Sai Baba’s letters to his sister Venkamma

An e-mail circulated from SaiSurya@SukshmaBabaReport.Org announces that handwritten letters from Sathya Sai Baba to his elder sister Venkamma have been published on-line at https://gallery.mailchimp.com/72d97e32d741a4b68382758b7/files/Bhagavans_Handwritten_Letters_Draft_for_E_Book.pdf-
An insider who read them while living in with Venkamma in her Prashanthi apartment comments on these. Eileen Weed (aka ‘Divya’) lived at Prashanthi Nilayam between 1984 and 2005, and was resident in the ashram for years, and years with Venkamma until she died (Eileen was at her actual deathbed!). She knew Venkamma and the female side of Sai Baba’s family very well and had learned to be fluent in Telugu. She writes “I recognized the scans of the ‘Letters’, because Venkamma kept the letters sb wrote to her safely in a little tin box in her room. After she died, her grandson took them, along with audio cassettes with recordings I made of Venkamma singing and telling sb stories (which usually ended in her cursing family members for their cruelty, deceit and selfishness against her). In his letters Sai Baba only writes about mundane, worldly matters with hardly any god-talk philosophy, it appears! This was his true self, not the façade he erected in front of thousands of people.”
Indeed, the letters are most pedestrian fare – hardly what one would expect the self-proclaimed Avatar of the Age, Creator of the Universe, Father who sent Christ, Deity of Deities and Saviour of Mankind etc. etc. to write. In one letter, sb was telling Venkamma not to give any more money to workers because they are trying to ‘cheat’ him with not enough work. This from the iniquitous Universal Cheat Himself, Sathya Sai Baba, who claimed he knew everything about everything (not least how to cheat). Besotted devotees will claim that he was simply ‘acting out’ a role as an ordinary man so devotees could more easily relate to him for their benefit of mankind (but Sai Baba was his own NO 1 beneficiary). Venkamma knew the bottom line and she hardly ever did more than lip service to some of his pretenses, never telling of Sai childhood miracles – the elder sister kept an eye on him and was not deceived. His elder brother, Mr. Sesham Raju, also knew the score!
|It is surprising that they even published the letters online, as anyone can read them and see the worldliness and lack of empathy (which anyone living in the ashram long term knew about). Of course, the ever-cautious Trust did not publish the letters, but the new and naïve Muddy adherents. The question is, what contacts do they have that gave those letters? It has to be either a sb family member or inner circle member (I had given Mrs Ratenlal a copy of the letters, who used to cook for sb and attend his meals in the old days). I wrote to the Muddy people (incognito) and asked if they also had the audio recordings of Venkamma singing and talking, but did not receive a reply.|
