The Sathya Sai Baba exposé’s history in brief

Posted by robertpriddy on January 15, 2017

At the beginning of the exposé in 1999 I was still in doubt about much of the material that had come forth about Sathya Sai Baba’s sexual abuses and worse. While getting involved in investigating the facts, I came into contact with defecting members (eventually over 100 at least). Not unexpectedly, though all found the sexual abuses abhorrent, most were of different opinions on many other aspects of the exposé. I was eventually urged by the most articulate group of activists (later composing the core of the 32-member JuST group) to coordinate the development of the Sai petition (and hence the core policy of the exposé). This involved up to 1000 e-mails in trying to get solidarity around its key aims, during which time those with cantankerous views, extreme agendas, and evidently unstable minds (of which the Sai movement had a high percentage) either left the process or were ignored. Meanwhile, the remaining core eventually hammered out a common overall policy.

The main targets for our information and agitation persons in public office, especially institutions like Governmental departments, United Nations’ branches, the UK Foreign Office and secret services, the US State Department, India’s CBI, law enforcement agencies, top human rights organisations and their key persons, other cult exposers, serous journalists and media, plus present and future researchers into religion, sects and cults. This has remained our focus, in accordance with our mutual agreements and trust. We aimed to try to protect and advise vulnerable persons seeking meaning who otherwise could only read the massive and unopposed propaganda praising Sai Baba uncritically exaggerating his own massive claims of his world-wide importance as a pure and divine saviour of humanity. Reducing the influence of the Sathya Sai Organisation and serving notice on devotees’ self-serving praise etc. on their deeply indoctrinated minds was also of importance, but was supplementary to the main aims. Indian devotees were – and still are – so entrapped in denial and their particular environments that it virtually takes a personal disaster for them to change completely (such as by being sexually abused, or close to badly abused and not least murdered devotees). However, the tremendous demise of the Sathya Sai Organisation was largely due to the exposé and its interventions… capped off by the ignominious ‘premature’ death and all that came out then.

The main work rested on the shoulders, so to speak, of the brave young men and their families etc. who stood forth and told of their experiences of sex abuse, but also of those who worked hard in exposing the infamous 1993 murders in Sai Baba’s apartment.  Meanwhile several bold apostates (especially David BaileyGlen Meloy, Barry Pittard, Conny Larsson and other JuST members) were very active in campaigning to try to motivate officialdom: governments, UN bodies, human rights NGOs and embassies etc., for all of his various ‘victims’ their efforts being directed towards bringing SB and his cronies to justice, stopping sexual abuse, and organising various lines of inquiry and action. Of course, we eventually  learned that it was an impossibility to get him into court in India due to his control over much of the judiciary and government (a long line of Sai-devoted Indian Prime Ministers and Presidents too).

I had begun dealing with the revelations with the attitude that I would strike some balance between the good things about Sai Baba and the dark side. Only gradually did events – and a flood of information from intelligent, selfless and trustworthy former devotees who had found no forum for their discoveries while devotees, did I realise that – for all I had believed and given myself to promoting wholeheartedly – the dark side of him and his secretive conspiracy was far, far more extensive that I could have imagined. While still deceived by it all, I had written a book promoting him, so I had to make amends by presenting the other side of the coin fully in order to correct wrong impressions so as to protect the weak and vulnerable against him and the highly overrated and misunderstood motives behind his works.

On balance, the outcome of Sai Baba’s life was deception in the interests of self-glorification, financial, social and political power, sexual satisfaction and many deeply serious breaks of trust. Ultimately, through a long lifetime of experiences and disillusionments with many promising theories, movements and doctrines, I am convinced that all religious and most spiritual doctrines are largely unfounded and speculative, and can lead to very dangerous social conditions and only provide temporary comfort from the fears, problems and sufferings of mankind. No ‘balanced’ approach to religion or organised faiths can do other than help sustain their basic self-deceptive hopes and longings.

It is informative to see that the power and money-grabbers who control Prashanthi Nilayam today present the Sai Organisation on their website as being just as it was at the height of its membership… now a complete and total untruth as it has lost the vast majority of it’s former supporters world-wide.

Vanlige medlemmer av Sathya Sai-organisasjonen kan også klandres (are guilty too)

Vanlige medlemmer av Sai Org. bærer også skyld ((oversatt fra engelsk- translation from english)

by Barry Pittard 22 august 2011

Men nettopp her snubler de troende.

Two important articles for Sathya Sai devotees to read

Posted by robertpriddy on September 3, 2011

Barry Pittard points out the terrible shocks and huge dilemmas that Sai Baba followers are now faced by.  Even the massive spin-doctoring  by  Sathya Sai Central Trust cannot stamp out the glaring realities.  Devotees believed that Indulal Shah and other Organization leaders autocratic and unpleasant manners were due to their having to act as  mouth-pieces for Sathya Sai Baba. Little did they know …..

But servitors handpicked by Sathya Sai Baba himself have been party to extremely unaccountable, poor explanations surrounding his sickness and death. That he foretold that he would die around ten years later than he in fact did – and many of his other prophecies and promises failed to come about – were only the latest in countless such anomalies.   The Central Trust first tried to explain matters away, but tied themselves in knots and so soon reverted to their old ruse of saying nothing, and occasionally almost nothing. The incredible hoarding of billions in various currencies and gold, silver and precious gems, and many luxury goods could not be explained by them, try thought they may.

Pittard points out, no doubt quite correctly, that remaining followers’ psychological denial becomes more and more intense.  After ignoring the extensive documentation of  Sai Baba’s deceptions for over a decade, many have “at last got to learn of Sathya Sai Baba’s incredible secrecy, and that of his leaders.”  See more here:-   The Mystification of Sathya Sai Baba Devotees

Further, Pittard examines (not unsympathetically) some main reasons for the informational and/or moral crisis devotees find themselves unable to forget. Yet he also points out how failure to face the facts and their consequences for all those who have suffered from the corruption, abuse and worse by Sai Baba and his minions is a fundamental avoidance of the dictates of any healthy conscience or the much-praised quality called “heart”. Rank-and-file Sathya Sai Organization Members Are Also Culpable

Many young men claiming sexual contact with Sathya Sai Baba

Posted by robertpriddy on June 22, 2011

Sathya Sai Baba with some favourite boyfriends in his later years. Why did he have a bed in his private room (astonishing news for his devotees – from The Telegraph, Calcutta, and other papers)  which is five meters by 5 meters? One can but surmise…

Now that more of the truth about the massive deceptions and cover-ups around Sathya Sai Baba have been discovered, it is time to point out again the extensive and credible testimony – much of it confirmed by our incisive  investigations – and circumstantial evidence about Sathya Sai Baba as a major, serial sexual abuser. As often explained on numerous websites, the number of males who are reported as having been sexually molested by Sai Baba in one way or another is very considerable. There are differences in the extent to which those so involved have reported the facts. Over 20 have written their testimony on the Internet or have been filmed on documentaries stating their experiences. All of these are highly credible witnesses, in whose testimony there are many similarities, though they explain in different ways according to each the particular circumstances involved. They were brave indeed to stand forth, having nothing to gain other than the knowledge that they may have helped protect others from the same experiences.  They have been harassed and libeled for their troubles by devotees of Sai Baba in intense denial, especially by Gerald Joe Moreno on a truly fanatical scale.

The credibility of most allegations and descriptions is extremely sound: Why would so many identifiable young men go to the trouble and lengths of writing their detailed testimony on how they were abused sexually by Sathya Sai Baba if this never happened, as Sai VIPs and devotees still wish to believe?  Knowing how difficult it is to stand forth as a victim of sex abuse, it is certain that these brave persons are but the tip of a huge iceberg. The following list is of people who have publicly announced as having been approached and misused sexually by Sathya Sai Baba in one way or another:-

 (1) Tal Brooke, USA
(2) John Worldie, USA  (see here -‘Big John’ by Murphet)

(25) Christopher St. John (actor etc. see here)
(26) Uli Steckenreuter, Germany
(27) David Paul, UK. further testimony

One of the most prominent Sai Baba devotees and lecturers, Dr. Naresh Bhatia, was interviewed by the Daily Telegraph’s Mick Brown and told how he had been a sexual partner of Sathya Sai Baba for years, and how Sai Baba had anally raped a 14 year old boy in his college. This led to  Bhatia’s sacking and removal from Puttaparthi after intense harassment by thugs. See a full account here.

Sathya Sai Baba himself related in two different discourses that boys slept in his locked bedroom apartment: see BOYS SLEEP IN SAI BABA’S BEDROOM

In addition – numerous alleging sex-abused persons whose names are not always given here for obvious reasons, including harassment of self and family members, the threat of possible murder (as occurred in 1993 at Prashanthi Nilayam) :-

30)  Several Malaysian students (unidentified, who informed the Malaysian Organization around 1980 (confirmed to Priddy by former Sai Baba activist there, Hariram Jayaram – see letter and fuller account here)

31) Two younger brothers of a NRI entrepreneur (identity known but kept secret)  in Australia who he immediately withdrew from the Sai College at PN when they told him (he has been in close contact with the exposé)
32) Former student whose writings are posted here under the pseudonym Raman Sharma
 and especially here
33) gsmpasad   himself abused and who knew a long list of students who were also ‘form boys’ for Sai Baba
34) Basava Premanand represented abused students at the Sai Colleges (see The Sai Baba and his Students)
35) Testimony from a Sai Baba sexually-abused male and more from Huffington Post
36) Sex wanted by Sai Baba claim and thugs sent after refusal – on Express Buzz (India) by Linda Burton
37) Report by Barry Pittard on Polish man molested by Sai Baba and a Malaysian man oiled genitally

In addition – numerous alleging sex-abused persons whose names are not given here for obvious reasons:-

Testimony from persons who contacted the Sai Petition:-

31)  Dilip NarainAustralia signed the petition on July 8. 2011.Period as a follower: 1979-1982 Position in S.S.Org: student Puttaparti college. “I attended his college with my 2 brothers and was abused sexually. My father handed over thousands of dollars in cash. How could his abuse of innocent children be covered up for so long?”
32) Alvaro Filippo Michelon, Italy signed the petition on April 14. 2011. Period as a follower: 1981 – 1990 “I was first molested by Sai Baba 81. But I thought it was a privilege. I’m so sorry i have lost 10 years of my life…”
33)  Veronica Isacsson, Sweden signed the petition.  Period as a follower: 94-03  “friends of me has been sexually abused by Baba”
34) Rosalia Malagelada de Neves, Venezuela signed the petition.  Period as a follower: 1988 until 2001 Position in S.S.Org: Venezuela Comite “I knew the two cases very close of abuse”
35) Paul Throne, USA signed the petition.  Period as a follower: 1988-2000 Position in S.S.Org: Center education coordinator.  “Have been to see SB 4 times, 1990, 1994, 1995-96 and 1999. Despite many positive experiences, I believe too many credible accounts of abuse now exist to pretend it isn’t real, including a young male friend of mine who told me SB fondled him. More frightening to me than the megalomaniac SB is his organization and its leaders. When the leaders refuse to hear these concerns or allow discussion of these events, it has become a complete mind-control cult.”
36)  David Juliano, USA signed the petition.  “abused by Sai Baba in 1974”
37)  michael smith, USA signed the petition.  “I am a sexual abuse victim advocate who is concerned for all victims in the U.S.”

Genital oiling by Sathya Sai Baba is also reported
:-

(1) Jens Sethi, Germany
(2) Al Rahm (father of Alaya – testified on BBC documentary)
(3) by Greg Gerson USA
(4) Josh Kintz USA – son of Marie and Bruce Kintz (genitally oiled) 6plus two other friends of Sathya Purcell (unidentified) reported by Sharon Purcell
5) Troels Meyer – younger son of deceased Central Coordinator Thorbjørn & Marianne Meyer (EHV – Europe) (reported by his brother, Thomas Meyer)
(6) By a known US author
who, after having published that  SB applied a white ointment  to his chest later stated in an open e-mail that it  was actually on his perineum (behind the gonads).
(7) A Sai student posted (1/10/01) on Sathya Sai Baba Discussion Club under “A Letter I Wrote to Sai Critic” the following “… beside being “oiled” under the pretense of curing a different problem with a totally different part of my anatomy, I was saved from further sexploitation my en masse defections from the closet relatives who were Baba’s choice inner circle for decades who were all victims of his sodomite behaviour. Needless to say, we were villified as usual and were labelled as opportunists. I don’t expect you to believe this or post it on your site but I would appreciate if you sent this to Mr. Murphet. But he is too invested in this for nearly 40 years and I don’t expect him to have an open mind after this long. After all, my own father did not believe what happened to me when it happened. Regards,Taken for a ride for 20 years and called the “chaff””

Other reports of improper (sexual) behaviour by Sathya Sai Baba are many – here are a few

1) Edwin X, the Netherlands (the webmaster has the full details of this person, anonymous here)
2) Anonymous Danish youth
3) Gerald Joe Moreno, USA
4 The Indian web site Express.buzz (see downloaded page here)
They allowed the following comment to be posted on an article in reply to a defender of Sathya Sai Baba:-
TO: Krishnakumar- I used to be a devotee of Sai Baba till my boyfriend was given a private meeting when he took him inside and asked him to do sexual things with him. My boy friend was shocked , he refused, came out. My boy friend is heterosexual. We both left Puttaparthi because, after that we were threatened by Sai Baba’s thugs. We were both 23 yrs old. We realized that we had to leave. So don’t live in your make believe world!!!! Wake up. I bet you are not sexually interesting , otherwise he would have tried you too.

Sathya Sai College: ex-student tells of awful sex culture there  A valuable account to inform those who were at the colleges what others experienced. Much was unsaid about Sathya Sai Baba because of the extreme censorship, the very strong punishments that were meted out to students who talked, up to and including their death.

Sathya Sai Baba’s prediction about Vivekananda’s rebirth proven false

Posted by robertpriddy on June 1, 2011

In a most engaging and revelatory three-part blog series, Barry Pittard – former teacher at Sathya Sai Baba’s Whitefield College near Bangalore – recounts all the facts concerning how Sathya Sai Baba’s Death Falsifies His Vivekananda ‘Reincarnation’ Claim. Pittard met the young man in question in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 1998, which meeting left no doubt that Sai Baba’s declaration was a most unwelcome event in his life, one he rejected completely.

In his attempt to install himself as the Incarnate Godhead, Sathya Sai Baba spread a vast network of rumours and made more excessive claims of divinity than anyone has made in recorded history. Many of the stories he repeatedly embroidered try to represent him as a figure of mythical proportions, relying very much on claims about his role in the lives of divine figures in religious scripture and mythology.

One such invention aimed to appeal to the large Hindu community and diaspora in the West, was his telling a young Sri Lankan man that he was the reincarnation of the famous Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902), who had impressed the West at the Parliament of Religions, Chicago, in 1893. In an interview – urging secrecy – but knowing full well that such a sensational piece of news would spread like wildfire among his followers and become part of the accepted history, Sathya Sai Baba predicted that this young man would come to aid him in his mission in 2021… but Sai Baba is dead as of April 2011!

To investigate how prevalent rumours spread by Sathya Sai Baba and his supporters are, and how central they are to the mythology about him, see here

New Exposure of Sathya Sai Baba in the media

Posted by robertpriddy on March 17, 2011

From Australia, Barry Pittard has just blogged on the ‘Marie Claire’ article on Sathya Sai Baba that appears in the Australian April 2011 edition of this publication, which is one of the premier women’s magazines in the world.

The author of the ‘Marie Claire’ article is Gethin Chamberlain, a senior journalist who has worked for some of the leading media in the world, e.g., The Observer, The Guardian, Grazia, GQ, Look, News of the World, South China Morning Post, The Sunday Telegraph, the Scotsman …..

See:‘Marie Claire’ Magazine: April 2011. Sathya Sai Baba Still Further Exposed. Posted by Barry Pittard on March 14, 2011

For 25 years a devoted follower of Sathya Sai Baba, Pittard dedicated years of his life in service to his then spiritual master, including work among some of India’s poorest people. He is a former lecturer at the Sathya Sai College at Whitefield, via Bangalore, South India, and from circa 2000 has worked assiduously on behalf of Sathya Sai Baba’s victims who live in many countries around the world. Long active in efforts to foster international, professional, third party investigation into Sathya Sai Baba and his cult, Pittard is also one of the most prominent and incisive of serious, well-informed commentators on Sathya Sai Baba and his worldwide sect.

He writes:
“To be sure, there are grave types of crime, and spiritual betrayal on a mammoth international scale, which this article and many others have not, understandably, been able to capture. Nevertheless, it is to advantage that ‘Marie Claire’ features world standard photojournalism, and the ‘Holy Man Or Hoax?’ article contains quite recent and strikingly revealing photos of just some of the incredible opulence with which Sai Baba surrounds himself. His madness, authoritarianism and overweening arrogance are damningly evident to a vast array of human beings, but not to those smitten by their unquestioning faith in him” ….

Although it states that there are many worldwide allegations of Sai Baba’s sexual abuse of young males, and refers to the UNESCO and US State Department advisories, the ‘Maire Claire’ article does not allude to various other scandals, most notably the massive Puttaparthi and local, state and central government cover up of the police killings in Sathya Sai Baba’s bedroom in on 6 April 1993, which BBC television exposed well in ‘The Secret Swami’, in 2004. See:Barry Pittard’s Guide To His Articles On The BBC’s ‘The Secret Swami’ (Exposing Sai Baba) and: V.P.B. Nair. B.Premanand. R.Priddy: Sai Baba Bedroom Killings and: Will V.P.B. Nair Keep His Word To BBC On Sathya Sai Baba? and: V.K. Narasimhan on the 1993 Sathya Sai Baba murders and: Sathya Sai Baba and India in-depth study. Two examples Chamberlain cites give typical examples of the guru-blinded nature of many Sathya Sai Baba cultists (and cultists of many another feather!), and the manner in which they bury their consciences in rationalizations that defy ethics common to many cultures, and indeed contravene the laws of a great many countries ….”

Barry Pittard on sex abuses – Scouts, Nithyananda, Sathya Sai Baba, Pope

Posted by robertpriddy on April 1, 2010

In the current very promising awakening of the public and the media to more and more religious sexual abuse, Barry Pittard draws parallels and comparisons between some of the major cases in the public eye at present. That this phenomenon is not merely found in religious institutions is obvious, but the overwhelming attempt at cover-up seem to be endemic to all religions, sects and cults.

One striking similarity between the Catholic Church and Sai Baba is that both have State authority for their cover-ups.. the Pope is head of Vatican State and Sai Baba has the Indian government at his feet and in his pocket.

Gerald Moreno firmly defends sex abusers and cover-up

Posted by robertpriddy on March 31, 2010

In recent days at our blogsites, Barry Pittard, former lecturer at the Sathya Sai College at Whitefield, and I have made a number of comparisons between the massive Roman Catholic sex abuse cover-up and that of Sathya Sai Baba and his officials. Gerald ‘Joe’ Moreno is leagued with key associates of Sai Baba constantly attacks anyone who speaks out about the innumerable sexual and other allegations against Sai Baba and certain of his confederates. These vitriolic and obsessive attacks have continued almost daily for about 6 years. He ridicules virtually everything we have written, as well as initiates attacks on ourselves and families. These attacks even extend to our children, one of them still a minor, and include attacks relating to business, university, community and profession. These attacks have been reported to various authorities, which are hamstrung owing to difficulties attending the current state of the internet. See comment by Barry Pittard.

Gerald Moreno declared he believed Sathya Sai Baba to be a sexual abuser

Scan of part of Gerald Moreno FAQ page since removed by him as damage limitation. For several years Moreno defended Sathya Sai Baba in hundreds of postings against every criticism, while himself believing this!!

As ever, Moreno always plants himself firmly on the side of sexual abuse cover-up, denying it or defending it, and never exposes or attacks it in any way… (see scan of his credo for years – on the right). Further, Moreno has for many years defended Swami Premananda (http://www.vishvarupa.com/swami-sri-premananda.html) , who is serving a double life sentence for multiple rape and murder, based on DNA analysis. Premananda’s appeal to the highest court in India was refused! (See prosecution data here)

Moreno thus shows himself to lean strongly towards denial of the truth even of fully proven sexual abuses. There is a very convincing reason for this – that he was himself groomed in a sexual molestation incident with Sathya Sai Baba which event – along with the many testimonies by young men, their parents and others against Sai Baba  – originally led him to realise this ‘God’ is a sexual abuser.  However, he chose later to deny that Sai Baba’s oiling of the nether parts of the stomach could have been grooming for sexual relations (as is openly testified was the case by many others) plunging himself further into indoctrination and denial, admitting being confused and sexually inhibited afterwards (according to his own published explanation). He has fought a losing battle against the truly formidable circumstantial evidence that has built up and continues to come in. The Catholic Church abuses alone prove that it take decades for abused persons to come forth with their accounts, so much more may be expected as the years go by.

Moreno never presents serious argumentation other than character assassination, smears, endless charges of lying – and he uses all manner of dirty tricks rather than any independent documentation or rational and well-founded arguments to confront what we assert. He strenuously avoids the issue of the accountability and transparency that should confront the international Sathya Sai Organization, just as it faces all institutions in a democratic society. Many decent Sai Baba followers find his acute negativism, hatred, jeering and offensive language abhorrent, for they run contrary to Sai Baba’s own explicit teachings. In fact, many of the world’s most responsible investigative media like the BBC, CBC, SBS, DR, Times of London, Telegraph, Guardian, India Today, The Age, Salon.com, and so forth, have exposed Sathya Sai Baba and his cult as highly authoritarian and unaccountable. Interestingly, virtually no one goes public in his favour, while many do on our behalf. (1460 persons so far have signed the petition we helped to instigate).

Not a ‘smear campaign’ against Sathya Sai Baba

Posted by robertpriddy on January 29, 2010

It is claimed by some current devotees or defenders of Sathya Sai Baba that I and Barry Pittard are running a huge “smear campaign” against them. This characterisation of our work is unjustified, because – were it genuinely a smear campaign – it could be contested by Sathya Sai Baba legally. That he has not done, which indicates that he knows full well – and his many advisors are also no doubt aware – that I have taken much care not to post a single statement which can be legally proved to be libel. The cover-up in India to the highest levels of all his alleged sexual abuses and murder involvement is indisputable, as I have also campaigned to make the world aware, not least here.

What I have done is primarily to reproduce available evidence – writings, testimonies, published materials from the world media – and commented on it in the light of statements made by himself and his various officials and defenders. I have promoted the writings of scores of disaffected followers who have published their experiences both on the Internet and sometimes elsewhere. Note that I am a member of the 32-strong JuST group, which includes many professionals who call for public investigation of Sai Baba and his organization. The JuST group have invited the Prashanthi Council – Sai Baba’s policy-making body – to respond to their concerns, but are met with total silence. This also shows that they are unaccountable to public opinion and have the nature of a closed and secretive cult.

I have also related my own experiences through 18 years as the top  office-bearer in his Organization in Norway and a frequent visitor to his ashrams. This I have done entirely truthfully – so they cannot be disproved by any honest means – and stated my opinions of him based on my personal knowledge of him and I have reported what has been told about him by some very close servitors. Much of this is documented in my very voluminous daily diaries from the time of my nine visits, of which I have scanned a selection, and which exist as evidence from a time when I was still a follower of Sathya Sai Baba and believed in the main what he said (if not everything, for there were his more incredible claims and incorrect statements).

There is, however a massive  smear campaign directed against me, Barry Pittard and every single critic of Sathya Sai Baba by the foremost Internet defender of Sathya Sai Baba, his organization and all persons positively connected with him. This is the work of the Las Cruces, New `Mexico resident, Gerald Moreno, of no known profession or qualifications other than a huge propensity for denial of facts, obsessive attempts to insult and assassinate the characters of all against whom he takes exception. That we have not held him legally accountable is primarily due to the waste of time, energy and money it would involve to give such attention to this nonentity, whose campaign is easily seen by anyone of independent mind or common sense to be a self-defeating exercise. For example, he defends the convicted rapist and murderer, Swami Premananda of Tiruvannamalai, and defended Sai Baba for some years while actually believing him to be a sexual abuser (he had his own sexual molestation incident with Sai Baba, about which he is in deep denial, admitting being confused and sexually inhibited afterward by his own explanation). Moreno’s efforts only serve to increase the controversy about Sathya Sai Baba and make sure we are active in exposing Sathya Sai Baba further so as not to be swamped out by positive propaganda and smears.

Dr. G. Venkataraman, propagandist in the limelight

Posted by robertpriddy on September 28, 2009

Presentation of new free car to G. Venkataraman

Dr. G. Venkataraman, a physicist, formerly employed in India’s nuclear bomb programme community, became a devotee of Sathya Sai Baba when he suffered major depression after the loss of his son. Being one of the few somewhat notable scientists in the following, he was duly made Vice-Chancellor of Sai Baba’s university at Puttaparthi. He is now on the central body ruling Sai matter, the Prashanthi Council, and is 2nd-in-command of the International Sathya Sai Organization. As head of Sai Global Harmony which broadcasts Sai propaganda en masse via WorldSpace International Satellite Radio Service, 24/7 to a number of countries. The agenda of this multi-billion dollar mini-empire involves penetration of the world and infiltrations of all official bodies, governments, UN organizations and so on. The entire set-up has virtually all of the distinguishing features of a clandestinely-managed religious cult. They exploit the liberal world’s tolerance under freedom of religion legislation, though they operate in a completely top-down, no feedback, autocratic and censoring cult.

Dr Venkataraman is tantamount to being Sathya Sai Baba’s ‘minister of propaganda’. All but the very topmost officials of the Sathya Sai Organization are permitted to comment on any issues concerning Sathya Sai Baba and his Organization. G. Venkataraman is such a top official, who nonetheless writes as little as possible about the world-wide controversy about his Lord and Master (who he considers to be the actual Creator of the Entire Universe – and he is supposed to be a scientific physicist!) He has even promoted Sathya Sai Baba’s blessings and endorsement visits to the former dictator of Uganda Idi Amin, who reportedly wept with tears of devotion at Sai Baba’s feet.

Venkataraman has made much of a civil lawsuit against the directors of the Sathya Sai Society of America in the USA because it was eventually dismissed by the plaintiff. This is taken as a victory exonerating Sathya Sai Baba, while in fact it was a botched litigation where the judge of the Orange County Court did not allow Sathya Sai Baba to be sued from the USA, requiring it be done in India. Further, there was no responsible, registered Sathya Sai Organization in the USA, but only a Society with a charitable status, run as a Sai Baba bookshop, so the case became non-viable with no one to prosecute. This did not stop Venkataraman and his supporter and befriender, Gerald Joe Moreno, making a mountain of victory out of a molehill of a self-dismissed lawsuit! Adding insult to injury, Venkataraman virtually crowed over this, entirely ignoring that the plaintiff – Alaya Rahm – is but one of many young men throughout the world who accuse Sathya Sai Baba of sexually molesting them. Venkataraman never shows the slightest compassion or willingness to confront facts… he claims he has never found a student who says he was abused. However, no one in their right senses while still in India – where students have been murdered in cold blood in Sai Baba’s bedroom – would trust such information to this totally blind and uncaring devotee of Sai Baba as Lord of the Cosmos that they had been sexually violated by him…for the consequences could well be too terrible to contemplate. Venkataraman behaved as if a dissenter is a figure for derision, as does his on-line supporter Gerald Joe Moreno without any compunction or moral values. (Venkataraman has never distanced himself in any way from Moreno, which speaks volumes about his attitude. In his official position he could almost effortlessly silence this totally ant-spiritual cyber terrorist!)

The article ‘The Sathya Sai Organization’s Deception and Propaganda Exposed’ was co-authored by Robert Priddy and Barry Pittard. It responds to Dr G. Venkataraman attempts to whitewash Sathya Sai Baba by techniques of decontextualisation, misrepresentation and general opinionated pseudo-spiritual claims.

How Dave Lyons realised the Sai movement is really a cult

Posted by robertpriddy on August 31, 2009

By David J. Lyons (Sai Baba follower from 1981 to 2000. Ex-President of the Center of Greater New Orleans). Date: 03-13-05

No one wants to believe that an organization he/she was an integral part of is a cult. I could not have been basking more in the glory of the avatar with such vigor, such pride, such enthusiasm as I was in those last five years, 1995-2000. Not only did I believe all the stories coming out of Puttaparthi, I actually repeated them to my colleagues, friends and relatives. The only thing I did not do was try to recruit new members for the Sathya Sai Organization. I believed that Sathya Sai Baba was calling devotees at his pleasure, at their karmic level, and, most importantly, at his omniscience. I believed that a majority of the world’s population would come to honor him as avatar before his passing in 2022. I was happy that I was one of the early ones. Such was my position and feelings and beliefs–until it all came crashing down.

From April, 2000, until early July, 2000, I was sending emails, and snail mail to those who did not have computers–all pertaining to the sexual crimes and the murders at the ashram on June 6, 1993. All I wanted was for them to take an objective look at the mounting evidence, to talk to some of the victims of Sathya Sai Baba’s sexual molestations. In this time period many were coming forward with their stories. The posting of THE FINDINGS on the Internet was the triggering mechanism for creating courage among many molested ones, and a personal hand-written letter from a teen victim, sent to all the presidents of U.S. Centers, was devastating. When I saw that most of our devotees, the majority who were from India, would not even contemplate taking even so much as a peek at anything negative regarding SSB’s criminal actions, I was astounded. The term “cult” had not entered my mind until much later in the year of 2000.

In July, 2000, Al Rahm and wife Marisa came to New Orleans for a convention. We renewed our friendship, I showed them the town, and we had heart to heart talks. There was another devotee couple here who had defected and we all had dinner together. Al had then introduced me to Glen Meloy, via email, who was forming a support group. I was happy to become part of this group as I felt like the Lone Ranger battling the likes of Michael Goldstein et al. During this time period I was gratified to hear of the resignation of Shirley Pike, who had been the president of the North Central Region of USA. We (myself and a few other devotees from the New Orleans Center) had begun making trips to St. Louis for the Memorial Day retreats when the North and South Central Regions did a combined retreat just outside of St. Louis, Missouri. When the new South Central Region was carved from the states of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma (1997), some members of our Center still made the trip to St. Louis, and to Texas for our regular Labor Day retreat. As for as I know, I was the only Center president to resign and defect, and Shirley and Rick Raines were the only Regional presidents to resign and defect–both from the North and South Central Regions.

The impetus for this Revisited and Revised Spiritual Odyssey was the memory of Glen Meloy, who died on New Year’s Day, 2005. I had spoken to Glen for the last time just after Thanksgiving of 2004. He was in terrible pain. Glen’s contact for updates was the other worldwide leader of the Expose`, Barry Pittard. Glen and I had spoke many times since that initial contact in July, 2000. He gave his last ounce of energy and courage in a superlative effort to protect children and teens from being molested by SSB, and he was making great progress in several areas of the Exposé. Barry’s efforts have been marvelous also. It was Barry who carried the sad news to me and many other former devotees–all who had developed a network to bring justice for the crimes of SSB.

Glen Meloy was a devotee of Sathya Sai Baba for 26 years, and during that time he gave freely of his time in many categories, managing the book center for America in Tustin, California, among many other volunteered seva (service). We had long conversations about the ones who remained loyal to Sai Baba, and we were especially shocked at the complicity of Jack Hislop, who had been on the receiving end of so many hand-written letters from Sathya Sai Baba. Jack had known since the 1970s of the molestations. Jack Hislop was the most-liked of the highest-ranking devotees of the planet. I sure liked him a lot, so when I discovered he had known all along (note: he died before the big scandal broke open) I was filled with chagrin. We were incredulous about many other high-ranking office bearers here in USA not willing to look at any evidence, not willing to talk to some of the victims, not willing to admit that these sexual molestations were crimes–all because they believed that the avatar could do what he wanted to, that he was above the laws – and morality. Very soon we realized we were part of a very subtle cult, a cult of personality involving a very charismatic guru who had, at least in part and in the past, powerful paranormal attributes.

List of Some Prominent Former Devotees Who Have Spoken Out – Despite repeated attacks on them. The list also excludes many who are known or understood to have spoken out but of whom we lack proper documentation. Gerald Moreno – Christian Fundamentalists, Anti-Semitism, Fascism

Posted by robertpriddy on May 3, 2009

The pro-Sai activist and front man on the Internet for defending Sai Baba and Co., Gerald Moreno, has tried by all kinds of false insinuation to smear former followers of Sathya Sai Baba in numerous ways – too many even to summarize effectively here. His unconcealed and massive agenda of trying to find devious ways simply to assassinate their characters, and bundle all together as liars and worse has been exposed on this blog site already.

“Second Coming” according to Moreno: He introduced the term “second coming” in a heated slanging match with Tony O’Cleary on Yahoo groups. He now tries to worm his way out of this that he uses the term “second coming” – when applied to what “Anti-Sai activists cling” –  in a wholly non-Christian sense. But the term is overwhelmingly related to fundamentalist Christian belief. This unalienable association arises firstly in any mind. Moreno relies on such methods to try to create false impressions. Such as when he greeted me “Heil Priddy” (he cannot deny he did so as it is recorded). In his latest blog on Christian fundamentalism he even uses an image of the risen Christ to increase the association of this idea to my name.

By picking out and magnifying a minor point into a long cantankerous justification intended to prove he has never ever even indirectly tried to associate me with Christian Fundamentalism. In view of all the evidence, it signally fails to pass the test of resonability.  Meanwhile, he also carefully avoids the challenge that he called Reinier van der Sandt a fundamentalist Christian, which both he and I can attaest is most certainly not true. Moreno is unable to face up to the proofs against his constant stream of base and baseless slurs against critics of the guru whose following he says he has left, but continues religiously to defend and praise.

Moreno has gone to considerable lengths to try to colour Sai Baba critics in general as Christians and/or fundamentalists of some degree:-
“For several years, many people have correctly suspected that there are Fundamentalist and Evangelical Christian movements against Sathya Sai Baba and Hinduism. Anti-Sai Activists have continually denied that Christian movements exist and have tried to dismiss these suspicions as excuse-making and the like.”[from Moreno’s web page at http://www.saisathyasai.com/baba/Ex-Baba.com/christian-atheist-anti-sai-movements.html%5D

How we could have “have continually denied that Christian movements exist” is preposterous in itself. Moreno makes many such sweeping generalizations and also has tried to compromise the entire range of individual he groups under the common brand “Anti-Sai Activists” in many devious ways. Such as because some Christian website has linked to critics’ pages! They were not asked to link and no one known in the exposé has had anything whatever to do with them. Moreno tries to smears by association.

Anti-Semitism slurs: Moreno has applied the same McCarthy techniques to his claim that Barry Pittard is anti-Semitic. The facts are strongly to the contrary! See Barry Pittard’s full refutation of this slur here. and also see Sai Baba Internet Man – No Apology When Caught Using

Gerald Moreno’s fundamentalist Christian slur campaign

Posted by robertpriddy on April 26, 2009

The pro-Sai activist and most active front man for Sathya Sai Baba on the Internet, Gerald Joe Moreno, bashes critics of Sathya Sai Baba as fundamentalist Christians and/or anti-Semites. He does it because he has the proved agenda of trying to find devious ways to assassinate their characters, not because there is any truth whatever in it. He called Reinier van der Sandt a fundamentalist Christian, which he is certainly not. He has gone to considerable lengths to try to paint Sai Baba critics in general as Christians and/or fundamentalists, or something related to that, for example on his web page at http://www.saisathyasai.com/baba/Ex-Baba.com/christian-atheist-anti-sai-movements.html Here are his words of introduction from that page:-

For several years, many people have correctly suspected that there are Fundamentalist and Evangelical Christian movements against Sathya Sai Baba and Hinduism. Anti-Sai Activists have continually denied that Christian movements exist and have tried to dismiss these suspicions as excuse-making and the like.”

All those what he lumps together willy-nilly as “Anti-Sai activists” should “have continually denied that Christian movements exist” is preposterous in itself. He continues to try to make it seem that “Anti-Sai Activists” are compromised because a Christian website linked to their pages! They were not asked to link and no one known in the exposé has had anything whatever to do with them. This is Moreno’s typical deceitful spin to try to smear by invented association. See what he wrote:-

“Anton and Janet Hein-Hudson are the Fundamentalist Christian webmasters to apologeticsindex.org, which posts voluminous Anti-Sai articles and resources (they refuse to link to any site that refute Anti-Sai Articles)” and Strangely enough, Anton William Hein was a minister in California who sexually abused a child and was convicted of the same.”  (Crafty innuendo!)

This is all part of his long list of persons with Christian or fundamentalist leanings  – none of whom have any importance to the main exposé writers, but which he subtly implies by various means are involved as a homogenous group of “Anti-Sais” It is a fact that Tal Brooke, the first known published whistle-blower became a Christian with strong fundamentalist leanings, and that current exposé writers acknowledge his role – and even consider his testimony important as part of the developing scenario. This certainly does not make any of us in agreement with his faith.

Moreno also wrote “Reinier Van Der Sandt (RVDS) is a Fundamentalist Christian who is the webmaster for ExBaba.com, the portal to the largest Anti-Sai Site on the internet.” RVDS also wrote two letters to Cardinal Simonis trying to polarize Christians against Sathya Sai Baba. In Reinier Van Der Sandt’s second letter, he said: “This letter clearly shows that the catholic church and its representative Cardinal Simonis are not happy with the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba in India.”

None of this remotely proves that van der Sandt is a Christian or a fundamentalist, but it is Moreno’s agenda to smear his as such as far as he can.

A further point of contention: On his libelous attack blog site (posing as “Sathya Sai Baba – Life, Love & Spirituality”) , Moreno stated:- “Moreno never (ever) accused Robert Priddy (even indirectly) of being a “fundamentalist Christian”

I draw special attention to the “even indirectly” bit, because – for a start – he has very strongly insinuated that I am/was a fundamentalist Christian as I shall prove from his own words. I recall that he has included me in this accusation, most probably on the now defunct Yahoo groups ‘sathyasaibaba2’ pages, a set of countless postings on the website which the moderator has expunged, so I cannot find the posting now. Knowing Moreno, he may well be counting on this deletion when making his denial… besides which there are many indications that his memory is clearly far from perfect too. So it is a matter of his word and his memory against mine as to whether he called me this outright… Note that his words has constantly been proved untrue.

Firstly, Joe Moreno (as “>vishvarupa108 made wide accusations of clinging to a Christian fundamentalist belief against the group he calls “anti-Sais” which is shown in the following posting which turned up in an archived e-mail attachment I received. There he claimed we all cling to a “second coming” mentality because we have nothing else to cling to. Wholly preposterous, of course, and indicative of Christian fundamentalism – for belief in the Second Coming is hardly no longer a belief promoted by mainstream Christianity (as opposed to fundamentalists).  Moreno’s co-worker Lisa de Witt (who he never criticises or corrects despite her outrageous statements) has definitively included and named me as Christian and fundamentalist (which she may try to deny). Therefore Moreno is obviously aligned with her by his recent stated support for her claims.

So Moreno hypocritically tries through vehement denial to appear to distance himself from the business of smearing “Anti-Sais” as Christians and/or fundamentalists among whom he definitively includes me…  along with others of diverse faith and shades of opinion.

My statements have never been wilfully untrue, and I do correct anything that really proves to be incorrect as soon as I am aware of it. I do not read Moreno’s e-mails, nor open his web pages and blogs unless essential – as I have recently done to some extent – so he may have pointed out some small  errors that I did not therefore heed. Every tiny flaw Moreno can find he names a flagrant lie, a bold-faced lie, a shameless lie and so on and on… Unlike those of us who write with integrity and admits errors when they occur, Moreno NEVER retracts a single one of his false and witless accusations, he NEVER corrects any wrong information that is pointed out to him. Yet he repeatedly demands it of others in the strongest terms. This I call hypocrisy.
