed
as a censorious, amateur sect
Sai Baba Education in Human Values (SSEHV)
A close look at some of the shortcomings and discrepancies in Sathya Sai Education in Human Values
Cardinal failings in Sai Baba’s teachings – some of the main weaknesses summarized and demonstrated in detail
The Guru Papers: Masks of Authoritarian Power These incisive analyses of the methods, teachings and failings common to most so-called ‘gurus’ are highly accurate in describing the dynamics of the guru-follower relationship and its exploitation. They apply with full force to  Sai Baba, as any independent-minded person can easily establish.
Fallacies in doctrines of ‘karma’ (and healing) The conflict between traditional doctrines of karma and scientific rationality. Variants in doctrine are compared with the current state of human knowledge
Sai Baba fallacies and falsities – his absurd ‘Saience’ vs. true science His ignorance of atomic physics, astrophysics, magnetism, geo-sciences, historical fact, history of religions etc.
Human Rights World Report 2008. India In Sore Shape World report 2008 in marked conflict with Sai Baba’s promises made over many decades. He has said that he would first “save” India and then the rest of the world – this within his own lifetime.
Spirituality redefined without religion or mysticism
Spirituality is about human values, which are created and acted on by human beings, without the assistance of any disembodied deity or principle.
Avoidance of vital issues, like sex, AIDS by ‘Universal teacher’ One would expect that a teacher worth his salt would have something educative and knowledgeable to say on the subject of human sexuality and the many issues which surround it and problems which arise from it, but it is far too ‘touchy’ for Sathya Sai Baba. One can but ask why?
Sathya Sai Baba’s religious teaching The most enormous claims ever made by a human being about himself are seen to be nothing but bluster backed by a catch-all pseudo-universal ‘spirituality’
Otherworldliness and futile escapism Belief in a non-physical realm of spirits and deities is only a belief, and one which rather diverts energies and aspirations away from real solutions to human problems than showing any tangible contributions.
Avoiding leaps of faith into conclusions Irrational human behaviour is very widespread, and many people will believe just about anything, especially if it suits them, their lifestyle, their habits and accumulated opinions
Mystical and religious explanations being crowded out
As science continues, decade after decade, to fill more and more of the gaps in our knowledge, there is less and less space for the mystical explanation and the supposed ‘divine hand’. The process of cumulative human knowledge based on massive observation and experimentation – instead of superstition and speculative theology – has continued since earliest human history.

Sathya Sai Baba devotees’ fervour and press reactions

Posted by robertpriddy on May 2, 2011

The debate in India is developing slowly towards some kind of near-sanity about their omnipresent ‘godmen’ as they call them (though the godwoman Amma is also a top player). This is, however, confined to the more respectable media outlets, and some of the top newspapers have to be said to be sticking to myth beyond facts to a despicably large extent. Meanwhile many frenzied Sai devotees – robbed of their enormous expectations built up over decades that Sathya Sai Baba would live until he was 96 (or, as he also said, around 92/93) – are clinging with fervour to the myth concocted by the Sathya Sai authorities that Sai Baba actually lived until he was 94-95 years old according to a little-used lunar calendar. They could not make the arithmetic fit to either 93 or 96, however, which just shows that they will create any delusion they can to save their financial bacon. The inset statement clears up all doubts about this issue once and for all!

Not only that, but the manner of his ‘departure’ from  the human body was not at all what any believer expected or trusted could never happen to the Divinity who claimed he created the Universe and sent Jesus to earth etc. ad inf. Indian spiritual traditions require that a supposed saint or a realised yogi leave his/her body in full consciousness, going to deep meditation!  But NOT in being unconscious, on medication in an Intensive Care Unit! No, it should have been more like Yogananda is fabled to have done, sitting in the lotus position after his last words of wisdom to his acolytes. Many followers of Sai Baba were also formerly believers in Yogananda and other gurus who departed this life in a far more decorous manner, even Ramakrishna Paramahamsa who died from throat cancer in bed after talking to Vivekananda, or  Ramana Maharshi who sat out his fatal cancer in his cave until the last.

Despite such obvious signs that Sai Baba was in most major respects a ‘fake divinity’ until the last, his devotees are busy writing heartfelt drivel on newspaper comment pages about him surely being resurrected soon, about how he really was 96 (despite the official Sai website saying that he was 94.4 lunar years old – that is, 84 in all more usual calendar reckonings of the same sort Sai Baba used in all his discourses and interviews). Further, these zealous fact-twisters are disfiguring the Wikipedia page about Sathya Sai Baba and illegally removing all reference to the huge controversy and criticism that has followed Sathya Sai baba – both within India and abroad, and they are evidently permitted to do so by the Wikipedia administration as there is no warning on the page that the article is contested.

Two excerpts from Indian news lately show a growing impatience with India’s materialistic ‘spirituality’:-

That Irrational High – How godmen hoodwink the gullible into subscribing to their divinity by Ajith Pillai
“When we have a pantheon of gods and goddesses, do we really need godmen? At a very early age, I was exposed to the spiritual guru class.”(excerpts from Outlook India)

“…as a journalist, I did the rounds of a few ashrams. One conclusion I arrived at was that godmen, more than politicians (at least they have to win elections every five years to stay relevant), are the most privileged class. Many have humble beginnings, but later build empires worth hundreds or even thousands of crores. But very rarely are questions asked about the sources of their wealth and what exactly happens to all the black money that the netas are rumoured to park in their ashrams. At any rate, should queries be raised, powerful devotees are often on hand to save and protect them. This is because the elite—from netas to the rich and famous—are drawn to the godmen. Call it this class’s need to fill an inner void or a compulsion to seek divine intervention to ensure their own success and the ruin of their rivals, the godmen, many believe, serve as the via media (a cruder expression would be middlemen) between humans and God. Clearly, mystery shrouds the goings-on in some of the ashrams. Which is why when a Chandraswami (Narasimha Rao’s favourite godman, who was arrested for swindling) or a Swami Amritachaitanya from Kerala (who is wanted for raping two minor girls, among other charges) are arrested, then the nomenclature ‘fake godmen’ is invoked to point out the differences between the ‘tricksters’ and the ‘genuine’ swamis. The only trouble is that devotees who have reposed trust for years together in those who claim to have a hotline to the divine are angered and disappointed when the bubble bursts. Which is precisely what happened when the Bangalore-based Swami Nityananda was caught on video in a comprising position with a Tamil actress. The footage was telecast by a news channel, leading to much violence. The swami’s shocked devotees attacked his ashram and the godman had to flee Karnataka and head for Himachal Pradesh.”

LAST MONTH, the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) received a strange complaint from disciples of one of India’s top godmen, a figure immensely popular for his crowded, five-star discourses in select farmhouses on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon road on the Capital’s southern fringes.

The bizarre incident revolved around a disciple who offered Rs 35 lakh in three installments as donation to gain instant access to the godman’s inner circle. Enthused by the donation and the disciple’s meteoric rise in his business, the godman requested his help in a personal investment that would guarantee quick returns. Rs 4 crore — the amount could even be higher — changed hands. The disciple disappeared overnight. No one knows why the godman and his followers did not press charges, but the general perception among those who attended that meeting at the EOW office, was that the issue was buried instantly because the complainants felt investigations would actually create more tensions for the godman than for the offender. What if the police asked about the source of that cash? “Obviously no one wanted to reveal the godman’s source of money, which is mostly in cash and collected after the discourses. The collections are just huge,” a top EOW officer told TEHELKA.

As per estimates with the finance and home ministries, the total turnover of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s empire is approximately Rs 400 crore that includes his Art of Living (AOL) institutes, pharmacy and health centres, and a hill 40 km from Bangalore on lease from the Karnataka government for 99 years. In the same league are others like Asaram Bapu (turnover Rs 350 crore, includes the multicrore controversial ashram in Delhi’s Ridge area close to the Rabindra Rangashala); Mata Amritanandamayi, “Amma”, of Kerala (turnover Rs 400 crore, includes a virtual corporation that runs schools and hospitals and receives mega donations from all over the world); Baba Ramdev of Hardwar (turnover Rs 400 crore, includes pharmacies and land for two universities); Sudhanshu Maharaj (turnover Rs 300 crore, includes meditation centres across the country and special discourses at the homes of the rich and famous in India and abroad) and Murari Bapu (turnover Rs 150 crore, includes special discourses at political rallies and at private residences in India and abroad).
