Master Plan for Puttaparthi? UPDATED!

Posted by robertpriddy on June 11, 2020

The proposition for a major development of Puttaparthi into an international tourist destination, first reported years ago and revisited many times (not least of which was in September 2019), has again been revised in a Hans India article dated 2 June 2020.

Sathya Sai Baba has been dead and buried for nine (9) years now. Puttaparthi has hardly any visitors, as the evidence of wrongdoing and the fact that the baba constantly sexually abused young boys for many decades, has spread far and wide.

Puttaparthi is now just a typical small town with normal families going about their normal lives. How will they attract tens of thousands of spiritual-minded tourists to pay for the “Yoga Wellness Centre” and the “Food Park”? Wait and watch my friends – wait and watch!

This massive project promises to be yet another “White Elephant” of waste, just like the Sathya Sai Airport, vacant year round, is now.

Puttaparthi (Anantapur) : MLA D Sridhar Reddy stated that he will strive to develop Puttaparthi as an international tourist destination. Already the spiritual town has a brand image due to the visit of several people from abroad when Bhagawan Sathya Sai Baba was alive.

The town has many guest houses and private resorts built by foreign devotees of the Baba and it will be developed on the lines of Mantralaya, he said.

Sathya Sai National Park, Underground drainage and underground power cables, a ring road, R&B circuit guest house, Food Park and Yoga Wellness Centre will be part of Rs 1,000 crore development project, he added.

Sridhar Reddy said to The Hans India that a master plan had been drafted prior to covid 19 lockdown.

Soon the issue will be taken to the notice of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

APIIC will provide 100 acres of land for Food Park, and Roads and Buildings department will be investing Rs.350 crore on the 31.5 km ring road development covering Manillakunta Cross, Kothacheruvu, Puttaparthi and Bukkapatnam mandals. Already 60 acres had been identified for the Yoga Wellness Centre, he further said.

MLA Sridhar asked officials to take steps for planting trees on the proposed ring road connecting Puttaparthi-Bukkapatnam-Kothacheruvu. A fountain at the Chitravati dam and also a giant statue of Baba for attracting tourists are also planned by the MLA.

  1. Dear Robert, So unfortunate that the Indian Govt under Modi is turning a blind eye to all the wrongs done there…no wonder many of us are totally silent and having to helplessly bow down heads under family pressure…I for one have become more a follower of ACIM and other new age teachings as they bring me peace and I can be myself Rohit
