Malaysian lawyer on sexual abuses of students by Sai Baba (cont.)

Posted by robertpriddy on March 14, 2014

Having had a long exchange of e-mails with the prominent Malaysian lawyer, Mr. Hariram Jayaram,, which he had asked me not to post then, I am now able to release these exchanges as a memorandum to the honour of an honest and decent gentleman who – learning in the early 1980s of sexual abuses of Malaysian student at his college by Sathya Sai Baba – stood up against the powerful and rich Sathya Sai Organisation to expose the facts. Earlier mails have already appeared here and here

On May 18, 2004, Hariram Jayaram wrote to me about Sai Baba factions in Malaysia, one led by J. Jegathesan. At that time (late 70s) Hariram travelled the length and breath of West Malaysia to encourage various Sai Baba bhajan groups and show the 35mm films he had bought from the United States. Eventually  two ‘leaders’ emerged in the Malaysian Sai movement, Jegathesan and Hariram himself. .Sai Baba recognised Hariram’s contributions and gave him his robe, also inviting him to come and teach law in his college permanently.

Back in Kuala Lumpur, Hariram was told by a devotee that he had received a telephone call from his sister to the effect that his nephew, a student at Puttaparthi College, was back home for holidays and had strange stories to tell about Sai Baba, and that he was not going back to the College because this uuru was a homosexual and fraud. Hariram was able to question this boy thoroughly later.  Another boy from Malaysia dropped out from the same college and went to continue studies in New Zealand.

At that point Hariram decided to investigate and, with a devotee friend and his nephew, he went over to Puttaparthi, Whitefield and Bangalore. Spending several days in India, Hariram met two other Malaysian male students and several Indian students, discovering from them that Sai Baba was carrying on a large-scale homosexual activities with several students. The students explained to him how Sai Baba was making vibhuthi and that every ‘miracle’ of his constituted a bluff, him having no powers at all.

On June 9, 2004. In 1980 Hariram also learned of two Indian student bothers who were studying in a Sai Baba college. When they had returned home for holidays, the younger brother complained to the parents that Sai Baba had carried out homosexual activities on him. The devotee parents were naturally shocked, but the elder brother who was not molested by Sai Baba, asked them not to believe his younger brother’s allegations, being crazy to have cast such aspersions on the living God. The parents took the older brother’s side.

Referring to the persistent rumours of all kinds that always circulated in the Sai Baba movement , one went “God is fractured”, that Sai Baba has fractured his leg, but Hariram could not tell if this was true.

Interestingly, Sathya Sai Baba’s  the hip injury occurred over 1 year earlier, but the news had been suppressed by the Malaysian Sathya Sai Organisation, as was invariably done wherever possible throughout all the world branches whenever anything remotely negative about Sai Baba arose, and continues to be so to this day!  The hip injury caused Sai Baba to take to a wheelchair for the rest of his life, so the facts could not be entirely hidden, though they were given fantastic interpretations by followers so as to preserve the cherished  illusion of his divinity!

On June 11, 2004, Hariram wrote that he had traced the name of the American student who was in Puttarparthi in the late 70s, a Californian whistle blower who he had come to know when making investigations with the help of Malaysian students. This was Terry Scott, who had been sexually abused and left the college in 1980 and returned to USA, telling of it in the USA. Scott had given him a pamphlet made by college students which gave  a step by step analysis on how Sai Baba made vibuthi. After reading that pamphlet, Hariram beame an expert in producing it before all those who came to see him to ask why he had dropped out from the Sathya Sai Baba cult.

Another rumour of which Hariram had not know but was rife in Malaysia was that Shanti (Datuk J. Jegathesan’s wife), committed suicide. Having made discreet enquiries, Hariram learned that the rumour had been around for a long time.  a

See comment submitted by E. Weed, as follows:- “These are very important details about the widespread number of children that were abused, and the widespread knowledge of sb being a fraud and child molester! How appalling, though completely understandable, that it went on for so many decades without him paying for his actions. How many times have we heard of similar cases of people in positions of power and wealth, who could do similar things (such as Jerry Sandusky in USA, Jimmy Savile in UK, and countless Catholic priests)? Though sb claiming to be god himself, the avatar of the age, and continuing to abuse on a daily basis, is even more outrageously evil.”

Supreme Court of India cover-up: petition ad Sathya Sai Baba rejected

Posted by robertpriddy on August 13, 2010

Evidence and documentary proof of failed petition to the Supreme Court of India. The attempt to prosecute Sathya Sai Baba a decade ago was rejected in a most corrupt manner by a Sai Baba worshipping judiciary:-

From: “Hari Sampath”
Date: 8 May 2001 17:05:17 GMT+02:00
To:,,,,, (AND MANY MORE – addresses and names suppressed)
Subject: Supreme court refuses….
Dear All,

In what has been described by all observers as a “shocking” decision, the Supreme court refused to even hear the petition yesterday.
The Judge who heard it last week in the preliminary , Justice Agarwal (who said “these things have been going on for decades” ) was scheduled to be hearing the petition. In the last minute, he was suddenly transferred to another case by the Chief justice Anand, a Sai Baba folower, who appointed his right hand man, a corrupt judge called Lahoti to hear the case.

As soon as Kamini Jaiswal and Prashant Kumar started opening the case, this judge started posing all sorts of absolutely stupid questions, with NO LEGAL BASIS.

Here is what happened as recounted to me by Prashant Kumar.

Kamini Jaiswal : May I proceed with the case introduction ?

Judge Lahoti : Wait….there is a problem with the affidavit of the petitioner, I want it clarified.

Kamini : There is absolutely nothing wrong, the affidavit is perfectly fine.

Judge Lahoti : Why is the affidavit dated April 5th 2001 and you are coming up only now with the petition , in May ?

Kamini : The affidavit was signed by the petitioner and had to be mailed, along with his petition. The petition had to be mailed to him first so that he could sign it.

Judge Lahoti : How can that take more than a month ? This is an old affidavit , then.

Kamini : If you notice the address of the petitioner, he is in the United States, and mail takes a few days to reach there and then back here to India. We filed the petition more than 10 days back, citing reasons for urgent mention, and according to the court order, the case was posted for today. That is why we are here now.

Judge Lahoti : Well…it seems that the petitioner is in USA,it is my mistake. Anyway there are other reasons I want to clarify this petition. Why are you approaching the Supreme court ? We don’t want to hear this petition, please go to the High court in Andhra Pradesh.

Kamini : The reasons are clearly mentioned in the petition, and we are filing the petition under Article 32 of the constitution, which gives us the right to come to the Supreme court.

Judge Patnaik (second judge) : Why was the petition not filed in the Andhra High court under Article 226 ? Go to the High court.

Kamini : That is what I am coming to, Article 32 and Article 226, both grant the same rights in the Supreme court and High court respectively…..either option can be pursued. If I may proceed with my argument, I will explain why…

Judge Lahoti : No… go to the High court…

Kamini : Can I at least have a hearing ?

Judge Patnaik : ok.. go on…

(Kamini begins her arguments, and starts detailing all the media reports about Sai Baba, the statements of sexual molestation, etc….. when she reaches the point about UNESCO…. she is interrupted)

Judge Patnaik : This court doesn’t want to hear this petition, go to the Andhra High court.

Kamini : But I have not even come to the point explaining why we choose to file under Article 32 in Supreme court…

Judge Lahoti : You can do the same under Article 226 in Andhra Court…

Kamini : But that exactly is what I was going to say, about why I cannot do that there, can I please continue ?

Judge Patnaik : Why are you here, why don’t you go to Andhra ?

Kamini : It is clearly stated in the petition, and I am coming to that…

Judge Lahoti : what grounds ?

Kamini : The respondent Sai Baba has a 60,000 million rupee empire in Andhra Pradesh, with total control over the entire state government… how can we go there ? There are also lot of other political influences …

Judge Patnaik : No, we are not going to allow this petition here, go to the Andhra High court..

Kamini : But if this was the issue, we could have been informed 10 days back, we were asked to come today…

Judge Patnaik : We are going to dismiss the petition.

Kamini : On what grounds ?

Judge Lahoti : We do not have to cite any reason for dismissing it..

Kamini : Can you at least give a ruling “with liberty to go to Andhra High court” ?

Judge Patnaik : No I am not going to do that.

Kamini : But that is what you were saying all along , if you want us to go to the Andhra High court, and if that is the reason you are not hearing this petition, can you please put it in writing ? We can then take it to the Andhra High court .

Judge Patnaik : No , I just asked you why you are here, and said that you should be in the Andhra High court. I am not going to include that in the ruling.

Kamini : Can we at least withdraw the petition from this court, and approach the Andhra High court ?

Judge Lahoti : you could approach the Andhra High court if you want to, but we are going to call this petition “dismissed”, and not allow you to withdraw it.

Judge Patnaik : Petition dismissed, no reasons are given by this court. That is the ruling .

As we can clearly see, this “hearing” was rigged and blatantly violating all legal norms.

The whole proceeding took less than 10 min… with the judges constantly interrupting Kamini Jaiswal…. and repeatedly raising irrelevant questions, without giving her a chance to explain the legal reasons why she was representing in the supreme court.

That judge Lahoti is notorious as a “Chief justice Anand’s hit man”, who had been cleverly appointed at the last minute, replacing Justice Barucha and Justice Agarwal, who heard it last week.

It is very very obvious why they were so eager to “dismiss” the petition, without a complete hearing, and also not give a ruling that we could approach Andhra High court, although they stated it orally.

They want us to go to Andhra High court, and everybody knows what will happen there. There will not even be a formality of a hearing in Andhra.

Scan proving the Supreme Court's rejection of a petition against Sathya Sai Baba

The scan that proves definitively that Sathya Sai Baba was protected by the Supreme Court of India and could not be tried, let alone convicted.

Worse yet, shortly after their rejection of the Petition lodged by Hari Sampath, the Supreme Court of India deleted all public documentation of it having been made. The British Ambassador to India attempted to get confirmation of the rejection by the Supreme Court but there was no record of it! Nonetheless, a copy of the formal rejection paper was preserved and a scan of that attested document is here:-

At that time, the Governor of Andhra Pradesh had once been none less than the private driver for Sathya Sai Baba ! One can imagine the chances of a petition to the AP High Court. In a mail from Basava Premanand to the Danish film director Øjvind Kyrø, who produced the Danish National TV Documentary ‘Seduced’ (by Sai Baba), he stated:

“Regarding murders in 6.6.1993 I went up to the Supreme Court and though the apex court ordered the police to take action against the accused as per the investigation by CB-CID the case was closed by the Andhra Government. Now that the government is changed and the present Chief Minister and Governor of Andhra Pradesh are fans of mine. We have put in a petition to get it opened and the Governor has agreed to meet me.”

However, despite sustained efforts to re-open the case, Premanand’s petition was totally disregarded right up until his death last year. This shows the pull that Sathya Sai Baba and his minions had in the corridors of power in India, especially the top of the Indian Government (which they still have).

Student sex abuse testimony has come out all the time

Posted by robertpriddy on July 11, 2010

Though many young men have not been comfortable in telling of their experiences with Sathya Sai Baba – for obvious reasons of the dangers it may involve and not least due to internet harassment etc. – they have contacted some of us privately ad in strict confidence.Others have posted anonymously on various bulletin boards, discussion groups and the Sai petition.

The following mail was originally sent Sathya Sai Baba Discussion Club, message 1082 and 1285 Date 18 november 2000 – 13.44 It was also posted at (no longer on-line) now found at

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you regarding your article in India today last week relating to the abuse allegations I am now an ex devotee of Sai Baba and have been a devotee since 1985 and have undertaken two pilgrimages to Puttaparthi in 1990 & 92 I went to the ashram with a group from London led by Aimee Levy in November 1990 during which time I was about to turn 29 and was taken with the group for an interview a few days after arriving during the interview he materialised vibhuti and took a ring off one lady told her she had a good heart and blew on it and it was supposedly transformed into a white gold and emerald ring another chap received a watch. During the interview he gave a short discourse on the nature of god and shortly thereafter looked at me and said

Swami: Are you well?
David: Yes Swami!!
Swami: What do you do? -Work?
David: Aromatherapy Swami
Swami What??
Aime Levy: massage Swami
Swami: yes yes very strong!
Swami: you have wife??
David: No swami!
Swami: Girlfriend?
David; No swami
Swami: I see!! Before!!
Swami: Do you love swami??
David Yes swami!!!
Swami: how much??
David: very much swami!

At this point he talked with others for a few moments and the said to me come and extended his hand for me to help him up and around the devotees sat around the interview room and the took me into the inner sanctum as I walked into the room I was holding in my right hand a cassette tape called “road to prashanthi” which had been recorded by a friend of mine who was wishing for it to be blessed, Swami then closed the door and was stand ing and front of me when he then touched my penis through the suit i was wearing and said “What’s this” a little embarrassed I said “tape swami” and thrust the tape i was holding up towards him he said “yes Yes but what’s this and touched me again” “undo” he said motioning to white pyjama type suit I was wearing which I did but was somewhat confused at this point he then pulled my underwear down below my scrotum and said “sometimes you dissipate too much energy this way” he let the underwear ping up and then waved his hand in the fashion he does and apparently materialized some oil and rubbed it on the pubic region above the penis and around the stomach and told me to ” do up” after which he said to me ” sometimes you get depressed with your work I will bless your work!! And with a cock of his head smiled and said all your work”! He then took me to the outer room back to the group where he talked a while longer and i sat wondering what had happened. After a short time he disappeared behind his curtain and came back with a basket full of small packets of vibhuti which he gave to all devotee’s he came to me and said” you would like swami to make a ring for you! I will but not now some other time! After which the interview was concluded. During my second trip the interview was almost the same except i was not drawn into the back room this time and the talk he had with me on that occasion was almost a carbon copy of the first time but as I stood up to leave at the conclusion of the second interview he whacked me in the testicles with the back of his hand and it was a deliberate move.

At this point I would like to say that although I was somewhat confused by the events i tried to rationalise it by thinking he was balancing one of the energy centres when another Indian devotee who was questioning me about my interview said ” No No Swami is doing this because all the time you are wanking” I must say I felt a complete idiot and some what humiliated by that but nevertheless was still in awe of sai baba but was already feeling something was a miss and this feeling became stronger during 1992 which I feel is better discussed elsewhere. However I feel that murmurings that those of us who have the courage to speak out are being labelled anti Indian or anti Hindu is complete nonsense I and many other ex devotee’s and victims still have great respect for India and her people and the fact that we feel cheated by this man who is quite clearly now shown as a charlatan has nothing whatsoever to-do with being anti Hindu we still have great respect for all faiths it is Just Sai Baba and his organisation that are in doubt and should be taken to task one of the main reasons I am writing this is to confirm that these “Oilings” do indeed take place which has been denied by a spokesperson for the U.K Sai organisation in a recent interview on a BBC Radio4 programme called This Is Sunday which was broadcast on Nov 19th my view is if they are lying about this what else are they lying about. I do not personally know any other “moles tees” and can not comment on their experiences I can only give a true account of what I myself have experienced But certainly it seems to me that both the organisation in India and abroad as well as Sai Baba himself requires thorough investigation especially relating to incidents such as the bedroom murders.

I hope this clarifies the situation somewhat for you

Yours sincerely

David Paul

Falsehood and infamy – Sathya Sai Baba

Posted by robertpriddy on July 5, 2010

“There are some jealous and petty minds who do false and imaginary propaganda. I take no note of this”

but Sai Baba noted that he does notice… just there!
He sees the need to combat what he knowing lies is ‘imaginary propaganda’ and so he must have been moved to notice it to respond like this! All can see that Sai Baba badly wants to limit the damage to his movement and especially to foreign donations.

“In the single family of humankind, where is the room for jealousy or hatred? These are all imaginary.”
I suppose Baba means among Arabs, terrorists, the most jingoistic Americans perhaps? He is still offering the pseudo-philosophy of ‘whatever you imagine, is true for you’. This may be an effective way of influencing those who can’t face the staring facts… and so choose to follow that old, old trick of mental enslavement, ‘The guru is never wrong, doubt only yourself!’

A frequently repeated complaint by Sathya Sai Baba, parroted by devotees, is that he has through the years been charged with unfair and undocumented accusations of many kinds. Both by sceptics and disaffected followers. These latter he fatuously claims were ‘dissatisfied’ or disappointed by unfulfilled expectations as to getting his, Sai Baba’s attention. Not so at all – not a few of these apostates could never wish to see him, [let along touch him, after what they have learned about him]. Sai devotees call the critics ‘disgruntled’, when many are righteously disgusted and disillusioned by having found him out for what he is – a major deceiver and an impure person, according to over 30 young mens’ testimonies of sexual molestation by him.

His cowed defensiveness towards all who have left him is seen when he churns out his usual illogical defence against criticisms:
“Stones are thrown only on fruit-bearing trees. Similarly, good people receive brickbats.” (Sanathana Sarathi September 2002, p. 267)

But some people who do very bad things receive more brickbats and deserve them! Sai Baba overlooks that the ‘bad men’ of whom he himself sometimes speaks (mainly in interviews) also sometimes receive brickbats. He is certainly a case in point!

In Sanathana Sarathi (11-92, p. 261) we read, “The minds of the so-called devotees are turned in the wrong direction. If their desires are fulfilled, they praise Me. But, once a desire is not realised they go to the extent of even reviling me. Even while they are attempting to understand Me, they harbour doubts from head to foot. Some even leave me, when their worldly desires are not fulfilled.” He also took the transparent precaution of warning devotees that he will have to separate “the grain from the chaff”, as if it were his own plan that devotees who cease to believe or accept him are rejected by him firstly! So he is not at all so powerful as he claims and maybe actually sometimes imagines.

One cannot but note that such precautionary smokescreens are most convenient for those who know they have something to hide. Much that will not stand the light of day has already come to light and his reputation is fading as the word spreads. No follower has not heard some of the reasons, however much they run away mentally from the facts (and knowing more such facts). This is the very nature of longer term mindless ‘surrender’ and blind servility and sacrifice to a God-figure whom they hope upon hope may help them out and deliver them from whatever bad may be to come.

Sathya Sai Baba defends himself by saying he predicted this all along. He KNEW he would be found out eventually because of the sheer scale and depravity of the abuses of which he stands accused and from which he hides from prosecution behind his many devotee judges and Prime Ministers.

Sai Baba loses his cool and lies blatantly about his critics!

See the entire infamous and unforgiving Christmas Day 2000 Discourse here.

The present writer was unable, for obvious reasons, to sustain faith in Sai Baba’s statements or many of his much-blazoned activities. I have come to know that he is by no means infallible, nor is it remotely possible that he all that he claims to be. He seems to possess so-called paranormal powers, which many others have done (and often people of a non-spiritual nature). Further, he has dark sides of which even some very frequent interviewees have no knowledge. Though I have never myself noticed sexual behaviour on his part, the evidence from many countries through decades has piled up to an extent where abuse cannot seriously be denied.

Interview with Sathya Sai Baba – 2002

Posted by robertpriddy on June 26, 2010

Sathya Sai Baba gave an interview to Russian ladies. It is mostly the same in content as thousands of interviews, the same words to the same questions. The same superficial and flawed answers, but this time introducing a couple of new howlers of the kind only Sai Baba can manage in all seriousness. Why the website posts such rubbish would be a mystery, but evidently those responsible do not realise the absurdity:-

Sathya Sai Baba shows huge ignorance of cancer etc. at interview
See the following on-line information:
Cancer in Wild Animals
Cancer also occurs in wild animals. Some well documented examples of cancer in wild animals include facial tumors in Tasmanian devils, fibropapillomatosis in sea turtles, and genital carcinoma in sea lions.
(See here)

There are research programmes around the world into animal cancer, such as: Research program on cancer in animals and birds at Cornell University
The Secretary of Agriculture shall conduct a program of basic research on cancer in animals and birds at appropriate facilities within the Department of Agriculture or by grants to other qualified research facilities.

Many wild animals suffer from tuberculosis too, like rhinos and wild boars etc. but Sai Baba is unaware of the fact! See here

“Fish is therefore gets poisoned” writes the pidgin Sai-students of Sai Baba concludes that, because there is marine pollution (from bombs?), fish is not good. One may perhaps ask, “All fish, swami?” and “Are all the oceans so polluted?”

Swami Nithyananda scandal – jail, no bail

Posted by robertpriddy on April 23, 2010

Swami Nityananda is seen on a video caressing an Indian actres on a bed etc.s accused of sexual

Swami Nityananda, trying to cover up the sex video evidence, contradicting himself time and again

Having fled the arm of the law to the Himalayas, Nithyananda has been caught and removed into custody in Bangalore, awaiting trial (along with several of his associates). He is charged under section 295 (a) – deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious belief. See here. Important documents have and large sums of money have reportedly been seized.

Swami Nithyananda’s break of trust with his estimated 2 million ‘followers’ is very serious. He is another bogus ‘godman’ among the many in India, and that he has been jailed without bail is itself a positive step in that it shows that Indian civil society is not entirely without power to punish false gurus and protect the gullible from investing their energies and money is him and all the otherworldly promises on which he can never deliver.  Many Indians have spoken out against gurus to an unprecedented extent as a result of the Nithyananda scandal.

However, at the same time it, Nithyananda’s influence – though the numbers claimed are doubtless vastly inflated – are as nothing besides the megalomaniac claims of Sathya Sai Baba. If anyone deserved to come under legal scrutiny it is  Sathya Sai Baba, whose involvement in cold-blooded murder of four devotees was covered-up by the Indian Government (CBI investigation quashed totally through former Indian Home Minister S.B. Chavan and Prime Minister Narasimha Rao). Then there is the infamy of Sathya Sai Baba’s known sexual molestation (i.e. genital oiling of young men in private on their private parts, accepted as ‘spiritual healing’ by many of his officials) and further the mass of worldwide allegations of his outright perverse sexual abuses that often follow on genital ‘anointing’. (See interview on this to the BBC Khushwant Singh: genital oiling, lingams, followers etc.)

Such comments are the following brief sample occur on diverse Indian discussion boards, blogs etc:

Hi everybody,
I just wondering whether the people who is going behind Saibaba have stopped going to his places after the Nidyanantha scandal! But unfortunately, NO!
It happenned after Premananda Swami, it’s happenning after Nidyanantha swami, and will go on………. like this until every individual get experienced themself. If they allow cameras inside the Saibaba’s places then you can have plenty of videos like this one.
GOD has no intention to come through or on a human to give his messages. If GOD is there then he is everywhere, you can just talk to him, pray him, admire him, thank him and ask him. GOD is not going to give you pleasure because you paid donation to Nidyanantha.
People, please THINK AGAIN!

Inside information on Sathya Sai Baba by very close servitor

Posted by robertpriddy on April 14, 2010

For those who have not had the advantage of knowing people who are extremely well-informed about the daily doings of Sathya Sai Baba, I have make public facts about my many private interchanges with my former excellent friend, V. K. Narasimhan (or ‘VKN’ – renowned Indian journalist of The Hindu & Indian Express – and editor – latterly of Sanathana Sarathi, where he published dozens of my articles). Narasimhan was very important to the respectability of Sathya Sai Baba in  leading Indian circles, but he harboured many and persistent doubts about which he seldom spoke because of the serious consequences it would have for the social projects of Sai Baba and VKNs own security at the ashram where he lived and was looked after in his dotage.

These articles tells about the legacy of inside information that was left with me by V. K. Narasimhan. Included were facts he had not dared to make known to more than a very few persons.  I swear on my personal honour that all I relate here is nothing but the truth to the very best of understanding after very long and painstaking follow-up investigations.

Narasimhan often repeated that he really didn’t understand why Sathya Sai Baba was so nice to him… describing himself as a rather non-religious and ‘hard-nut’ journalist. He often told me he did not know why he had ended up at SB’s ashram, except that Sai Baba was heading some valuable social projects which hardly any others in India were doing. Most significantly, as editor of SB’s journal, he NEVER published any accounts of ‘materializations’ or healing miracles by Sai Baba!  However, Sai Baba found VKN a very valuable asset to his credibility due to VKN’s journalistic prestige, his known social ideals and  honesty. His presence there bolstered Sai Baba’s image in the eyes of the more enlightened middle classes of India. Above all, he knew personally most of the top politicians and other elite in India and induced many of them to visit Sai Baba who otherwise might never have gone there. Moreover, a journalist who had seen so much failure, incompetence and corruption in his journalistic travels, VKN had admiration for SB’s public works and believed in Sai Baba’s promise to raise India and protect or regenerate all that was good about its culture, religion and people. (This project can be seen to have failed very signally already).

That Narasimhan was entirely non-negative in his presentation of Sai Baba and his public doings in his own public talks and writings was often against his better knowledge, for he was ever telling me about SB’s failings and untruthfulness. See scans of my long series of verbatim notes of his  conversations with me at the time between 1989 and 1998 before his decease. No doubt, VKN mostly felt great respect for SB, and – like most others – was strongly affected by his charismatically invigorating (and intimidating) presence. VKN was soon tamed by Sai Baba into misrepresenting and/or editing out certain vital facts he knew and was unable to rock the boat, though he confided his many doubts and difficulties to some of us in private. No doubt to mollify VKN’s misgivings, Sai Baba called him for something or other practically every day and he spent many long hours close by SB at festivals, in occasional interviews, and rode about with him in cars etc.

Projecting one’s whole autonomy onto Sathya Sai Baba

Posted by robertpriddy on April 9, 2010

All Sathya Sai Baba followers who visit his ashrams have always had to queue, sit and wait almost endlessly before he appears – let alone before they get the chance of an interview, which almost no one does any longer due to his invalidism. Many pray and wait for years on end for the ‘Lord and Master’, and ‘spiritual seekers’ who travel across continents are all constantly hope for some form of personal attention, eye contact, some words… then more and more of the same. All this is shared by all followers, excluding very important persons, such as heads of state, royalty or the super rich and famous, who mostly get comparative red carpet treatment.

Sathya Sai Baba used to walk about very slowly, making gestures (which many people took as personal messages to them!) and when he looked even in a person’s general direction, they took this as a blessing! Not a few report how waves of happiness, bliss, even ecstasy floods through them, tears come to their eyes. If he smiles at them or takes a letter from them, it seems to them that they at last have confirmation of being personally acceptable to God himself. In most cases, these emotions are the culmination of a very long period of approaching through meditation on him, prayers to him, letters sent (often with the writer’s most private thoughts ‘in advance’) after much reading of books which all praise him beyond the clouds, videos which seem to prove he is a divinity, hearing miracle and amazing healing stories galore, and making diverse efforts to live according to his directions, do everything in his name.

Many followers sacrifice much time and money, put up with all manner of difficulties and disappointments on the way, meanwhile meeting many other persons telling of wonderful (subjective) experiences seen through their own faith. But by then they have already become highly open to suggestion (becoming what are called ‘good hypnotic subjects’). Despite this, or precisely because of it, various persons have been surprised, as was I, upon first observing him show himself (i.e. “give his holy darshan“) because. he seemed just too ordinary. But then, one already ‘knows’ that it could just not be true…has he not told them not to be deceived by his short stature, for in reality he holds the entire universe in his hands?

Longing and Yearning are ‘projective’: The intensity developed by followers’ desires and beliefs amount to psychological projections. Projection is a very complex process with many aspects and can vary in strength, scope and content. Nonetheless it is a common occurrence among followers of all idols, especially those who have created an aura of holiness or wisdom around themselves, by whatever means.  Even one small apparent paranormal event – taken as the longed-for Sai leela or small miracle – is enough to set one  self-reinforcing ones indoctrination to last for life! This may take the form of statement like the following which was sent to me by a colleague at some stage as an illustration of how mental projection words in those who have invested much time and energy without noticeable attention from Sathya Sai Baba:

“I vividly recall looking at his form with utter peace and no thoughts. He stopped and turned and gave me this amazing smile, piercing me with his eyes and I felt this incredible warmth enter me. “What did he do that for,” I thought, on that day three years ago. Today, the penny dropped. Thought has to stop.” by Sai Baba devotee Christopher (Chris) Parnell – Australian Sathya Sai Organization

The dropping penny – after first awakening new thoughts – evidently causes thought to deteriorate – and that is precisely the programme Sai Baba sets out – overcome one’s thoughts through mantras, prayer, bhajan singing and meditation. Kill the mind – supposedly letting mindless ‘universal consciousness’ take over!  I have observed through many years observing others how their minds tend to drift without incisiveness or efforts at improvement, getting ever more uncritical and unreliable. Impressionable persons who have been actively indoctrinating (or ‘brain-washing’) themselves for a long time within the cocoon of beliefs and mostly within the circle of other believers… especially in the otherworldly and unrealistic ashram mental environment where all one’s wildest hopes may (but most likely will not) come true.

Powerful projection reinforcements: Projecting all kinds of desires and ones best imaginings onto Sathya Sai Baba and his circle, one produces a self-conversion by oneself. These circumstances are known to be conducive to sudden healing and many other extra-normal effects, but these always prove to be partial and temporary… the enthusiasm wears off after the famous ‘honeymoon’ period is past. Such phenomena are well known, far from being limited to Sai Baba or other Indian gurus – consider Billy Graham, Lourdes. Pastor Moon and literally thousands of other personality cults. One develops a partly delusional world-view and can then become easily manipulated by powerful forms of suggestion of the kind otherwise called ‘hypnotic’. These can cause considerable distortions of sensory perception, even though one does not enter an actual sleep-like trance (viz. Derren Brown). The intensity of the ‘projection’ makes likely not only changes in outlook, but a new sense of purpose and energy. All one needed was a catalyst (a relevant  object or person to project onto in the specific case), and that is how idol-worship and personality cults work.

More on mental-emotional projection and Sai Baba’s methods of using it to come.

Selfhood and self-confidence in Sai Baba’s teaching

Posted by robertpriddy on April 7, 2010

Self confidence versus denial of selfhood: Due to the use of a very ambiguous word – ‘ego’ – which is held in most Eastern-influenced ‘spiritual ways’  to be the cause of virtually all the ills of humankind, people subject themselves to doctrines which can only undermine true self-confidence. The human ego can refer to the what results from the development of an independent, secure and self-sufficient personality or contrariwise to the unmitigated selfishness of people who put their desires and interests before almost all else. True self-confidence belongs to the well-rounded and balanced personality or ego-identity and not at all to the selfish egomaniac. Preaching about the need to ‘kill the ego’ or ‘surrender of the self’ is well-known from many religious movements – due to the misunderstanding about what ‘ego’ means. If the word refers only to the possessive and self-seeking “me and mine” aspect of a person, to try to help people limit and contain this is acceptable. However, this goal is all too often connected to the subjugation of people under authoritarian gurus, church or other spiritual organizations and cults. One aim in preaching ‘surrender of the ego’ is the humbling of people – such as before a supposed perfect God, or – what is yet worse – ‘holy’ representatives of this or that deity in the form of gurus, swamis and priesthoods of all kinds. This submission to authority figures as superior figures is also a form of dependency – a ‘spiritual crutch’ – and involves the gradual loss of self-determination and a creeping inward self-depreciation or inferiority which are very difficult for its victims to recognise. It usually comes along with living mostly within a belief community or limited circle of more or less like-minded people, trying to follow strictly moralistic ideals and overly self-denying precepts.

“A particular form of seduction that the group participates in with those flirting with joining is similar to sexual conquest. The group pours an enormous amount of focused energy and attention into potential recruits until they surrender to the group’s authority, which of course has the guru and his belief system at its center. When someone does surrender, everyone celebrates the new bonding. This is a bit like a new marriage, and for the recruit, it is the honeymoon phase. This lasts as long as it does, and then the focus of the group shifts elsewhere. (This also happens in romantic love, for after the conquest the wooer’s interest and focus often move somewhere else.) When the honeymoon is over, the new converts must shift roles – from being the wooed to being the wooer.” (from ‘The Guru Papers’ by Joel Kramer and Diane Alstead  p.79)

Those who experience a conversion to a divinity, sect, doctrine, guru and so on often seem to get a surge of self-confidence, one which may last for years until the lifestyle and beliefs become habitual and worn. This is often seen in keen missionaries and promulgators of their faith. The apparent self-confidence is however based not least on the strength of belief in a kind of superiority derived from having joined the community of the saved, the holy, or perhaps the prospective saints. This is hardly the result of a secure and balanced personality, it is rather pseudo-self-confidence which is frequently recognisable in signs that it is an adopted role rather than an expression of genuine insight and knowledge. Such people usually come across as too over-emphatically convinced, too masterful, patronizing or otherwise semi-fanatical in their opinions and approaches to other people.

The monastic type of detachment from worldly things may be less troublesome to more elderly persons who have already lived themselves out in an engaged and active life in the world with broad experience, for they are often less affected by the desires and life-seeking tendencies that are only natural and indeed necessary to real health and personal security in younger persons. But for anyone whose life’s meridian is not well passed and who is not psychologically very robust, the Sathya Sai Baba doctrine will in most cases hinder personal growth (IF it is possible for one to adhere to it to any large extent). A main reason for this lies in the feeling of impotence instilled by Sathya Sai Baba’s constant talking-down of people as imperfect (sometimes he calls people worse than dogs, or cawing crows etc.)… and his corresponding admonitions to focus all ones thoughts and desires on him alone. He teaches that everything stems from him, the creator of the universe from whom only good things come! Yet he also says, conflicting as usual, “everything that happens comes from God”, think about that!. His insistence on the super-importance of concentration on repeating his name, inwardly worshipping his form (and his person in actual practice at endless darshan sessions etc.) works effectively as an opiate that dulls personal reflection and living self-awareness, which is the true basis of genuine self-confidence and personality growth.

Modern psychology has developed and tested against experience many conceptual devices for tracing the multiplicity of personality traits, the growth of the ego and the influences operative on emotional and mental conditions of all kinds.  Sai Baba hardly ever refers to any of these discoveries and is very evidently not conversant with their theories or terminologies.  Though claiming to be in complete touch with the psyche of anyone, knowing it in and out,  his discourses repeatedly demonstrate that he suffers from many of the most common fallacies about nature of the human mind and psyche,  and this shines through even his words have been heavily edited and sanitized as far as reasonable by editors who are rather more knowledgeable.

In brief,  one may say that his teachings on psychic development and spiritual behaviour rely wholly on Indian religious tradition and are primitively fundamentalist, set in black-and-white terms with an iconography and ideology of  ‘gods versus demons’, a world view applied ad lib to the present almost without nuance or proper factual basis.  He almost always speaks in the most sweeping terms and is prone to almost hair-raising over-generalisation about the nature of people, governments, world conditions and on any number of issues.  The degree of exaggeration and factual inaccuracy is quite extraordinary for a supposedly intelligent teacher!

Sathya Sai Baba’s recipe for  anti-living: I have shown something of how Sathya Sai Baba’s directions for living are so demandingly puritanical and unrealistically idealistic that most of his followers seem to end up living a virtual non-life.  There is much more in his recipe to break down not only the objectionable egoism of morally primitive persons, but the entire personality structure of a democratic and effective civil citizen. One can meet many such cases (especially foreigners) who reside at the ashrams but are doing no work, no ‘active service’. Often they are virtually just existing in limbo, coping only with the constant daily problems of subsistence there, and waiting for grace and blessings to fall into their laps. Some have said this to me quite openly!

If you manage to get rid of most or all of your personal desires,  as Sai Baba insists everyone should immediately or – failing that – as soon as possible, then existence loses much of its meaning (let alone charm) and the desire to live is itself seriously weakened in the process. It is hardly surprising that constant Sai devotees, esp. single foreign ladies at the ashram,  tend to be suicidal.   One such a suicide took place while we were visiting in 1990 (covered up by the PN officials immediately). This resulted in the ashram accommodation office not allowing any woman  to have an apartment on her own.  Various other suicides of disappointed devotees are documented elsewhere, including one involving most members of a large Indian family. There are numerous reports of suicides, of which not more than a handful have reached the press in any country. The ashram authorities enforce immediate damage limitation precautions as soon as anything untoward happens there and very short shrift is given to anyone who persists in inquiries. In this respect, the Sai Baba ashrams are indistinguishable from totalitarian mini-states.

One Sai Baba follower, Mr. Kanheia Jee , a retired Indian army major who had become more or less socially and mentally trapped for 30 years and more as Head of the Administration at Vidyagiri in Prashanti Nilayam together with his leading Seva Dal worker and wife (Mrs. Caveri),  put it very succinctly:  “If you try to do even half of what Baba says you should,  you’ll go stark raving mad!” Looked at in sane social terms, these attitudes develop the basis for despotism and repression,  ignorance and weakening of the individual human spirit to stand up for what is right and true.  There is no more ingenious way of taking away people’s freedom than teaching them that they cannot control their fates except by prayer to him,  that only God is free and decides all in his inscrutable way.  It is despicable!  Thus making people obey and censor themselves entirely so as to give up more and more autonomy and all normal rights,  while it works as the subtlest known means of gaining power, fame and wealth by Sai Baba and his men.

Manipulating vulnerable consciousness: Though his extremely puritan moralism and demands for massive self-denial, Sai Baba develops a ‘vulnerable consciousness’ in many people, particularly those who are vulnerable from before for reasons of repressive childhoods, social discrimination, personality problems etc. His doctrines lay much weight on ideas which are nothing short of self-destructive, though they go under the emotively acceptable label ‘removal or destruction of the ego’ . Even while he outwardly says some positive,  supportive things about how to relate to oneself,  they are mostly tied up with expectations of a (better)  life in the hereafter.  Meanwhile,  he asserts all kinds of things which mainly bring a person down, cause them to feel low self-esteem or reduced worth…  the typical self-denigration spread by all fundamentalist sin-oriented religion and sects.

Projecting one’s whole autonomy onto Sathya Sai Baba
…  the enthusiasm wears off after the famous ‘honeymoon‘ period is past. Such phenomena are well known…

Swami ‘Paramahamsa’ Nityananda scandal

Posted by robertpriddy on March 28, 2010

Swami Nithyananda is seen on a video caressing an Indian actress on a bed etc.s accused of sexual

Swami Nityananda, caught trying to cover up the sex video evidence all can see.

See latest blog on this guru here

Swami Paramahamsa Nithyananda – alias Rajasekaran, a native of Tiruvannamalai was caught on video in compromising situations with Tamil  actress Ranjitha and another woman. Serious complaints to the police were lodged by various persons, including Kannada actor Praveen and his ‘second-in-command; Lenin. Since then he has withdrawn into indeterminate spiritual seclusion’ and his main ashram has ceased to function. This case pales by comparison with those of Pope Benedict or Sathya Sai Baba, but it has awakened more Indian media suspicion of Indian gurus than any comparable event. So much so that a film ‘God and Sex’ on Nityananda’s life is to be made by director Ram Gopal Varma. reported (23-3-2010): “Tamil Nadu police who had registered cases under various sections, including rape, against Nityananda, transferred them to the police in Ramanagar, as the Ashram falls under it.” The Times of India reported that: “There will be no stay on investigation. Let me go through those papers,” the judge observed when the counsel for the petitioner pleaded for interim order of stay on the proceedings apprehending arrest following the filing of the FIR.”

Kamini Jaiswal, a senior Supreme Court lawyer , who has fought a case against Sathya Sai Baba (see here), blames blind followers for such incidents. “It is shocking to see that well educated people are followers of such godmen,” she said. (Source CNN-IBN)

Swami Nithyananda is notable for the degree of pathetic denial and self-contradictory ‘explanations’, for example:-

“Swamiji has said that the video is a morphed one and blames one of his inmates Premananda alias Lenin Karuppan, for the morphing of his face with the idea of defaming him. It is said that Swamiji tried to stop the airing of the video footage but a civil court did not grant any stay.” (Source)

“Yes, I am in the video. And I am not running away from the law. I was in a trance when the video was shot. Give me a chance to explain myself” Swami said. (Source)

Then about the video he told that they are only the experiments with Tamil actress Ranjita.(Source)

Investigations of sex cover-ups not ‘smear campaigns’

Posted by robertpriddy on March 27, 2010

Pope Benedict & Sathya Sai Baba

Cover-up artists - not me, not me!

The popular accusation against almost all who investigate sex abuses by religionists and their cover-up is that this is just a “smear campaign”. The international press is accused by the Vatican of running a smear campaign against the Pope… even though one horrific story after another and another of lives ruined for many decades are now emerging all over the media.

For years and across the Internet in a massive attack on all who have been calling the investigations by a large number of dissidents who claimed and/or recognised that Sathya Sai Baba has been involved in lifelong sexual abuse of boys and young men, Gerald Joe Moreno and others have claimed it is a “smear campaign”.

In all cases, the evidence is there and the cover-up is easily seen through by those who are not already fully indoctrinated and have committed their prestige and lives to the deceivers in each case.

Swami Nityananda is seen on a video caressing an Indian actres on a bed etc.s accused of sexual

Swami Nityananda, trying to cover up the sex video evidence, contradicting himself time and again

Though a minor case compared to the Pope and Sathya Sai Baba, Swami Nityananda was caught on a video showing him caressing ladies on a bed and being massaged by them (while no sex abuse involved). His followers immediately called the video a “smear campaign”, and Nityananda used the same term! Amusingly he first claimed it was a ‘morphed’ video, then, when the actress admitted she was with him, he tried to worm his way out by saying it was an ‘experiment’! His ‘sin’ is that he claims to be a celibate and pure Paramahamsa!

A brief look at these parallel cases shows the pattern:-

1) Pope Benedict XVI
It is claimed that the Pope did not know about the sex abuses – that such cases did not reach that far. Even so, when he did learn of a case, he refused to strip the pedophile of his office and this meant he could carry on as before. Who will believe that the Pope was never informed of any of these events:-

The Netherlands: More than 200 Catholics have until now reported sex assaults.
Germany: Over 250 sex assault cases are under investigation.
Austria: A series of accusations of sex abuse have surfaced recently.
Ireland: Two reports in 2009 document sexual and physical abuse on a huge scale in Catholic institutions.
USA: An independent commission in 2004 received 10,667 accusations of abuses by Catholic priests from 1950 to 2002.
UK: A monk who ran a Catholic school was given 8 years prison for decades of child sexual abuse. Two other monks were convicted for sex assaults in 2007.
Australia: In 2008, there were 107 convictions in sex abuse cases connected to the Catholic Church.
New Zealand: There has been a series of accusations of sex abuses in Catholic schools.
Canada: In 1989 a newspaper exposed sex abuse in a Catholic children home in Newfoundland, after which 300 previous children homes have reported sex abuses!
Argentina: Brasil: Peru: the Philippines and Senegal have all reported similar cases.
(Source: Norsk Telegram Byrå and DPA) See ‘A timeline’ Also see Sinead O’Connor’s pungent statements!
Now the scandal has spread beyond the English-speaking world – and not just into Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands, but into Mexico and Italy, traditional strongholds of Catholic devotion. The faithful are outraged, and still the Pope does not seem to see the whole picture. (Source The Times).

On CNN, ex-Catholic priest Patrick Wall, author of “Sex, Priests and Secret Codes” – who left the Church after having been assigned to smooth over troubles after a series of sex abusive monks, tells how the instruction to victims was: “For the good name of the church you must remain silent”. This caused lives full of depression and worse. Read this excellent article in the New York Times

While Pope Benedict is not accused of more than an abuse of trust himself travels the globe, Sathya Sai Baba dares not leave India any longer since he is accused of so many sexual abuses in so many countries that he is unsafe abroad – there are affidavits waiting in the wings in case he does travel.

2) Sathya Sai Baba
With the protection of the Indian Government, which has never remotely investigated the massive world-wide allegations of sex abuse of young men and boys by Sathya Sai Baba. The Sathya Sai Organization rejects all approaches from abused young men, their parents and their defenders. Just like the Catholic Church, with the exception that related suicides have been recorded (eg. by The Times and diverse other respectable sources) and murders took place in Sathya Sai Baba’s bedroom, which were covered up by himself, his followers and the CBI investigation was quashed by Government with the Home and Prime Ministers of India involved at the time, and the same has continued since then. The extent of sexual abuses at Sathya Sai Colleges by teachers and others – who it is claimed were themselves abused previously by Sai Baba – is unknown, but various private reports received indicate it is very extensive. The level of deception and cover-up on many suicides, disappearances, murders and other abuses of persons and their faith is literally vast, as can be found on the web!

One chief similarity between the Catholic Church and Sai Baba is that both have State support for their cover-ups.. the Pope is head of Vatican State and Sai baba has the Indian government at his feet and in his pocket.

Nityananda sex scandal compounded by his lies and deceits

Posted by robertpriddy on March 13, 2010

New Delhi: Self-styled godman Nityananda Swami, who was caught in sleazy video footage, on Saturday said the video was morphed and manipulated to misrepresent his personal life but did not deny his images with actress Ranjita in the film.

“There is a lot of misrepresentation, manipulation, conspiracy and morphing. We are working which part is recorded in a conspired way, which part is morphed, which part is misrepresented,” Swami told Times Now news channel.

The video is clearly a true representation, it can be seen as such – even though it was put together from several sequences. He is unable to tell which is morphed and which is not, but he knows what he did and when, surely? Is this not just a ploy to buy time until some bogus explanation can be found from somewhere? But for him not to challenge the video would mean a yet more complete loss of followers and his entire guru business. Let us examine what else he said:-

I have not done anything illegal: Nityananda He said the girl in the video was his devotee and she was taking care of him when he was ill. “She was serving me for a long time. She was volunteering and serving me and taking care of me when I was sick for a long time. There is no denying that she was, she is and she will remain a devotee,” he said.
He said he became sick last December, when the actress volunteered and served him. He was physically unwell and was “consciously in a deep samadhi”.
Swami, who has been slapped with cases of cheating after the video footage came to light on March eight, said the video will be sent to experts to find out the portions morphed in it.

There he pulled out his fat porkie: “in deep samadhi” due to the visible fact, perhaps, that he was concentrated watching TV! Yet he also begs that he was ill while in deep samadhi!

I believe I do not have any lust. 100 per cent I am sure that I do not have any need for other person,” Swami, who is currently in Haridwar, said.

He “believes” he does not have any lust! It amounts to 100% certainty! If he needs no one else, why does he need two servitors to take care of him? Why does a person who needs no one have to have female pandering and caresses from two ladies – both clearly seen “serving” him.. Nonetheless he tries to draw the wool over the eyes of any remaining believers in him. Anyone who cannot see through this transparent web of self-deceits, lies and absurdities is in need of guidance, but not from any guru!

Swami Nityananda’s deceits are relatively harmless compared to the really major frauds and abusers of faith, among whom Sathya Sai Baba stands as the most deceitful and unaccountable of all, but who is protected to the highest levels of government and judiciary. Too many people have too much to lose if he is brought to justice… See the huge catalogue of his deceits, the history of his abuses of faith and worse, and his many untruths and vast self-contradictions documented from his own words.

Sex scandal in Indian media – Nityananda and forerunners

Posted by robertpriddy on March 6, 2010

Indian commentators, such as the presenter at IBN are finally asking why it is that so many Indian gurus have been convicted of adharmic (i.e. unrighteous) activities. The latest scandal, whatever the eventual outcome, has brought forth more allegations of Nityananda abusing women sexually, of murder attempts and an unexplained death at his ashram.

as from One India March 6, 2010.

For example, One India reported this (see on right): Had not the Nityananda sex video caused a major uproar across the internet, the Indian news media would most probably have played down or ignored the matter, for this is what the Indian news media have done for years now in the case of the influential and powerful Sathya Sai Baba, for – with very few honourable exceptions – they no longer take any notice of continuing and fresh allegations of Sai Baba’s sexual molestation of young men and boys.

Human rights violations from sex, rape, pedophilia, murder to financial scams are increasingly reported alleged in connection with Indian swamis and/or so-called ‘godmen’. Bupendra Chowbey on IBN hosts a discussion on these issues in a 4-part video on ‘Sex, sleaze and swamis’. He said: “The fundamental question is why has there been such a huge increase in cases related to the holy men in our country.”

from debate screen

He compares aspects of the Nityananda case with those of Chandra Swami, Sathya Sai Baba, Pilot Baba, and other religious leaders and asks if blind faith in religion is the reason for godmen becoming conmen and whether the sexploits of swamis have permanently damaged the image of holy men in India. While reactions to the revelations about Nityananda led to physical damage to his ashram, the debaters were loath to blame religion as such but rather the gullibility of people who do not think for themselves.

Coming on the heels of the N.D. Tiwari sex scandal [who Sathya Sai Baba endorsed], the Nityananda revelations have further engaged Indian journalists into thinking what is wrong with gurus, even with Hinduism and religion itself (see Star Of Mysore article)

CLICK ON IMAGE for IBN debate on video

Self-declared ‘spiritual masters’ claiming they lead people to bliss and realization, can do miracles, healings and much else prove to be in many cases in recent decades to have been involved variously in sexual abuse, pedophilia, murder – not to mention fraud on a mega scale. Some of the more notable include Swami Premananda (Tiruvannamalai), Bhagwan Rajneesh (Osho), Swami Muktananda, Swami Rama, Swami Rameshwaranand Giriji Maharaj, Gyatri Swami, Balayogi Premvarni, Gowrishankara Swami, Swami Shyam, The Phalgat (of Kerala), Swami Bhimanand… the list could actually be extended into the scores. None are so widely and credibly accused of pedophilia, male sex abuses, involvement in murders, fraud and political cover-up than Sathya Sai Baba (see here)

Jaani Drucker, The Truth, open inquiry and truthfulness

Posted by robertpriddy on February 21, 2010

Having noted the exchange of views between Barry Pittard and Jaani Drucker (aka Yaani Drucker), I am prompted to provide some more detailed examination of the issues at stake. With her self-promoted superior insight into The Truth (as if it were something hypostatized and ontologised) Jaani Drucker rejected Barry Pittard’s questions without answering them, writing “When you are determined to find denial and resistance, there is no honest debate or discussion possible. You have already closed your mind.” This is a typical cult-defensive reaction where questioning itself is viewed as something negative.

If anyone has closed their minds it is surely Jaani [Yaani] Drucker. How can one tell? Because she has not had anything new to say except continually to preach that she has the TRUTH and is – by implication – self-realized, all the while parroting nothing but the ideas of Sathya Sai Baba – where these concur with ‘The Course in Miracles’ (better called ‘Pollyanna Positive Prayer and Preaching’). This is more of a dogma than a doctrine for it is closed to any basic modification and is isolated from all further development and – above all – criticism. In general it is an extreme form of religious puritanism as found in the Judaic Talmud, the Old Testament and the strictest Hindu doctrines.

In continuing to promote and defend Sathya Sai Baba, Yaani acts as if her supposed Truth is so precious as always to have to be attended by an unquestioned bodyguard of supporting liesºº… those which have been exposed on a large scale by many former followers, not least Barry Pittard and myself. Al Drucker admitted – when pressed – to the former Central Coordinator of the UK Sathya Sai Organization, that many parents had complained to him of sexual abuse by Sai Baba while Drucker was resident at the ashram. Jaani is no doubt also well aware that Sai Baba has escaped justice only because the entire Indian system of corrupt topmost politicians and judges who worship him have protected him from all accountability! This is part of the body of lies the Druckers prefer to condone, supposedly to protect their Truth, which would need not protection or even promotion if it really were that immutable and powerful.

Those who have invested their prestige in Sai Baba and his teaching on the ego etc., like the Druckers, live largely within a community of persons and ideas divorced from all research, informed debate, the stringency of peer review because the doctrine they embrace is that the Truth, as preached by advaitists and Sai Baba among them, is immutable, requires no modification or development. They can reject without informing themselves of the entire world-wide advances in human psychology by hundreds of thousands of practitioners and researchers garnering experience from all corners of the globe and the human psyche… none of it could ever upset a figment of the ordained and immortalized Truth of their favourite religious speculations, static and stagnant as it has been for centuries! It’s main method of persuasion is repetition. One can only sustain this claim to total knowledge within the cocoon of ashrams or circles of New Age type persons, for it cannot stand the slightest buffets of well-informed intelligence based on tried and proven hypotheses by a global host of professionals.

If we look a little into this supposed Truth, we find it depends on the ‘death of the ego’. The doctrine of ‘ego’ that is most central to Sai Baba and I understand also to the would-be self-realization group run by the Druckers is really nothing more than a long harangue against selfishness (Me and Mine). This naked and stark belief – that selfishness is the root of ALL evil – is dressed up in portentous ideas about the ‘true egoless self’ within (and hidden from) all mankind . The belief posits the wishful dream of a total awareness of selfless unity within divinity, described in highly fanciful terms like ‘the golden womb’, the Heart and so on. Now, a doctrine of self-denial – if moderated by common sense and free of dogmatic certainty and absolutism – would not be unwelcome. Yet the anti-ego dogma is lacking in realism or practicable and compassionate humanism. It is actually very naively formulated in reducing the entire personal ‘ego’ to something far less than it is: a dynamic psychic development necessary to life as we know it. There is conceptual confusion involved – the word ‘ego’ is misapplied by Sai Baba, imitated uncritically by Jaani, to include one’s entire identity ‘as a separate being’, which again is seen as being blinded by ignorance (of the Truth of its own nature) and dominated by egoism in the form of selfishness and greed.

The human ego is to be understood as a dynamic development of every psyche through coping with the demands of the environment (others) and instinctual urges (survival, sex, fear, power, suppression, dominance, sex, hunger etc.). The ego, as psychologically understood, balances and reacts properly to the external and internal demands impinging on the person and is a very necessary achievement without which one cannot avoid one or another form of cognitive disorder up to and including severe and chronic mental illness. Looking after oneself and one’s own interests is the very basis of being human, without which one cannot even recognise or appreciate the same unavoidable need in others. Pursuing self-interest is unavoidably important, both for individuals and societies. It is the excess of such pursuits – greed of all kinds, economic and social insecurity, excess in power-seeking and all the related ills we all know so well – that are the problem. The self-realization through death of the ego brigade do not recognise this… they consider they have progressed beyond such needs (but often I have noted the actual consumption of goods and services are above average among the most outspoken ‘Ceiling on Desires’ advocates).

This fails to recognise the vast achievements of ego psychology (which it almost entirely rejects as illusory worldly untruth). It is not based on the slightest research – it cannot be tested (except by sacrificing one’s entire life – a fool’s risk). It is a puritanical and typically Indian religious doctrine – such as Sai Baba’s advice ‘Die Mind’ (one of his many execrable poor puns), which he symbolizes by giving away diamonds (all synthetic stones, yet more symbolically!). Obviously, undue selfishness is a trait without which the world would surely benefit, but taking it to the point of self-annihilation (i.e. killing the ego, ‘killing the mind’ – such as through prayers and mantras) is probably only for those who are ultimately tired of the whole of their own lives.

As seen in so many religious sects – it most often ends in moralism of the most unwelcome kind, sustaining and increasing people’s sense of personal inadequacy, leading to depression and even suicidalism in those who feel incapable of meeting its constant demands. Those who strive to follow the unworldly practices involved get no lasting benefit from the process either (except for possible temporary exhilaration of the kind ‘Now I have solved it all, what to do?’). Those who have made a vocation of it and sunk their prestige in preaching it may manage to keep up the required outward Pollyanna smile.
More to follow shortly…

Religious sex abuse cover-up world-wide, eg. Sathya Sai Organization

Posted by robertpriddy on February 18, 2010

It is instructive to look at some present-day examples of what has clearly been an endemic problem of religious institutions and sects worldwide – sexual abuse, especially of children, both female and male.

The Roman Catholic Church has shown itself to be committed to major cover-up of sexual crimes and it continues to hinder prosecutions where it can. The heinous nature of this is matched by Sathya Sai Baba and his protectors, which includes a series of Indian Prime Ministers, Home Ministers and top Supreme and High Court judges. Sathya Sai Baba, if he could despite top protection as ‘a national treasure’ be brought to court and justice, would be liable to vast financial damages, such as which already bankrupted the Catholic Church in many U.S. States, despite it having now cynically insured itself in many countries against financial losses from claimants. (See extent here)

Sky News' report on the wilful deceit by the Pope and the Catholic Chruch over the vast sex abuse scandals worldwide

A two-day summit at the Vatican in Rome with Pope Benedict and 24 senior clergy ended in the Pope condemning child sexual abuse as a heinous crime and a sin against God. As Colm O’Gorman said on Sky News [17-2-2010] “It was nothing more than a rather cynical PR exercise… We don’t need the Vatican to tell us that.” O’Gorman testified that the Pope’s latest announcement is part of a top-level “wilful and deliberate cover-up“. He detailed how history of Catholic sexual abuse and its cover-up goes back to the 1st century AD, but in recent decades has been truly excessive, as three state inquiries in Ireland have shown (eg. the Child Abuse Commission report of 2,600 pages and the Murphy Report). The taxpayers have hitherto footed the £1.4 billion bill for compensation, while the Catholic Church – who should on Christian principles bear this expense – have paid out far less. Further, under the protection of the Vatican, the Catholic Church worldwide has insured itself against possible claims and has “put the interests of the institution, its wealth and its position ahead of the safety of children.” and “The Vatican made a “deceitful and dishonest statement” that it was “a problem in the governance of the national church in Ireland” (O’Gorman).

VATICAN CITY (RNS) Irish victims of clerical sex abuse have asked Pope Benedict XVI for over $1.37 billion in compensation, in a letter that the head of Ireland’s Catholic Church received. (VATICAN CITY – RNS)

As is seen on the image above, the Pope is the centre of a ring-kissing personality cult not entirely dissimilar – though far less charismatic than – that around Sathya Sai Baba, unlike whom the Pope has never been suspected of the oiling of genitals on spiritual aspirants.  As a role model, his total passivity as to getting justice for criminal sexual acts – including widespread pedophilia –  by his criminal officials shows where his true values are. The same applies with far greater force to Sathya Sai Baba, who is himself widely accused and accursed as an abuser of boys and young men on a large scale. The Sathya Sai Organization is unaccountable and ignores all complaints – as once the Roman Catholic Church did until forced into admissions. This makes the organization party to widely alleged criminality and refusal to honour duty of care and mandatory reporting… just like the Vatican! While Sai Baba can hide behind Manmohan Singh and Co., Pope Benedict cannot hide behind Silvio Berlusconi. Indian society is at present far more inclined to cover-up (and thus prolong and virtually condone) the sexual abuse of children, especially when its Prime Ministers and Presidents worship such a person as Sathya Sai Baba.

scan of table from Indian Government research report

It is officially documented by a commission under the auspices of the UN, the Indian Government and Save the Children that fifty-three per cent of India’s forty million children claim to have been sexually abused. That is over 20 million child victims!). See official Government report

The report states: on page 74;-
1. Out of the total of 2211 respondents, 42% children faced at least one form of sexual abuse or the other.
2. Among respondents, 48% of boys and 39% of the girls faced sexual abuse.
3. The prevalence of sexual abuse in upper and middle class was found to be proportionately higher than in lower or in lower middle class.
