Sathya Sai Baba’s India stable?

Posted by robertpriddy on January 5, 2009

“The fame and fortune of Bharat is truly great. While several countries of the world have faced calamities of various kinds, Bharat has remained stable. It is a country richly endowed with a variety of wealth.” (from Sathya Sai Baba’s Convocation Discourse 22-11-2008)

Comment: This is vague rambling talk: “several countries of the world” (which ones?) “have faced calamities of several kinds”, (what sort of calamities?). However “Bharat has remained stable” Why do the translators use Bharat and not just India? Probably because Sathya Sai Baba is ever harping back to ancient days of Bharat as described in myths? In any case, Indian can hardly be said to have remained any more stable than countless other countries, and it is a more unstable place than most modern countries today, no one can doubt that. There is an entire catalogue of instabilities in India’s entire past and present

Among notable present instabilities is the stand-off over 60 years with Pakistan, nowadays with nuclear weapons involved, and presently much aggravated again by the Mumbai terrorist attacks which this self-proclaimed ‘all-knowing divinity’ failed to mention just a few days before they happened. As is known he made a huge blunder – removed by most of his editors – in claiming India was free of all fear of bombs and attacks! (See Sai Baba bomb claim demolishes his credibility). The list of other “instabilities’ seems endless. To mention a few more: the constant conflict with the suppressed in Manipur, the long series of bomb attacks across the sub-continent, the killing of Christians, the mutual outbursts of mass slaughter between Hindus and Muslims, still continuing since the Indian Partition holocaust. Add to this 800 million deprived people, half of them virtually under the bread line, no proper public health care or common old age pensions, a massive AIDS epidemic… one could go on for pages and pages. So Sathya Sai Baba is talking through his hat about Bharat.

The ultra-simplistic ‘philosophy’ of Sathya Sai Baba:

“Suppose a person whom you consider as an enemy is approaching you; you offer your pranams to him and enquire, “Hello, how are you, brother?” Immediately the other man will respond saying, “How are you brother?” He will not get angry. Why? Since you called him brother, he will also treat you in the same way. It is in your language that either love and faith or enmity and distrust in the other person is displayed.” (ibid)

Tell that to the Marines, to the contenders in the Israel-Palestine conflict, to Mugabe and his ‘friends’, to the Taliban, Al Quaida… One can just see Sathya Sai Baba telling them in person! He, who lives ensconced in a regular fortress, guarded by special undercover agents and surrounded by carefully-vetted and closely-searched devotees, dares not even talk to anyone who disagrees with him. Who is he to give advice? Well, we know who he thinks he is!

Sai Baba and India’s atomic arsenal

Posted by robertpriddy on September 17, 2007

India’s ballistic nuclear missiles
Sathya Sai Baba’s hypocrisy is to say one thing, do the opposite

Few issues show Sathya Sai Baba’s hypocritical double-standard more distinctly than his various statements of the past against atomic weapons, while all the time he has been supporting and honouring some of India’s formost militarists. In former days he argued that India needed no nuclear weapon, and made the prophesy that all those nations which rely on these will themselves be turned to ashes! He gave the so-called “father of India’s atomic bomb”, Dr. S. Bhagavantam a foremost place in his entourage, until Bhagavantam left him in the early 1980s! Since then he has repeatedly honoured the instigator of the India-Pakistan nuclear arms race, former Prime Minister Atal Vihari Vajpayee and his party (the Bharatiya Janata Party which revelled in 2000 in the explosion of Indian nuclear devices). Not a word of criticism has Sai Baba made about the vast military spending of this and other governments, nor – of course-  has he criticised India’s production of more atomic weapons and the delivery vehicles. On the contrary, he has embraced the ex-President Kalam at repeated interviews and honoured him very pointedly in public, but this was the man who designed the delivery vehicle for India’s nuclear weapons capable of hitting Pakistan!

Sathya Sai Baba preaches peace and non-violence, so he could hardly have been in favour of nuclear weapons, especially when India was taking a moralistic line against the big nuclear powers (despite having exploded one device already themselves). Now that India is adopting a big power threatening capacity itself with nuclear weapons, he is completely silent! Not only that, he is ever lending moral and propaganda support indiscriminately to Indian governments and their leaders in his discourses. Here we see that Sai Baba’s main agenda is to gain personal power, influence and money regardless of any any moral price. See more detail and documentation here.

>Here are some of Sai Baba’s former statements about atomic weapons. In the first he has talk about the very same difference between preaching and practice evident in his words and actions! That is chutzpa!

But many, many more crores are now being wasted, but the self-proclaimed ‘Omnipotent’ Lord God, worshipped as such by a line of feet-kissing Prime Ministers never says a word about this militarism and misuse of India’s riches, while 200 million have to get by on less than US$ 1/2 per day and 800 million Indians still live on less than $2 a day!

India and Pakistan celebrate independence, still at stalemate

India-Pakistan face-off

This absurd and demeaning charade where Indian and Pakistani soldiers must strut like adversarial fighting cocks formalises the impossible stalemate situation sustained throughout by the governments and backed respectively by Muslim and Hindu religious leaders – despite the horrific massacres of Partition, two wars and a most terrible regular death toll in Kashmir. The conflict has led to the ever-increasing militarization of both countries and even a nuclear arms race.

Religious strife was the key to Partition.
Religious differences remain the scourge of the Indian sub-continent. It is mainly a Hindu-Muslim issue, though Sikhs and other denominations are party to the issues. Pamela Mountbatten, daughter of Lord Mountbatten, interviewed on BBC World (Hard Talk) this week, was asked what her father would have thought of India since Partition. She expressed the opinion that he would have deplored two things above all else: the sheer betrayal of constitutional promises to the rajputs, maharajas and independent states by Indira Gandhi during the 1970s Emergency and the Hinduization of the Indian Government, contrary to both the letter and spirit of the Constitution. In short, India is only a secular state on paper, but is dominated almost totally by Hindus, who suppress all religious, tribal and other non-Hindu minorities in every way they see fit.

Sathya Sai Baba shows he is powerless to intervene
One may ask why has Sathya Sai Baba – who claims to be all-powerful and all-knowing – never visited Pakistan?  He has annexed to himself the name of the saint (Sai Baba) of Shirdi, who always made great efforts – often successful – to remove strife and create unity between Hindus and Muslims. Sathya Sai talks glibly of unity of faiths but is himself the epitome of a Hindu guru – claiming to be God Incarnate and an avatar. Sathya Sai Baba has often demonstrated his ignorance of the tenets of other world faiths, and he does so most grandly as to Islam. No orthodox Muslim can ever accept an avatar or God Incarnate, for it breaks with the most fundamental tenet of their faith – that Allah is beyond all forms and can never be incarnated or even represented in a human form. No wonder that Sai Baba has but a small handful of followers who (confusedly) claim to be Muslims. Yet the Indian Government embraces him and totes him to surrounding nations as their ‘national treasure’! Sathya Sai is worshipped as the embodiment of all the Hindu deities and is overwhelmingly surrounded by Hindus and Hindu ceremonials and cultural traditions. How can he ever have been so ill-advised as to claim he would rule the world one day?
