‘The Pioneer’ report on the Sathya Sai Baba bedroom murder case

Posted by robertpriddy on July 7, 2010

The Pioneer, New Delhi 10-6-1993

Comment: One sees here again the most doubtful role of the Puttaparthi police in this whole episode, which is why the investigation was soon taken entirely out of their hands and given to the CBI, which worked on the case effectively, Before the report was due, the two main officers conducting the investigation were suddenly posted away somewhere else… one can easily figure the reason. Because not log after that, the entire official investigation was quashed (by Home Minister S.B. Chavan with the endorsement of Prime Minister Narasimha Rao, both of whom visited Sathya Sai Baba regularly, especially after the murders! For back-up documentation of all this, see:-

9/11 Twin Towers, Pastor Terry Jones and Sathya Sai Baba

Posted by robertpriddy on September 11, 2009

Today it is 9 years since the Twin Towers disaster. Among those conscienceless people who try to make publicity for their religious beliefs and themselves out of this disaster are not only the fanatical pseudo-Christian book-burning Florida pastor Terry Jones, but also the followers of the Hindu Avatar Sathya Sai Baba, who have long tried cynically to capitalize on it to promote this Hindu cult teaching’s figurehead, the self-trumpeting Deity of all Deities Incarnate on Earth who is accused widely of sexual abuses and being an accomplice to murders. They have not been without some success in St. Louis, where the mayor announced that 9/11 is officially Sathya Sai Baba Day in St. Louis – see here!

The International Chairman of the Sathya Sai Organization made a claim which is an outright offense to all those who died in the 9/11 disaster and their families. He stated that Sathya Sai Baba said none of the victims were his devotees because he saved only those of his followers who should have been in the Twin Towers! Sathya Sai baba claims he is God Incarnate on earth today, almighty, compassionate, omnibenevolent. So the implication is that those who died in the 9/11 incident were not worthy of his blessing! How disgusting and hypocritical. But Sai Baba followers are pleased about this and have publicised it as much as they can!

Two totally indoctrinated VIP cover-up merchants for Sai Baba

Two totally indoctrinated VIP cover-up merchants for Sai Baba

It is reported that Dr. Michael Goldstein “gave some news that left the sweating audience mute: On September 11, the devotees that worked at the Twin Towers and the Pentagon didn’t go to work that day or were late getting to their jobs. ‘Thanks to our beloved Bhagavan,’ pontificated Goldstein, ‘all the New York and Washington devotees are safe.’ I shuddered to think that the public might applaud the news. But nobody did. Baba’s divine powers only benefit those faithful to him, or was this news passed on to avoid more desertions?” (from a live TV programme on Zona de Investigacion (Azul TV, Argentina) reported by the Argentian journalist and TV director, Agnostelli)

In the same programme, Leonard Gutter, Central Coordinator of the South American Sathya Sai Organizations, said: “Baba’s love encompasses all: There were 50,000 people working at the Towers and only 3,000 died; then Baba saved 47,000, not only devotees. Each person has his own karma: that was the destiny of those who died there.”

The TV programme’s 1st part is transcribed here.

These wild conjectures by Dr. Goldstein and Leonardo Gutter would be hard to surpass in bad taste, not to mention indoctrinated delusion that Sathya Sai Baba is God Almighty incarnate on earth, plus Jesus come again – but also the Father who sent Jesus!

Sai baba propagandists: Dr. Michael Goldstein and Leonardo Gutter

Note too that Sathya Sai Baba and his various minions recently enthused in public  about his visit to his great devotee in Kampala, despot and gruesome killer, Idi Amin (see proof here: Dictator Idi Amin – Sai Baba’s warm recollections).

The Sathya Sai Organization used 9/11 as a vehicle to try to publicise itself and recruit members to the cult.
A member of the top policy-making ‘Prashanthi Council’ Dr. William M. Harvey and Dr. Goldstein’s right-hand man spoke at the Sai Public Meeting in St. Louis, September 11, 2005 during celebration of Sathya Sai Baba’s 80th birthday (11/23) . He informed that the Mayor of St. Louis accepted their application to make 9/11 “Sathya Sai Baba day”  in St. Louis! (see here) and see the report of Dr. Jack Feely, Regional President, Mid-Central Region US here) However, the secretary of the Mayor informed that over 200 such name days have been registered by the Mayor’s office, so it is no big deal. Rich Sai Baba followers in St. Louis influenced the mayor to accept their application. It appears that this celebration has been scotched since then.

Dr. W.M. Harvey

The report stated: “The program was held at the 1904 World’s Fair Pavilion, a magnificent open-air shelter in the center of Forest Park. The 1300-acre park, considered the “Crown Jewel” of the city, was a picturesque setting worthy of a public program about Sathya Sai Baba, the Divine Crown Jewel of the universe.”The Sai Organization announced at great length its many efforts to get publicity, as in the following short example: “Personal letters of invitation went out to 49 professors of philosophy and theological studies of the major universities and colleges in the area, followed up with telephone message reminders. Press releases went to the major TV and radio stations, along with the major newspapers. Quarter-page ads promoting the meeting were put in a widely distributed spiritually oriented newspaper. That same paper accepted a 700-page article about Sathya Sai Baba and His teachings.”

Comment: Seven hundred pages would take 49 philosophy professors to do that job on short notice? But one suspects that far fewer attended or supported this scandalous misuse of September 11 to propagandise for an Indian fraud accused of sex abuses and murder cover-up?. The result has hardly been earth-shaking. Naively and without joking, Dr. Feely informed of the selfless service provided to participants as follows: “Cold bottled water, served to attendees throughout the program, offered physical comfort that added to the spiritual comfort the speakers’ words provided.”

World leaders and Sathya Sai Baba

Posted by robertpriddy on May 28, 2009

King & Queen blessed but soon to be shot down by their son

King & Queen blessed but soon to be shot down by their son

GyanendraSathya Sai Baba welcomes all important and rich persons, especially Presidents, Prime Ministers and royalty, always giving them full priority over all those who work selflessly for him, however spiritual they may be. For example, the despotic rulers, the super-rich King & Queen of Nepal, were blessed by Sathya Sai Baba as seen in the photo from Sanathana Sarathi (March 1999). They were foully murdered by their own son in 2001! So much for the validity of Sai Baba’s blessings and his guarantee to all who are devoted to him ‘Why Fear When I Am Here?’

Rationalizing devotees will excuse Sai Baba on the grounds that “only He knows what is best for anyone” and he says that one must face death without fear and so in and on. But this only shows how slippery the words of Sai Baba invariably are! That Sai Baba immediately gave such a despot his time and praises will not be misinterpreted by independent-minded observers. That King Gjanendra was hailed as the incarnation of Vishnu – which Sai Baba also claims for himself – is another bizarre aspect of the matter.

Sathya Sai Baba worshipped by India’s P.M.s etc.

Posted by robertpriddy on November 18, 2008

Time for Indian Government leaders to take to their senses:

The Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and his Minister for Home Affairs (Shivraj Patil) are known devotees of Sathya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi, who they visit and show the utmost respect. A man who has for decades repeatedly claimed he is God Incarnate (which is illegal in India anyhow), Sathya Sai Baba clearly stated (or example) on the BBC film ‘The Secret Swami’ that he created 3-ton golden lingam (size and shape of an egg) within his stomach and regurgitated it (though it was clearly seen to be a faked show and the lingam was then placed on a flimsy table without it collapsing!). Is it not time for these supposedly educated people to begin to examine the many facts about the ignorance and deceptions of this imposter “Creator of the Universe”? While this preposterous unspoken embarrassment to intelligent Indians and visiting statesmen from non-Hindu countries persists, how can its leaders really be taken by the world to be seriously responsible people?

Nothing can absolve Sathya Sai Baba from having been involved in the gruesome murder incidents in his bedroom apartment in June 1993, where he fled his apartment and stood nearby and never intervened to save the four who were executed by the blackmailed police. None of the six murders were ever cleared up because his followers, then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao and Home Minister S.B. Chavan quashed the CBI investigation when it began to near a result (See here).

Neither this – nor many substantial sex allegations against Sathya Sai Baba – stopped the Indian Government under A.B. Vajpayee – a long-term devotee himself –  from proposing him for the Nobel Peace Prize! Such wishful ignorance of international standards of judgement is near incredible by a Prime Minister who defended Sai Baba without have made the slightest investigation of the massive evidence (as proven by B. Premanand’s tortuous correspondence with the dissembling authorities see Premanand challenges Vajpayee to come clean.

The practice of human values and the moral standing of anyone who is seriously considered for the Nobel peace Prize must be impeccable, and it is laughable that Sathya Sai Baba actually believed he would get it, as he made totally ill-informed claims that a certain Dr. Nobel was the many who gave it out was visiting him (he is the great grandson of Alfred Nobel and has no role in any Nobel Prizes whatever! See here)

Sathya Sai Baba (mostly passively) supports the vastly increasing militarism and nuclear arsenal of the Indian Government through patronising the designer of atomic weapons (Dr. Bhagavantam, deceased) and hobnobbing in most friendly fashion in public with the designer of the latest nuclear delivery missiles.

Shivraj Patil is a regular visitor to Sathya Sai Baba – see for example  here

Oops! Apparently Sai Baba DID appear on the moon?

Posted by robertpriddy on October 24, 2007

While one fanatical apologist who was nowhere near India at the time claims that Sai Baba never even said he would appear on the moon, others claim that he actually did! Funny, though, how 20,000 people or so (some report 14,000, but no one really counts these crowds) rushed to the airport if no one had said a thing about a moon miracle? There’s something wrong somewhere.

Vivek Kumar wrote on his blog:-

“Yes it happened last night—Sri Sathya Sai Baba did appear in moon last night, and my friends have reported to have seen Him at around 11:00 PM (IST). Yes dear friends, after the earlier declaration that he would show his Vishav Virat Roop (Cosmic Form) to the crowd at the Puttaparthi Airport, it has been done last night. Many people were agog with the words that “Sai Baba’s Moon Miracle Failed”. However, it is been done now and we can revel the mystery of this Avatar.”

And there were 3 comments too!

1) vikiiiiiiii said… Even my parents and friends told that they saw saibaba in moon…every one was wonder stuck
2) Anonymous said… Swami has appeared in the moon tonight as well around the same time as Monday night. Amazing.
3) Rajavelu said… Yes we too have seen this in Abudhabi too.

It’s interesting how the Sathya Sai Organisation, Radio Sai and all the official and semi-official Sai websites avoid the issues with the veritable “silence of the grave”. Wonder why? Not a word to confirm or deny anything! The failed moon miracle issue is very prominently reported in Indian press reports and on many websites and blogs.

This ‘personal religious experience’ of miracles is not confined to Sai Baba followers, however, for Mohammed is said to prevailed on God have ‘split’ the moon into two halves so as to cause some people to believe!
See, for example, NASA Photos Prove Splitting of the Moon, Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) Miracle

How can these ‘miracles’ occur, but only for a handful of people, while astronomers around the world see absolutely zilch? (I can almost ‘hear’ some devotees thinking “Astronomers and star-gazers are unworthy people who are therefore not granted this blessed darshan”. But then again there were the 200,000 devotees at the airport who did not get it either).

Sam Harris excerpt

Richard Dawkins has some pertinent comments on how ‘personal religious experiences’ come about which the ‘blind believer’ should learn:-

“The human brain runs first-class simulation software. Our eyes don’t present to our brains a faithful photograph of what is out there, or an accurate movie of what is going on through time. Our brains construct a continuously updated model” and….
“Constructing models is something the human brain is very good at. When we are asleep it is called dreaming; when we are awake we call it imagination or, when it is exceptionally vivid, hallucination. As Chapter 10 will show, children who have ‘imaginary friends’ sometimes see them clearly, exactly as if they were real. If we are gullible, we don’t recognize hallucination or lucid dreaming for what it is and we claim to have seen or heard a ghost; or an angel; or God; or – especially if we happen to be young, female and Catholic – the Virgin Mary. Such visions and manifestations are certainly not good grounds for believing that ghosts or angels, gods or virgins, are actually there. On the face of it mass visions, such as the report that seventy thousand pilgrims at Fatima in Portugal in 1917 saw the sun tear itself from the heavens and come crashing down upon the multitude’, are harder to write off. It is not easy to explain how seventy thousand people could share the same hallucination. But it is even harder to accept that it really happened without the rest of the world, outside Fatima, seeing it too – and not just seeing it, but feeling it as the catastrophic destruction of the solar system, including acceleration forces sufficient to hurl everybody into space.” From ‘The God Delusion’ by Richard Dawkins, p. 115.
This moon madness episode – incredibly bungled deception propaganda – is the latest in a lifetime of deceits by Sathya Sai Baba, as can be studied at leisure here.

Dr. G. Venkataraman writes in Part 4 of his 7-part series entitled “In Quest of Infinity” on his Radio Sai website “You know, when I think about it all, I am simply wonder struck. On one side of it is God who has created the Universe in which all these wonderful things happen. On the other side, there He is in human form in Parthi, going about as if He is not aware of any of the mysteries in the Universe” View excerpt scanned from that page (click here to view the scan and comments)
Source page on radio-sai

Dr. G. Venkataraman reviews at length developments in our scientific knowledge of the cosmos… though nothing scientific that is not found in hundreds of books and other media. Venkataraman was a physicist working for the Indian government’s nuclear programme. However, he has copied his information on astronomy from other scientific authorities. Yet he does not once attribute anything he reports to its originators or to other scientific sources! He has even plagiarised text from such as the  Dennis Dutton website, without any mention.

Outright plagiarism by a man given many Indian awards. This shows a lot about the system in India and how dishonest academics benefit from it.

Both text and an image at were ‘lifted’ from by Prof. G. Venkataraman, without acknowledgement.
He also took the following images, all  without acknowledgement:-
‘The Big Bang’ image from
‘An Expanding Universe’ from
‘The Periodic Table of Elements’ is from (on which he has even imposed the logo of Radio Sai!
‘The Chandra Telescope’ images come from
and from
The images of white dwarfs are falsely sub-titled “ sai” but they are taken  from
He uses copyright images from the Anglo-Australian Observatory at

This failure to cite any references in articles on science or academic subjects is regarded as dilettantism by scientists and scholars. The innocent and uneducated may well believe that Venkataraman  discovered such things himself, when he is simply promoting himself as if he were an authoritative researcher. This marks him out as bogus. In addition to this absence of basic scholarly standards, he has a pretentious main agenda. He presumes to inform us of 1) The Cosmic origin of man.  2) Man’s Cosmic connections. 3) Man’s Cosmic responsibilities, and 4) Man’s Cosmic Destiny, no less!
These (contra-feminist) titles alone reveal that he is setting himself up as some kind of ‘spiritual mouthpiece’, misusing science as a mere tool in an attempt to inculcate religious belief – preferably  faith in his Lord and Master, Sathya Sai Baba, as the Incarnation of God Almighty in this Age.

Venkataraman posts his various lessons and lectures on the website he directs, and he receives no peer comment, let alone criticism, from within the Sai Baba movement, and such is not permitted at all! At the Sathya Sai educational institutions – where servile respect for elders and what they teach is an unbroken rule, no teacher or student would ever are to put a critical question to Sai-luminaries.  Protected from any critical debate and intellectual inquiry in the passive circle of co-admirers of Sathya Sai Baba, Venkataraman is able – with his Lord and Master holding the chain behind him – figuratively to bark down anyone in his vicinity who might dare to question his undigested and highly doubtful views. However, the wider world of genuine research and discussion – where excellence arises from rigorous peer review and disputation – will not be impressed in the least.

Dr. Venkataraman writes – as if he knows directly and authoritatively – of God and his existence etc. (actually – he really thinks he knows God personally as Sathya Sai Baba!) All the signs of pseudo-philosophy on a wholly belief-driven agenda are there, for he only parrots Sathya Sai Baba’s beliefs and propaganda without any critical thought whatever, even when they are wholly preposterous and in conflict with the most established scientific and historical fact (see overview here).

Evidently, far too much now depends on it for him, evidently – prestige and pelf, employment and perks. Sai Baba is his God and patron, and Venkataraman is his beneficiary (having received from Sai Baba an expensive new Japanese car paid for by funds donated by well-meaning followers who thought the money would go to raise the poor instead! (such as myself, alas, having once contributed enough to buy a number of cars). Venkataraman did not refuse to accept the brand new Japanese vehicle as a personal gift from his Lord (who says he has no money or property anyhow) and so becomes yet more of a  consumer than before…  one who immorally accepts what amounts to a bribe for allegiance paid for by money donated for the good of the poor, unhealthy and uneducated! Under Sathya Sai Baba’s direction, he willingly compromised himself. [Four other Sai-VIP’s accepted identical free cars].

Miracle: Sai Baba spews out 3 tons of gold: he says

Posted by robertpriddy on August 25, 2007

Vomit causes breakdown

Sathya Sai Baba made a preposterous statement: (Anil Kumar’s translation directly after Sai Baba’s words in Telugu): “Out of the stomach emanated Shiva Lingas of the weight of three tonnes. That’s the reason why some strain on the face and the body.” see the BBC on the failed lingodbhava of Feburary 2004 (photos here) video clip also Sai Baba’s collapse and exit transcript and video clip of his famous explanation here)

Sai sicks up - no lingam

But no strain on his hand when he took it from the towel? He must have been VERY strong… but then God IS very strong, isn’t it?
No strain on the wooden table either…  Is there something a wee bit fishy and porky about Sai Baba’s explanation?

It was claimed that there were three lingams in all, one which we saw which came from his hanky, two more he was said to have ‘regurgitated’ in a private room after stumbling off stage! (Really!) Was that ONLY three tons? It’s all so hard to get to the bottom of this somehow… but then it was hard for the world-famous magician Houdini’s public to understand how he had invented the egg-regurgitating trick too!

So how could the Divine Will at the 2004 Shivarathri lingodbhava falter? Why did it all go pear-shaped in public? Was it a Divine Glitch? Or a “Divine test of credulity”?  A sudden reversal of polarity in the Divine Magnetic Power? Or was it that the lingam stuck in Sai Baba’s “magnetic” body somewhere along the line?

Last but not least, you could enter the world-wide competition to provide the solution – please post your answers in a plain brown envelope! Be the goose that lays that golden egg…

In his discourse after the Shivarathri lingodbhava two years previously (13/3/2002), Sai Baba stated: “(Showing the golden Linga to the devotees, Swami said). “As you can all see, this Linga is rather bigger in size. There is a meaning behind this. This is five Tolas in weight. [one Tola is 11.66 grams. 5 Tolas = about 60.0 grams] Every human being possesses five Tolas of gold essence known as Hiranyagarbha… Gold represents energy in man and is the cause of his radiance. The gold content within each body is this size only. It is gold essence in the body that makes the eyes see, ears hear etc.” (Sanathana Sarathi – April 2002, p. 127)
However, the human body cannot possibly contain so much gold! In Wikipedia we find that the amount of gold in the human body is vanishingly tiny

India and Pakistan celebrate independence, still at stalemate

Posted by robertpriddy on August 15, 2007

India-Pakistan face-off

This absurd and demeaning charade where Indian and Pakistani soldiers must strut like adversarial fighting cocks formalises the impossible stalemate situation sustained throughout by the governments and backed respectively by Muslim and Hindu religious leaders – despite the horrific massacres of Partition, two wars and a most terrible regular death toll in Kashmir. The conflict has led to the ever-increasing militarization of both countries and even a nuclear arms race.

Religious strife was the key to Partition.
Religious differences remain the scourge of the Indian sub-continent. It is mainly a Hindu-Muslim issue, though Sikhs and other denominations are party to the issues. Pamela Mountbatten, daughter of Lord Mountbatten, interviewed on BBC World (Hard Talk) this week, was asked what her father would have thought of India since Partition. She expressed the opinion that he would have deplored two things above all else: the sheer betrayal of constitutional promises to the rajputs, maharajas and independent states by Indira Gandhi during the 1970s Emergency and the Hinduization of the Indian Government, contrary to both the letter and spirit of the Constitution. In short, India is only a secular state on paper, but is dominated almost totally by Hindus, who suppress all religious, tribal and other non-Hindu minorities in every way they see fit.

Sathya Sai Baba shows he is powerless to intervene
One may ask why has Sathya Sai Baba – who claims to be all-powerful and all-knowing – never visited Pakistan?  He has annexed to himself the name of the saint (Sai Baba) of Shirdi, who always made great efforts – often successful – to remove strife and create unity between Hindus and Muslims. Sathya Sai talks glibly of unity of faiths but is himself the epitome of a Hindu guru – claiming to be God Incarnate and an avatar. Sathya Sai Baba has often demonstrated his ignorance of the tenets of other world faiths, and he does so most grandly as to Islam. No orthodox Muslim can ever accept an avatar or God Incarnate, for it breaks with the most fundamental tenet of their faith – that Allah is beyond all forms and can never be incarnated or even represented in a human form. No wonder that Sai Baba has but a small handful of followers who (confusedly) claim to be Muslims. Yet the Indian Government embraces him and totes him to surrounding nations as their ‘national treasure’! Sathya Sai is worshipped as the embodiment of all the Hindu deities and is overwhelmingly surrounded by Hindus and Hindu ceremonials and cultural traditions. How can he ever have been so ill-advised as to claim he would rule the world one day?

‘God’ patronising the poor in India?

Posted by robertpriddy on August 14, 2007

Avoid pomp

Note that Sathya Sai Baba is ever surrounded by material comforts and has had to do nothing whatever for himself for his entire adult life. This is in total contrast the lot of the vast population. Rather, Sathya Sai Baba speaks a great deal about the need to regenerate India’s faith in it’s glorious past, religious culture and to reform the country entirely. Now, the glory of the past is a miasma, unsupported by historical research. But Sai Baba is right about the need for an entire reform, if dissatisfaction with the system by more than half its population is anything to go by. However, the authoritarian guru-ridden religious and otherworldly undemocratic culture Sai Baba stands for is probably the last thing that would create a humanitarian and caring society… for both religious faith and superstition of the Sai Baba type – throughout India’s caste-ridden and violent past – have failed signally so far.

While many Indian gurus and swamis like Maharishi, Maharaji, Osho Rajneesh, Ravi Shankar etc. travel abroad to seek followers and financial fortunes – Sai Baba does not need to travel as the money flows in from abroad after four decades plus of intense proselytizing to foreigners. This comes not least from his original claims not to ask for anything, not to accept or own money, but purely to heal and bless, teach and give. At first he lived what appeared to be a life of considerable renunciation and the ashrams to which he invited foreigners were very Spartan and tough going… which he recommended as a cure for the soft life. All that has changed completely. The ashrams and surroundings at Puttaparthi and Whitefield have undergone a sea change – top class hotels, a gigantic property boom and higher and higher standards. The Indian middle classes were long the mainstay of Sai Baba, and their standards have prevailed. Sai Baba is known to all to favour the rich, speak more to those ladies with very luxurious saris. And to foreigners whose qualifications and riches are known to (and carefully monitored) by his staff. No one has seen a ragged and truly poor person enter his interview room for decades.

Flood problems hit India’s poor but not the rich

Posted by robertpriddy on August 13, 2007

flooding in India

Once again Indian Authorities gives low priority to its poorest citizens – 14 million flood victims. The top national Norwegian daily newspaper Aftenposten (9/8/07) reports that critics consider the Indian authorities should have done more to hinder death and destruction which comes of the yearly monsoon. “Every single year, the monsoons rain clouds gather over the Indian subcontinent, and every year thousands die in flood resulting from the predictable rains. India has been struck by an unusually heavy monsoon this year. Numerous experts say that Indian authorities could have done more to strengthen defences, build necessary dams and make evacuation plans. They point out that several years of preparations in Bangladesh have contributed to reducing this year’s sufferings. A permanent flood warning system was set up, but similar warnings do not exist in India. Nineteen million people have been driven from their homes in India. The flood banks in Bihar fell like card houses, says Rabri Devi, the acute opposition politician in the poor state of Bihar. Norway has sent ca. US $2.5 million in extra emergency aid to flood victims in South Asia.

The Indian leadership have other priorities than to compensate the worst hit

As reported on the web, here for example, we read: [ ] : “The national government has not organized any emergency relief. But it has this past week spent $1.6 billion on 66 Hawk Jets. One church agency is helping in 20 villages but there are 300 villages in one district of Chhattisgarh alone, and international aid agencies are absent. Local government help is limited to 200-500 rupees, ($5-$10) and even that goes only to a few homeless families, and a one-off ration of 7-10 pounds of rice. As in the recent flood in Argentina, corruption by officials is widespread. They have been refusing the meagre compensation to households headed by women and are as usual discriminating against Dalit and Tribal families.”

The current government has a PM and Ministers who are followers of Sathya Sai Baba

He has in the past called on his followers for service activities for flood and tsunami victims, but he has been silent this year, probably due to his increasingly reported senile symptoms. Despite many efforts by local authorities, there have been angry protests, road blocks and the kidnapping of an official by the affected who were neglected too long. Apart from paramilitary direct aid action to prevent death (the toll is near to 1,5000) The governmental devotees of Sai Baba (PM Singh, Home Minister and many more, including the new devotee President Patil) certainly appear to have no plans to provide adequate compensation for these flood victims – many of whom have lost everything and who are overwhelmingly poor people (in the eastern states of Bihar, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal). Rich interests constantly ignoring those of the poor. The help that is given, when it eventually arrives, is never sufficient to compensate the losers. Meanwhile the Indian economy races ahead and vast wealth is created, yet it is evidently NGOs and international relief agencies on which most of the survivors must depend to avoid mass hunger and disease.

Sai and Aristotle

We have to investigate why we lose our health. Excessive thinking, worrying and studying is the main cause for man’s illness. Some students are absorbed in studies all the time, because of which they lose their health. There is a limit to everything, the Greek philosopher, Aristotle, conducted extensive research on the digestive system of man and as a result of too much of thinking, his health deteriorated and ultimately he died of digestive problems.” Sathya Sai Baba. Sanathana Sarathi‘ Jan. 1999, p. 15.

Forgive that this is not exactly ‘breaking news’, but intriguing it is! Sai Baba admits that Aristotle studied the digestive system of man and then – in the usual garbled way – failed to make everything entirely clear. Let’s first assume Sai Baba was saying that Aristotle concluded that too much thinking leads to digestive problems and death (“ultimately”)? Then surely mankind today, with our vastly enhanced mental activities, mental professions, mental interests (the media, internet etc.) , must be suffering from digestive problems on an equally massive scale? But where is the evidence for that? In short, there is none. If there were, would it not be a massive medical breakthrough to revolutionise much medicine? It is more likely that Sai Baba confuses figurative ‘mental indigestion’ with the actual physical sort.

Sai Baba stated in so many words that Aristotle himself died of thinking too much, causing digestive problems caused by thinking too much (such as about human problems of thought and digestion)? There is no historical evidence for that protracted surmise, though (as Kasturi probably knew and told him) Aristotle reportedly did die of a ‘stomach ailment’, though not specifically indigestion. It was recorded that it was a ‘disease’ affecting his digestion, but could have been cancer or any number of other infectious ailments. If indeed too much thought was what really caused his death, how did Sai Baba arrive at that conclusion… by paranormal and divine powers, no doubt! Of course Aristotle “ultimately died”, uncontroversial… but was it that overripe peach, that indigestible Kalamata olive that caused his death… or was it from thinking? Or perhaps rather a result of Divine Will, Lord Yama’s inevitable decision (to which deity Sathya Sai also attributed the decision on every human death)? “There is a limit to everything” says Sai Baba… now, really? I read in Sai Baba Discourses many times that the Atma is limitless, that God is eternal and unencompassable. But it is reassuring too, for a limit to Sai Baba and his influence is also therefore promised. His death must be a bit of a limitation on his activities? No??

One must conclude once again that Sathya Sai Baba suffered for not thinking enough about what he said – or claimed to know… or from too much confusion of the mind (and bad dreams, which he also said in another context comes from bad digestion)? That he lost his health was observable to everyone… so was it from too little thinking? Was his digestion not well exercised and still perfect? I don’t know. So I leave it to readers to decide – and see whether their own digestive tracts are over-sensitive to thoughts – or how much they might dare to think so as to preserve themselves for as long as possible…

Super-Rich Indian Gurus who don’t deliver what they promise

Posted by robertpriddy on August 8, 2007

Billionaire Non-delivering ‘Spiritual gurus’ The ‘many-billion dollar question’ is not really so much how Sai Baba has generated such huge coffers, for this is almost ‘par for the course’ for Swamis, gurus and temples in India. Tirupathi is reckoned to be the most fabulous as to wealth, and the Puri Temple of Jagannath is not far behind. Sathya Sai Baba may still not have become top of the ‘national treasure’ pile yet. The self-entitled ‘Baghwan’ Sri Rajneesh (aka Osho) had vast sums before he was indicted by the US Government on so many criminal charges that he had to sell of cheaply his 84 tax-evasion Rolls Royces to a second-hand car dealer in Texas and flee justice, yet he still could lord it over most Indians financially when he settled in Pune. The sect of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is likewise in the money beyond any accounting, his people even having taken over an African state’s economy more or less! [One may pause to wonder whether all this – with the massed chanting of mantras etc. – has stopped drug taking, urban violence, terrorism and brought about peaceful communities and a better world, as the Maharishi has many times guaranteed it would? I’d say no more than Sathya Sai Baba’s promises that India would be transformed by now (due to his 1960s students’ taking over important positions) and become the moral and spiritual engine of the world in a Golden Age (which is long overdue after repeated but unacknowledged ‘postponements’ .

Rajneesh’ place

No, the question without a price tag is still why Sathya Sai Baba, who vociferously disdains ownership and filthy lucre, should be one of the richest persons and biggest property owners in that land of such poverties and sufferings? That he claims to own nothing is just a front for the gullible and his trusting followers, for it is a mere technicality. It is the Sathya Sai Central Trust and he rules over it totally, even signing every cheque, so he has stated himself in 1993. The tax-free charitable Central Trust remains essentially behind closed doors, no minutes revealed and no accountability for the expenditure. Is it’s wealth being properly used? Or squandered on too great a scale to build yet more temples and white elephant ‘spiritual museums’, all clearly designed and decorated so as to trumpet the name and fame of Sai Baba himself. Questions as to the misuse of funds expended in building an isolated Super-Speciality Hospital is cogently discussed in Serguei Badaev’s overview of the Sai Baba Super Speciality Hospitals’ wastefulness. If this had not been so, the answer would have been clear and acceptable.

The putative fact remains, Sai Baba’s monies are also used for gaining influence and political power, and without any visible beneficial effects on politics or politicians. The current state of political dishonesty, disinterest for the poor of India, and scams at all levels in India suggest nothing is changing, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer (certainly relative to each other and to the basic cost of living). Sathya Sai’s much heralded “Divine Plan” for changing India – promised to be soon even in the 1960s to Dr. J. Hislop in the well-known interviews he published is not a fact, but a vehicle of falsehoods and foolishly placed faith. See also ‘How far is it to dharma?‘ Ask devotees about it all and they will tell you “Baba has divinely good plans that no one but He can fathom. We are all but puny minds, how can we possibly know?” That is a great conversation stopper to end on!

The Sathya Sai Doctrine for Cover-up

Posted by robertpriddy on August 7, 2007

Sathya Sai with dark glasses

Sai Baba’s Dark- and Rose-coloured Glasses
One of Sai Baba’s well-known prescriptions is to hear, see and do only what is good, to put on “rose-coloured glasses” and view the world thereby. Nonetheless, Sai Baba himself constantly describes both the world, modern life, Indian society and even often his own devotees in far from ‘rosy’ terms! – seeing rather through ‘dark’ glasses. This is his stock-in-trade, to preach but act contrary to his words. He does, however, turn a ‘blind eye’ to the embezzlements and other crimes of his followers, not least towards the Kulwant Rai family, with whom he stays when in Delhi.

Sathya Sai Baba always encourages what he presents as a “healthy” tendency among his followers not to report on anything untoward. About him, his activities or connections. This tendency, to erase the traces of any unfortunate events at ashrams and ensure the silence of any visitor as far as can be done, is well known in religious cults. It is most unhealthy to suppress and censor facts, and this has a way of turning back on the culprits.

Truth and being constructive, however, presumes the fair and open recognition of facts and a minimum of frankness and honesty between people. The outward appearance of rosiness alone does not avert inevitable problems that come from this and from cover-ups of crimes, child abuse and sexual abuse. See also  here.

India – God-driven or God-forsaken?

Posted by robertpriddy on August 5, 2007

Sai Baba with the world in his hand

The words “God Lives in India” have been bandied about by numerous people, always referring to Sathya Sai Baba (who has proclaimed himself as God, Deity of All Deities). It is a film title, a song title, a book title and so on. Sai Baba has stated that God never incarnates as the Full Avatar anywhere else but in India and then only after many thousands of years, and now he has come as a triple incarnation in this disastrous Kali Age so as to save humanity. The implication – drawn firmly by Sathya Sai Baba himself, is that India is the only world culture to which God would deign to ‘descend’ because it is the ‘most spiritual’ and is the only country in which all genuine and full incarnations of God have ever incarnated (from Vishnu on through Krishna, Rama etc. etc.).

This kind of ‘God claim’ may make many Indians – even its lowly peasants – proud of their country – which possibility is not ignored by vote-hungry politicians and their supporters. It also underpins the absurd extreme nationalism of the Indian rulers, as witnessed in the utterly childish daily face-offs supported by the authorities for decades at the border vis-a-vis Pakistan, just for a start. Meanwhile, much of the callous and grasping ruling class are content to allow huge parts of all cities to be vast and growing slums, and the dwellers are treated by police and the law if they had no rights (which is often the case legally). Consequently, the mafias are often their only remaining line of defense against summary eviction.

In support of a rising New India, with genuine equality rather than bogus spirituality!I write this blog not least in support of the majority population of India, that is, the dispossessed majority of over 600 million of its inhabitants who lack social justice and even have no real equality before the law, being entrapped within a corrupt system, – and I do NOT to support the many corrupted and self-seeking ruling politicians and privileged castes. That India is a land of “the direst calamities” is a fact pointed out even by Sathya Sai Baba (from his insulated luxury fortress-palaces and the benefits of his money-laden tax-free Sathya Sai Central Trust). Sathya Sai Baba’s still far too neglected ‘backyard’ is a ‘flawed democracy’ (as a ‘Times’ of India editorial names it – see here) from which Sai Baba recently stated that he is minded to travel on tour abroad, breaking his oft-repeated promise to clean things up in India before setting foot anywhere else! Such are most of the promises he makes and the otherworldly and moralistic ‘spirituality’ he mostly promotes!

Is [traditional] India a spiritual country?
Judging by the state of human rights and its decadent social practices, corrupt political decision-making and huge injustices and inequalities, India is not a spiritual country at all. It is also plagued by the old guard’s vast militaristic spending, far from Gandhi’s peaceful ideals.  ‘Spirituality’ is meaningless it it is not practiced in daily living and embedded in a society’s practices and practical values in real life. India is rather an overwhelmingly religiously superstitious country in which the goodwill and relative ignorance and powerlessness of the lowly is exploited to the extreme though widespread political and business corruption. This is part of India’s traditional caste-ridden way of life! The violent and consistent suppression of minorities, Muslims, Dalits, indigenous native populations, hiras, bonded labourers, and many other minorities is sustained by callous impassivity and top-down corruption in much of the police, judiciary and governing bodies. Indian leaders, in the main (with a minority of honourable and courageous exceptions), have the most hardened consciences towards the gigantic number of poor and suffering and their crying needs (over 40% being officially regarded by UNO as living below the poverty line). The gap between India’s rich and poor is mind-boggling!

As to ‘spirituality’, while India’s millions are worshipful and passive, this is also a land of frequent communal carnage (eg. Hindus vs. Muslims) and bomb blasts galore, massive female infanticide, religious killings (of Christians), extreme beggary, horrific mutilations of babies to make them into beggars (as ‘rat children’, ‘spidermen’, diverse amputees) major human organ theft, literal ‘witch-hunts’ and black magic killings, physical and sexual child abuse on a massive scale, millions of children labouring under dreadful condition, and enormous health problems, utter discrimination against widows and many more ills that no truly democratic country wouldcountenance. The seriousness is still very widely denied by Indian politicians, despite many and constant international studies and warnings. Even worse, most of the sufferers are treated as total outcasts by most Indian communities (AIDs, lepers. polio sufferers and many other diseases largely eradicated elsewhere), not least because of the heartless ideas so widely held there about divine retribution as ‘karma’ for sins in past lives. Above all, Sathya Sai Baba has never confronted any of these issues or spoken up to defend the victims or attack the perpetrators!

God Lives in India

Posted by robertpriddy on August 4, 2007

The title phrase ‘God Lives in India’ – [meaning that Sathya Sai Baba is God and he lives in India] has been used for a film by Jan Dorresteijn, a song album by the Bailey sisters, a book by R. Karanjia and is often cited by Sai Baba writers. The implication drawn by many Indian devotees of Sathya Sai is that therefore God does NOT live anywhere else. The absurdity of a God Creator who ‘lives in’ one particular country is self-evident, though most devotees cannot even see this! God would not be located in any one place, if in any place at all! However, blinded by the claims of Sathya Sai Baba – with his delusions of grandeur – millions of Indians apparently need to believe this for also to boost condifence in their nation and themselves. For Sai Baba has time and time again emphasised how Indian pride should be based not least on the reasons for his incarnation there as the first God ‘avatar’ descended to earth for many thousands of years.

On Google we also find this by Jed Geyerhahan, who has charged Sai Baba with sexually molesting him on the Danish film ‘Seduced by Sai Baba’:-
“God lives in India”. Now that I knew how Baba cheats, I picked up on the part of “God lives in India” where he is cheating materializations of Vibuti.  I did not bother to watch any other movies though.  That was enough evidence for me.

Note, however, that the link( is now dead, since the Sai apologist Bon Giovanni surely found it best to suppress the material, for it is very compromising. The vital clip showing sleight-of-hand was preserved nonetheless (study it here)

In the 1990s a film called ‘God Lives in India’ was made in the Netherlands. It has disappeared from most sources, probably because it showed a major case of sleight-of-hand by Sathya Sai Baba, who pretended to make vibuthi for devotees, but was caught in the act of deceit. As to the film ‘God Lives in India’ one can see the following exchange on the web:

The same title was used by an Indian journalist: “GOD LIVES IN INDIA. R.K. Karanjia. 111 p. pap. $ 4.95”.
