Puttaparthi has become more and more as it was before the Sathya Sai Baba boom, with so few visitors and foreign tourists with money that its economy has shrunk, despite all the efforts of politicians and subsidies etc. to make it into a major religious site. The reputation of Sathya Sai Baba was destroyed internationally after the revelations in 2000 of major serial sex abuses by him and the subsequent discovery of the wall-to-wall corruption, bribery, criminal activities and the ignominious death of the self-proclaimed ‘Creator of the Universe’ (see proof here). Almost all who remain believers are Indians and a handful of non-Indian people in other countries.

Despite the push and propaganda to make Puttaparthi a tourist attraction, it is fading away into oblivion and cannot compete with the still wild popularity of stone idols in ancient temples, such as Tirupati. Smart people observe sb’s “My life is my message” motto and opt out of worshipping someone who committed so many evil and illegal acts.
