Reopen Ratnakar case: High court to police

The Hyderabad High Court has directed the additional director general of police, CID of AP, to re-investigate the case against Mr Ratnakar, trustee of Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, pending at the Puttaparthi police station.

Justice B. Siva Sankar Rao was allowing a petition by Mr M. Ganapathy Raju, nephew of the late Satya Sai Baba, challenging the inaction of the police in probing the case lodged against Mr Ratnakar in 2013. The court directed the CID chief to call for records from the local police, whether it was pending investigation or if any final report had been filed, and re-investigate the case including any part of investigation that might have been done.

Mr Ratnakar bore a grudge against him as he had exposed the alleged attempts of the trustee to hand over the airport at Puttaparthi, which belongs to the trust, to some private persons and lodging a case. He alleged that the local police had connived with Mr Ratnakar and not investigated the case. He claimed that the police had lodged a case against him under the SC, STs Prevention of Atrocities Act at the instance of Mr Ratnakar. He also alleged that Mr Ratnakar had created a fake mail ID in his name and sent mails to senior trustees claiming that he was demanding Rs 25 lakh.

Mr Raju moved another petition seeking to quash the case pending against him. The judge refused to quash the case and told the petitioner to raise all the grounds he agitated before this court during the trial before the lower court. Allowing Mr Raju’s petition for handing over the case against Mr Ratnakar to the CID, the judge noted that only a magistrate court or special judge concerned, where the investigation is pending, can ask for any further investigation but has no right to order re-investigation. Re-investigation can be ordered only by constitutional courts either by invoking Section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code or Article 226 of the Constitution.

Sai Baba’s death super scandal: his cousin’s campaign for justice!

Posted by robertpriddy on April 24, 2015

probeThe Times of India reports on the effort of Mr. Ganapathy Raju – cousin of Sathya Sai Baba – to get justice concerning the death, written 300 letters to the judiciary et. in vain. Now we see the MOST revealing background of the utter corruption regarding Sathya Sai Baba of the Indian police, legal and government hierarchy. In any law-abiding society such an effort would have paid off with a media and legal investigation at the very least. We now read:-

Cousin demands CID probe into Sai Baba’s death
TNN | Apr 24, 2015, 04.28 AM IST
HYDERABAD: A day before Satya Sai Baba’s death anniversary, a cousin of the departed godman demanded a CID probe into his death claiming that Sai Baba passed away on March 29 and not as officially declared on April 24, 2011.
Ganapathy Raju, Baba’s first cousin, alleged that the death was hushed up by a few trust members just to keep enough time to usurp as much wealth from the trust fund.
“When Baba started showing signs of being unwell, why did the trust members call for a coffin and order two truckloads of flowers as done for a funeral? The death was not reported because the trust members needed time to usurp the wealth,” he said.
An angry Raju asked why Sai Baba wasn’t taken abroad for his treatment. “Why isn’t the medical report being put out in public?” he questioned.
“Also the medicines that were administered to Baba were not available in many hospitals. I wonder what drugs were given to him,” he alleged.
He also said that the establishment of a private flying training school at the Satya Sai Airport was taken up in a coy manner only to fill a few pockets. When asked on why he chose to come forward with this information now, Raju said that he was hopeful that the formation of a new government at the state and Centre would call for immediate ‘justice’.
“I have written close to 300 letters to various senior law enforcement officers, bureaucrats and leaders for a CID investigation into the matter but in vain. Till date, there has been no concrete planning to take up this matter,” he added.

I wondered why news about similar very credible claims by a former minister, Nagi Reddy, had disappeared entirely after he first went public in 2011.
