The making of BBC’s film “The Secret Swami” and key unpublished facts

Posted by robertpriddy on November 5, 2013

The following mail containing vital information concerning the making of the BBC film “The Secret Swami” in 2004 is at least of historic interest. It  was fowarded to me by an exposé activist. Though it was confidential at the time, there is no reason to suppress these facts any longer.  The mailer was Basava Premanand, India’s former chief rationalist who was honoured by the government with its highest award for the promotion of scientific values among the public. He was one of the BBC’s chief contacts in India in the preparation and making of the film “The Secret Swami”, and the previously unpublished information in his mail throws light on the process and editing of the film.

NOTE: The links and purple text inserts within the mail have been inserted by me, Robert Priddy, for those who do not know to whom or what Premanand was referring. Eamon

Dear friends,

Hereby I am acknowledging the mail of:
1. email from Glen dated 2.5.2004 sent at 11.12 pm Re: John Purcell (Glen was Glen Meloy, one of the first disaffected after 1999 who helped the BBC greatly in the USA. John Purcell was an outspoken youth having been sexually abused by Sathya Sai Baba when still a minor)
2. email from Barry dated 2.5.2004 sent at 10:24 pm Re : John Purcell
3. email from Barry dated 2.5.2004 sent at 3:44 pm Re: Eamon confusion, Future Co-production ideo, BJP questions – Siddharth Sharma and any Jesuit – Hindutva Problem?

I am replying to your questions one by one. On 29.4.2004 Eamon and David Savill (note: Eamon Hardy, director and David Saville, producer)  have written to me that he can fly over to India if I want him to in May. I replied them that due to election it would be difficult to find Police Officers as they will be very busy in election duties. And if the government in Andhra changes they will be able to speak freely as they will have to be very careful of Naidu (N. Chandrababa Naidu Chief Minister for Andhra Pradesh)  who may put them to problems. Though it may not be possible for the government to dismiss them they will be harassed much.

The Interviews BBC didn’t film:-

1. Meeting Ravi who escaped from murder along with Vijay Prabhu to get the present addresses of the youths seduced by SSB.

2. Exposing Gopalakrishna Baba who claims to be a female and SSB the only male and that he is a Pathivrata. He was a bed mate of SSB. (Gopalakrishna Baba lived in a small Sai Baba temple in Bangalore)

3. Exposing Vibhuthi falling from SSB’s photographs at Karwar which was mishandled by Eamon Hardy.

4. Interviewing Mr. Rajan, the then Joint Director of CB-CID and other high ranking Police officers who investigated the murders on 6.6.1993.

5. Exposing Halagappa in Srirangapatnam where Vibhuthi comes from the SSB photos there and Amrit flowing from the lockets and under the concrete feet of SSB. Also film the opium plantations as opium is mixed in the Amrit.

6. To meet Sandeepan Chatterjee.

7. Meeting Vijaya Kumari (her brother is my neighbour whose father was alleged to have been resurrected thrice. Also to interview her on the 1st Bed mate of Sai Baba “Krishna” whom SSB called “Radha”.

8. Interviewing Diwakar Muthu Krishna who had married N. Radhakrishna’s sister who died in mysterious circumstances and who was the person who stood near the interview room and was also a bed mate of SSB.

9. Interviewing Neptune (sexually-abused by Sai Baba Neptune Chapotin)

10. Interviewing the Editor of Vijaya Viharam Mr. Ramana Murthy

11. Interviewing the Shop who supplies Vibhuthi to SSB.

12. Interviewing the Jewellers to sell jewellery to SSB to create them (Canadians interviewed Ashwath Narayana)

13. Interviewing Balaji whose kidney was stolen from SSB superspecialty hospital (Canadians interviewed them)

14. Interviewing the wife of a police constable who gave her Kidney to be transplanted to her husband and she has also a bill for about 10,000/- for purchasing medicine for her husband after the transplant but her husband died within a week.

Though arrangement were fully made by me to meet them and I went to Bangalore I was informed that they would meet them with the help of their staff and they failed because they phoned them first for permission for the interview.

What they filmed:-

1. Interviewing the mother of a youth who was murdered in 1987 as he ran away when he was to be sexually abused and later he was murdered by burning in the College Campus in day light and the police closed the case as suicide. All the school students protested before the police station and their parents were warned of police action against them.

2. Interviewing the father of murdered E.K. Suresh Kumar (you have mentioned him as a friend of Sidharth Sharma). He came to India to file a case about the murder and has given me power of Attorney to go even to International Courts. Being afraid of problems in India he has left for Malaysia after the interview.

3. They interviewed the then Home Secretary who has noted on the file of the murders in 1997 that action has to be taken against the police officers and the culprits behind the murders was Dora then Commissioner of Police and after retirement also filed a writ petition against the Government for closing the case on a confidential Govt. Order. It was dismissed. I had only 6 days with them from 26th to 31st March and I had to leave for Punjab to attend the National Conference of the Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations.

4. Interviewing Dr. Bhatia and Joshi the HRD Union Minister.

5. They interviewed my advocate Mr. K.N. Balgopal

6. They interviewed me for a full day and went through some records and letters from Supreme Court judges and politicians who have written to me that fighting SSB is futile and to use the money for some better purpose. At any rate the documentary when it is released would be an atom bomb.

7. Whom all they interviewed directly I don’t know.

As Mr. Eamon wanted to interview the above in May I wrote to him that it will be possible only after the election as all govt. officers and politicians would be busy in the election duty and will not be in their office.

My reply was sent only on 30th night and I am waiting for Eamon’s reply. As soon as I get I shall inform you.

He was very much interested to see a photograph wherein SSB is having oral sex in 1976 with an Indian youth. I have kept it as a trumph card in my case if the Supreme Court tries to dismiss our special leave petition. I have told BBC that they will be given the first preference when we are ready to publish it. (The photo was later stolen by a major burgling of Premanand’s house) I also have informed him that in the internet there was a mention of SSB having oral sex with an overseas student and if it is true I can ask my friends to contact them so that they may fly to the country. I am wondering whether you have been able to get information of the photograph and the address. I have written to you about it and am waiting anxiously to know whether he has been traced.

BBC did not make use of me for interviewing the Indian Youths who were sexually molested. I wanted to go and meet Ravi who escaped from being murdered to get the present addresses of molested youths who would come forward to be interviewed. As at that time I was financially very bad I asked for a loan of Rs. 20000/- to go about tracing their present address. I was informed by Eamon that they would themselves investigate through their staff.

What you have said in your email of 2.5.2004 sent at 3.36 pm you are correct of what BBC is up to.

Let us wait for 17.6.2004 on which date the documentary will be telecast and watch the outcome. The first exposure of SSB’s miracle shown in Guru Busters with a dozen of VVIP politicians as witnesses produced by Indian TV Doordarshan made for SSB’s propaganda film telecast by BBC, it was me who managed to get a copy and send it to my friend in London “Robert Eagle” who made the Guru Buster film. I believe I have touched most of the points raised by you and we have to wait for the release of the BBC documentary on 17.6.2004. Then I would plan for the future.

Regarding the Affidavits from the abused students please see to the following.

1. That their statements have records to prove that at that time they were in Puttaparthy, that they were called to the interview room etc., This is very necessary. It is not enough to say that they were used for sex by SSB. It would be necessary to produce these records in the court.

With regards

B. Premanand

Sathya Sai Baba was exposed long ago

Posted by robertpriddy on May 1, 2011

Outlook India have produced another excellent article about Sathya Sai Baba which deserves wide circulation. The first posted her yesterday as a support to the cause of clearing false gurus out of India, in which countless thrive, even though some are honest and are genuinely devoted on their actions to serving their followers and the country. Here it is:-

Rahul Singh - an Indian rationalist

Holy Smoke And Mirrors
Exposes or not, godmen will thrive, public figures will kiss their feet
Rahul Singh

Why are we so gullible and so full of superstition? No other major society has such a variety of outlandish—and thriving—swamis, gurus, yogis, babas, acharyas, bhagwans, astrologers, palmists, numerologists and faith healers as ours does. Some put on intellectual airs (Rajneesh), others claim “miracle” cures—even for cancer (Ramdev). All of them are, without exception, wily con artists and spiritual fraudsters, eager to ferret money out of you. And if you are an attractive woman or a fetching young boy, quite a few will attempt to seduce you (many succeed, Nityananda did). Yet, millions of Indians, even the highly educated, flock to them. They probably command more followers than organised religion does. When India won the T20 World Cup, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh, both Sikhs, did not dedicate their success to Guru Nanak, but to some baba belonging to some dera. And what about Sachin Tendulkar, idolised by an entire nation? As the photos in the newspapers show, he turns out to have been an ardent follower of the recently departed Sathya Sai Baba, who is probably the most successful “godman” of them all—at least fiscally, having built a colossal empire estimated at a mind-boggling Rs 40,000 crore, most of it foolishly forked out by credulous Indian devotees. I knew that Sunil Gavaskar had been a disciple of the fuzzy-haired Baba. But Sachin? He has come down a notch or two in my estimation.

The first person to expose Sai Baba was the late Sri Lankan rationalist Abraham Kovoor. He decided to look into the Baba’s famous claim that when the Japanese head of the Seiko watch company visited him, he had “materialised” a Seiko watch, the only specimen of which lay in a Tokyo vault. Kovoor wrote to the company, asking for details. The company wrote back that nobody from the company had visited Sai Baba and that no such specimen of a watch existed in a Tokyo vault. The story had been cooked up by one of Sai Baba’s advisers! When Kovoor published his findings, there was a deafening silence from the Sai Baba camp. Kovoor’s seminal book, Begone Godmen, is essential reading for those who still believe in these fakes and liars. In the 1970s, Kovoor undertook “miracle exposure” tours of the country, during which he demonstrated, with the help of magicians, exactly how our “godmen” performed their “miracles”. I was at one such demonstration on the Bombay University campus, where the magician accompanying him showed, to everybody’s glee and amazement, how light bulbs could be chewed and swallowed, objects could materialise “from thin air”, and a person could walk barefoot unharmed on burning embers—all of which are standard fare for magicians and have rational explanations.

There was also a simple trick to the framed pictures of Sai Baba shedding vibhuti (holy ash). The pictures’ framers would use aluminum frames and dab a mercuric chloride solution on them. Upon coming into contact with moisture, a chemical reaction would occur and grey ash fell—vibhuti! Kovoor also conclusively exposed astrologers. When the so-called science of astrology was born hundreds of years ago, he reasoned, the concept of light taking time to travel was unknown. In other words, the planets, thousands of miles away and moving at great speed, were not where the eye sees them. Since astrologers insist on knowing the precise time of birth and the position of planets, their predictions, therefore, had to be wholly wrong and their “science” completely bogus. After Kovoor died in 1978, Basava Premanand (who died in 2009) took up the fight. He, too, went after the redoubtable Sai Baba. Since the Baba claimed to materialise objects of gold, Premanand filed a writ petition against him in the Andhra Pradesh High Court under Section 11 of the Gold Control Act, which mandates permission from the gold control administrator for manufacturing gold! Of course, nothing came of the petition, given Sai Baba’s enormous political clout, but the point was made. The trouble is, despite the damning exposes of Kovoor and Premanand, too many Indians will keep believing that Ganesh idols can drink milk and that a natural ice formation is the lingam of Lord Shiva and to be worshipped as such. And ministers will continue to consult astrologers before taking momentous decisions, superstitious women will add a letter to their names (Shobhaa, Jayalalithaa), and swamis will merrily consort with women who have infertile or impotent husbands—while Dr Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi genuflect before the body of Sai Saba (Would Jawaharlal Nehru have done that? Never!), thereby lending respectability to irrationality and quackery.

Murders in ‘The Abode of Supreme Peace’ [Prashanthi Nilayam] -2

Posted by robertpriddy on October 19, 2010

The aftermath of executions: Sai Baba's sofa, knives of the murdered followers, potassium cyanide bottle etc.

The aftermath of executions: Sai Baba's sofa, knives of the murdered followers, potassium cyanide bottle etc.

Should the utterly despicable cold-blooded executions of the four devotees in Sathya Sai Baba’s apartment be forgotten because of the despicable cover-up by the Government of India, the graphic description needs is being circulated once again.- After having intruded into the Prashanthi Nilayam temple and survived a knife battle in which two of the Baba´s servitors were killed – four devotees were trapped in the apartment and, hours later, were mowed down in a rain of bullets by police. If there is any justice or concern for what is right in this world, this unsolved major murder case will continue increasingly to haunt Indian authorities and the probity of its rulers in the last two decades for many long years to come.

No form of justice or redress of any kind was allowed for any of the bereaved or those affected by Sathya Sai Baba’s staff purges of ashramites whose lives had been dedicated to service under the figurehead of Sathya Sai Baba. Due to Sathya Sai Baba’s power over his top Indian government followers, it is unsafe for anyone within India to speak out or make a public record of what they know about this. Therefore, some foreign ex-followers are filling that gap assiduously! Here is the continuing account of what the damning photo evidence indicates, as made by former world-famous India Sceptic, Basava Premanand:-

The top left picture is the interview room of Sai Baba next to his bed room where Sai Baba meets the members of his trust and other functionaries [[Note: as of 1993]]: There are two wooden poles, one stained with blood, a pillow with blood stain, a wall clock, a table lamp and other articles on the sofa. But no blood on the sofa. The very fact that these materials are on the sofa set proves some one had placed them on the sofa. This proves that there were others in Sai Baba residence. On the left side of the sofa near the teapoy there is rope and a stick. In front of the sofa on the left side is a hose and a T-shaped metal instrument. On the right side in front of the sofa, part of a red and blue box or book is seen. The teapoy on the left side of the sofa is full with materials – flask, idol of Ramakrishna. etc.,

Pic.6 shows seven knives one as long as 4 feet. lt is not known how these could be hidden in their body by the four alleged assailants when blood stains are seen especially on the 4 foot  sword and the metal instrument. They were not found near the bodies of the four assailants.
As per the interview given by Retired Jus. Balakrishna Erady, Supreme Court, the 4 alleged assailants being the watchmen of the residence for the night had carried their bedding and the knives etc. might have been hidden in the bedding. But their bedding is not found inside the residence as per the observations of the mandal executive magistrate:

Pic.8 is of the 2 bottles containing potassium cyanide and ether and the rest are the defused bomb parts with wire etc. The police have not explained how alter a thorough search of the premises on 7th, they discovered the bombs on 8.6.1993. Also because of the visit of president’s family and home minister the whole complex would have been searched by the intelligence department as per the protocol. When the bombs were not found then, it proves beyond doubt that the bombs were planted after the murders to make the murder case strong.

Sathya Sai Baba’s influence on the Indian Judiciary

Posted by robertpriddy on September 6, 2010

Basava Premanand probed deeply into various claims by devotees that Sathya Sai Baba had ‘fixed’ the judiciary to protect them. His voluminous correspondence with court authorities at all levels show how he was given a pathetic run-around and that his questions were never answered by anyone, but referred to others. In no remotely democratic judiciary would this be tolerated. But then, everyone knows that the Indian courts are among the worst in the world for doing justice – or even allowing petitions to be heard. T.N. Seshan himself complained of the undemocratic state of affairs in India when he was Chief Election Commissioner Failings in Indian Justice – by ex-Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan, though he admitted it had improved somewhat later on. Meanwhile, many other level-headed observers and academics in India deplore the judiciary, the red tape, the corruption (paying to jump the endless queue of cases and much more). It is widely proven that corruption flourishes at most levels in the Indian administration, and not least at the very top!

In 1981 I came across the 48th divine dawn Birthday Number of the News Chronicle dated 23.11.1973 so also the souvenir published by Sri Satya Sai Seva Samithi, Bombay titled “AT THE LOTUS FEET 1968”.

The article “Those early years” authored by Y.R. Ghorpade, EX Maharaja of Sandur attracted my attention as it contained a defamatory sentence defaming our Judiciary.

To get the details of the case I wrote to the Ex Maharaja of Sandur and though he kept mum on the case advised me to write to Sri Sathya Sai Books & Publications, Prasanthinilayam.

From his silence on my questions, I knew that there was something interesting in the case and I started searching for the case in the Supreme Court Law Journals and I succeeded in my search in 1984. The said judgement was given on 6.5.1966 by Justices K.N.Wanchoo, J.C,Shah and S.M.Sikri in civil appeal Nos. 1l33 & 1134. Hon.J.C.Shah gave a dissenting judgment dismissing the petitions of Y.R. Ghorpade while other two Hon.Justices allowed the appeals with costs at Supreme Court and the High Court.

When I went through the magazines published by Satya Sai Baba, it was found that YR. Ghorpade and his wife did visit Puttaparthi in October 1965.

As a person interested in the welfare of the Judiciary,I wrote to the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India to give me the names of the Hon.Justices of the Supreme Court and the High Courts and the addresses of the High Courts in India, so that I could write to them to know their reactions in this matter individually and collectively. The Asst. Registrar of the Hon. Supreme Court rejected my request.

After collecting the names of the Hon’ble Justices from the Law Journals, a petition was sent to the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India and the Companion Justices of the Hon. Supreme Court on 2.2.1985 for answers to the following questions and the reply was that “no action can be taken on the papers sent by me as such the same have been lodged”!

Can a person like Satya Sai Baba who proclaims himself to be the reborn Shirdi Sai Baba and Sarva Daivatva Swaroopa -the god of all the gods by showing some tricks as miracles without ‘permitting investigations to the truthfulness of his miracles influence the Hon.Justices in Supreme Court to favour the persons whom they want?

2. what is the part played by Satya Sai Baba and through whom, in seeing that this case is decided in favour of YR. Ghorpade?

3. Have the Hon. Justices, gone against Law and Justice while the case was decided in favour of YR. Ghorpade?

4. If what is narrated in the article is false what action the Hon. Supreme Court would take against Y.R. Ghorpade and News Chronicle, Ludhiana for publishing this article?

It is now for the Lawyers, Jurists, Judiciary etc., to find if Sathya Sai Baba had influenced the Hon.Supreme Court to get the case decided in favour of Y.R.Ghorpade, and if not to take contempt of court action against YR.Ghorpade. Or if the Hon. Justices have been influenced then to pass necessary orders in this respect so that people of ‘India have confidence in the Judiciary.

It was surprising that one of the Hon.Justices met Sai Baba ‘when this case was pending and later Sikri &Co., appointed as Lawyers of Y.R. Ghorpade and his business empire. (p. 74-5)

Supreme Court of India cover-up: petition ad Sathya Sai Baba rejected

Posted by robertpriddy on August 13, 2010

Evidence and documentary proof of failed petition to the Supreme Court of India. The attempt to prosecute Sathya Sai Baba a decade ago was rejected in a most corrupt manner by a Sai Baba worshipping judiciary:-

From: “Hari Sampath”
Date: 8 May 2001 17:05:17 GMT+02:00
To:,,,,, (AND MANY MORE – addresses and names suppressed)
Subject: Supreme court refuses….
Dear All,

In what has been described by all observers as a “shocking” decision, the Supreme court refused to even hear the petition yesterday.
The Judge who heard it last week in the preliminary , Justice Agarwal (who said “these things have been going on for decades” ) was scheduled to be hearing the petition. In the last minute, he was suddenly transferred to another case by the Chief justice Anand, a Sai Baba folower, who appointed his right hand man, a corrupt judge called Lahoti to hear the case.

As soon as Kamini Jaiswal and Prashant Kumar started opening the case, this judge started posing all sorts of absolutely stupid questions, with NO LEGAL BASIS.

Here is what happened as recounted to me by Prashant Kumar.

Kamini Jaiswal : May I proceed with the case introduction ?

Judge Lahoti : Wait….there is a problem with the affidavit of the petitioner, I want it clarified.

Kamini : There is absolutely nothing wrong, the affidavit is perfectly fine.

Judge Lahoti : Why is the affidavit dated April 5th 2001 and you are coming up only now with the petition , in May ?

Kamini : The affidavit was signed by the petitioner and had to be mailed, along with his petition. The petition had to be mailed to him first so that he could sign it.

Judge Lahoti : How can that take more than a month ? This is an old affidavit , then.

Kamini : If you notice the address of the petitioner, he is in the United States, and mail takes a few days to reach there and then back here to India. We filed the petition more than 10 days back, citing reasons for urgent mention, and according to the court order, the case was posted for today. That is why we are here now.

Judge Lahoti : Well…it seems that the petitioner is in USA,it is my mistake. Anyway there are other reasons I want to clarify this petition. Why are you approaching the Supreme court ? We don’t want to hear this petition, please go to the High court in Andhra Pradesh.

Kamini : The reasons are clearly mentioned in the petition, and we are filing the petition under Article 32 of the constitution, which gives us the right to come to the Supreme court.

Judge Patnaik (second judge) : Why was the petition not filed in the Andhra High court under Article 226 ? Go to the High court.

Kamini : That is what I am coming to, Article 32 and Article 226, both grant the same rights in the Supreme court and High court respectively…..either option can be pursued. If I may proceed with my argument, I will explain why…

Judge Lahoti : No… go to the High court…

Kamini : Can I at least have a hearing ?

Judge Patnaik : ok.. go on…

(Kamini begins her arguments, and starts detailing all the media reports about Sai Baba, the statements of sexual molestation, etc….. when she reaches the point about UNESCO…. she is interrupted)

Judge Patnaik : This court doesn’t want to hear this petition, go to the Andhra High court.

Kamini : But I have not even come to the point explaining why we choose to file under Article 32 in Supreme court…

Judge Lahoti : You can do the same under Article 226 in Andhra Court…

Kamini : But that exactly is what I was going to say, about why I cannot do that there, can I please continue ?

Judge Patnaik : Why are you here, why don’t you go to Andhra ?

Kamini : It is clearly stated in the petition, and I am coming to that…

Judge Lahoti : what grounds ?

Kamini : The respondent Sai Baba has a 60,000 million rupee empire in Andhra Pradesh, with total control over the entire state government… how can we go there ? There are also lot of other political influences …

Judge Patnaik : No, we are not going to allow this petition here, go to the Andhra High court..

Kamini : But if this was the issue, we could have been informed 10 days back, we were asked to come today…

Judge Patnaik : We are going to dismiss the petition.

Kamini : On what grounds ?

Judge Lahoti : We do not have to cite any reason for dismissing it..

Kamini : Can you at least give a ruling “with liberty to go to Andhra High court” ?

Judge Patnaik : No I am not going to do that.

Kamini : But that is what you were saying all along , if you want us to go to the Andhra High court, and if that is the reason you are not hearing this petition, can you please put it in writing ? We can then take it to the Andhra High court .

Judge Patnaik : No , I just asked you why you are here, and said that you should be in the Andhra High court. I am not going to include that in the ruling.

Kamini : Can we at least withdraw the petition from this court, and approach the Andhra High court ?

Judge Lahoti : you could approach the Andhra High court if you want to, but we are going to call this petition “dismissed”, and not allow you to withdraw it.

Judge Patnaik : Petition dismissed, no reasons are given by this court. That is the ruling .

As we can clearly see, this “hearing” was rigged and blatantly violating all legal norms.

The whole proceeding took less than 10 min… with the judges constantly interrupting Kamini Jaiswal…. and repeatedly raising irrelevant questions, without giving her a chance to explain the legal reasons why she was representing in the supreme court.

That judge Lahoti is notorious as a “Chief justice Anand’s hit man”, who had been cleverly appointed at the last minute, replacing Justice Barucha and Justice Agarwal, who heard it last week.

It is very very obvious why they were so eager to “dismiss” the petition, without a complete hearing, and also not give a ruling that we could approach Andhra High court, although they stated it orally.

They want us to go to Andhra High court, and everybody knows what will happen there. There will not even be a formality of a hearing in Andhra.

Scan proving the Supreme Court's rejection of a petition against Sathya Sai Baba

The scan that proves definitively that Sathya Sai Baba was protected by the Supreme Court of India and could not be tried, let alone convicted.

Worse yet, shortly after their rejection of the Petition lodged by Hari Sampath, the Supreme Court of India deleted all public documentation of it having been made. The British Ambassador to India attempted to get confirmation of the rejection by the Supreme Court but there was no record of it! Nonetheless, a copy of the formal rejection paper was preserved and a scan of that attested document is here:-

At that time, the Governor of Andhra Pradesh had once been none less than the private driver for Sathya Sai Baba ! One can imagine the chances of a petition to the AP High Court. In a mail from Basava Premanand to the Danish film director Øjvind Kyrø, who produced the Danish National TV Documentary ‘Seduced’ (by Sai Baba), he stated:

Subject: re
“Regarding murders in 6.6.1993 I went up to the Supreme Court and though the apex court ordered the police to take action against the accused as per the investigation by CB-CID the case was closed by the Andhra Government. Now that the government is changed and the present Chief Minister and Governor of Andhra Pradesh are fans of mine. We have put in a petition to get it opened and the Governor has agreed to meet me.”

However, despite sustained efforts to re-open the case, Premanand’s petition was totally disregarded right up until his death last year. This shows the pull that Sathya Sai Baba and his minions had in the corridors of power in India, especially the top of the Indian Government (which they still have).

Guru-buster Premanand exposed Gerald Moreno

Posted by robertpriddy on July 14, 2010

Basava Premanand, known world-wide as India’s top “guru buster, was smeared massively by Gerald Moreno. Eventually Premanand responded in published books and numerous web pages (see some here). One can safely say he ‘bust’ Moreno too… answering his long diatribes point for point in the most balanced and sound manner… winning every such contest with him (see list here under Premanand). Here is one brief excerpt:-

Now Moreno I shall prove why the oilings below the navel are most likely to have a sexual significance.
1. The navel and the part below the navel up to the pubic area is the most erotogenic part of the human body arousing sexual desire.

This is what you state what happened to you and others mentioned by you in this article about oilings.
1. GM. The majority of people who have oilings say SSB applies the oil to their lower abdomen area between their pubic area and their navel.
2. GM : SSB applied the oil just beneath my navel
3. Marc-Andre: He applied it on my scrotum
4. David Paul : the oiling took place just above the pubic region and on the lower stomach
5. Greg Gerson : Applied the oil on my lower abdomen, below my navel and above my penis.
6. Alaya Rahm : Rubbed his genitals
This would make an overwhelmingly likely case that all the oilings mentioned by you and your experience are sexually oriented, not least as an introductory ‘grooming’.
Moreover this is not like the way to raise the Kundalini Shakti (sexual power) as described in scripture.

Gerald Moreno admitted to being ‘oiled’ on his account of his first visit to Sai Baba (see scan of the oiling account here)

Basava Premanand died last year, leaving behind him a massive legacy to society – not only to India but also to the world via international media, including Discovery Channel programmes and BBC documentary and radio interviews. His aim was to help the Indian masses free themselves from gross superstition by a tremendous and courageous front-line campaign involving thousands of demonstrations of the magic tricks used by gurus, swamis and other charlatans

This relative nobody Moreno from Las Cruces has the misguided audacity to attack a lifelong selfless worker for truth, the scientific spirit and morality as Basava Premanand, whose contributions are hailed by the genuine secular intelligentsia of India and elsewhere. He even makes a disreputable attack on Premanand’s last statement , made to witnesses and signed on his deathbed…  as if he really knew the circumstances. And thus Moreno’s own self-importance shows him up and defeats him in the eyes of decent people by making himself look insignificant and jealously petty beside a true Indian gentleman.  Compared to the respected figure of Premanand, Moreno lacks all known qualifications or genuine employment, yet he set himself up all across the ether as a “neutral” researcher and pretends to some kind of spirituality (despite his decidedly non-spiritual attacks on all and sundry).

Later on in desperation no doubt to find some ‘qualification’, Moreno has described himself as a “professional artist” and “world traveler”. To that one must say there are millions of world travelers today, they are usually known as ‘tourists’  – and Moreno has been to India a number of times, but is otherwise not known for explaining anything whatever about any other culture. As to being  a” professional artist”, no exhibitions of Moreno’s supposed works of art have been registered anywhere – unless he believes his computer-generated pseudo-holy mandalas qualify as ‘professional art (often the sign of New Age fantasizers)? Indeed these show – no talent for originality or detail (they were originally available via his site at If so, he can show no professional art critic who considers them to be so. The term “professional artist” usually refers to someone who has completed higher studies at some Acadamy of Art – or else to a commercial artist – someone who earns a living by producing artwork for the media including magazines, films… but Moreno is neither of these, unless I am very much mistaken? Nor is he known to be an artist who exhibits and lives by the sale of paintings, aquarelles, gouaches and similar difficult media. Let him explain how his claim is not just bogus posturing. Perhaps his best work is to be seen below here.

The lone wolf howls? Latest example of Moreno’s overblown nit-picking mentality and lack of anything of the slightest importance to criticise is how he calls my mistaking the date of a Sai interview full of genuine howlers to be a howler on my behalf! It doubtless made petty Moreno howl, but no one else, I’d say. Moreover he is an ageist, calling my misreading of a date senility (his having already claimed I suffer from senile dementia – a lie concocted by him without any possible evidence as he has no access to my health records and my mind is as fit as a fiddle. Besides he knows that the volume of material I put out daily would be beyond most people with any sign whatever of senility. His baseless slur is just another of his typical schoolyard tit-for-tat reactions, this time because I have forwarded reports from the ashram that Sai Baba shows continual signs of senility. Most of Moreno’s writings against me are essentially like this, which just his vindictive agenda and lack of mature judgement. I corrected this dating error as I always correct anything shown to be wrong, unlike Moreno who almost never does that.

The academic and author Brian Steel has written a number of articles about the attempts of Sai baba followers and defenders to slander, discredit and generally destroy the reputations of all critics of Sathya Sai Baba. He provides many references to other writers who expose the most primitive and massive attack campaign by a person of no known occupation or qualifications of any kind, Gerald Joe Moreno.

Yaani Drucker’s hypocrisy about academic qualifications & enlightenment

Posted by robertpriddy on May 27, 2010

Yaani Drucker made some comments on my blogs. Most of them are so deluded that I can’t be bothered to reply. But two of them required a reply, I though, because of her false and unchecked assumptions about me and the hypocrisy that drips from her… a suppose ‘enlightened soul’! She has taken up with another person who is not only deluded but very nasty and will stop at nothing to try to destroy the character of others… Gerald Moreno.
Here are her

Dear Dr. Priddy,

I find it interesting that you stake so much value in the fact that you have earned a PhD.

Sometimes too much information can get in the way of enlightenment. I do not know any PhD’s who have attained, do you? I do know that Ramakrishna, illiterate, Ramana Maharshi, barely literate, and Nisargadatta, also barely literate, all attained. The obvious conclusion is that scholarly learning more probably leads to arrogance, which gets in the way of enlightenment.

I would suggest to stop idenitifying with yourself as any label and come with wholly empty hands unto your chosen form of deity, or formless… this will bring you quickly to your enlightenment.

The greatest service we can render to the planet is to wake up to the truth of who we are, for in that we expose ego as an impostor for all mankind.

That is why at the moment of my enlightenment I was told, Your aura has just exploded to infinity and you are shooting off sparks of love and joy to all humanity. It is a gift to all humanity to wake up, for we are all one.

Enlightenment is the greatest expression of selfless love. And everyone qualifies – you don’t have to have a PhD, to go for your enlightenment. You just have to be willing to be wrong about everything you taught yourself thus far, probably a tall order for a PhD, thus we don’t see any enlightened Drs.

Have a sweet day.

Yaani failed to recall that her husband, who is a Ph.D. has claimed to be self-realised, like herself. My reply to her was uncompromising, as follows (some typos corrected here):-

Yaani, Enlightenment is not just a sudden personal version of sat-chit-ananda. Your pretentious preaching at me I find laughable and also repulsive. I experienced infinity, intense sweet bliss and paranormal intuition of minds and much more when I was 26. Doctorates meant nothing to me – and never have, not have professorates (Note: Norwegian version of ‘professorships’). I never used any academic title in any of my many articles in Sanathana Sarathi, published books and articles – nor in India where Sai followers have to have letters after their names (Narasimhan once inserted tiles ‘Doctor’ and ‘Professor’ on his own guesswork – neither of which titles I have ever myself used – and so I had him cease to do!). I virtually only took my degrees with a family to support (Continental Magister degree), despite great scepticism about philosophy, psychology and science. (I wrote widely, deeply critically on these subjects in that vein too. From all you write it is perfectly evident to me that you are ensconced in a strong ego, and that you have most certainly not got anywhere near the maximum enlightenment possible. I note you also inform about having taken a BA in psychology… why so? And your husband promoted himself vastly as a Professor and scientist – but he has no academic record that can be found. I only set my record straight once because of attacks by Moreno and de Witt!! You should be deeply ashamed of your support to him (dogs barking, indeed. How unoriginal). You were caught far more deeply in the Sai cult than I, and you cannot liberate yourself or face up to reality (which is patently not in your solipsistic cloud-cuckoo land of bogus ‘oneness’).

I took my university education having a family to support (Continental-style – Norwegian Magistergrad degree), despite my great scepticism about philosophy, psychology and science at that time due to personal experiences of many kinds – and in half a dozen previous kinds of employment world-wide. (I wrote widely, deeply critically on these subjects in that vein too. Do a little research. From all you write it is perfectly evident to me that you are ensconced in a strong ego, and that you have most certainly not got anywhere near the maximum enlightenment possible. In fact your ideas about it are largely deluded and immature. It requires a thorough knowledge of many things concerning humanity, the origins of religion, deep psychology (in practice), and not just some subjective experience which once blew your mind.

I do not intend to continue any correspondence with you because I have seen how hypocritically you treated Barry Pittard. I have no help to offer you either, but you sorely need it. I am not moved by mere sweet words, as I recognise they conflict with the main body of how you react to others. I am not dear to you, you do not know me – I am a real person, not some abstraction of the kind you deal in. I do have very sweet days with my family, friends and existence, without your wishes or help. One often reaps what one has sown (not always though!)

Yaanidrucker also commented:- 2010/05/23 at 6:02 pm

Dear Dr. Priddy,

You are a PhD, correct? And by your definition of a cult, you got caught in one. Now your definition and mine differ, therefore I do not think you were so stupid as to get stuck in a cult, however you do. I find that very interesting, despite your complete faith in those PhD who lead the world, who breath that rarified air of enlightened knowledge, that is so superior to the rest of us peons.

I am neither a Ph.D nor a Professor, though I was a professor in the wider general sense, a university lecturer. I have a Ph.D. equivalent – 7 years university studies and thesis, dissertation etc.). Many people have given me these titles, and I have always responded asking them not to do so, I prefer to rely on what I actually write and stand for, not on titles. So Yaani is completely mistaken about my self-evaluations, and she never even met me. She seems to have a problem about knowledge and learning… even though she has announced that she took a BA in psychology herself. As to peons… well, she regards humanity in its virtual entirety as trapped with their egos… while she thinks she is enlightened beyond all measure? What an egocentric self-appraisal!

Yaani evidently has no idea of how I view and define cults in accordance with world experts on this subject. She could benefit from reading about them! Her view is that only a group one cannot leave is a cult. That is very simplistic. One can even leave the most oppressive cults, but it is the harassment afterwards that is the defining quality. Such as her confidante Moreno’s constant harassment of all Sathya Sai Baba ex-cult members. The Sathya Sai cult is not as extreme in the sense that some are, not unless you are in India and confront them (Basava Premanand was burgled three times (see BBC report) and suffered attempts on his life from Sai Baba goondas (i.e. killer thugs). He was convinced from his evidence that his son and helper was murdered in a Bangalore hospital too! Numerous Indian students have been murdered at the ashrams, and also a considerable number of Westerners, while other Western visitors have ‘disappeared’ from the ashram and have never been traced. Indian ex-students in fear of their livelihoods and even their lives still write to me (for they know I can be trusted, unlike continuing devotees). But for the majority it is admittedly a very subtle kind of cult, relying on voluntary donations (after deep indoctrination). Sai Baba gives people almost worthless rings (claiming they are diamond rings), fake watches, all manner of trinkets – and he gets huger donations in return out of thankfulness – but the donors were thoroughly deceived!

End of the Sathya Sai Baba Dream

Posted by robertpriddy on September 24, 2009

In 2000 I resigned as National Contact person of the Sathya Sai Organization in Norway after 18 years fulfilling that role. This was no easy decision, since I did not believe that the allegations of sexual abuse could be true, even though I knew that Sathya Sai Baba was deeply involved in the massive cover-up of murders in his own bedroom, and hence an accomplice to the fact.

Having refused to read David Bailey’s account or any of the flood of allegations thereafter for months, I finally felt I must read the sexual allegation testimony.  It took me about another six months of intensive investigation – contacting all the sources I could – before I was forced to arrive at a complete conviction that most of the allegations were both true and accurate. Subsequently I began to look carefully into all aspects of Sathya Sai Baba from the viewpoint of critical questioning and found, to my dismay, deceit after deceit and evidence of a major campaign of deception by him and all those close around him. This resulted in many web pages, which the award-winning rationalist, Basava Premanand, asked permission to publish. The end result was:-

Front and rear covers of the book, which corrected the over-zealous interpretations and shortcomings of my popular pro-Sai book as blessed by him, 'Source of the Drea,m

Front and rear covers of the book, which corrected the over-zealous interpretations and shortcomings of my popular pro-Sai book as blessed by him, 'Source of the Dream

My book ‘The End of the Dream’ is the sequel to my book ‘Source of the Dream’. Sathya Sai Baba said in my last private interview with him (in 1994 at Trayee Brindavan), “Write, write!” and “What you are doing is right!”. Ironically enough, he did not specify what to write!. I am willing to take an oath that all I state in ‘The End of the Dream’ and have written thereafter is as accurate and true as I can express it clearly. I carefully recorded daily events, discussions and lectures while I was at the ashrams (altogether about 13 full months of diary entries). Editor V.K. Narasimhan’s revelations about Sathya Sai Baba (VKN from Robert Priddy notebooks covering all visits from 1984 to 1998)
Numerous scans of these are available here, as well as contents of some of the numerous letters I received from V.K. Narasimhan between my visits Not least due to my own many written contributions praising Sai Baba, my conscience insisted that I must perform the heavy but important public duty of correcting the overblown, propagandistic image of Sai Baba that had taken me in and which is still sustained by his many followers. These are invariably based on his own exaggerations and untruthful claims. Many devotees actually regard everything that happens as being ‘all a part of the avatar’s plan’, and some claim that his critics are ‘his instruments’ for weeding out the unworthy who do not have enough faith! That is how far faith can create self-deception and distort all sense and reason and underpins monolithic churches, guru cults and other authoritarian or totalitarian institutions. Sai Baba says everything that happens is a gift from God, so followers will make any kind of distorted sense of that! This means that any such god must all too often be totally merciless, for a start.

Gerald Moreno and “oiling between the pubic area and the navel”

Posted by robertpriddy on April 24, 2009

Moreno’s claims about others who have shared their experiences with him about oiling by Sathya Sai Baba “between their pubic area and their navels” as non-sexual are vague and very doubtfully semi-substantiated, to say the least – no names, no details about these persons. A well-known British author living in Canada has informed several of us that he was oiled on the perineum – between the anus and the gonads (I have full proof)! Moreno’s claims conflict with many testimonies to the contrary (See referenced here), including the follow-up of masturbation, oral and anal sex. I have become entirely convinced not least since I have been in touch with other young men who were subjected to this and informed me that this “oiling” has a sexual aim [in confidence and therefore I cannot publish names]. I am willing to provide my evidence in court.

The following shows how the anointing with oil is done and shows clearly that it is often sexual in nature. It is by Basava Premanand, replying to Gerald Moreno’s statements on his web site.

Sai Baba early history with video

Posted by robertpriddy on February 11, 2009

Short VIDEO CLIP (only 420Kb) Basava Premanand tells of Sathya Sai Baba and his family in his early years

The elderly grandfather of Sathya Narayana Raju (who took over the name Sai Baba) was a performer, as Prof. Kasturi stated in his official biography (Volume 1 (Satyam,Sivam, Sundaram). Under his guidance, the family troupe performed in villages around Puttaparthi. Prof. N. Kasturi refers to their activities in village dramas and musical groups, which appears to have been their main employment, since no other employment is ever mentioned. We read-
Because the brothers and the father were all extremely interested in the village operas on the legendary histories of India, and since plays were very often rehearsed at home…” also “He could sing all the songs rehearsed at home for the village operas and mystery plays.”

In his religious and devoted fervour, Prof. N. Kasturi always embellished every fact about Sathya Sai Baba almost beyond recognition. “Village operas” sound nobler than “street performances” while “mystery plays” suggests what is now called ‘stage magic’. They were “open air” performances, as Kasturi also makes clear. Though his emphasis is heavily on the religious nature of all this , mentioning that proceeds were distributed to the poor – no secret is made of money being collected. Further, one notable incident Kasturi records proves that not all Sathya’s performances had any religious content. Kasturi report that Sathya imitated and reportedly improved on the gymnastic feat of…
…a girl dancer whose stage name was Rishyendramani, who performed a series of gymnastic dances with music. Her highlight was a dance in which she kept time to the music while balancing a bottle on her head” “Sathya’s sisters dressed him as Rishyendraman, complete with hair-do and personal decoration…” and so on.

Kasturi began to investigate Sathya’s childhood and youth only some years after he first met him in 1948. By then, Sathya was 22 years old (though the official school records indicate he was 3 years older) Kasturi gathered stories and based his ‘biography’ of those years almost entirely on hearsay. Those who know the extremely rumour-fulled atmosphere around Sathya Sai Baba, the strongly exaggerated talk and superstitious ideas held about him by uneducated villagers (that is, the great majority of Kasturi’s informants) are aware how blind devotion to Sathya Sai Baba causes suppression of all untoward and unsavoury facts about him. One partial exception to this rule is the book by Smt Vijayakumari (‘Vijayamma’) where she recounts her personal experiences of the young Sathya, herself a blind devotee from childhood.

Sathya Sai Baba worshipped by India’s P.M.s etc.

Posted by robertpriddy on November 18, 2008

Time for Indian Government leaders to take to their senses:

The Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and his Minister for Home Affairs (Shivraj Patil) are known devotees of Sathya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi, who they visit and show the utmost respect. A man who has for decades repeatedly claimed he is God Incarnate (which is illegal in India anyhow), Sathya Sai Baba clearly stated (or example) on the BBC film ‘The Secret Swami’ that he created 3-ton golden lingam (size and shape of an egg) within his stomach and regurgitated it (though it was clearly seen to be a faked show and the lingam was then placed on a flimsy table without it collapsing!). Is it not time for these supposedly educated people to begin to examine the many facts about the ignorance and deceptions of this imposter “Creator of the Universe”? While this preposterous unspoken embarrassment to intelligent Indians and visiting statesmen from non-Hindu countries persists, how can its leaders really be taken by the world to be seriously responsible people?

Nothing can absolve Sathya Sai Baba from having been involved in the gruesome murder incidents in his bedroom apartment in June 1993, where he fled his apartment and stood nearby and never intervened to save the four who were executed by the blackmailed police. None of the six murders were ever cleared up because his followers, then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao and Home Minister S.B. Chavan quashed the CBI investigation when it began to near a result (See here).

Neither this – nor many substantial sex allegations against Sathya Sai Baba – stopped the Indian Government under A.B. Vajpayee – a long-term devotee himself –  from proposing him for the Nobel Peace Prize! Such wishful ignorance of international standards of judgement is near incredible by a Prime Minister who defended Sai Baba without have made the slightest investigation of the massive evidence (as proven by B. Premanand’s tortuous correspondence with the dissembling authorities see Premanand challenges Vajpayee to come clean.

The practice of human values and the moral standing of anyone who is seriously considered for the Nobel peace Prize must be impeccable, and it is laughable that Sathya Sai Baba actually believed he would get it, as he made totally ill-informed claims that a certain Dr. Nobel was the many who gave it out was visiting him (he is the great grandson of Alfred Nobel and has no role in any Nobel Prizes whatever! See here)

Sathya Sai Baba (mostly passively) supports the vastly increasing militarism and nuclear arsenal of the Indian Government through patronising the designer of atomic weapons (Dr. Bhagavantam, deceased) and hobnobbing in most friendly fashion in public with the designer of the latest nuclear delivery missiles.

Shivraj Patil is a regular visitor to Sathya Sai Baba – see for example  here
