DOCUMENTED INFORMATION ON ISSUES RELATING TO THE SAI ORGANISATION (SSO)

On the total Public Unaccountability of the Sathya Sai Organisation
The refusal of the Sathya Sai Organisation to answer the slightest criticism of any kind can be seen throughout its published websites and all documents released to the public on all its official and semi-official websites. The organisation does not practise duty of care, now does it conform with mandatory reporting of suspected  sexual crimes, and in this it exceeds even the Vatican in cover-up.  This question was raised by the BBC investigatory team, who approached the former world leader of the Sathya Sai Organisation, Dr. Michael Goldstein with questions about its accountability. Because they were never given any satisfactory answers to any of the issues they raised, they decided to film Dr. Goldstein with a hidden camera at their last questioning of him. The result was extremely revealing, both of the Sathya Sai Organisation’s policy, of the degree of deluded belief of Dr. Goldstein and not least as to his extremely unprofessional views on how to know whether sexual abuse has taken place (quite amazing from a qualified doctor supposedly conversant with this field). The Sathya Sai Cental Trust was and is the overall decision-making body over all money and projects.

Has the Sathya Sai movement ground to a halt?

Since Sathya Sai Baba’s death under most suspicious circumstances, the chief medical causes which never having been documented (AIDS?) by any death certificate or due process –  and not least since the dismal failure of one of Sai Baba’s most trumpeted prophesies, that he would live until he was in his 90s – the institutions he left behind  – and especially the  Sathya Sai Organization –  are evidently labouring under a huge publicity problem. Add to that the furore over the massive hoards of gold, currency and goods galore hidden everywhere in his rooms and inside his avatar-sized bed (5 by 5 metres!), and the rationalization problem faced by supporters is too much for most of them… which is surely why there is no news to be found any about the ashrams, colleges, organization and what have you. Not that there was ever really any much news due to the secrecy and censorship within which everything was cocooned, leaving his propagandists on official and unofficial websites and Radio Sai with little more to show than the thin fare of repeated repetitive discourses, repeats of unconfirmed miracle stories, photos from bygone years, outworn bhajans, bizarre wallpapers and other completely uninteresting kitch.

The unfortunates who find themselves in an organization which supported an unconvicted but widely accused sex abuser and criminal murder accomplice as well as a provenly bogus prophet – and many of them were good people with the best of intentions (including my wife and I before 2000) may still be continuing whatever service work they were engaged in, but my bet is that the majority of them who still hang onto a belief in Sai Baba because of his outward message of love and service will no longer kow-tow to the VIPs who ran the outfit like a pseudo-bureaucratic and top-down private and secret organization. Earlier, the stream of attacks and mostly anonymous (cowardly) invective directed against myself and other well-informed dissidents confirmed that our message was getting out and was a serious threat to the deniers and head-in-sand dependents of Sai Baba. These have now dwindled to a trickle, which again indicates that the fanatics are on the back foot and the enthusiasm has lost any real basis with the demise of their Great Pretender… pretender to the throne of the Universe, no less! Still, those who want to believe will continue to do so, with or without what passes as evidence for them. The rest of humanity will let any seeds of propaganda they came across fall by the wayside, we can be entirely certain of that!

Though we who wanted to learn the unsullied truth about all things connected to our former allegiance have been charged with wanting to become famous ourselves on the back of the World Avatar! It would have been far easier and less challenging for us to sit back and say nothing, as a majority of those former fanatics now with egg on their faces have chosen to do. We gave up the quiet life in the interests of defense of the vulnerable, the weak, the dispossessed and the deceived, the sexually and spiritually abused and the families of the murdered victims. The cure for the divine impostor syndrome is not to give up the work, but to focus on it.

The Sathya Sai Organization’s Damage-limitation efforts

One of the mostly unofficial policies of the Sathya Sai Organization – especially in Western countries where there are high standards of education – is to avoid alienating possible future converts to the movement by speaking or writing about the many miraculous claims of Sathya Sai Baba or by his devotees. The Scandinavian countries were instructed by Thorbjørn Meyer to play down all the kind of proclamations that “people would not easily understand”, including the miracles and Sathya Sai Baba’s many claims of being the Divine Avatar come to save humanity and his many other documented ‘fantastic’ statements (read a cross-section of these).

Despite all this, the Sathya Sai Organisation requires all its members to accept that Sathya Sai Baba is God, this being stated clearly in the paper which, in many countries, new members must sign according to the Charter of the Sathya Sai Organization (which is not a published document, but is kept with the circle of the faithful!). Those who will not accept this condition are either not allowed to become members or – if already so – are excluded from the Organisation. Though the Official Sathya Sai Baba website (), however, does promote four Sai Baba discourses as important ones, in which he makes claims of divinity and miracles, it has in its printed propaganda materials in Western countries increasingly edited this material in such a way as to reduce the claims For documentation and a more thorough examination of this deceit by the Sathya Sai Organisation, see Downgrading Divinity’ by Brian Steel

Of course, the official Sathya Sai Organization is unable to control the many websites of zealous true believer devotees of Sathya Sai Baba – or unwilling to try to do so – for, after all, most of Sathya Sai Baba’s attraction to the curious is the many fantastic claims about him. It is a kind of balancing act – a Janus-faced operation designed to attract more serious people by emphasising the social service projects in the name of Sai Baba and the values he promotes (in word if not in deed) yet not to alienate those who consider Sathya Sai Baba’s miracles to be the be-all-and-end-all of his supposed ‘mission to save humanity’.

After the BBC’s documentary on Sathya Sai Baba – The Secret Swami – was aired (despite legal efforts by Dr. Michael Goldstein and other Sai Organization leaders to stop it being aired), he wrote a circular in an attempt to rein in all devotees from anything but officially condoned or vetted contact with the media!

Procedure to handle requests for filming interviews with devotees or officers at Sai centers or regional events by Media Companies Please carefully review the following letter from Dr. Goldstein on this subject:
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Sai Ram!
Recently there have been several media companies who have expressed an interest in making a program or documentary on Swami, His Works, the Sai Organization. We have advised these parties that we do not wish to participate in their documentaries or take part in personal or group interviews. Specifically, the BBC is contemplating production of a video which would be controversial in nature. We have informed them that the Sri Sathya Sai Organizations do not wish to participate in their project.
Therefore, should you be approached by any of these companies, or should they appear at any Sai Centers or Events with cameras, recorders, reporters, etc, please advise them respectfully that we do not wish to participate and politely ask them to leave the premises. If they do not comply with your polite request, then the appropriate authorities should be invoked, such as the person(s) responsible for the premises and/or the appropriate authorities.
