One of those who helps investigate matters concerning the exposé has brought my attention to a female Indian Industry Minister who was very deeply involved with Sathya Sai Baba. There was an interview with Dr. Reddy which proves that she was with Sathya Sai Baba throughout his entire hospitalisation, save for a few days due to her other pressing engagements. She had been a very privileged VVIP for well over 10 years, though there are few media reports on the closeness of this connection and all that it most likely implied. Most of the sparse mentions of her and Sai Baba on the www are shown below (click on the thumbnail images to read the various media reports). She was the only woman shown close to the casket during the funeral celebration in the Kulwant Hall and was closer to the casket than Sai Baba’s female family members.
This minister was but one of many, of course, who regularly visited Sai Baba at Prashanthi Nilayam, Puttaparthi, as well as Prime Ministers and Presidents of India, many of whom tended to bring huge entourages with them. It is reported that Ms. Reddy’s own electoral supporters were brought along by her in full buses on junkets (free meals and rooms etc.) to fill out the Kulwant Hall and get the best places for Sai Baba darsans. This opens up a new aspect on the latter years of Sai Baba – after he became so widely accused of sexual and other abuses and himself became an invalid in a wheelchair. The considerable and increasing fall-off in foreign visitors from 2000 onwards (visible on all photos of darshans in those years) was evidently a deficit which the Prashanthi officials, necessarily acting with Sai Baba’s go-ahead, tried to replace by such means. Not least, the railway authorities offered free rail travel to and from Puttaparthi to all who would visit as ‘service workers’, which all members of the organisation were supposed to be the tourist authorities of Andhra Pradesh recommended visits to Sai Baba ashrams as a foreign tourist attraction and included Puttaparti on the main pilgrimage agenda, which provides very popular tours of temples and holy spots, often lasting several days and even weeks. This strongly suggests that other VIPs might well have been arranging ‘filler’ devotees to make it look like there were many more people than there actually were!
