Conny Larsson and Sathya Sai Baba

Posted by robertpriddy on October 8, 2018

Conny Larsson
On a website, I reported an address given by ex-devotee Conny Larsson at a FECRIS conference in 2006. In this relevant talk, Larsson furnished information concerning sexual abuses achieved by his former guru Sathya Sai Baba (d. 2011). Equalizer (Gerald Joe Moreno) reacted to my report by accusing me of endorsing Larsson’s “new age” activities. I had not done anything of the sort.
There followed a tiresome spate of Moreno web accusations about my supposed support for Larsson’s fashionable and exotic “workshop” roles. I was obliged to refute this apologist tactic in a new web article. That article described Moreno (Equalizer, SSS108) as an internet terrorist.
The idiosyncratic reasoning of Gerald Joe Moreno preferred to assume that anyone who mentioned what an ex-devotee said was necessarily in agreement with all the thinking and behaviour of the other party. This was a very illogical exercise in attempted stigma, and patently ridiculous. Strongly visible on Google were blog idioms of Equalizer such as “Shepherd’s desperate and shameless justifications and cover-ups for psychic medium Conny Larsson.” All this amounted to an apologist recourse of superficial rhetoric.

I have never been in contact with Larsson, and merely reported relevant details about which he knew at firsthand. Those details can be encapsulated here by his well known observation that the Puttaparthi ashram of Sathya Sai was the scene of “a paedophile ring.” Larsson himself was encouraged by the guru into a homosexual relationship (with Sathya Sai) for four years.

Larsson’s book Behind the Mask of the Clown is very revealing. He relates how Sathya Sai sexually molested him in a private interview, but wished him to keep quiet about the new relationship. Larsson eventually discovered that he was not the only one in this predicament; there were many others. The guru even paid sexually exploited students and devotees, evidently desiring their attention at this intimate and secretive level. Larsson even says that the four men who died in the notorious bedroom murders at the Puttaparthi ashram were victims of sexual abuse whom he had known personally (see excerpts).
Close analysts remarked that the “Larsson complex” of Moreno served as a distraction from the strong allegations of sexual abuse lodged against Sathya Sai Baba. In trying to divert attention from the numerous allegations of abuse, Moreno invented fantastic scenarios for critics. He described this ruse in terms of “exposing” the critics.

The Sathya Sai Baba exposé’s history in brief

Posted by robertpriddy on January 15, 2017

At the beginning of the exposé in 1999 I was still in doubt about much of the material that had come forth about Sathya Sai Baba’s sexual abuses and worse. While getting involved in investigating the facts, I came into contact with defecting members (eventually over 100 at least). Not unexpectedly, though all found the sexual abuses abhorrent, most were of different opinions on many other aspects of the exposé. I was eventually urged by the most articulate group of activists (later composing the core of the 32-member JuST group) to coordinate the development of the Sai petition (and hence the core policy of the exposé). This involved up to 1000 e-mails in trying to get solidarity around its key aims, during which time those with cantankerous views, extreme agendas, and evidently unstable minds (of which the Sai movement had a high percentage) either left the process or were ignored. Meanwhile, the remaining core eventually hammered out a common overall policy.

The main targets for our information and agitation persons in public office, especially institutions like Governmental departments, United Nations’ branches, the UK Foreign Office and secret services, the US State Department, India’s CBI, law enforcement agencies, top human rights organisations and their key persons, other cult exposers, serous journalists and media, plus present and future researchers into religion, sects and cults. This has remained our focus, in accordance with our mutual agreements and trust. We aimed to try to protect and advise vulnerable persons seeking meaning who otherwise could only read the massive and unopposed propaganda praising Sai Baba uncritically exaggerating his own massive claims of his world-wide importance as a pure and divine saviour of humanity. Reducing the influence of the Sathya Sai Organisation and serving notice on devotees’ self-serving praise etc. on their deeply indoctrinated minds was also of importance, but was supplementary to the main aims. Indian devotees were – and still are – so entrapped in denial and their particular environments that it virtually takes a personal disaster for them to change completely (such as by being sexually abused, or close to badly abused and not least murdered devotees). However, the tremendous demise of the Sathya Sai Organisation was largely due to the exposé and its interventions… capped off by the ignominious ‘premature’ death and all that came out then.

The main work rested on the shoulders, so to speak, of the brave young men and their families etc. who stood forth and told of their experiences of sex abuse, but also of those who worked hard in exposing the infamous 1993 murders in Sai Baba’s apartment.  Meanwhile several bold apostates (especially David BaileyGlen Meloy, Barry Pittard, Conny Larsson and other JuST members) were very active in campaigning to try to motivate officialdom: governments, UN bodies, human rights NGOs and embassies etc., for all of his various ‘victims’ their efforts being directed towards bringing SB and his cronies to justice, stopping sexual abuse, and organising various lines of inquiry and action. Of course, we eventually  learned that it was an impossibility to get him into court in India due to his control over much of the judiciary and government (a long line of Sai-devoted Indian Prime Ministers and Presidents too).

I had begun dealing with the revelations with the attitude that I would strike some balance between the good things about Sai Baba and the dark side. Only gradually did events – and a flood of information from intelligent, selfless and trustworthy former devotees who had found no forum for their discoveries while devotees, did I realise that – for all I had believed and given myself to promoting wholeheartedly – the dark side of him and his secretive conspiracy was far, far more extensive that I could have imagined. While still deceived by it all, I had written a book promoting him, so I had to make amends by presenting the other side of the coin fully in order to correct wrong impressions so as to protect the weak and vulnerable against him and the highly overrated and misunderstood motives behind his works.

On balance, the outcome of Sai Baba’s life was deception in the interests of self-glorification, financial, social and political power, sexual satisfaction and many deeply serious breaks of trust. Ultimately, through a long lifetime of experiences and disillusionments with many promising theories, movements and doctrines, I am convinced that all religious and most spiritual doctrines are largely unfounded and speculative, and can lead to very dangerous social conditions and only provide temporary comfort from the fears, problems and sufferings of mankind. No ‘balanced’ approach to religion or organised faiths can do other than help sustain their basic self-deceptive hopes and longings.

It is informative to see that the power and money-grabbers who control Prashanthi Nilayam today present the Sai Organisation on their website as being just as it was at the height of its membership… now a complete and total untruth as it has lost the vast majority of it’s former supporters world-wide.

On the 1993 murders – Conny Larsson’s experience

Posted by robertpriddy on March 26, 2015

The former long-term close devotee of Sathya Sai Baba (over 50 interviews) and active leader of his Organization in Sweden became one of his most active critics after 2000. Among many other revealing facts, he wrote about the 1993 executions in Sai Baba’s quarters:-

When I was in Puttaparthi in 1998, before I left Sai Baba, I happened to speak to a previous student of Sathya Sai Baba whose mother had a Sai-paraphernalia shop with rings and photos and all that stuff. Since I had always shopped there, I was invited to an evening of conversation with the family. The family then told me everything about the public version of the supposed assassination conspiracy against Sai Baba not being true at all.

They told that the former students who had intruded on Sai Baba had done it for two reasons. There was disagreement between the various families in Puttaparthi about the finances and the Sai Trust. The trust had given assurances and some had received advantages, others not. All had wanted to enrich themselves from the fund or the ashram monies that they could embezzle. That was the first reason they intruded on Sai Baba. There was never a question of an assault or the like because they had thought that they had so much on their side that they could pressure Sai Baba, this being the second reason. This was that all the older students were aware about what went on with Sai Baba and boys.

The older boys had long observed this but had not done anything about it, but they now thought that they could use this as blackmail to provide their families with more prominent positions. The family (i.e. Puttaparthi shop owners) had previously been deeply devoted but now remained there only purely on financial grounds. That they dared to talk to me in particular was because I had – earlier in 1996 – expressed strong dissatisfaction to them with the whole way the ashram was going, and especially also in the Swedish movement.

They did not know what happened later in the room with the police other than what was rumoured but they did not themselves believe a word of the ashram’s official version and even less so the police version, because all the Puttaparthi police were, as they put it, ‘bound hand and foot’.
Their version concerning the boys on the veranda was from press reports in India. Which papers I no longer recall. A policeman from the Puttaparthi police station I had met earlier had told me more or less what the family did. He said that the students were quite simply executed and that all the placement of knives and everything in the photographs were set out to fit the case and make it look like an attack. He also said that he did not at all believe that the knives belonged to the students. When I visited to meet him later he was no longer there, they had transferred all who had been there during that period, saying “they have all been assigned other duties in new districts”. Naturally, I never saw that policeman again.

Why I didn’t write it in the first place? Due to my editor having weeded out almost all of it saying ” you have to kill your darlings”, and I had to comply with to get the book published. Also that is the reason why I had to write my new book on Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, since the editor deleted almost all except for one account. Also my memory has recovered more or less now since my healing from the trauma has been going on all the time since I published the book Behind the Mask of the Clown.

Everything has become much clearer to me now that I have got some distance from it all and so I once again put out what I remember on the web. However, I can’t remember the name of the family and I am actually very glad I can’t, since I know in what a threatening place they have to live. The boy was also very disappointed since Baba had promised him some photo job in the ashram but later assigned that to some other boy. He never admitted having himself being sexually abused but meant that many had that experience among his student friends. I found it too hard to believe at that time and in fact I didn’t want to. I went to him after my experience in 1999 to tell him about it, but the family seemed to be scared for some reason and so did other also some of the westerners in the ashram. Especially that millionaire lady that was the donor to the Swedish Sai school. I do not remember her name. Britt-Marie Andén, who was the director of the school, would know her name. That lady hardly dared to go out from her room any longer. Only when Baba had darshan did she dare to come out. When she saw me one day she screamed at me, ‘Don’t speak to me, don’t speak to me, they will see me and report to security.’ I was absolutely flabbergasted and couldn’t believe my ears since we had always been talking easily outside and within the ashram before. Something had really changed inside the ashram. I was more than happy to leave it for the last time.

Conny Larsson’s full Sai Baba web site see here

“I actually got my first taste of the extensive ashram spy network way back in the mid-1980s, when I had started to help an ill Indian lady with small errands. Within weeks, one of the top Seva Dal ladies who sat at the Darshan compound entrance called me over and started scolding me for associating with Indians, mentioned the exact days and times I went to her room to help! Us ‘permanents’ knew very well we were being watched at all times and our activities reported. Why did the ashram do it? Having a LOT to hide, of course! Maybe that is why they so drastically controlled the number of days devotees could stay in the ashram!”

Achter het Masker van de Clown van Conny Larsson in het Nederlands vertaald

Posted by robertpriddy on August 14, 2011

Conny Larsson’s  Swedish book ‘Bakom Clownens Mask’ has already been translated into English – as well as German and Estonian – and is now is also available in Dutch:

How difficult is it to live as a sensitive artist when in social environments that ultimately turn out to be one of cunning lies and deceit? Conny  Larsson is the author of this very personal and psychological drama with exotic overtones which gives us an excellent understanding this through the bogus spiritual Sai Baba cult he left. At the same time his story is relevant to those who need to learn self-help, find their true selves and not just accept the moral and ethical decline of truth, justice, nonviolence, peace and love.  Conny has dedicated this book as follows:-

To all of You who during the last five years have kept me going, when I have fallen into the deep valleys of memory, I wish to express my profound gratitude. To those of You who have tried to make me give up and keep silent, to those who are in denial, I direct my particular gratitude for, paradoxically, You roused my inner strength to fight against untruth and injustice. To the prisoners in Wiezhowo Prison I turn with even deeper gratitude, as they taught me to value the freedom of which they themselves were deprived. They finally enabled me to leave my self-imposed prison, my sect.

With a preface by Rigmor Robert – physician and psychotherapist – respected nationally in Sweden as prominent in exposing the Jehovas Witness Cult in Sweden and also the Swedish Pentecostial Church (Pingskyrkan org.) in Knutby, Sweden, 2004

Leader of International Sathya Sai Organization denied hard testimony

Posted by robertpriddy on March 24, 2011

The denials from Dr. Hislop: Open e-mail of Conny Larsson March 24, 2001:-

Since I have noticed that a letter about Dr. Hislop is moving around within and outside the Sai-organisation saying that he didn’t know what was going on with Sai Baba and the students regarding sexual molestations, I can only tell you my story in which Dr. Hislop was involved, so you can decide for yourself what is true or not true.

I was Maharishi’s secretary in the year 1973. I did not know about a certain Dr. Hislop at the time, but came to hear from him through a letter to Maharishi from this Dr. Hislop saying that he could not stay in the TM-movement because he now had met God in form of the Avatar of Sai. He thereby declared to leave the Maharishi and the TM-movement.

Maharishi who had invested much in Dr. Hislop, by letting him to be his first teacher in the western world and even by having him being secretary for a while, felt dropped out and asked me to write Dr. Hislop a letter telling him about the beautiful things that were going on within the TM-movement and that he, Dr. Hislop, had is natural place in this. He also asked him not to follow this new master of his because he was Not the avatar at all. Dr. Hislop was told he now was following a dark path.

I myself, who had to write the letter to Dr. Hislop, was very surprised by Maharishi’s prompt answer to Dr. Hislop, but couldn’t do anything else than write what I was told by my master Maharishi. I had never heard before anything about this Sai Baba so I thought he was never anything else than a common Indian Guru fooling his devotees and I forgot about everything after sending the letter. Dr. Hislop was never heard of anymore, and I forgot about him too.

Then, ten years later, after since long I had left Maharishi and found Sai Baba as my God and Avatar and was fully devoted to Sai Baba in all ways, I met Dr. Hislop as the leader of the Sai organisation in the USA when I was down in Puttaparthi. I think this was in 1983. I was invited to come and tell my life story, which had become popular among the Sai-devotees around the world, to his Sai-group that was visiting Puttaparthi also. He had noticed that I was having very many interviews with Sai Baba, both private and with the group. When I was called, I during this journey had already had about 5 interviews and more were to come.

Since he heard my story with Sai Baba he told me that he was that particular Dr.Hislop that Maharishi sent the letter to 10 years earlier and we fell in arms of each other praising the Lord Sai’s skill in planning his mission for us for so long. This was what we believed. After the sharing meeting for the devotees he asked me to stay with him and then he asked me why Sai Baba had so many interviews with me. And since I was thinking that everything Sai Baba was doing with me was divine, I told him the Whole story about the sex we had that was on his (Sai Baba’s) own wishes, not mine, both oiling, masturbation, and oral sex etc. I saw in his eyes he was shocked, and he also told me that this was something he had to talk to Sai Baba about. When we left each other, he was shocked and what had I unknowingly caused in him? Since I thought it to be divine and was thinking that I had done no wrong by telling him.

It took one day for Dr. Hislop to get himself invited for lunch together with Sai Baba. Out he came on his feet faster then ever since he had brought up this question with Sai Baba about his sexual interest in me. We all know Dr. Hislop as a sincere seeker who wasn’t going to stop his investigation. And he certainly didn’t. Once more he talked to me about it and then he told me, that when he brought up the question with Sai Baba, Baba had answered him “This is not for you, you don’t understand the divine”. When he asked Sai Baba further, he was thrown out from the room and asked to leave. Sai Baba had been very upset with him he told me.

Image from frontspiece of Conny Larsson's Sai Baba exposé book in German 'Hinter der Masks des Clowns' - Ein weiteres historisch-psychologisches Buch aus dem Verlag 20. Juli. ISBN 978-3-00-034348-3 Verkaufspreis: 15,95 EUR

Since I now had childlike shared all my experience with Dr. Hislop around Sai Baba’s sexual play with me, it was absolutely clear to him what was going on. He even asked me if I enjoyed it myself. I told him “NO this was Sai Baba’s acts not mine”. He asked me if I ever had felt any improvement in my life force or Kundalini and I told him “No”. Sai Baba wanted to do this with me and I let it happen because he was my God. At that moment I had never questioned this God.

We never came to talk about this anymore and we left Puttaparthi.

What he made out of this knowledge or was he denied about it is his matter? I told him about the sexual abuse as it was, and it could not have been understood in any other way, as just sexual abuse, and thereby his shocking reaction the first day I told him. If he later denied it, this is then the same as all the Sai-leaders and denying people within the Sai-organisation are doing.

It wouldn’t help if Sai Baba would be raping us in public. They would still believe it to be divine since they don’t want to loose their faith. We can’t win over stupidity, we have to leave it and go further on.

So to the question whether Dr. Hislop did know about the molestations of Sai Baba, the answer is very much YES-YES. Anyone saying anything else is a lier. But what can we expect from these people who chose to follow a teacher that has been lying for all his life about himself from day one up to this day?

Yours sincerely, Conny Larsson (Former devotee)

As is known to many, Dr. J. Hislop covered up many accusations of sexual abuse by Sathya Sai Baba. See:-

Student of Sai college spoke out – in confidence

I was a form boy of Sai Baba

Subject: hello

Hope you would have got my last mail.I thought i would add bit extra to that material. As per my observation the baba has nothing to do with his western devotees faith in them. What he wants is their money. I remember one or two words clearly spoken by him to his very close form boys. He told them”follow me and be with me . I will give you whatever you want. Why only indian women… I shall give you white women”These are the way westerners are addressed inside. He has no basic understanding of the western way of life and follows the very rugged thought process of seeing things viciously. He has no regards for individuals whatsoever. I also remember once during kodai visit we were taken to the bhajan hall side of the bunglow and suddenly called back. The issue was that a lady of european descent who wanted to see swami desperately had sneeked in to SB’s room. I didn’t understand few things. How could a lady get past the security which is posted so heavily over there. Moreover while going to kodai there was the famous sandalwood smuggler veerappan who had sent his men to seek SB’s blessings and even during the kodai visit there were rumours from very close sources that LTTEmen (trouble shooters in lanka) had come to visit SB for his blessings.

Sb was always furious inside and blaming Col Joga Rao for taking away money amounting to lakhs but on the other hand he was always friendly to joga rao and would tolerate even his non-veg jokes about women . This from a person who preaches total sexual celibacy?Of course he wants his close male lovers to be celebates and have sex only with him otherwise he gtes annoyed. But he doesn’t care if they have discreet relations with other boys in the hostel.

Hi friends,
I remember somethings more about baba. I remember clearly how when he once failed to notice any erection as he waived his hand around my area and all the while looking at it, baba scolded me saying i have weak will and no mental strength at all. I know he dislikes lady like hell and when his close devotee at kodai kanal got him sweets as a son was born, baba only commented that even dogs have puppies and  do they really celebrate etc. I only think he would be happy as he would be having one more boy in the future to fondle.
I also recollect as to how happy SB was when michael jackson had visited india somewhere in september and was trying all ways and means to contact him(- exactly i don’t know. Baba also eagerly was telling everyone that michael jackson is his devotee and wears a sai baba ring.I think he got frantic telephone calls made to MJ as he would tell us the inside form boys that MJ was regularly ringing him up so as to stage a concert at puttaparthi. Baba inside often compares himself to queen elizabeth and One thing is sure he never likes girls or ladies but thinks himself to be a lady. G.Venkatraman is a fool and a thorough crook and he knows of all the things . I don’t know why this idiot supports SB so vehemently. Bye for now.

Sathya Sai Baba exposed in Argentina

Posted by robertpriddy on November 14, 2008

>Sai Baba, the well known Hindu spiritual teacher, who has a following of millions around the world, is facing charges of sexual abuse. The accusers assert that Baba has made many of his male devotees engage in sexual practices with him. Journalist Alejandro Agostinelli investigated the certainty of these charges. by Alejandro Agnostelli

Under the title ‘Divine Sin’, Agnostelli relates the evidence which emerged in Argentina and was presented on two TV programmes by Azul TV. The Latin American Coordinator of the Sathya Sai Organization, plus the leaders Dr. Michael Goldstein and Dr. William M. Harvey were present as apologists for Sai Baba. They were confronted by Conny Larsson – an alleging victim of sexual abuses by Sai Baba – and others over the sexual abuse of boys young men.

Sathya Sai Baba critics and apologists

Sathya Sai Baba critics and apologists

The defenders of Sathya Sai Baba made some absurd claims which were never backed up by events – perhaps the chief one of which was that the then US Presidential Candidate, Al Gore, was about to declare his support for Sathya Sai Baba. This would have been MOST unfavourable for him… and he has still not made the slightest mention of Sathya Sai Baba. He must have realised how damaging association with Sai Baba will always be!

It was even claimed that Sathya Sai Baba has assured his devotees that he had protected them from being in the World Trade Centre when the terrorist attack took place! Following this unfounded belief, the US Sathya Sai Organization used all its muscle with prominent figures in St. Louis and Chicago to introduce a Sathya Sai Baba day on September 11. One might think this very significant – that a big city allows a day to be named, but the Mayor’s office told us that over 200 days inSt. Louis were official name days for one or another organization.  In any case, it was a most untactful, distasteful demonstration . How could these people not realise what an outright provocation this is to the families, friends and co-workers of those who died – who Sathya Sai Baba did not deem worthy to be saved – claiming, as he does, to be God Incarnate with complete omnipotence, ruling over life and death and the Universe he has insistently claimed he created!
