Sathya Sai Baba gibberish

A few snippits from the bottomless well of Sathya Sai Baba faux pas, foibles, fads and falsities:
Sai Baba claimed that the original language of the Vedas was Sanskrit, saying:-
“In the Sanskrit language, the first letter of the alphabet is ‘A’ and the last one is ‘Ha.’ When you combine A and Ha, it becomes Aha.” [10 July 1986]
Comment:  Interesting indeed.. a fair example of the simplistic quality of the “wisdom” he dispensed. It virtually guaranteed that no serious educated person who is not deeply indoctrinated, would not consider his massive claims to have any weight whatever.

Countless contradictions arise when he made claims about the ancient Vedas. For example, he stated that the Vedas are limitless (Sutra Vahini , p. 30) and in the same sentence says they are “incommunicable” but “can be experienced”. He declared that the Vedas emanated from God Himself as inhalation/exhalation (Sathya Sai Vahini p. 176). This is in accordance with Hindu mythology, whereby Brahma let the Vedas slip from his mouth after he had created the universe, and the demonic (i.e. ‘asura‘) horse Hayagriva took hold of them and made them available to the world. This kind of nonsense is put forward even today and believed by millions.

He said in a discourse in November, 1999, “People from other countries understand the values of the Vedas better than the Indians. The Japanese and the Germans studied the Atharvana Veda deeply with the result that they could excel in the manufacture of arms and ammunition.”

Such a bizarre statement must have been ‘plucked out of thin air’ by Sai Baba. If the Vedas were so helpful to the Germans and the Japanese in developing weapons during World War II, THAT is surely a great advert for them? Both those nations were soundly defeated by superior weapons!  Neither the Allies nor Russian derived one fig of nuclear weapon  information from the Vedas! Today’s ruling Indians (“Bharatiyas” like Prime Minister Narasimha Rao, President Kalam and others) bought information to develop and test nuclear weapons as a challenge to Pakistan, but got no help from the ritual hymns and the like in the Vedas.  Neither the Allies nor Russian derived one fig of nuclear weapon information from the Vedas!

Sai Baba held a discourse (11/8/01, published in Sanathana Sarathi, September 2001) in which he said wholly unbelievable things, such as “Today is Krishna Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna. I am making a promise today that the people of all the countries, viz. Pakistan, China, Germany, Russia will be united. That should be our goal. The goodness of Bharat will lead to this unity.” (p. 267) This makes any well-informed person think both how vague and how extremely unlikely Baba’s ‘promises’ mostly were. Did he mean all countries of the world will join in one union, like a glorified USA or EU? Or would there just be an imaginative kind of feeling of unity? Some zealous devotees saw this as a prediction of the supposed ‘unity’ between countries that were then going to war against the terrorists. But Sai Baba specifically included ‘the people of all the countries”.
